the moon went up and I went out of my head

There was a reason why Haku’s eyes so rarely danced down to the white branded marks on the multihued man’s arms. Haku’s damaged brain was well on its way accepting that Larkspur’s world could not be his and therefore those mystical marks meant nothing. The earthen hued man held no visible markings, but the lack of visible markings on the outside only intensified the horror found on the instance. Perhaps there was a reason why Haku had taken so to his dark furred acquaintance. The light in his eyes were still lit, however dimly, still there was this hidden sparkle keeping the monsters born from nightmares at bay. Maybe he sought a way out from it out – release and redemption. Life and hope always clung tightest together before separating permanently. Although the shadow creatures belonged to him, the Rosen felt far from comfortable in the presence of their empty eyes.

A grimace rather than a grin slowly stretched the cruel man’s weathered face at the accepting words of the wanderer before him. The demon was pleased, for once seeing strength on one of those many that stalked by the borders when war was by the pack’s doors. Violence united them, it seemed, but so few were worthy of the battle that was to come. It had been silent for so long, but Haku knew that patience would be rewarded later on. Larkspur’s words soothed the man’s burning throat like honey gently relieving soreness. What Larkspur needed could be many things, but the two beasts would surely find what they needed in each other. Haku could give the man whatever he wished as long as it was not a sapphire blue necklace or a black, razor sharp blade.

The man kept silent for a bit, wondering if he understood the words other spoke any more. It was becoming harder to communicate though communication was what held the packs together. It did not help much that Larkspur’s words were accented, though it shouldn’t put additional difficulties on their meanings. Haku only understood greed and treated Larkspur’s words as the brute’s needs speaking. Monsters were few, but powerful. Haku saw that he would have to return the man’s favours, and not even then could he truly expect any kind of loyalty. The King of Dahlia had once promised the earlier Queen that he would protect her and the pack, but those words had gone up in flame and turned into ashes of something from the past. Even his own heart was treacherous. "Whatever you need.." the man spoke slowly, his voice wondering -- wanting the man's answer immediately to see if it was worth granting.
