The warm sun kissed her face, though there was no sun to be seen. The clouds had hung a veil over the sky, rain’s scent lingering in the air. Yet Mati did not feel the dreary misfortunes of a spring rain shower. The warmth was on her cheeks, the wind that came was kissed with the same heated raze of sun that could not been seen, and the ground she walk on was littered with the life of spring’s birth not puddles of storms from days past. Morning had hardly crested, the songs of awakening birds filling the surrounding wood and beckoning her further and nothing else was needed to fill her mind.

How one soul could change the life of another was something that Mati had never thought possible. So many had passed through her own, altering her path and changing pieces of her. But it had never been so complete and so abrupt. Every inch of her body was different. Corvus had altered her arms, smothered her courage. But that had only been temporary. Her arms were healed, scarred but healed. Her courage was rebuilt. The others, had given and taken what they wished. Cambria had altered her completely, and Mati felt she would never return to the way it was before she had become aware of what lived between them. Never did she want to.

It wasn’t a secret, for Mati had already let the truth out to Strel. But they still had wished to meet alone, and her heart fluttered with the anticipation. A nervousness resided in her, simply because she would never be without it. Still her excitement overshadowed any anxiety, and Mati had traveled to the meeting place quickly and eagerly. She wondered if they would kiss again, wondered if it would feel the same way as it had before. Mati did not doubt for a moment its intensity, and only let her thoughts grow with a curiosity that her skin tingle.

The tall wolfess walked through the broken doors of the barn, the hinges long rusted and lost to the weather. The same with the roof, patches eaten away and leaving gaps in the steel. She stood inside, under the dim light that the rainy day gave that filtered through the open patch of roof. Mati stood in the doorway, watching the female standing in the halo of soft light. The Church woman stepped forward, fingered raking themselves through the crows of long waves she wore. Why here? Mati could not answer it, the spot chosen for solitude perhaps. But it no longer mattered why Mati had said that this should be where they met next. She smiled, closing the gap with a few quick steps.

She extended her hand, searching for that of Cambria’s. Her nose tickled at the sweet scent of the girl, her heart beating high in her chest once more, the rush of warm gathering in her cheeks just as if had before. “Hi.” Was all she could muster, her breath lost once more but she smile ever present.

Cambria had woken early that day, her whole body thrumming with the anticipation of her next meeting with Mati that would take place this day. The girl could barely contain her excitement and she hoped that the time would pass quickly because if she had to wait too long to see the Church female she thought she might burst. She had done her morning tasks of feeding and getting fresh water for Enzo and then checking her healing supplies. All was stocked and in place and so she took a seat on her bed, fingers drumming on the top of her knees. Her tail swished impatiently and after a few moments of sitting there she decided she couldn't wait a moment longer to head to the barn. It was true. she'd probably have to wait just as long at the barn, but at least she'd be there when Mati came. Maybe Mati would feel the urge to come early too! With that thought in mind she set out from the manor, a dazzlingly smile on her face, eye glittering with the promise of their secret rendezvous.

She hadn't thought much on the reason why Mati had wanted to meet in the barn. Perhaps if her insecurities still were overbearing then she might have worried that the other female was embarrassed of her or something of the sort, but Cambi didn't think of it that way at all. It was kind of exciting, meeting privately like this. Having their own space and time all to themselves. The Marino didn't even notice the gloominess of the day and the threat of rain as she walked to the old red building. As far as her eyes could see, the world was bright and shining. It was a wonderful change after all the brooding she had done before the misunderstanding between she and the Church woman had been cleared up. Then, she had been acutely aware whenever the sky was heavy and gray, but now all she saw was the light of the sun even when it was hidden.

Her slender form slipped quietly into the barn and walked in, the sweet smell of hay permeating the air. She remembered well the last time she had been in this place. She had still been a pup, escaping and hiding from a sudden summer storm. The world had seemed so scary in that moment, but the barn, along with the female Flayra, had belayed her fears and made her feel secure again. Standing in Old Red again made that memory seem both fresh and ancient. So much had changed for her since that time. She was now a journeyman healer, learning from the chief of the neighboring pack. She was climbing the adult ranks of Crimson Dreams, she had had her first sexual experience, and now her first experience of a budding love. The butterflies in her stomach fluttered stronger as she thought of Mati, her heart beating somewhat erratically.

At that moment she heard someone enter the barn behind her and she quickly but gracefully turned and she caught sight of those brilliant violet eyes. Her stomach swooped and heart soared. Cambria's smile grew, her tail wagging happily behind her. Mati came, closing the distance, and extended her hand. The girl quickly extended her own, gently squeezing the larger hand. "Hi," she responded, her demeanor turning shy for a moment. That moment soon passed though as she leaned up and gave Mati a quick peck on the lips. Then she tugged at her hand, urging her to come further into the barn. "Come on!" she exclaimed playfully.

lovelyerin is lovely!

