Of all people, Noss was probably the last one to expect being covered in anything 'cute'.
When the Cercatori d'Arte caravan had come by, he had traded some of his furs from previous hunts for five baby chicks--those of which came in a small wooden cage that had plenty of room for them...for the time being. The chicks had stayed in the hotel since then, but with foresight it was feasible that they would grow soon and need larger accommodations. Ezra had been nice enough to help him with building the beginnings of the coop, but it still needed to be finished in the interior, and a proper fence needed to be made. The problem was finding proper fencing that could keep the little birds from escaping.
At the very least, as he found himself outside by the stables that day to feed the little buggers, the pups seemed to enjoy them quite a lot. There were a lot of wood-shavings on the ground, and yet the pups were making some flit into the air as they pounced about after the little chicks, sometimes landing one--gently so they weren't injured--and sometimes just skidding about in a miss. Oi! Econ sni kagu he hena! Ahiga, icu kuta etaha heci! he barked, knowing that, although they did not know Lakhota, his tone would send the message. It seemed as if the pups' bringing of AniWayan to the Court had rekindled Noss's use of his native tongue, so he found himself using it more frequently than before around them. Ahiga was on a pole that Noss had just erected for perching--when the chickens were older--and hanging by his forepaws--the ever-curious pup he was. Two of the five chicks had decided that running wasn't working and had taken shelter underneath Noss, who was currently crouched and fixing the other end of the pole to the floor. And there was still a lot to do...
