Speech is in Russian cause I am too tired to type in his cute accent.

As soon as Rurik had pointed out the way, the young Russian was bounding down the street. Of course, this was only one step closer to them finally submitting to slumber. The small family still needed to establish their sleeping spots and find themselves some food. But another step forward was another step towards sleep, and so Silas would not slow down. He managed to get slightly ahead of his family before stopping, and looking back down the street towards them. Pausing, a new look overtook his features. No longer was a splendid grin plastered on his face, but a tired, contemplative look. Silas had realized something and it made his stomach turn a little. This would be his first night going to sleep out on open land. They wouldn’t be free as they were on the ocean’s waters. They’d need to watch their backs at every moment. The Russo family had stumbled upon land that wasn’t familiar to them. Inside his stomach, the feeling grew and crept. It would be Silas’ personal task to learn the area as quickly as possible after they finished sleeping for the night. Tomorrow morning, perhaps after getting things settled further, he’d begin his task of exploring the city so that his family could remain safe.

The sky had begun to darken, casting deep shadows along the young Russian’s frame. Though the shadows complimented by the dark fur along his face darkened Silas’ features, those icy blue eyes still sparkled in the dim light. They found Lily and he smiled at her. Ever since the passing of their other sister, he had always wanted to keep a closer eye on her. Something seemed to have changed in her demeanor though, as she didn’t seem quite so disheartened to be here. "Maybe one of us could go back to the boat and grab the few things we’ll need for tonight?" The curious, excited youth had been replaced momentarily by the slowly maturing brother. "Dad, maybe you and I can get us something to eat? It’s getting dark, I think maybe it’ll be better if we get inside sooner rather than later." The boy could only hope that they’d come across no trouble tonight.

Yes'm! This would seem like a good place to ends it up, no? :o Word Count: 666 OH NOES.

The excitement of being in a new place was already wearing off for Rurik, and as he climbed back out into the fast-fading daylight his head was already filled with contemplations of settling down. They did need things from the boat, but they also had to actually find somewhere good to settle first. It wasn't going to do them much of any good if they got to the real place where the hotel marker was on the map and there was just a charred pile of rubble, destroyed by a fire without a fire crew to put it out. This city did seem in very good shape, though, and Rurik knew once cities caught fire, they were unlikely to extinguish. Kiev had burned to the ground, though now it was a unique city in that it had been built from the ground up by the ingenious Luperci who now lived there.

Lily bounded ahead after her brother, picking her way more carefully through some of the human debris still littering the city streets. Rusted bikes and rotting cars lined the cracked and breaking curbs on either side of them, though the center lane of the street was mostly clear of such things. Still, Lily didn't want to cut her paw on something particularly rusted—such a thing was sure to cause infection. She didn't know much about medicine and she certainly wasn't aware of something called tetanus, but she was still smart enough to avoid the hell out of the nasty and jagged items just waiting to tear at soft and tender flesh. The only girl of the Russo troop did not feel left out by her sex; Silas had taken quite good care of her, taking a closer watch over his sister since Lizaveta had passed out of their lives. Lily missed having a sister, but having a brother was good, too. If only Anatoliy had decided to come with them. Still, Lily was glad that her mother had some kind of company; he would keep Verusha happy even if her other two children were out playing world explorer for several long years.

They approached the hotel, and Rurik kept his bright blue eyes sharply alert, peering around to investigate their surroundings before they entered the building. He inspected the outer structure and found it was not particularly troublesome. There were no cracks in the exterior, no sag to the roof—by all outward looks, Rurik would've decreed the building quite safe to enter. Still, he stepped before either of his children, taking the initiative to swing open one of the hotel doors. He peered around the dimly lit interior, his eyes falling on a skeleton splayed across the bed, the arms draped all the way across it. He backed right out and shut the door quickly, shaking his head. "Not that one," he said as lightly as he could, moving to the next door. The hotel seemed to have two primary levels, and though the second story did have a walkway, Rurik preferred the ground floors of buildings such as these. It was harder to determine on an upper level the security of the flooring, and the last thing he wanted was for any of them to fall through to the first floor.

The next room was empty, the beds still made up from the last long-dead human maid to have cleaned it. With a grin and a sweep of his arm, he indicated the room to either of his children, and moved immediately onto the next room. Silas was right; they had to get a move on now. Thankfully, the very next room was also empty, and Rurik nodded to Silas. "Alright. Let's head off, you and me. Lily, if you would get candles, clean blankets... whatever else you think we need," the Russian said with a grin, leaving it rather open-ended for Lily to figure it out herself. Silas had already shown initiative and intelligence, and now it was his sister's turn.

alatino Linotype;font-size:12px;line-height:13px;color:#000000;">OMG 666! Rah!! Right, so I'm gonna say we FINALLY end it here and they go hunting and get settled and all that good stuff.

The building that had been designated by the small bed symbol on the subway’s old map was actually still standing. It was his father’s navigation skills that had steered them in the right direction, and Silas grinned over at Rurik for that, even if the older Russo didn’t catch it. While Rurik inspected the integrity of the building, Silas simply stood alongside Lily and let his icy gaze travel over the motel. He wanted to get a good picture of it so that he could begin the process of learning their surroundings. In the dim light, the building looked rather mysterious to him. Eventually, though, Silas knew he would get used to the fact that this was going to be home.

The young Russian took a few steps forward as Rurik opened the first door, eager to head inside. His father, however, deemed it unusable and Silas took a few steps back with a frown. He hadn’t seen what was inside (and wasn’t sure if he wanted to know) and could only hope one of the other rooms would be acceptable. Moving alongside Lily again, Silas threw a glance over his shoulder, taking in the crumbling city that surrounded them. Though he had the feeling they were alone here for now, the Russian half expected to find a figure lurking in the darkness. There was no such thing.

Rurik found rooms suitable for the little family, and then it was time for them to get settled. He sent Liliya off to their ship in order to gather the supplies they’d need for the night, and left both father and son to do a little hunting. The youth wondered how hard it’d be to catch something in the city, and thought perhaps they’d have to head to the outskirts. He hoped it wouldn’t be too complicated of a journey. "Aye, let’s go."
