Hi Marit! WC: 320 {3 points}

Sanuye was still settling into her new home, but she was glad to see that she was already beginning to make some friends with the tribe members. Liliana was her first new friend in the tribe and was eager to tell Nayati that she was already making friends; however, she wanted to get to work on her duties as well. She knew most of her duties were taking care of the fires during the ceremonies, but there was also the Great Fire that was to remain lit and could only be tended by the master fire keeper. The coyote longed to receive such a title and wanted to be the one to tend to the fire herself. She wasn’t greedy or ambitious, she just wanted to make some goals for herself so it didn’t seem she was bored all the time. While there were still some adjustments that needed to be made to her new home, she wanted to speak to Dawali about the great fire and what she would have to do to earn the respect to approach and tend to the great fire.

While on the way to the village, Sanuye found some old feathers laying around on the ground. This was perfect. She wanted some feathers so she could hang them from the entrance to her den. She had a bit of string back at the den that she could use, but for now she was just collecting the feathers that she was going to use. Once she arrived to the village, she looked around, making her way to the Great Fire. She sat at the foot of it and smiled as she could imagine herself here tending to the fire itself. She closed her eyes and began to say a small prayer of thanks in her head. She thanked the high powers for giving her the strength to make it here and find a friendly tribe.

Internship: check!

Even as winter crept up on him and he could feel her chill to the bone, and as his oldest daughter had returned to the embrace of their family in the Great Tribe, leaving him alone, he never failed to see to that there were certain chores that were completed. The Great Fire roared almost stronger as the air grew colder, and he could hear it before the main path took a turn and it came into view. He had helped build it when AniWaya was simply a scouting party awaiting the rest of them, and since then it had grown at, partly, his own hands. It stood strong, and any traveler would likely be able to see it should they gain height to look for it. He was the only Master of the tribe, and even if he hadn't been, it would fall on him to make the decisions that the Masters do, as Chief. So he oversaw Liliana's work with the stables, and had kept a keen eye on the craftsmen, making sure there were enough weapons for the lot of them. He left the hunters to Nayati, even if Nayati wasn't a Master yet; Dawali had known of the Utina's destination in that path before he knew it himself, probably. The Scouts and Warriors tended themselves most of the time, and so his greatest occupation these days was to maintain that pillar of fire that completed their existence in this place, and it was no small task - one which he had never been formally trained to perform.

He walked the path in long, strong strides, carrying with a rope over his back quite an impressive load of firewood. He was used to it, however, proven by how his lanky form was pieced together of lean working muscles, clearly used on a daily basis. This was no ordinary firewood, but was collected from various trees of the same kind, some which grew close to the Village, and some who required a longer journey to find. They burned with a particular odor, and this was what he fed the fire almost exclusively. Looking to his feet as he marched forward to the fire, he very nearly walked onto Sanuye where she sat and (he assumed) looked at their spiritual beacon, so focused was he on the task of carrying his heavy load. Halting, he put the wood gently — as gently as he could, that is — on the ground, and straightened his form to look at her properly. "Hi, Sanuye. I didn't see you there." Though he wasn't always great with names, it wasn't difficult to remember hers; his own sister shared it with her.

So sorry if Dawali gets weirded out. I couldn't help myself XD. WC: 321 {3 points}

Sanuye stared into the fire as if staring into her own soul. It burned with passion and wouldn’t go out no matter what. The coyote wished she could have as much confidence as the fire before her did. She then rose to her feet to approach the flame. She placed her hands over it and pushed the air down on it. She began to guide the fire around her and spin. She could feel the heat of the fire following her as she closed her eyes. She began to dance, occasionally using the Great Fire’s flames to contribute to it. She spun, using her feet to move in a circle as if dancing in the middle of a tornado or flames. She even was able to perform a few flips and jumps as she continued to dance. She could imagine herself moving with the flow of the fire itself. She got lost in her dance that she didn’t even realize someone was coming towards her.

The fire in her soul shot up into the air as she continued her dance. Because her eyes were closed and her moves were so focused, she hadn’t noticed Dawali coming right towards her. She continued until she was right in front of him. She leaned her head in towards his muzzle, but to her, it was to touch her muzzle to the fire. She stopped when she heard his voice and opened her eyes, only to see her muzzle right in front of his. Her nose just barely missed his. The coyote quickly backed away from her chief as her face got red. She brushed the dirt off her skirt. ”Oh…! S..sorry about that Dawali! I didn’t know you where there!” She stopped and closed her eyes, smiling. ”So… what brings you all the way out here?” Not exactly the right thing to say seeing as she didn’t know exactly where he lived.

