Word Count: 570 Rushed, sorry. ;; -Trying to cram this in before class.- XD

The last time he'd been around children this young was when he'd met Cwmfen's litter. Her pups had been as silent and intense as their mother, and unsurprisingly these two had the bold, outgoing nature of their mother. Even their father seemed to be loosening up though he did not move an inch until Jazper gave his daughter the go ahead--presumably he was clear by extension. Even though he sat up, he kept his body in a comfortable slouch with his black-tipped ears fallen back to half-mast. Well met, then; 'n no harm no foul, don't exactly blame you for being cautious, he offered, supposing technically he'd have done well to call for either of the Marino women upon his arrival rather than putter around the border waiting to be found. Then again, if he'd done that he might not have met Colibri--ultimately the conversation he had with her would become very valuable. Come to think of it, this was the guy she'd confused him for and that was slightly outrageous. They literally looked nothing alike... but he didn't dwell on it any further.

The children were still hounding him with questions (in the most charming way possible) and his tail flopped to one side as he smiled lightly and shook his head. Naw; nobody's uncle here, he said. At least that I know of, he added with a contemplative frown. Guess it's possible my folks had another litter while I was away, supposin' they're even still around, he added while they were all on the subject of family. He more or less considered Halo his niece--he had no idea what their actual relationship was but the role of "uncle" seemed to fit the bill for their age gap. She was definitely family of some sort, even if it was so very distant. Most likely, it would have to be good enough. Anselm doubted he'd ever see any of his immediate family from his birth pack ever again. Life had carried him decidedly away from that place and it was down a one way street.

As for exactly where he lived he was more hesitant. Guess it's a good hike far from here, basically at the base of that big mountain, he said, referencing Halcyon with a subtle--yet deliberate--yawn. He offered a noncommital shrug and decided to veer away from the subject as much as possible. Almost anything else he said risked instilling a sense of curiosity in the children; what was he to say, that they had boogymen, that they had monsters? It really wasn't a good neck of the woods but Anselm worked off the assumption that promises of anything epic--be it paradise or hell--would entice the fancy of children. It was best to leave things neutral and uninteresting, he'd decided, especially after learning from Gabriel that a different CD youth (well, at the time) had ventured off in search of Inferni despite his explicit warnings to stay away. Perhaps kids didn't grasp the severity of the situation--Savina had never questioned him when he told her they ought to meet in Halifax exclusively.

So how 'bout you two, eh? he asked them. Keeping your parents busy? Yes--what was rearing children from this age like? All of his he hadn't met until they were adults. How is the new mother? he added, gaze flitting to the base of Jazper's chin.