There was something that couldn't be put to words, something so new that was happening in Mati that she could try to describe it and yet failed each time she took up the task. Strel had pushed her to try to find a way to say it, and though Mati had made her best attempt what had come forth still was not right. It was unlike her to just drop that sort of challenge, as she was always one to create and interpret, but she found that she didn't mind not knowing. Just let it happen, she would say to herself, the advice of others held steady in her mind. The sweet tone of her voice spoke, answering Mati's small greeting with one of her. The excitement could be felt, anticipation that strung from one beating chest to the other. And as she felt the smaller hand of Cambria against her palm, the electricity of duel accelerated heart rates sending a tingle through each centimeter of skin and washing her mind clean of any thoughts. Then, if she had blinked she may have missed seeing the sorter fey lean forward to touch her lips against Mati's. The jolt was not missed, written the smile that spread across her maw. Though there was no time for Mati to revel in the feeling, for the other woman pulled her arm in her gentle way and called to her with an energized voice.

Mati looked with bright eyes, following to keep the distance between them smaller then one might think normal. They walked into the depths of the old barn, and though there were many things that the female found interesting as each moment passed she glanced down to the other Dreamer's face. A rusted wheelbarrow sat to the left of them, the old horse stalls to the right. Mati squeezed her hand lightly, reminding Cambi that she was still there though it was unlikely needed. Purple eyes danced over her features, the shadows dark on her chocolate face and shining a far different light then Mati was used to. She looked sharper, yet sensual and placed a dramatic and mysterious tone to her in the eyes of the artist. It made her instinctively step in closer, her lips still tingling sightly, their arms touching. "How old do you think this place is?" She asked, as the silence around them became deafening. "Have you ever explored it?" The Church woman gave another question, gaze clearly on her face and no longer very intrigued with the building around them. The wind blew, the walls and rafters complaining under its pressure and still Mati heard none of it.

She was so glad to be near Mati again, her heart thumping its happiness. The organ undoubtedly beat with more vigor whenever the Church wolfess was around. It had been too long since their last encounter, even if the sweetness of the meeting continued to linger on her tongue. She hoped the time between now and their next time wouldn't be so long. The girl wanted to spend some time every day with Mati. She knew that probably wasn't possible, at least not right now, but that didn't stop her from wanting it. She hadn't even seen her finished portrait yet, though admittedly thoughts of the painting had been far from her mind. Whenever she thought of Mati she didn't think of the painting, because nothing else could hold her attention when the other's image was before her mind's eye. It was the same in this moment, just as the last. All she could really focus on was Mati, and she was perfectly okay with that.

Cambi lead them into the barn, the smell of the hay comforting and overpowering any mustiness that might have been there. She was glad that Mati kept the distance between them minimal, her nerves tingling in excitement. There wasn't really a plan for what they could do, she had just wanted to go deeper into the building, to seclude themselves even more. Having special time with just the two of them seemed important. She didn't think that anyone in Crimson Dreams would judge them, but it was still nice regardless to be away from prying eyes. Couples like their privacy every once in a while, right? She knew her parents did. Realizing she had just thought of she and Mati as a couple made her pause. Were they? It wasn't like they had talked about it, but she hoped that was the direction they were going in. Cambria wanted them to be, there wasn't a doubt about that.

She felt the gentle squeeze and turned back to look up at the other female, smiling brightly. Mati came closer and she leaned against her slightly, their arms pressed together. "I'm not sure, pretty old I guess. I haven't really. I came in here once when I was little, to get away from a storm, but that's it." Cambria, also, was not exactly interested in the structure they stood in either. Vaguely her ears picked up the groaning of the building, but she thought nothing of it. The manor made noises all the time, it didn't mean anything. Two large piles of sweet-smelling hay lay before them and Cambi let go of Mati's hand, doing a belly flop in the middle of them. The straws poked and tickled her and she looked back over her shoulder at her friend, giggling lightly.

Just then a gust pounded against the barn and the wood moaned louder than before and then a loud crack resounded through the air. The Marino's brows knit together in confusion and she was about to look up when she heard a thump and then something hit her side. The girl yelped at the sudden impact as she was forcefully rolled over onto her back, her skin on fire where it had been scraped. For a moment she was blinded by the shock and pain of it, only aware of a great pressure on her torso that made it hard to breathe. When her vision cleared all she saw was a large beam of wood on top of her. She squirmed, trying to get free, but she was pinned down with her ribs protesting against the weight. True fear seeped into her then, and her eyes grew wide. "M-Mati?!" she called out, still unknowing as to what had and was happening.

The barn meant little, the thing inside and the poor rusted construction. Yes, perhaps it was interesting to look at for another, but Mati only filled the air around them with meaningless questions. The real conversation happened in silence, the way their eyes met, the brush of her fur against the silk of Cambria’s. It was something that needn’t be said, and still Mati could hear and feel it between them. Purple eyes watched as the other female moved away, the Church fey instantly wanting to be close again. Yet she stood back, watching the other female spring onto the bales of gathered hay. A light laugh came from her, amused by her friend’s antics.

