Inferni was the first clan he had ever belonged to, although his birth litter had been large enough that the single family could technically be considered a clan of its own. It had never been official, and Nala had never truly had a leader figure. More than likely, this was part of why he fawned over Anselm as much as he did. The golden hybrid had been the first being Nala had met since running away from his siblings and their incessent teasing, as well, and Anselm had shown him a kindness in taking him in, despite the war and Nala's obvious incompetence in such matters. He thought he was soing really well, though. He'd protected Inferni from that stupid Myrtle, and now he was protecting Inferni from this female (completely ignoring the fact that she had not come to Inferni or threatened it at all). Nala was being a good coyote for his clan and Anselm, yes he was.
He yipped with glee as he realized that he had actually hit her. That was awesome! Maybe he was winning! If he beat this girl, too, then he could go tell Anselm that he won two fights against two different wolves, and Anselm would be really proud of him. That was all that Nala really wanted, anyway--someone to be proud of him and to be happy to see him. It was not something he had ever been able to experience before, and he thought that he would be able to get praise for fighting wolves. Dsiracted by his happiness at having gotten her, Nala did not realize she was running at him again until she hit him, though it was not very direct and she knocked into his back legs, sending him flying into a heap. He figured he must have thrown her off with his awesome fighting skills. He stood, shaking himself off as he turned towards her again, baring his teeth as he leapt forward with the intention of pinning her with claws and teeth, if he could. She was a lot bigger than him, though, and a better fighter... But all he wanted was someone to be proud of him, and he was trying really hard.
