A familiar voice rose from the forest, one that drew his attention to it like a fly to honey. Coward. It was something that even though he should have expected, he did not. Everything he had known about the demon wolf had told him Haku Soul would come to greet them without fear of death. This peculiar choice was one that told Gabriel more then anything else. Their enemy had been waiting for them to come, and perhaps known that one day they would—at least, that Gabriel would. And that time had come, in a blaze of black-gold fire; one holy, and one wicked and unclean.

The demon wolf appeared before them, a beast of muscle and terrible darkness, fangs bared and eyes gleaming with a blind hunger. As his name was called, taunted, the Aquila’s own face twisted into a terrible snarl. Instinctively, the wolf inside recognized the challenge and rose to it. To have another male, to have his most vile and terrible enemy no less, call for him in such a childish way, it was infuriating. In that moment, Gabriel knew that Haku’s intention had been all along to draw him out, to bring him here, to get them matched once more in that final apocalyptic battle that would destroy one of them ultimately. Gabriel had no fear. He had all of heaven and a large portion of hell on his side and knew that no matter what happened, Haku Soul would be the one to die. Of that he was certain.

Swallowing the cold air, Gabriel’s fur rose on all ends in the black-gold fire that was so similar to his companion. Samael moved with a burst of speed, rushing forward, leaving his half-brother behind. Gabriel did not wait long to follow, knowing that Samael’s intent was to draw blood and to rip out the beast’s throat. There was no hesitation, and for their purpose, their could not be. Others would be coming soon, and then they would be outnumbered and facing the very fate he had warned his mother about. They had to strike quickly and strike hard, drive the devil wolf down and rip out his throat before their time ran out. All under his fur the muscles tensed, drawing the fur upright, and his legs took off like pistons, rushing forward. While Samael rushed for the face, Gabriel swung wide and turned his attention to Haku’s haunches. It was a hunting tactic—catch the prey off guard, get them off their feet. Once they did that, it would be all be over.