Poor Dawali Tongue But mostly Sanuye XD

He stood still with the firewood at his feet and watched the female dance, pretty much in her own world. At first he didn't want to surprise her, so he stood still, but as she moved closer to him, the necessity of letting her know he was there, and the awkwardness of doing so, both increased greatly, until he finally spoke, blushing himself when she did too, from having been so close to him, and not even knowing. It was both in sympathy to her that he reacted this way, and simply for the awkwardness of the situation. Her innocent dance had very nearly ended in an involuntary kiss for the Chief, and he hadn't wanted that. The male cleared his thought and straightened his posture, as if some of the awkwardness would free him from its grasp by doing so, but his voice was almost a mumble. "Uh, that's okay Sanuye. Don't worry about it." Luckily, the girl had enough sense to change the subject, and Dawali followed up with an answer eagerly. "Oh, I tend the Great Fire," he said, motioning towards the bundle of firewood on the ground. "We lack any Masters here, except myself, so I do most of the Masters' work. Of course, the Fire is one of the more important chores." To have the fire die out would be catastrophic. It was a powerful symbol of so many things, and should it die due to lack of care, he would have failed not only one of the most sacred things in this world, but every single of his tribesmembers, as well, here, and everywhere. It was a big load to carry, but one that he felt honored to perform, and so it was notreally a burden.

Sanuye felt like the worst tribe member of all time. Her little dance had almost caused the most awkward moment for her and one she wouldn’t soon forget. She could feel her tail curling in between her legs as her ears folded down. She could see the awkwardness in the chief’s eyes and started to wish she had never closed her eyes to begin with. The hybrid was just so used to doing that dance with her eyes closed that she never tried it any other way. The next time she did her dance, she would make sure there was no one else around so that this would not happen again.

That god Dawali took up her changing the subject and watched as he picked up the firewood. She watched as the chief moved over to the Great Fire and the coyote followed right behind him. She listened carefully as he mentioned he was the one who tended to the Great Fire. Did this mean that there were no other fire tenders in the pack or was she the first one to ask for permission to tend to the magnificent fire? She gave a small sigh before she raised her ears back up. Her tail moved out as she stood next to the blazing flame. ”Sounds like a lot of work. May I assist you in tending it or am I not allowed to tend the Great Fire just yet?” She wanted to help Dawali and prove to him that she was qualified for tending to the flame seeing as her foster father was the master back at the Great Tribe. The hybrid was so eager to get started, but it was not her place to begin tending unless she had permission to do so. She took a seat next to the fire and wait for him to answer her question.

They moved together to stand more comfortably close for conversation. He was happy to hear her offer to help him in his chores to keep the Great Fire alive, although she could not aid him much. "Well, you could assist me, although you could not feed the fire." His face took on an apologetic mask, but he smiled quickly thereafter. "You see," he began, slowly putting the firewood down at his feet to free his hands. He spoke more comfortably when they were free to move. "Only second-rank Fire Keepers, or Master Fire Keepers may actually feed the Great Fire. The lowest ranked ones may only collect firewood and aid their superiors in other tasks, such as teaching the children about the Fire, or finding other supplies." In the Great Tribe, it had been only the Master that was allowed to feed it, but there had been more than one master in each profession then, and here there were none. Dawali had decided to alter it for the sake of his own survival; he could only go on for so long, doing every Master's chore, when there were no one to share the burden with him. "You see, since there are no one else to complete these tasks, I as the highest ranked individual in the tribe must take responsibility for them. We have to honor the Great Fire, and letting untrained hands tend it could only damage our standing with the Spirits." Rarely did the Chief express words related to AniWayan beliefs; they were so incorporated in him that he was them, and had little need to say them. But Sanuye was young, and had not yet had the chance to learn everything. Dawali had had many years to pick up on these things, after all.

Sanuye was a bit disappointed to hear that because of her rank she was not ready to feed the flames of the Great Fire. This was her duty and to find out that she was not ready yet put a huge setback on her mood. She was a bit satisfied that she would be able to help out Dawali as he fed the flames. The coyote moved over to his bundle of firewood that the chief set at his side as she listened to why she was not able to aid him in his task as she had hoped. She had to be one more level in her field before she was able to help him. The hybrid understood now, but still felt sorry for the male because he had to do all of the master’s work. She was more determined now that before to help him and show that she had the skills to be the fire master of AniWaya.

Sanuye smiled as she began to lift the bundle of firewood into her arms. She may not have been the strongest around, but it was the least she could do to help him with his duties. She listened to him as she moved back towards the Great Fire. The coyote shook her head gently as the tip of her tail wagged. ”It sure does sound like a lot of work for you Dawali. I’d be more than happy to help you out in any way I can. I don’t really have anything else to do anyways.” The hybrid stopped and waited for her chief before she began her part of the work, even if it wasn’t doing much at all. She was satisfied enough with learning the wisdom of the tribe from her chief. She knew how important the Great Fire was to the pack and she was not going to let it die so long as she was her to care for it.

Trying to throw in a few extra words for SSWM, assuming you're okay with this as you're participating too? Smile

As the highest ranked in the tribe, there were many chores that fell on him to do. All of the Masters' duties, for example; managing the stables, managing the Great Fire, ordering the Warriors around, as well as the Scouts, were just some of them. Additionally he had to take care of patrols, make sure the storages were full and ready for the colder parts of the year, and as the Master medic himself he needed to maintain a storage of medicine, which took quite some time to make. But above them all rose the necessary maintenance of the Great Fire, and he thanked the spirits that he had two lower ranked keepers to help him gather firewood, else he might have perished with all his chores. It was difficult to stay calm when there were always things to do, and her e hoped with every passing day that his tribesmembers would feel their obligation to the tribe and dedicate themselves to their tasks. Only then could Dawali consider which of them could be Masters, and he desperately needed Masters. Still, he knew that it was an incredible honor to be allowed this rank, and he did not complain. Still, it was unavoidable that his old joints ached from time to time.

