Night. Normally the mongrel king hated the darkness, just as he hated the cold of winter, but tonight it was to his advantage... The border patrol of his kingdom all but vanished once the sun set; Haven had a new lady friend he wanted to spend time with, Vigilante was usurping Leroy's place as the father of Ayita's children, and none of the females had deemed themselves worthy of a man's work. The coast was clear for the wayward king to slip free under the cover of shadows, and none would be the wiser.

It was conflict that he thrived on, excitement that he sought, but he had plenty of legitimate reason to be seeking a private duel. Just days earlier, he had met with Kaena Lykoi, and seen how haggard and broken the woman had become. She was one of the only females he had respect for, and that was all but gone now. He owed Haku a scar for that, and for shredding Svara, and putting Ruri in danger, and bullying Amaranth, and for Firefly's sake, who had lost her litter... his litter.

Oh, there were a million reasons why the blue-eyed monster needed to be slain, but Jacquez couldn't deny the quickening of his heartbeat, the heat that flushed his face, the pure adrenaline that had his tail lashing and eyes gleaming in the darkness; he wanted a real fight, and Haku was the one who could give it to him.

The one-armed Optime stood boldly in the middle of the snowy field, one hand planted jauntily on his hip. He was in the 'hot zone', as Kaena had called it -- close enough to Dahlia de Mai that the faint wind carried him the individual scent markers of their borders. All he had to do was wait. He was impatient by nature, but not tonight. The air held anticipation, the rustling of nocturnal creatures falling silent out of hushed respect. He would not have to wait for long.

Table by Sie!