Mati stepped forward, but her approach was interrupted by the howling wind that hit the barn. Her eyes went skyward, watching as the beam above them cracked and splintered. Instinctively her arm rose, covering her eyes as the large falling piece of wood came crashing down. The rusted metal roof could not be held, and as she heard the call of Cambi fill her ears Mati saw the smaller wolfess beneath the beam. Mati screamed her name, calling for her with desperation. But the sound was overcome by the falling of the rusted roof.

With no support and weakened by ages of weathering the sheet of steel simply fell, cascading through the air and landing on the barns dirt floor. It came with a crash, the sound and the sudden movement sending Mati backwards and to the ground. Her ears hummed with the resonating bang, her eyes blinking against the uplifted dirt. She coughed against the dust and when it began to settle she searched her Cambi. Still against the ground the only thing that she could see was the fallen roof, the sheet of metal leaning against the other remnants of the dilapidated roof and walls. "Cambi!” she screamed with panic in her tone. They were separated by the steel, the younger female no doubt still trapped by the beam. Mati rose, her hand touching the long piece of metal lightly incase it would fall again at a whim, but found it planted there solidly.

The Major tried to move it, the sharp edges cutting into the palms of her hands. She tired until the pain was too much, her voice calling to the other woman every minute of so. "I’m going to get help.” She promised, the tears of panic and fear welling in the corners of her eyes. With a moment of hesitation, for she was uneasy about leaving her, Mati ran to the doors of the barn, the tears freed from her eyes as she lifted her nose to the gray sky. A long howl came forth, broken and ragged by the urgency and panic that she felt. She called again, twice as loud and just as long in the hoped that her pack mates would come to their aid.

I CAN HAZ RESCUE? (no... I can haz fail though!) XP I'll have her pancake-ified next post. :3
Wc: 812+~

The huntress had risen early as well, earlier than her niece, like a shadow in the night. Ebony still painted the sky as she rose, turquoise eyes flashing as the sun extended the first tendrils into the sky. With the day brought clouds, as the fae was soon to discover, that were unkind to the morning hunt. Scowling, the hunt had begun as soon as the dark charcoal turned into a muted slate, giving her enough light to work with.

Winds drew long fingers through her fur, ruffling the dust-coloured hairs in all directions. Racing with what seemed like the Gods at her heels, Ghita had managed to snag two rabbits in the morning, and one squirrel that she now carried proudly in her crimson-stained maw. The chase; the hunt had quickly become a favorite sport of the fae, both a vessel for the extra energy she carried and a way for her mind to be entertained at all ends - no two hunts were alike.

So with the three prizes hanging from her jowls, the proud fae passed the skip caves just as her niece was leaving the manor, the older fae pausing to look into their depths. Humming a thought through her mind, she entered one of the smaller ones, ebony nose exploring as she went. The cave wasn't that large, a few wolf-lengths across and two wide, but it was cozy enough for the fae. Dropping her prizes behind a large rock that marked the place, Ghita swept a large tongue around her muzzle, wiping away the blood of her prey that had leaked onto her. Her Lupus frame lay beside her catches, paws elongated so they were just touching them, as the fae watched the sun rise from the cave opening.

Taking that as the signal to move again, Ghita rose to her paws, setting off towards Old Red. White toes danced at the end of darker legs, avoiding the puddles the best she could with her nose glued to the ground. Her luck had been better further away from the Barn.. perhaps she should turn around?

But then she heard the frantic howl from Mati. She only met the girl a few times, at pack meetings and the like, but she couldn't mistake this howl for anything other than an emergency. Setting her paws in motion, the woman began running as if the hellhounds were behind her now, having scared away the Gods that had blessed her hunt. As Old Red loomed into sight, visions of her last encounter with the building flew through her mind; Happier ones where she leapt off of platforms into the welcoming hay with her ivory niece, Amata.

It became clear that this was the source of the panicked howl, as fear-scents quickly registered themselves with the huntress's nose. As she charged the last few metres to the barn, her turquoised optics registered one body, but two scents - one of them belonging to her auburn niece.

The flames that burnt in her eyes weren't for Mati and Cambria, or what their encounter might have meant to each other, but for the fact that her own niece was within the obviously failing barn. Even from the outside one could tell that it was on it's last legs, crimson paint worn and peeling, the winds beating the sides of the building with harsh, unfeeling fists.

"Cambria, my niece. She's in there." More of a statement than a question, the Italian fae locked eyes with the purple-gazed fae with such intensity that could seem to sear through souls. A mother's love was always the strongest, and as a mother herself Ghita was exposed to that. And her niece whom she had known for longer, who she had taken into sanctuary when Cambria needed advice the most... Heart thudding with fear, the scent rolled off of her back, the adult taking charge in a manner more fitting of her sister. "Stay out here - stay clear of the barn. Call for others - many. I'll need help." The aunt didn't know how far Cambria was inside the building, or how badly hurt she was, but the more help she could glean, the better.

