What parents were supposed to teach their children, what they should instill in their small moldable minds were true mysteries to the sire and dam of the small white collared male. But he did not know the difference, his bright yet shielded mind saw no wrong in the stoic serenity that surrounded his family unit. He saw no fault in the words he spoke that lacked the ragged syllables of words unused or unknown. Such a thing was natural; patience, tranquility. But to his dismay his form would not always cooperate with him, for paws seemed to large for her short limbs and at times they tripped him in his stride. Despite how centered he had been born, nature still created obstacles for the Dahlian.

Dual hued eyes peered into the meek light of the day’s dawn, the shadows long and ominous against the forest’s floor. There was a chill in the air, unlike the warmth that radiated from the den’s opening. The world was different, a different that he did not enjoy, for his twin was not beside him. It was early though, and she still slept beside their Mamaidh beneath the oak tree. It was important that she slept, and with Mamaidh she would always be safe. Honor had been woken, jostled slightly as the coyote had tried to slip past him as he did at times. It was not morning, it was not time to greet the day and yet Dadaidh was awake and standing in the glow of morning.

Honor looked once more into the darkness that was his home, and then took to his paws in hopes of reminding the two legged male that morning had not yet come and that they would all miss him when he was gone. Where he went the boy couldn’t imagine, for it was often that he departed from the woad dam and her children. But the little dark hybrid wished to know why so early, and perhaps he had grown curious enough to know why so often. The roots were troublesome to traverse, and Honor spoke out as the figure of his father grew slightly smaller. “Dadaidh!’

Pocket Puppy! XD

The first tendrils of dawn were beginning to seep into the world and they were drawn into the those obsidian orbs. The spicy scent that covered his body mixed with the soft undertone of the morning dew. A slight fog hung close to the ground, giving the area around the great oak tree an almost mystic feel. Onus had never taken much notice of nature. He had never paused to study it or it's beauty. It seemed his days with Cwmfen had taught him things he had not realized. He still saw the world very differently than she did. She believed in fate, that their paths were preordained. The coyote did not share this view, but he did not mock her or her beliefs. Perhaps he were too cynical to believe in such things. He was too much of a realist to concern himself with what the heavens might or might not have planned. Yet still, he could see the subtle beauty in this nature that she so cherished. Before his life had been as cold and hard as the concrete he dwelt in. With her some warmth had crept into him and it seemed that it had taken root.

The man stretched his limbs and paid special attention to that marred shoulder. He placed a hand on that knotted tissue as he rolled the arm around in its socket. That arm was slightly stiffer than the other and without these daily cares he took to it it would become stiffer still. A vigilante could not afford such a thing. Once his muscles were sufficiently stretched and moved about he took a deep breath of the chilly air and released it slowly. Then he turned to gather his clothes and head out of Dahlia for a bit. He did not like leaving his family behind, but if was ever present it could pose a threat to them. The Soul male was no doubt trying to find him and the more he moved around the harder it would be for the brute. A clawed hand reached out the grab his coat and he noticed a certain resistance in the clothing that was unusual. Before he could inspect it though a voice called out to him.

Onus turned to take in the sight of his son making his way over the roots of the great tree. It was odd to see Honor up so early, and not only that but without Chastity by his side. Was something not right? "What is it Honor? Is something wrong?" the gravelly monotonous voice questioned. Inadvertently his arm that was holding onto his coat moved slightly and he felt that resistance again. Was it snagged on something? The coyote pulled to bring it closer to him and found that it was not, but there was some weight in it. He saw a bulge in one of the pocket and brought it up to his hands, looking inside. A small smile came to his stoic face. "How did you sneak out of the den?" he asked the curled up form residing in his coat.

Chastity had slept in a pile with her brother. The warmth within the den gave no hint of the chill outside, and she slept comfortably. Against her Mamaidh that slept without stirring, the little girl could sleep throughout the night. And so she had burrowed against the black-furred wolf, turning her black back to the world and snuggling her face and paws and tummy in the comfortable scent of her mother’s belly. A soft and contented sigh had passed through her as she fell into sleep and dreamt of exploring and playing with her black and white brother.

But Chastity had woken in the night, the suddenness of her awakening leaving the pull of sleep far behind. She did not feel sleepy, but everyone still slept. For a moment, the girl simply sat up, yawning as she looked around the darkness of the den. She found Dadaidh and it made her happy. He would be leaving soon. She did not know where he went, and she did not understand exactly why he left, but she did know that she wanted to know the answers. The dual coloured eyes looked down at her brother, wanting to wake him up, but she didn’t want to bother his sleeping. And so it was moments before Onus had woken, moments before Honor had been awakened, that Chastity silently climbed over the sleeping bodies and into the pocket of the coat that was discarded and unworn. The air outside could be felt now, and she knew that it was cold. The twin shivered a little, but she wasn’t sure if it was because it was cold or because she was about to walk far from Honor. She paused in the dark den, turning her head over her shoulder. It was still dark in there, and warm too. But maybe she would go with Dadaidh today. A soft, sleepy smile came to her little muzzle and she turned back and continued quietly on her way.

