ooc;; 08.12.10 forests around the caves

Anathema had officially been created yesterday and Theodore Stone had spent his first night in a cave. It was uncomfortable and cramped and his back ached from the hard and bumpy ground he had lain on for a few short hours in the night. He had made up his mind this morning to find a comfier den in the underground cave system or else make a den outside of the tunnels. He would need to find something more comfortable to sleep on than the floor, but this morning would not be spent dwelling on how uncomfortable his nights sleep had been. He needed to stretch out the kinks in his back, but he also needed to start training again. He had a pack to protect and he wasn't going to do that unpractised.

Muscles rippled as he emerged from one of the two large entrances to the Anathema tunnels. Winter was just beginning to pick up and the ground was covered in snow. Teddy remembered last winter when he'd set off on his own adventure. He nearly hadnt made it due to a frozen river that had been unable to take his weight. Dying by water was surely one of the worst ways to go. Hardened mind flitted the memory away, telling himself that he was here now and he shouldnt be bothered about what had happened to him. Cerulean eyes glinted in the weak sun that was trying to hard to break through the fog that had encompassed the Halycon Mountains during the night. It wasnt working that well. A brisk wind played with his fur and the thin white stripe on his forehead creased as he frowned. Those sparkling eyes spotted the small woodland they had claimed not too far away from the stretch of open meadow that lead up to the tunnel entrances.

Teddy trotted eagerly down the slope, back stretching out as he stopped and pushed his head back whilst stretching his back. Once he was done, he shifted into his optime form and quickly threw on the clothes he had bought with him- a pair of loose fitting black trousers and his knife belt. He wore nothing on his top half, preferring to keep his torso bare when training. He seemed to melt into the trees at that point and he used a technique he had taught himself many times over- seeing the trees themselves as enemies. He began to slash and twirl in an exotic dance, feeling his muscles begin to strain as he worked his way throw the army of trees, training to be the protector he had always been.

Big Grin

She hadn't been able to carry much with her between the old pack and this new place, only a few jars and vials. The poisons that she made were very potent, though, so it was alright. She didn't need much. What she had would likely last her through winter if she didn't use too much at once, and then she could go searching the forests of 'Souls for the plants that it would take to replenish her stocks.

The Angela still had the hunt on her mind at this moment, though, a snow-hare hanging from her jaws. Its fur was stained dark from the fatal wound, her own muzzle showing flecks of red as well. She was a very proud and skilled hunter with much experience in the area, and it hadn't been too difficult of a catch.

Naniko didn't have too much of a preference for one form or the other, but today she was in her optime form. As her heartbeat began to slow down she pulled the rabbit out of her jaws and held it in one hand as she walked, licking blood from her muzzle. She was headed back toward the two main tunnels that led into the pack's caves so that she could offer the creature to Scorpius to play with.

A sound made her look up as she walked, a crunching in the snow and dead leaves that were scattered all around the forest floor. She stood and simply observed the warrior's dance that was taking place, standing a quarter of a mile away, curious. She'd never seen such a thing before. After a short time she cleared her throat, though, trying not to startle the warrior with her sudden presence.

Pleasure raced through him at the physical nature of this task. He had been travelling for so long that he had never truely stopped to train his muscles, simply allowing them to become accustomed to his needs when he came to a clash with another male in the wild. The premeditated way with which he trained now was proof that he was settling down, making something that was worth fighting for. He had never been one to think about the future, he preferred to live in the moment much more than to plan ahead. But now he was part of a pack and he wasnt just responsible for himself anymore. The fact that most of his pack was made up of females and pups- him being one of four grown men in the pack, he felt the need to protect all of them equally. In some ways, he felt bound to protect the males as well, although he would never admit it.

For all his dancing and twirling, Teddy had made progress through the small woods outside his home. Large gashes in the trees that werent deep enough to kill the trunk but deep enough to make an impression made up a zigzagged path of where he'd been. He had stopped in a small clear, a few square feet of snow that was untouched by the trunks of the trees. Adrenaline was pumping through his veins and a crooked smile flashed across his lips at the feeling of being so alive. He quickly returned his knife to his belt, panting softly from his excursion. It was then that he heard the small cough that was the only announcement he got from his leader. The grin returned and he sauntered over to the pale lady.

”Taking a nice long look at my muscled physique now were you Ugly?”

He asked, teasing smile plastered across his face. Still, he was nothing if not a gentleman and he grasped gently hold of her hand, bringing his lips down to graze her knuckles before releasing her once more. Perhaps she was out on pack duties, but surely she would have time for her little Piggy?

