His words spurred her mind to kick-start into overdrive. She couldn’t help but ponder on the idea of not belonging to any pack; was that possible? It seemed likely, as she had always spent her life alone – travelling from one place to another, being used by one person or another. It never seemed to change. However, with the recent discovery of Snake along the Quart’s Shoreline, she was certain that her destiny had changed. She was sure that he was a symbol of a better life, of a better way to live – and even though she still smoked and drank her life away, it gave her somebody to turn to, somebody to go home to. Well, technically no. Where was home? She didn’t have one – he did. But she wasn’t welcome. She was a wolf, a purebred and they didn’t approve. Coyotes were stubborn creatures, and that was that. There was nothing she could do, and nothing she would do – it would resolve itself eventually and for now she would hunt for a home, she would hunt for her place in the world.

“You could be right,” she replied, distaste on her tongue for the thoughts he had provoked in her. It sparked mild depression, but it didn’t show. Her face blank, and her eyes fixed firmly on his gaze. It was easier that way. “But who knows. I’ll just keep looking.” It was best to remain positive – it seemed that Niro was that type of male, and so she would return the favour. She would bounce off his emotions as it would keep the peace.

Extending her arm she pointed toward the brush line. The thinning shrubberies and scattered trees opening out like a mouth, into territory which was definitely not where she should go. That would cause more issues, and that was something she didn’t want. Perhaps it was time for her to go. “It’s there,” she growled softly, eyes travelling to the point of her digits, and staring. She knew if he stepped forward, she would leave. It was better for the both of them. “Are you leaving now?”