Charging in without another second to waste, Cambria's scent became more obvious to her, the emotion of fear clinging to it. Ghita's eyes began to sting with the dust that was raised, the frantic aunt pacing further into the structure. "Cambria?! Where are you?!" With hysteria came a heavy layer of an Italian accent, her ears pointing low to the ground. Would her niece even be able to reply to her? Running beneath one of the many platforms, Ghita's strength had never been tracking, but adrenalin seemed to be providing an extra hand tonight as she ran further into the building, following her niece's scent until her lungs stopped taking in air.

-is late to the rescue partay- 518

How quickly the tranquility of a quiet day could be shattered. One moment, Ehno was setting aside some space at his worktable, and the next two frantic calls seized his attention, immediately setting him on edge, his muscles tense. Muffled as Mati’s calls were through the walls of the mansion, he could not miss the sheer terror and urgency carried in those cries. Before he could even give it a thought, he bolted from his workshop, nearly knocking over a pile of boards sitting near the door. He bounded through the halls of the manor and burst through the front doors and into the grey-skied day, worry-induced adrenaline fueling his every move.

It was crystal clear what the emergency was as soon as Old Red came into sight. The old building’s roof had collapsed, and the dust conjured up by the falling beams and rushing winds only made it appear more hollow and ominous. The wind still whistled through the air, pushing against the collapsing barn and causing it to creak in distress. The whole building seemed unsteady, as if a few vital pieces of its structure had been taken down during the brief cave in, making it all the more dangerous.

His hurried pace brought him swiftly to the barn, arriving in time to see Mati safe outside and Ghita hurrying into the unsteady building. Warning bells immediately went of in his mind as he came to realize that the Church girl’s call for help wasn’t for herself, but for another. Ehno tried to slow his frantic thoughts long enough to take in the scene, and when he finally recognized the scent of his niece so strong around the collapsing barn, his heart nearly froze in fear. He could hear his sibling calling out to Cambria from within the barn, a confirmation of the fear he’d just realized. His gaze turned to the earthen hued Mati for a moment before he nodded abruptly and tried to steel his nerves. “We’ll get her out of there.” A reassurance for her, as much as for himself.

He hesitated no longer, hurrying through the unsteady barn’s wide doors after his sister. "Ghita, be careful!" he called after her, though it was already becoming hard to catch sight of her through the dust and shadows within the swaying structure. Ehno had always placed himself in the position of protector for his family, ever since he was a boy. It unsettled him that another of his family should endanger themselves by entering the barn now, but he knew it was likely they would need each other’s help to get Cambria to safety. Amber eyes peered around the building as he ventured further in at a more subdued pace. He wanted to run to her aid as quickly as he could, but without knowing where she was or how damaged the interior of the barn had become, it would be dangerous for him to rush through there. “Cambria?” he called, an echo of his sister’s, voice just as strained with anxiety. The Marino pushed through steadily, hopeful thoughts and adrenaline propelling him forward.

Big Grin

She could hardly breathe, her chest was so tight the air could not pass through it. The crying howls had taken all the wind from her body but the panic that she felt was so overpowering that she was pressed to enter the barn to check to see what was happening. Mati heard nothing, no cries and no words and she immediately thought the worst. She could be dying, loosing blood and life right beyond the fallen roof. The Earth colored female ran back out the door, the tear cascading across her cheeks and her body beginning to shake. Alone Mati stood outside the falling barn, not knowing to do. It did not take more then a few moment for Ghita to arrive, but they felt like forever. The seconds ticked by, and there was action that needed to be taken but her foot-paws seemed glued to the ground, knees starting to tremble. When she saw the other female her body restarted once again and she fluttered around the other Dreamer like a startled lark. "She's inside. I can't move the roof." Mati rambled with choked heavy breaths, pointing towards the broken piece of metal that blocked the way.

At the older female's command Mati stopped from following her into the barn, her mind so very overwhelmed and panicked. She faced the broken doors, the shadow of the other female's figure drifting into the darkness of the barn. Another voice broke the silence, arriving shortly after Ghita. She turned to find the face of Ehno, "I dont know what happened." Mati confessed, wracked with guilt and worry. She couldn't die, they had to rescue her. Mati's mind raced so quickly that she could do no more then stand behind as the others wolves that raced into the dilapidated building to save Cambria. Her violet eyes watched from outside, the blood on her hands weeping from the shallow gashes that the old metal had placed on them. But she held them against her stomach, riddled and parlayed with fear and unable to help.

