The silver-furred coyote was not certain if she truly believed in ghosts, demons and hauntings—he own limb had once seemed to be cursed, carrying pain and aches through her journey until the very moment she'd crossed the borders. That was the place where Astaroth had bit her, his final strength wasted to inflict more pain on half-dead Kaena, unintelligible words muttered into her flesh with his last breath. Even then, that had never been clearly proven to be anything other than a creation of her own head; perhaps it was a physical manifestation of punishment her own head had concocted for leaving Inferni and her family behind to chase Eris in the first place. The hybrid could not tell the difference; maybe he had haunted her, maybe she had just made it up inside her own twisted-up brain. Reality and fiction were too difficult to tell apart sometimes, as her dreams of Haku could attest.

The other canine's face began to evince discomfort, her nose gravitating toward the earth as if there were a magnetic force grabbing onto that piercing embedded into her muzzle, dragging it downward. The hybrid needed no clarification; she knew who Vieira spoke of, and her own thoughts reflected that. She had dreamed of Haku, but she had never heard him in her waking hours—for that, she was glad. A frown crossed her face and she shook her head slowly. "No apologies," she murmured, twisting her body to lean forward and gently place her muzzle beside Vieira's. "They are both gone," she said. She did not know this was fact when it came to Sivaro, but she knew damn well Astaroth was dead and buried. She had done the deed herself. "They won't hurt you again," she said, and silently added that she would not, either.
