Indeed, it would not do for Kaena to find trouble on this evening; she had enough of that stalking her through the remainder of her life. Haku was only the most recent in a long string of drama that reached back ten years to the silver-furred coyote's birth. She had been born in the previous millenium, and there were few creatures who could speak of the same longevity, fewer still to actually possess living memory of a time when Lupercism was not quite so prominent, a time when human implements and technologies were virtually unheard of in the canine world. The hybrid woman had been through hell and back several times over in her life, and as hard as Haku tried to ruin her, as close as he'd come, she knew in her heart that this would also pass her by, either through death or time. She would die and forget about it or time would heal her aching wounds, one of the two.

Although Kaena did live in the past, tending to dwell on her old wounds and old enemies, the hybrid woman was not consumed by it. She did not seek vengeance for ancient wrongs, and since burying Salvaged the tricolor wolf had hardly even crossed her mind except as a conquest. She thought of him as a trophy, and she wished she'd kept his teeth. It had been satisfying enough to tack his skull on the old Inferni border when the birds had picked it clean, but the silver-furred hybrid knew the once-Beta wolf's skull had long been burned to ash. The territories closest to the ocean had been burned the worst, the fire seeming to spread out from that central point on the coast, and it seemed impossible that anything survived the wrath of the flames.

The ghostly-pale wolf was slow to mirror Kaena's intention, and in the ticking moments the hybrid readied herself in case this wolf was not friendly. The hybrid was well-aware of the efforts Gabriel had put into envisioning an all-around nicer Inferni, unlikely to attack for no reason but damn sure to kick ass in the case of trespassers, and the silver-furred Centurion was not about to mess that up for him. Three years of work would not drain away because of Kaena's actions. So, the coyote waited, and after what might have been minutes, the ghostly canine reflected the Centurion's intent.

"Good," the hybrid said simply, though there was a definite overtone of relief to that simple word. That relaxed Kaena by a mere hair, for she retained her suspicions and wariness where this wolf was concerned, as she did all of them. The hybrid could recognize pack scent wavering from the she-wolf's coat, and she identified it as the very same that Anu had bore. While the silver-furred coyote sized up the other wolf, she continued speaking, her words catching the attention of the hybrid and forcing her suspicions down manually. If she had already encountered Inferni once and they were friendly toward her, the chances she would stir trouble here and now were greatly diminished.

The hybrid remained silent, an indication for the other canine to continue, the snowy-coated female inquiring as to Kaena's name, introducing herself immediately thereafter and dropping Gabriel's name into the conversation. That certainly caught Kaena's attention, and her single golden eye widened slightly, taking a better look at this Urma of Crimson Dreams. "You've met Gabriel, hm? He does indeed lead our clan," she said emphasizing the last word rather harshly, punctuating the statement with a somewhat haughty smile as she added, "he is also my son." The silver-furred coyote could not stand being compared to wolves; they were a coyote clan, they were different. Their hierarchy did not require to grovel at the feet of the Legatus-ranked coyotes, and indeed, such extremes of submission would have annoyed Kaena rather than placated her, depending on the situation.

"I am Kaena Lykoi," the coyote said, introducing herself. It was unnecessary to add her origin to her name; most were too quick to pick up on the fact that she hailed from Inferni. It was usually one of the first things they noticed about her, followed by the scars. Actually, that depended on whether one saw or smelled Kaena Lykoi first. Depending on which sense detected the Centurion first, either could be the foremost thing noticed about her. "I'm Gabriel's right hand," the coyote said, metaphorically implying that she was Gabriel's subleader. Most were perceptive enough to infer the meaning of such a statement, and Kaena particularly enjoyed vexing others with Inferni's peculiar rankings. Usually it was the mother leading the son, not vice versa.