"If that was what I saw, perhaps. Since it's not, no" She chuckled. Naniko was glad to have Teddy in the pack, even if he did sometimes get under her skin. She was learning how to converse with him in a way that satisfied them both, not jumping to conclusions or shoving knives in his face any more. He was beginning to show his loyalty to the pack and would continue to do so over time.

"Where did you find such a nice weapon? She had gotten her daggers from a member of the cult pack, given to her as she had learned more about poisons and their uses, but wasn't very skilled in using them yet. Naniko felt that it was essential that she learn at least basic fighting skills as a leader, in case she needed to defend the land. She knew the basics...but there was much more for her to learn.

Her scathing words would have hurt someone less than him, but from the short time Theo had known Naniko their conversation skills had come a long way. He was reminded of the first time he had met the pale woman- his compliment had been completely misunderstood and she had pulled a knife on his ass. But it had appeared they had begun to understand each other on a certain primative level that meant they no longer felt the need to pull out knives and swords and daggers at all available moments. So the comment about his 'non-existent' physique made him chuckle softly in her direction.

”Awh come on Nani... you know you loves these biceps!”

He grinned, flexing his arms over his head so his biceps bulged. He leadned his head sideways and kissed his arm in a teasing manner before offering the privalege to his leader. Knowing she wouldn't take it he grinned at her and dropped his arms. Her question about his blade made him glanced down at the sword in his hand and he smiled softly at it. He had had this sword for a while now, just over a year to be exact. He glanced back up at Naniko, presenting the blade as he had been shown to do by his father- placing it across both hands and pushing it forward.

”I would love to tell you I stole it from the corpse of a dead coyote back in coyote country, but that would be a lie. And I am no lier! My father gave it to me on first first birthday, along with my brother. He was big on our fighting careers!”

He chuckled, thinking back to the big ceremony his father had made them go through. It had been embarrassing, but it would have been their gravest mistake to voice this opinion. So they had each been presented with a sword, Teddy's encrusted with sapphire's that matched his eyes. He was proud of the weapon and it had been his main choice of weapon ever since. Of course, he was well used to fighting with other weapons and sometimes just his bare claws. Swinging the sword back round, Teddy tucked it by his side, not wanting to hold it out any longer than necessary.

Teddy was always such a jokester. She thought about mentioning the nickname that she had given him, but wondered how much power it would have over him in this situation. She liked the fact that he disliked it, but would making him a little bit upset do her any good? Probably not. She wanted to know more about weapons-work and how he did what he did, where he had learned all his moves. So she'd have to be just a tad bit more civil. So she kept her mouth shut and kept her comment about his minuscule biceps to herself.

He explained where he'd gotten his weapon from and she nodded. She wondered where his father was now. Her own parents had abandoned her as a pup and gone on to new lands, then had Selene and Helios. Apparently Kaelyn was now dead, she had learned, but Roman she didn't know about. She was glad to have her odd sister back in her life, though, for sure. "I see. He was big on fighting, then. I only have these daggers..I was hoping I might get some help from you in learning how to wield them, but I didn't know if you had the knowledge"

Teddy looked down at his sword and not for the first time in his life he gave a soft grin to the weapon. This sword was, despite the fact that it was given by his father, special to him. In all his travels he had never lost this weapon, nor harmed it really in any way. He had learnt from a young age that he must take care of his weapons and this sword was no different. He cleaned it vigorously till it shined, the sapphires clinging to the hilt given the same treatment. It was a beautiful sword, perfectly balanced so that it felt like an extension of his arm when he weilded it. Just about as long as his legs, the sword was long enough to slice a head off at least a metre away. The silver was blemished only by the short strip of gold that adorned the blade starting at the hilt and stopping a few centimetres up. Carved into this plate of gold were three japanese symbols- honor, justice and courage. Teddy glanced up from examining his sword when Naniko began to speak, not wanting to be rude.

A small smile flitted over his lips at Naniko's wrong assumption. Though this sword was Teddy's preferred weapon, that didnt mean he didnt fight with others. In fact, right now in the black pants he wore were three daggers and a tiny battle axe that was come in handy for throwing. Teddy came forward to retrieve Naniko's daggers before moving back and weighing them in his hands. Both were about the same weight he would have guessed but they were for different purposes. One of them was weighted more on the blade side and was therefore better used for slashing. The other was the opposite and was weighted hilt side- more power in there fore stabbing. He handed them back to her was a smile and began his lesson.