Not a moment after she had called out for Mati the roof came in after the beam, deafening her with its resounding crash. She wasn't sure if she screamed, for if she did she didn't hear it. Dust filled the air and seeped into her lungs, making her cough violently. Sea green eyes tried to open, but the dust bit at them and she closed them, tears beginning to stream down her face from pain and panic. Her ears faintly heard Mati call to her, to say that she was going to get help, but she sounded so far away. The building continued to moan in protest as the wind buffeted it and she knew that more of it would begin to fall soon. The blood in her heart turned to ice and her survival instinct kicked in sharper than ever. If she didn't get out, she'd get buried and crushed. Cambria struggled beneath the beam, pushing against it with her hands. No matter how she tried though she could not gain an ounce of freedom. Her head laid back, whimpering, splinters cutting into her palms and torso. Was she going to die here?

Another clouded voice came to her ears. Her aunt, she had come. Help was coming. Cambi opened her mouth to call out but only succumb to another fit of coughing. Then another familiar voice materialized out of the obstructed air, that of her uncle. Whining, once more she pushed against the beam that held her down to no avail. Then finally she found her voice to call out to her family, the words laden with desperate fear and tears. "Here! I'm over here! Please...I can't move..." Her voice crumbled into sobs. Woohoo! Pancake time!

Note to Jenny - Jazper really wants to rescue Ghita, so go save your niece! *shakes fist* For Spartaaaa!
Wc: 627~

The frantic fae had only lingered inside the barn for a few moments before her kin's scent wafted into her nostrils. Head snapping around at a rapid pace, her optics searched for the source of Ehno's scent and voice. Once found, a mixture of relief and worry quickly spun through her slender frame. Keeping a cautious, protective eye over her brother, Ghita could only spare a nod before she spilt herself into two, worrying about Ehno being there and trying to desperately find her ailing niece.

There was some relief in seeing her brother there; the more paws the merrier. Besides, he could also pick up on some clues that she had missed that might lead them to where Cambria was. Then again, it was another member of her pack, her family that she had to worry about. The barn wouldn't last much longer, and the fae could only hope that Cambria wasn't already beyond her family's help.

Something was just beyond the creaks of the failing barn; beyond her frantic shouts and the tireless footfalls. Her ears weren't deaf to it, but there was no time to investigate; for all she knew it was a waterlogged board creaking, not anything that would help her brother and niece. A few more moments rushed by, flying past the blood pounding in her eardrums before a high-pitched whine reverberated around the structure.

Every muscle in her body suddenly tensed; The Lupus drawing her right forepaw up in a standard pointing move, ears pricked as high as the parallel tents could reach. Her head was lifted up high above her shoulders, now focusing on a different sense entirely. "Ehno! Hush!" Not caring to worry about feelings or how her snap could be interpreted, instead the fae focused on the specter of the sound she possibly heard.

And then the relief came. Ice spread down from the crown of her head to her temples, flushing her cheeks with relief that was instantaneous. Shooting off like a bullet from an angel's gun, the fae charged, streamlined in her determination to reach Cambria. She was silent otherwise, indicating nothing to her niece that she was arriving, every fiber in her being straining to rescue her auburn kin.

She was passing underneath the structure, the exact same platform that she and Amata had frolicked off of all those months ago. Had she possessed the time, moments would have been spent marveling at how the two situations could differ so greatly - one with happy, naive bliss; and the other was life and death. The ebony shadow of the structure painted her pelt a deeper hue, the aunt oblivious to the creaking that was shouting above her until it was too late.

Where Ghita had been charging moments before, now lay a heap of rubble, the remnants of the barn's platform having landed on the aunt. Solid beams of wood buried her easily, the same pelt easily camouflaging with the suicidal structure. Burying the wolfess had been so sudden, it was almost as if the pile of rubble had always been there. Ghita's choked, shocked cry had been quickly swallowed by the crashing wood, drowning everything but a yip out to even indicate that the fae had been there.

Beams of crushed, rotten wood pinned her rib cage to the floor, the bones creaking and giving way under the pressure. A hind leg snapped beneath another large weight, bending the knee in the opposite way that nature decreed. But all of the fire that spread under skin was snuffed out, covered by an ebony blanket of warmth, the welcoming peace of unconsciousness. Blind to her brother's worry, deaf to her niece's pleas, Ghita lay beneath the rubble, completely apathetic to the remaining danger she was in.

Anu can help the wounded... and hug Mati xD

She was alone, lingering in the Manor's kitchen. There was nothing of the day that she even thought would memorable, just another few hours that could be melded into the next dreary day. But all of that changed. She dropped the wooden spoon, to scoop soil in the future, that she carried at the sound of the alarm. She ran into the common area of the mansion, seeing no one else and then began to the sprint towards the sound. Her pace was slower then it would have been if she had shifted down into her four-legged form. But there was no time for that thought to run through her mind long enough for her to put it into action.

Still, Anu was fast, but not fast enough to be the first to arrive. Blue eyes watch from a distance as the two others entered the broken building, the figure of her daughter lingering outside. The Dreamer picked up her pace, the smell of uprooted dust and debris filling her nose as she reached the taller girl. Her took Mait's arm, and the female shook her head, tears visible in her eyes and stains on her cheeks. She was shaking, and Anu spoke with a calm and even tone. "Come over here." She pulled the stronger female away from the barn. Yet her Earthen daughter refused, standing still and even leaning towards the broken doors of the barn. "Mati." Anu said sternly. The other would save Cambira, for Mati spoke her name in a whisper, there was nothing they could do.

