Inferni’s borders stretched much farther than they had when Silas had once been among their ranks. It was peculiar that there was familiarity in the area, but also a strange unknown. The dirt beneath his feet was the same, but so much time had passed since he had last been there that he felt as if it no longer recalled the tread of his paws upon it. The thick scent of the coyote clan pushed the Russian much closer to the mountain range than he had recalled, and even still he had to wander deep into Drifter bay before their smell eventually began to taper away.

The desire to advance to the clan’s doorstep was almost overpowering, and yet Silas still could not quite bring himself to do it. He had come across a member of the clan just a few days ago and had been updated on some of the (rather significant) changes that had taken place, but he still didn’t know enough about the princess there. Silas needed to go to her himself, but he was too afraid that she wouldn’t speak to him after what he had done. He had, after all, sworn to protect her.

While the sun continued its advance west so did the Russian. As he neared the river a new scent became apparent to him and it was clear that another group had settled here. Silas had no intentions of pressing further, not wanting to ‘cause any trouble. After all, he had enough on his mind as it was. Instead, he settled along the bank of the river, finding a place where the water didn’t flow as strong and the ground sloped gently to greet it. Although the water was cold this time of year, that didn’t stop the man from resting his feet in the current. It wasn’t the same as the ocean, but somehow the feel of the cool liquid against his fur was comforting to him.

Absentmindedly he reached for his cigarette case and occupied his fingers with lighting a smoke. His mind, as it had been since his arrival, was reminiscing about the past and anxiously trying to predict the future. The most pressing question it seemed was: what time was the right time to reunite with the princess of Inferni?
