It was her decision. She felt that every day she was here she was less and less welcome. She loved AniWaya, but it seemed that her spirit guide wouldn’t come to her. She felt bad, she didn’t know enough about their culture or she did something wrong, maybe it was trespassing at the beginning that got her to be denied a spirit guide? Whatever the reason she knew she had to go before she was kicked out.

Liliana had no actual possessions. She didn’t collect anything that she’d bring with her, but she made sure to tidy up the house she lived in, for the next wolf who picked it. She felt tears go to her eyes at the thought of someone taking over her hut. But it had to be done. She found Grace waiting outside the stables. Lili wouldn’t take any tack with her, it didn’t belong to her. What tack she’d used in the past was just borrowed, she preferred bareback anyway. She jumped up on Grace, holding onto a tuft of horse mane and she was up on the horse in no time. Where would she go now? Would she be accepted into another pack? She didn’t know. She wanted to go far away now. Maybe to the other side of Canada? It was called Alaska at one time… but what was it called now? She couldn’t remember. She turned her horse westward and started trotting the horse away from the village and away from Nayati, the thought of leaving him did make her cry and she held onto the horse’s mane. It wasn’t long before they were out of Aniwayan territory and into no man’s land. They trotted outward for a while, not stopping for a good few hours. They kept at it for a few days, stopping to let the horse have to rest, and Lili to torment her mind about where she should go. Lili was depressed unable to pay attention to their direction at the moment. Once she felt it was time for another rest she stopped the horse and just sat by a tree, curled herself up and started crying letting out everything that had gone so bad out in one go, why wasn’t she welcome? Why had she thought she would be good for a wolf pack, her being a dog mix.

There was a sudden noise. That made Liliana’s ears perk, but not enough to make her lift her head. It was a shuffling sound something of a small animal or something, so she just kept her attention on what thoughts were tormenting her.

You sitting and crying? Why not go back?

This voice made Liliana jump up and look around, there in front of her was a porcupine. It wasn’t a normal brown/black color it had a silver sheen to it. Liliana’s mouth opened and closed….what she saw in front of her was something she hadn’t expected to see. She couldn’t speak.

Took you long enough, now stop sulking get back on that horse and get your tail back to where you belong.
The porcupine stood on two legs to get a better look at Liliana, who was still absolutely speechless. The porcupine seemed to be male and rather… well blunt. She wondered if that was how she was if she weren’t so shy.

You’ve been waiting for me? Yes? Well you should have went looking for me hmmm?

Liliana continued to stare at the apparition. Had she gone crazy with grief or was this delightful spiney thing her spirit guide?

But… what… why now?

She asked stupefied, the porcupine rolled his eyes and sat back on all fours again, clearly agitated by Liliana’s idiocy.

Because, that’s why, and that’s all you need to know, so you should just go home now.

Liliana blinked, staring at the porcupine. He seemed to bristle but when the small thing rose it’s tail up to hit Liliana she jumped to her feet. She had enough experience with one to know not to let it touch her. She jumped on her horse, knowing the little beast was serious, but for some reason she felt as though she was in a dream as the porcupine waddles out of existence once again, and Liliana headed back towards Aniway, it was so surreal that she couldn’t help but wonder if she were really dreaming, but the reappearance of the silvery thing in her lap made her think twice, and made her feel stiff, making Grace prance on the spot.

I’m going back I swear!

She said hastily, hoping none of the spines would poke her or the horse. The porcupine seemed satisfied and seemed to waft away again, although Liliana could tell the spirit guide was still with her. It was a presense she could hardly ignore now. It was a different feeling and she was a different wolf… or dog… or whatever it was that she was.