Anu led her to the ground just beyond the destruction. Her eyes danced over her form, searching for the injuries that brought the scent of blood into the air. Her hands were cut, and she was likely bruised but nothing that needed to be stitched. Every few moments she looked back to the barn, where Mati stared. Waiting for those that had entered to exit with the body of the other female.

It was difficult to find a task that allowed him both to think and to do something useful with his time, something that benefited the pack more than himself. So he was out and about, four long, lean limbs carrying him through the forested areas of Crimson Dreams. His senses were all alert for signs of prey; it seemed fitting that, with spring afoot, he pay attention to what would feed them all. Especially with three new babies in the pack. Overall, Kansas was happy, and felt his happiness more purely with each breath of spring air that entered his lungs. But his happiness, so very sweet, was interrupted by a startling sound that sent chills through his entire body. The intensity of the feeling put him to an immediate halt, tail straight outward from his slim quadrupedal form. What was most disturbing was the broken sound of the call, laced with urgency and uncertainty. And its voice was unmistakably Mati's.

After a split second to experience a sickening wash of worry, he sprang into action. Kansas was not far from the barn, it turned out, for in what seemed like only a few strides the structure was before him. But it was broken and bruised, a weak figure violated by the overpowering strength of nature. There were wolves present already, a vibe of distraught pain permeating the air. He saw that he may need use of his hands in order to help, so he shifted quickly and ran as quickly as possible to the barn. Turquoise eyes were wide with fear, a large sigh quivering in his chest. The blue orbs found Mati and Anu, caught in an embrace in which the mother was ensuring that her child was unharmed. Mati. A girl with a heart of gold, the one he knew Cambria loved with all the flawless compassion of her own big heart. From the distraught look on the earth-furred young woman, he knew that something must have happened to Cambria. Of course, several other things could have occurred here. But Kansas just knew.

Softly, the boy rested one skinny, long-fingered hand upon the girl's shoulder, the other on Anu's. His voice was controlled as well as he could, broken and stuttered with the emotion and concern inside. "P-please... tell me what happened. Where is she? What can I do?" Oh, but he was itching to get into that barn and save his baby. She had been nearly thieved from him already. Kansas was not a man to take control of a situation, to go find his daughter himself. No, he required thought, he needed to know what was going on first, lest he barge in only to make things worse.

It was hard to look away, and it was harder to move. She wanted her to be okay, Mati needed her to leave this place unharmed and with the same beautiful smile that she had been wearing a moment before the beam had fallen. Mati wanted that moment again. Wanted to turn back time to say that they should leave, it wasn’t that much time only a little bit. Just to the moment before Cambi had moved away from her and out of her reach. Mati could have pulled her out of the barn before the roof had collapsed. They would have been safe, and together. Her heart beat wildly, but the fey could not hear or feel it in her chest. She was immune to the life giving rhythm.

Anu appeared, and Mati could not look to her. She wanted to go back inside, to pull the younger female from the wreckage herself and to shield her from the aftermath as she had tried the day Naniko had left Crimson Dreams, never to return. Things were so different, and much more complicated. She needed to be saved as well, from the panic and the anxiety that wracked her body and mind. Her mother touched her, and the taller wolfess did not feel it. She was reluctant, pulling away from the Lt. General but her attempt was weak and mindless.

Her name was spoken, and Mati whispered her heart’s captor before feeling hands pull her away. Following she sat on the ground in front of her mother. Her eyes did not watch as the elder female looked her over, and did not shudder or wince when the wounds on her hands were touched. It was only Kansas that broke her daze, and when she saw the father Mati could not keep the emotions back and no longer felt unmoving and paralyzed. She cried, for his presence made the possible loss true and she was so sorry for ever bringing her to the barn. We were inside, she began, picturing Cambria standing against her body, lips dancing lightly against her own. and a beam broke, and then the roof fell in. Cambi’s inside. the last to words coming with a sod.

He sat silently by the gently rocking waters of the lake. It was nice to just sit down, feel the breeze as it swished his fohawk back and forth, back and forth. Ebony hands gently twisting the long grass around his fingers and he let nature and time just be for now. There was no sound around him for the moment, just the wind in the trees, the swishing of water and the bright pleasant chirping of birds. This time of year was perfect. The sun was high in the sky but the air was just cool enough to keep him from sweating, a nice breeze on his face, it just felt brilliant for a black covered wolf. All was well, peaceful and away from the world for that brief moment until it happened. A piercing howl penetrated the silence sending birds flying and letting out their own panicked calls.