Smiling, the Chief nodded to her offer. "Thank you, Sanuye. It is good to know that you feel dedicated to your part in the Tribe." he moved his hands in patterns as he spoke, matching the rhythm of his words with the nods of his head. "You can help by collecting firewood and stacking it over there -" he pointed to a little wall of firewood that was stacked against one of the side-walls of the Town Hall "- so that we are always in surplus. It can be tiresome to collect it for just one person, as this Great Fire does consume a lot of it." He smiled, almost jokingly, as if excusing the Great Fire for its size. Naturally, it took quite a bit of wood to fuel the mighty roar of flames. "Furthermore, the beginner Fire Makers are expected to help collect firewood to the communal storage in the center of the village, as well as aid any higher ranked Fire Keeper in anything they need help with." He halted for a moment, smiling sheepishly. "Of course, there aren't - there's just me. I'll be sure to call on you if I do need help with something - at ceremonies, perhaps," he said, smiling. In the Great Tribe, the Fire Keepers had played a significant role in ceremonies, and put on magnificent fire shows. Perhaps one day his own tribe would be wise and large enough to display similar arts. He certainly hoped so.

Sanuye smiled happily as he showed her some praise for the dedication she was giving to her work. While she still felt bad that she wasn’t able to do much to help out her chief, she was able to show that she was there to make sure that the spirit of the Great Fire lived on and never died down. The coyote listened carefully as he began to explain the jobs that were available She would be able to gather up some firewood to prepare the tribe for the upcoming season. She moved over to the pile of logs that they already had so that she could determine how much more she needed to get. She was also thinking about making something that she would be able to use to cover the wood when it rained or snowed. The hybrid turned her head and wagged her tail when Dawali told her he would ask for her help in the ceremonies. She gave a small bow as she wagged the tip of her tail. ”Thank you Dawali. I’d be more than honored to help you in the ceremonies.” As much as she loved the thought of working by his side, she’d rather do it when she was of a higher rank in her tier. She wanted to actually be able to help him tend to the fire rather than just collecting some wood. She hoped that one day she would be able to become the master fire tender like her father. She learned from him and wanted to put the skills she had learned to some good use. While she knew that collecting wood was important, she knew it was more important to make sure that the fire remained lit. She let out a soft sigh before turning her attention back to the chief and helping him with his duties.

Once Sanuye was done with helping out her chief, she figured she would head back home to work on some of the work she had set aside. She still had to working on making the pasture for her companion back home and she wanted to make sure she could make a place for him to stay whenever the weather began to get bad. She smiled to Dawali as she turned to head out of the village. ”I should be heading home now Dawali. I have things to attend to. I still have to finish up the pasture I have there.” She paused and looked to Dawali. He was welcome to join her if he wished, but for now she figured she would let him go back to his other duties, seeing as she was sure he had some other and better things to do rather than talk to her. The coyote strolled away from the village and headed back up in the direction of her den. She arrived and moved over to her companion before heading towards her den. The hybrid yawned and stetched out her arms. If Dawali had chosen to stay behind, she would crawl into her den, ready to take a nap before she got back to her work. If the chief had come with, the would move over towards the work in progress pasture and ask for him to help her with aligning the logs so she could begin the wooden fence.

I'm using the opportunity to close the thread - you know why. I am also terribly sorry not to have posted at all, while being so clearly active OOCly. It may not seem like it but I have been super-busy, and have had not a lack of a muse, but simple writer's block. I hope you can forgive me <3

The girl listened intently as he spoke, his hands gesticulating towards the subjects of his conversation every so often. He wore a smile as he spoke, warmed by Sanuye's genuine wish to serve the tribe, and her generally pleasant demeanor. She simply nodded and followed his "instructions" - rather, they were more like explanations of how things worked around here. If it was a little surprising that he had to explain at all, her being from the Great Tribe, he didn't notice, so used to having to present the concepts through which he ran his tribe to most its members.

"I will be sure to call on you, Sanuye. I think you can rise quickly in the ranks, with such devotion," he said, not shy to give compliments. Having raised two daughters on his own, the male was very familiar with being supportive.

He nodded his had quickly as she politely ended their encounter. "Certainly," he said with a smile and a movement of the hand as if to say it was no big deal and no reason to explain. Her choice of polite words and his instinctive body language were both simply part of a language they used almost automatically, and for Dawali it was not something he really controlled. If he did try, he only caught himself already halfway through the gesture, and thus had given up any such notion of being able to control it. "It was very nice talking to you, Sanuye." he smiled warmly, honesty clearly visible from the gleam in his eye. Dawali liked to think he was good at portraying positive feelings. As good as he was bad at concealing bad feelings, at least.
