my daddy's got a gun

Also, everyone involved in the thread should have gotten a PM. PM me if you didn't get it. Big Grin ((636))

The motherly instincts of the silver-furred Centurion had been entirely suppressed by some other seething mad creature, one that did not care if King was minutes-fresh from the womb. Childhood didn't matter—the puppy was an extension of Haku Soul, and it could not be allowed to live. What was his idiot-brained mother thinking, anyway, dragging him out into these very woods here with a war going on? At least Gabriel had been smart enough to send Talitha and Ezekiel away (even though Kae knew even she would not have listened to such a commandment, and her age made her nearly likely to receive one). But here this woman was, puppy in arms, flaunting the diseased seed of Haku Soul around like it was some kind of shining trophy.

Drawing her lips back into what might have been a grin, save for the gnarled yellow canines and the twisted look in her remaining fire-gold eye, the hybrid made a sharp, harsh sound in her throat that passed for a laugh. “Do you know how many members we have, either?” she taunted, mimicking the woman's higher-pitched voice with her own raspier tone. “I'll have Haku's skull hanging on our borders soon, and your little puppy there will just be the sideshow. Tiny little skull to match daddy's big, smashed-up one,” she said, directing her speech toward the growling grizzled ball of fuzz now, again her voice taking on the higher pitch.

As the multi-hued wolf sounded her call, pride didn't keep Kaena from doing the same for a second; war made no heros from arrogance and haughtiness, and even the silver-furred coyote knew when she needed Inferni's assistance. Her trilling coyote yap sounded over the lands, urgency demanding the assemblage of her fellow coyotes. They were needed now—their weeks of war preparation, sparring and defense and traps, all of it would be for nothing if they failed to shine through here. The sound of approaching footsteps just moments after she sounded her alarm to the other coyotes was a surprise—until a scarred, ragged, and torn figure emerged from the brush nearby, his lips grinning an empty-headed smile. Frankie.

Sure, he was a sorry representative for the rest of Inferni—his sewn-on tail hung limply from him, and the faintly rotten smell drifted to her even from his present distance; he even still clutched his skull, though he was shockingly cognizant enough to leave it behind as he drew nearer. Despite these things, he had come quickly—perhaps he had been following Kaena; he was rather eager when it came to her. Since she'd accepted him to the clan, he'd been extremely loyal (and annoying). He often tried to creep into her cave, panting heavily and snorting all the while, and she had to throw him out, too. It was just too much—especially with Vieira back in the cave.

Vieira. Rikka. Herself. How many others? Thinking of the fragile, pale coyote and her broken-armed daughter, the hybrid could only growl louder, leveling her gaze again at Tokyo as Frankie crept up to Kaena's side. “What a good boy,” she cooed to the maniac, half-live coyote. “These bad Dahlians want to take your skull, Frankie,” she said, suddenly taking on a tone of seriousness. The sewn-together coyote made a gargled, strangled sound that passed for a growl, sounding more like a rabid monkey than an actual coyote, and stared at Tokyo and King.

Some of the others could be heard in the distance behind her, and she was certain that Gabriel should be on his way to Dahlia with the other contingent by now. No one was very far, and it wouldn't take the rest of Inferni long. Most had been waiting by the western border restlessly when she left, awaiting the sound of a call.