Jazper jumped to his feet and tilted his head as the voice processed. Mati. The last time the girl had been in trouble that monster had just about gotten his claws in her. Immediately his body kicked into overdrive from the protective instincts that thrived in his genes. His legs sprinted, his brain searching through a large list of possible things that could be wrong. As he approached the area of the barn he could see from a ways back that his pack mates had already begun to arrive and Mati was safe with Anu. Slowing down he stared at the rubble in disbelief until a familiar scent got caught in his nose. As he listened to Kansas stutter while he asked questions the ebony male's body began to tense up. Ghita, she was here, the scent was fresh. Turning to Anu and Kansas he almost growled in a deep rumble, “Where is she?” Before the wolfess could answer he flung himself into the broken and deteriorating building. His nose sniffed at the air in a violent fashion as he recklessly thundered across pieces of rubble.

Finally, he stopped in his tracks, his large hands patting a lengthy and heavy looking sheet of wood. “Ghita!?” He called. She was under there, he just knew it, the smell was so strong here. Without hesitation the massive beast started breaking, lifting, and throwing wood any way he could until the unconscious body of his beloved was reveled. The Knight choked back a whimper as he saw the bent leg. Gently as a giant could he lifted the girl in his strong arms and brushed away her hair from her face as he silently left the rubble behind. Worry filled his lightning colored eyes as he looked up to Anu and whispered, “She got crushed.” With the words his heart started to ache, how could he let this happen to her? Why hadn't he been there to stop it, to protect her? The normally wild and free spirited wolfess lay looking rather fragile and broken in his arms. He wanted to hold her tight and shield her from the world but all he could do is stare at his mate unable to help her.

Having led a life of relative peace and quiet up until now, facing only emotionally trying situations, the male was wholly unprepared for the situation playing out before him. Instinct was there to guide him and the need to protect those dear to him fueled him, spurring him into such a quick action he could hardly gather in all the details around him. Surrounded by the dust-filled air and the sounds of creaking old barn standing on its last legs, every second seemed to propel onward with lightning speed. As each moment ticked by, it almost seemed to hover over him and weigh down upon him, making him acutely aware that time was running out. He had no idea how injured his niece would be, but the longer it took to find her, the more dangerous it would be for everyone.

It was only a moment before their niece called out to them, but it felt like an eternity to the Marino as he stumbled through the dust of the collapsing structure. His sibling shushed him and he obediently remained silent, pausing in his hurried steps for the briefest of moments, ears perked forward to determine the origin of Cambria’s cries. He spotted Ghita through the shadows and clouds of dust just as she darted off toward their niece, slipping beneath the platform to take the quickest and clearest path to the girl. The creaking boards of the building let out a mournful cry. Those lighting-fast seconds slowed almost to a standstill as the building wailed, and Ehno’s eyes widened in fear as he saw the platform his headstrong sister had run beneath began to sway dangerously, and with the missing support of the already fallen beams, it simply fell to the ground and buried Ghita without so much as a warning.

“No, no, no, no, Ghita! Ghita! Loose boards from the remaining portion of the upper platform began to slip down to the ground like some sort of short-lived and dangerous hail. Each echo of the falling planks resounded in his ears, each one somehow managing to sound like his sister’s cut-off cry as she was suddenly smothered. That startled cry seemed to replay over and over within his mind, mixing with the sounds of Cambria’s sobs and the creaking of the building to create a macabre melody that chilled him to the core. Two members of his family were in danger now, and he needed to figure out a way to get to them both. “Non sta accadendo, non sta accadendo.” The frantic whisper was almost like a mantra. Maybe if he said it enough, it really would all be just some horrible nightmare.

But it was no horrific dream, and he needed to act, now. He finally willed motion into his startled limbs, yet before he could reach the mound his sibling was buried beneath, a frantic call from behind seized his attention. When he whirled around to meet its source, he was incredibly relieved to find Jazper hurrying toward the scene. The giant went to tearing through the rubble without hesitation, and Ehno nodded, took a deep breath, and directed all of his focus back to getting Cambria out of there. He trusted that Jazz would get to Ghita in time. They could do this.

Ehno turned from the scene and hurried toward his niece’s cries, hoping desperately that she would be alright as he ran. He soon found himself face to face with the sheet of metal roofing that leaned heavily against more of the fallen debris. Cambria’s scent was strong here, and he could hear her muffled sobs on the other side of it. The uncle hurried forward and peered around the warped metal and through the debris. “Cambria!” he called, a slight touch of relief coloring his voice now that he’d found her. “Stai bene?” He could see that she’d been pinned by a fallen beam, and though he could probably reach her from here, there was no way he would be able to free her and pull her to safety as long as the metal roofing stood in his way.