”Of course I have the knowledge. The dagger in your left hand is for slashing and other such agile moves. The dagger on your left is for stabbing and point-blank combat. You can of course use both at the same time, but you need to know which one you're using for what.”

He loved teaching, despite his father's unorthodox methods that had meant himself and his brother were both pretty messed in the head. He stepped back and away from Naniko, placing his sword in the crook of a branch in a nearby tree. Bending down he drew out a short dagger from a tie around his leg and reach in his right pocket to pull out a longer dagger. Lifting up the longer of the two, Teddy looked at Naniko, wondering if she knew which one this would be used for. The obvious length of the blade was important in slashing, but would the pale woman know this?

”What is this dagger used for?”

He questioned, interested in seeing whether the pale lady had any commen sense in her brain. Teddy might be a total pervert when it came to females, and a complete jackass when it came to other males, but with his weapons he was at home.

FINALS ARE OVERRRR. yay. :] also, his directions are confusing! which left hand is what now? XD

She listened carefully to his words, frowning in concentration. Naniko hadn't been the student in any situation in a while, and it was different. She didn't mind learning as long as he was wasn't a jerk about things and respected her willingness to obtain this knowledge. Nani looked at the long dagger that he produced, clearing her throat. It had a pretty long blade..."I'm guessing you would want to slash with that one? The longer the weapon the harder it is to get in close, right?"

This was a completely foreign subject to her, but that was what made the most sense. If she could get at a stranger with one of her daggers and cause an injury, that would be the end of it. Hers were poison-tipped, so even a small scratch would cause irreparable damage. She hoped that she would never have to use the daggers, but wanted to be prepared just in case.

She was a good pupil- she appeared rapt by what he was saying. She didn interupt him, didnt ask any questions until he gave her his own dagger. She appeared to study it for a moment, thinking about what he just said before she spoke. Whilst many would simply speak and not think about their answer Naniko thought it through before she answered. A nod was given to confirm that she had the correct answer. Despite the fact that Naniko was two years older than him and therefore should have been teaching him, he found that this was working nicely. Taking the dagger back from the pale woman, he turned and demonstrated a simply slashing motion before slipping it back into his pocket.

”Well done. Longer usually means its for a long distance injury like slashing. However, one must be careful with longer weapons- they snap easier.”

He explained with a soft smile in her direction. His father had taught him early in life that too much power through a longer weapon would snap it- his favourite training sword had gone that way. He'd been upset but his father had clipped him round the chin and told him to stop whining about it. He'd never gotten upset about his weapon after that. Thinking on it now, Teddy would probably get very mad if the sword he'd been given by his father got broken. That would be a scene of murder no doubt. Glancing back towards Naniko he handed over his own sword, a little warily.

”Lets see if you can tell me what this sword is used to- slashing or stabbing?”

He said with a smile. He enjoyed teaching, even if this was one of his first goes and trying. He usually just lost his temper, but Naniko was his leader and he was happy to teach her these things.

She was a very calculating wolf; she had to be to do the job that she did. Naniko had held the leader position in other packs and such a thing came naturally to her. At least, she thought that she did a good job as a leader. She would have to wait and see, with this pack. It was nice to have someone that she trusted as her second-in-command and not a bunch of backstabbers. She'd been the top dog in Crimson Dreams until Savina and Anu had exiled her.

"Well..." She thought about the question, brows knitting. "I'm not sure. I've never used a sword before in my life..it's thicker than a dagger and heavier..I dunno how well I could slash with it." She said, lifting it up and down a bit. "So I don't know." Naniko shrugged. "How'd you get all of this information on weapons, anyway? Were you always a fine warrior in the past?"

Teddy could see the uncertainty in her eyes before she replied. She had no idea about swords it appeared and he grinned softly at her. She held his sword gingerly as though she would hurt it if she held it too tight. A different innuendo popped into his mind and he chuckled to himself at the thought. He shouldnt be this flambouyant with thoughts about his leader, but sometimes he just couldnt help it. She spoke then, distracting him from thoughts of her holding something else rather gingerly and he tuned in to her words. Taking his sword back from her he balanced it expertly on his finger before holding it firmly by the hilt. The sword was more for stabbing than slashing, but the length would make slashing possible if it were forced to. A little duel-purpose never did anyone any harm.

”Its okay. This sword is more for stabbing than slashing- there's more weight in the hilt for more power. But its length says that, if pushed, it could stab well enough”

He explained before slipping the sword back in its sheath and laying the sheath in the crook of a branch. He had only brought his sword and the dagger he kept on him as all times out here but his weaponry consisted of a few more choice weapons. He had a small axe as well as a large one, both of them had come in pretty useful. He had three more swords, a sharpened rapier amoung them. That was a wicked weapon- the whipping motion would give the appearance of being in one place and the next thing you knew your eyeball was popped. It had saved him a few times now and he liked the little rapier's viper-like motion. However, Naniko had asked another question and he gave her another look.