Outside was still a dark, but it was brighter than night. The little hybrid lifted her nose as she sniffed the air—it was just like she had seen Mamaidh do. Content, she hopped down quietly, listening to the night bugs making their music. And then she found it-- Dadaidh’s coat. It looked very warm, and she realized that it was cold. As she walked slowly to the jacket, she turned back again to see if Honor was following. He wasn’t, but the young mind wasn’t worried. She was convinced that the magic that kept them together would somehow magically bring him along. And so she crawled into a little space and curled up, sighing and sleeping.

It seemed as if she had only closed her eyes when the jacket moved. The young girl slept deeply, however, and so she fell back into her sleep. But it moved again, or perhaps several times more, and the young coyote-hued pup was forced awake. She yawned and streatched as Dadaidh’s voice came to her sleep-muddled ears. And then the cold air was let in and the black and white eyes sleepily opened. She saw Dadaidh’s face above her, and she smiled sleepily. "I walked quietly," the little voice yawned in response to his question. It seemed as if her stoicism was well founded. She turned over, ready to go back to sleep. "Are we there yet, Dadaidh?" The girl didn’t know where ‘there’ was, but she thought that they might have arrived. It was definitely a little brighter outside than it had been when she had crawled into the pocket.

The boy was mere steps form the den’s mouth, and yet he felt like he was far beyond his home. There was little comfort in the familiar ground he stood upon, as he stood alone. Everything was different. The tall coyote turned as he heard the boy’s small call. His voice was high in puppish tone, yet his words were not loud and bold. Each he spoke was chosen carefully, taking the rushed emotion from their syllables. Clumsy steps brought Honor to his sire, and there was concern in the things that he said, though not in his tone. Honor was used to hearing the words spoke without the animation of his father’s voice. It seemed like Dadaidh had only one.

“Nothing... Its early.” He answered his creator as duel colored orbs looked up to see his uncovered face. Dadaidh had eyes unlike the rest of them, though just as dark as the single black eye both Honor and Chastity held. Yet at times they were covered with the same sort of cloak that the rest of his body chose to wear. But, in the dawn of day Honor looked up to see the ink dots that he had received only half of. It was a comfort to see the gaze of his father, though in a moment they were torn away from his thoughtful stare to look down at the coat he carried.

Honor approached, and in a small instant the stoic nature of the youth was removed. His nose was pressed against the fabric as his Dadaidh spoke to an unseen creature. But the smell, just a faint scent beyond the spicy odor of Onus, was unmistakably his twin. On his hind paws the boy fought to catch sight of the hiding sister. Her voice drove his search just short of frantic, and his voice spoke to her. “Chastity, where are you going?” Was she leaving? Honor thought for the briefest of moment. No, had they planned a trip? Dadaidh leaving was normal, expected. She going with him, he didn’t understand.

Were you guys assuming he was in the den with them? I didn't know if there was room for all them in there :o

It was truly unusual for Honor to be awake so early and out of the den, that was partially the reason he chose to leave so early. It made the man feel guilty for leaving when they asked him to stay and when they were asleep and safe with their mother he could avoid such feeling for the most part. Of course he never really enjoyed leaving his family for any amount of time but it was a necessary evil that must be endured to the keep them safe. Though he had a feeling his wanderings would become fewer when the twins were older and moving about more. That was when the real danger to them would come. If they were alone and unaccompanied it would be the perfect opportunity for the brute to take them. Onus was already planning ahead and knew he would carefully watch the children from the trees when the wandered without their mother inside Dahlian lands.

The man was relieved to hear report from his son that nothing was wrong and now he had a better idea of what this was about. They were smart little things and Honor must be trying to keep him from leaving or some other such thing. "Yes. It is early." He couldn't think of what else to say. Thankfully his children were easier for him to deal with than most, but there were still times he felt lost and awkward with them. Especially when it came to things he did that made them unhappy, like his leaving. Thankfully the lump in his coat provided him with a good distraction and time to think about how he would handle this situation now that his son had taken him by surprise.

It was clear that Chastity had been deep in sleep and he couldn't help but think of her curled up in his coat pocket as, what was that word? Cute? Yes, it was cute. "I guess you did," he answered with some humor in his voice, but the thought that she had snuck out of the den without any of them knowing was a little frightening. He was proud that she had been so stealthy, such a skill would be very beneficial to her in the future, but he did not think he wanted her to be so stealthy with them. Thankfully she had not gone far from the den and had been hidden in his coat, but what if she had gone farther? What if that bastard had found her? Inwardly the father grimaced at the thought. "I am proud of you but you should not leave the den without our knowledge." The "our" referred to both himself and their mother. "Are we where?" She thought they had gone somewhere? His gaze turned to Honor who was doing his best to catch a glimpse of his twin. Onus lowered himself to the ground and set the part of his coat containing Chastity in his lap and allowed Honor to crawl up into it as well if he wished.
