Perhaps her lack of sympathy was the fact no one shared it with her. No one cared about her enough to try and stop what she was forced to become. She never once was asked to be taken away from her mother, to be controlled and raped by her father for one purpose and one purpose only. And it was a purpose she could not fulfill that led him to be angry with her, to hurt her because she could not carry his children. She took it every time, every hit and every punishment and every touch anyone ever gave her and she could not say anything about it, she could not complain or express her troubles. Not even now when Kaena was opening up to her.

Kaena was her own woman. She was independent and something had been taken from her against her will. Her golden eyes focused on the others feet and she tried to find something to say while she spoke. "Yes, ma'am," she said quietly, long lived defeat in her voice. "I'm sorry," she added as an afterthought. Vieira was at the woman's disposal and perhaps that was another reason. She could make Kaena feel better in anyway asked to, perhaps in ways performed on her but it was not like her to suggest them. Sometimes they would hit her when they felt awful until the purpose was over, regardless of how obedient she was. Until they were happy, she was not.

Vieira found sadness in this moment and her eyes watered, finding it in herself to empathize. If she thought enough of her own history, comparing Kaena's story to her own and imagining what it was like, it was there. Kaena did not want it to happen to her ever again and that was something Vieira could relate to. She did not want to have to worry about someone over her shoulder, whether or not that would touch her but it was there. Even in the presence of Kaena, it loomed over her head. Physical pleasure had long since been ruined and now it was something she dreaded on a daily basis.