He was tempted to joke with her, tell her that he had been born with two swords strapped to his back and he had come out with a war cry on his lips. It would be a funny story to tell but there was something in him that wanted to tell the truth, for once. Blue eyes that were usually so empty and reflective warmed slightly and began to move with an emotion akin to pity. It wasnt an emotion he liked to wear, but that was all he could think about when he thought of his father.

”My father wanted two of the best warriors around and he was overjoyed when my mother gave birth to two sons. From the moment we could walk my brother and I were trained as warriors. And beaten if we stepped out of line. It wasnt much of a childhood but I learned some valuble life tricks.”

He explained with a soft shrug of his shoulders. He had gotten over long ago that his father had been a tyrant and his mother had been to scared to stand up to him. It was just the way the world went for him.

Each wolf had their own story of how they had come to be the way that they were. She hadn’t been trained to be much of anything other than a regular pack wolf, but had learned how to care for pups at a young age. Her parents had abandoned her as a pup and she’d been adopted by a wily female from the Clouded Tears pack, Iskata Sadira. Iskata had given birth to two pups soon after Naniko had come to live with her but a few months later the mother had taken off completely. Naniko had found herself in the care of two young pups at just five or six months of age, herself. She’d received help with feeding them from Laruku, the alpha of the pack, and had made a friend from the Syemv pack, Conri, who had also helped her out.

As time had gone on, she had found herself spending more and more time with Conri and had formed a solid friendship with him. That had slowly turned into a serious mateship as the pups grew up and left to go off on their own adventures, and after the old lands had burned down she had rejoined her mate over the mountain and they had formed their own pack together, Twilight Vale. But things could only be so perfect for so long, and as they always seemed to, they fell apart. Conri had some mental illness of some sort…he had raped her and then left the territory completely, never returning. She had heard rumors that he had become evil and had murdered, but she’d only seen him once or twice after his departure from the lands and couldn’t judge that for herself.

One of her sons looked just like Conri, her son Haven Aatte. Last she knew he was living in that Cour des Miracles pack, as she had inquired about him there before, but she didn’t know if he had stayed there or moved someplace else. ”Sounds like a hard life. I guess we each go through things that make us stronger in different ways. I’m glad you’re here now and not there, though.” The information on the sword was useful and she gave him a nod of understanding. It made sense…the sword was heavy, and if one had the strength behind the blow then she could see it being useful for stabbing. It was also long, though, so if the wolf was farther away then they could slash with it as well.

She was struck with a bit of curiosity about Theodore but pursed her lips, unsure if she ought to ask him or not. She ultimately chose to ask rather than not, to open her mouth and let the question out. ”Where’s your brother now? I have a brother and sister that are still missing…Pontiac D’Angelo and Helios D’Angelo. My parents left me and Pontiac as pups and had Helios and Selene, my other sister, a while later, away in new lands. Pontiac I knew as a pup and she’s come back a few times, but I’ve never gotten to meet Helios.” She shared. If he didn’t want to answer her question then she wouldn’t hold it against him, and she offered him an out. ”Does your sword have a name?”

The young warrior was never one to willingly take a trip down memory lane. He didnt like the fact that when at the mercy of his fathers anger he had been helpless and pathetic. He didnt enjoy going back to a part of his life that he had been unable to control. But it seemed he was going to anyway, no matter his will of the matter. Like a flashbulb it flickered across his eyesight, the two small boys cowering before their father, their dark mother in the background a worried yet unmoving expression. She had cared about her boys, but her fear for her mates anger held her in place. And they survived didnt they? They were never so harmed that any lasting damage had been done, so she could remain quiet and secretly clean them when Charles wasn't looking. It was always that way- skulking around with a gash on the head to a mother who could only comfort them in the early hours of the morning when her tyrant mate was sleeping or hunting. Things like that really messed with your head.

Her soft voice brought him back and he gave a sardonic smirk in her direction. Sure his life had been bad, but that didnt mean he wanted pity. Pity was for weak minded people who were suspective to that kind of shit. Still, it felt good to hear that he was wanted here, despite his dislike for her pity. Stretching his back by pulling his arms over his head the warrior flashed impressive abs at his leader with a shameless grin. He had spent all his life building his physique up and despite many, he had used this bulk to his advantage. He didnt like the idea of having all this muscle and not using it. The anger within him made sure that he had ways of releasing it and the warrior used his physique often.

