A lone figure crouched behind the decaying shelter of a fallen tree, pale eyes just visible over it's jagged bark. The small female's coat was a shaggy mix of grays and whites, with a dark "mask" on her face, ears and tail, as well as dark speckles splashed along her coat. Several long, fresh scars ran along the back of her hips and legs, a shocking pink against the dark gray of her fur.

Her ears twitched to and fro as she stood abruptly, following the sounds of prey and predator alike. Unable to stop herself, she shivered, desperately wishing that her coat wasn't so unnatural in it's thinness. The wind's icy fingers crept through her poor excuse for a coat and she bit back a sneeze. She would have to move on, if only to keep herself warm.

With one last glance behind her, she took a small step forward, visibly cringing as it landed on a dead leaf. The crunch was as loud as a gunshot in the quiet, or at least she felt that it was.

After a moment of scolding herself, she moved onwards, head low to ground and nose working desperately to catch the scent she'd been trailing for days. She wasn't sure how long ago the she-wolf had passed through, as the scent was nearly indistinguishable from the others... but she would have to try. The only way now was forward, as she certainly couldn't go back-- the ache from freshly healed wounds on her rump told her that.

She continued this way for a few minutes, picking her way through the snow covered ground as quietly as she could. She stopped abruptly as she came to the border, fighting the urge to pace nervously, as she shook herself instead. Her muzzle tipped upwards after a moment's hesitation and she howled, long and loud. The surprisingly haunting sound echoed loudly, sounding more confident than she could ever actually hope to be.

The sound faded off as she ran out of breath, and she sat down to wait, ears pinned against her skull in uncertainty.