”Yeah it was hard, but I broke free and here I am.”

He commented with a silent huff of laughter. Black ears cupped forward as Naniko asked about his brother. Although a cruel smile twisted his lips his insides were in turmoil. He hadn't seen his brother in over a year, so in all honesty he wasn't going to give an accurate picture of the man. They'd also last seen each other on very bad terms- in fact Lochlan had been trying to rip his throat out when they had come to blows over that tart. She hadn't even meant anything to Theodore, but it appeared she had meant a lot to his brother. Looking back on it, it had been rather childish to sleep with her. But at the time it had seemed like a very good idea. He listened as Naniko explained about her brothers and sisters, trying to put names to faces was hard.

”My brother and I don't get along. Lochlan hates me for what I did to him, and looking back I don't blame him. I don't even know if he's alive. Same goes for my parents, but I wouldn't exactly care if Father were dead.”

He offered with a callous undertone to his voice. He marvelled at how this had turned from a training session to a reminise about all the bad things he'd done in his life. Of course, there were many more than he could mention and he supposed he should tell his leader about the fight in Halifax a few days ago. But he held his tongue as she asked whether his sword had a name. It did have a name, but that name was his secret alone. He allowed a soft curve of his lips to show as he shook his head.

”No, it has no name. My father did not believe in naming his weapons- he said that naming something was taming it and he never wanted his weapons to be tame.”

He explained with another twist of his lips. It was quite obvious Teddy's opinion on his family from his facial expressions alone, which were usually quite impassive.

She was enjoying this lesson, enjoying being a student instead of a teacher for once. It had been a while since she had felt the thirst for knowledge that she had felt when she had seen him with that weapon, and it was refreshing to her. She didn't ask what he had done to deserve his brother's hatred, not wanting to delve too deeply and upset him, and simply nodded instead. He didn't have to tell her anything that he didn't want to, and she didn't want him to feel pressured to tell her something just because she was a leader. Naniko was probably better off NOT knowing the pasts of the canines who she had given a home to.

"I'm glad you got here to us and am proud to have you as a beginning warrior of Anathema. As your skill grows, I'm sure you will move up your tier...and will someday stand at as a master warrior in our pack." She bowed her head to him for a moment. "Thank you for the lesson. It's reassuring to find that you do actually know what you're talking about when it comes to these sharp objects...and I'm glad I offered you a home here." It was as close to a compliment as he was going to get. She nodded to him once more before turning back in the direction from which she had come, disappearing into the fog.

His trip down memory lane was closed now, his mind shuttering out as if his life had never existed before he had found Naniko. He didnt want to go back there and he found that he actually quite enjoyed his life just how it was. He had freedom and security, too things he felt he had never had before. Although being on his own for a year travelling had given the warrior enough freedom, he had never had the security that had enable him to fall into a deep slumber. Though his sleeping patterns were still messed up, the young man had been getting more sleep than the past year. Of course, he still needed to make a home for himself but at least he knew that he could do so without the threat of being killed or maimed or whatever else another sought to do to another. Pushing the thoughts away was easy and he focussed once more on his pale leader.

She said she was glad he was here and he surpressed a smile of gratitude for the leader at that point. Teddy was never a sentimental person and he rarely ever showed emotions such as happiness or joy. But he was pleased that his leader was proud of him and he knew that his father had succeeded in his mission at that point. Teddy was a good warrior, maybe even a great one. He just needed to prove this point to her. Perhaps she would want another lesson some time soon and Teddy could show her that he was more than just a Dasa. He was a leader and he was looking forward to learning and building his strengths here. Perhaps he would put on a tournament in the near future to see if there was any potential in the pups that had recently been born and the pups that were a little older.

”You can count on it...”

He murmered with easy confidence. Theodore had always possessed the determination to be the best and this was just another conquest for him. He had no intention of staying at this basic level and only sought to prove that he didnt belong here. Blue eyes caught the nod of her head and he returned the gesture with a small flurry of fingers that allowed him to bow with finesse. She admitted that she was glad he was here and Teddy allowed the secret smile to tug his lips from his bowed position. As he straightened up and watched the older woman turn away, Teddy gave a low wolf-whistle in her direction. He could never just let anything be serious. However, he had no more words to say to her and instead watched her leave until trees obscured her. Gathering his sword in his arms as sliding it back into its sheath, Teddy stretched his muscles before heading back into the caves to see if any of the cave's caught his attention. He would need a home soon.