Dust stuck to the inside of her nose and stuck to her cheeks where her tears had made their trails. Every so often her sobbing was interrupted by coughs, her lungs trying to expel the unwanted particles that were breathed in. But all sounds were cut short as another resounding crash echoed through the failing building. More than that though, there was a cut off cry that she knew with a sickly certainty belonged to her aunt. "G-Ghita?" the girl whispered. Oh gods, her aunt had been hurt while she was trying to get to her. Why was this happening? It took all of her willpower to keep from retching. This was too much. She didn't want to die, but she didn't want her family to get hurt while they were trying to come and get her. Her whole body began to shake violently despite the pain it caused in her pinned torso. Cambi had the urge to call them off, to tell them to leave her. She couldn't stand anyone getting hurt on her behalf, especially not her family. It'd be better if they just lost her instead of more members. Claws dug into the beam that held her down again and she thrashed around beneath it, screaming in fear, frustration, and pain. Why was this happening? Whywhywhy?

Her frantic efforts had dissolved back into crying and involuntary shaking by the time her uncle's voice reached her ears. Eyes wide with panic shot open. "Ehno!" Her exclamation was accented by a sharp whine. "Duole...Non posso muovermi...m-ma non penso che niente sia rotto." Once again the girl struggled against the beam but all it did was make the fire in her muscles burn hotter and she lay her head back against the hay, panting heavily. "Non voglio morire," she whimpered, "Ma non voglio che nessuno essere doluto altro." Cambria just wanted this all to be over, one way or another. "Lo zio, non voglio morire," she pleaded. Whatever feelings of hurt or anger still lingered in her heart towards him were gone, extinguished. None of that mattered now. She just wanted to be safe, but she didn't want him to get hurt too.

Hearing Cambria speak brought a little relief to his panicked brain. She might be stuck there, she might be so incredibly terrified right now, but she was conscious and coherent and thus, as far as he was concerned, not on death’s doorstep. Of course, the longer they lingered within the decaying building, the closer to danger they were, but Ehno was determined to get her out of there as fast as he could. Dealing with the uncertainty of where she might be, and what shape he would find her in had been the most difficult part. The seconds didn’t tick by with such a ferocious speed, but the sense of urgency still remained in part.

“Shh, non dire così. Tu non morirai qui. Io non ti lascerò morire.” The male coated his words with a warm confidence, trying to sooth her fears in whatever little way he could, though he knew there wasn’t much he could do until they made it to the safe, fresh air outside. He reached through the gathered debris to try to squeeze her hand, one last little reassurance. “Io vado a tirarti fuori di qui.” With that, he stood and began to face off against the stubbornly placed metal sheet. The Marino pushed against its side, hoping to simply knock it out of the way, but it refused to budge. Panic fluttered around the edge of his thoughts as he pushed into it with more force, but all it did was threaten to cut into his hands much as it did to the Church girl. He let out a frustrated sigh and tried instead to pull it to the side. To his delight it started to move forward, but it ground to a halt abruptly, as if something were holding it in place.

Amber eyes scanned the metal sheet frantically, and when he looked up, he spotted a wooden beam much like the one that had fallen on Cambria leaning on one corner of the metal sheet like a dead weight. He hurried to the other side, then with a growl of effort he leaned heavily against the offending beam and pushed, and in a moment he had out of the way, and it fell to the ground with a clatter that echoed through the rest of the collapsing structure. The noise made him acutely aware of the danger they were in and spurred him further into action. Ehno turned back to the sheet of roofing and pushed against it with determination, and this time it finally slid out of the way.

He hurried to his niece’s side now that he cleared the way, and examined the heavy beam that pinned her in place. One side of it was weighed down heavily by more fallen debris, but he was confident that he could move it. He had to. The uncle planted his feet firmly on the ground and lifted one end of the beam with a grunt of effort, trying to pull it away from the girl as he did. “Potete spostare?”

Despite her choking panic there was a warm feeling that enveloped her heart at knowing that her uncle was here to save her. He didn't have to risk his safety for her sake, especially not after the hurtful words she had thrown at him not too long ago. They may have been true, and she may have had every right to say them, but surely that didn't soften their blow any upon his ears. Everyone had told her that he loved her, that he hadn't meant to hurt her as he had, but that hadn't doused the fire of her resentment any. In her eyes it had been a slight beyond redemption and she had doubted that she would ever be able to move past it. As always though, actions spoke louder than words. Ehno being here, risking himself to get her back to safety, showed the girl that he did love her. That he was willing to put it all on the line for her. Perhaps, if they got out of her alive, those negative feelings could be put to rest.

Cambria took her uncle's words to heart and did her best to try and soothe the fear that ran rampant through her. His hand touched her's briefly, a reassuring pressure, and she squeezed back before he left to do what he needed to clear a true path to her. The beam mostly blocked her vision and so only she had to go on were the sounds that reached her ears through the creaking and breaking of the building all around them. The girl waited with baited breath, listening and trying to keep herself as calm as possible. The clatter of the other beam made her heart seize. Had something fallen on her uncle? But soon she heard the sound of him moving and she breathed a short sigh of relief. Then, with only a few more moments, he was by her, the debris cleared. He grabbed the beam and with much effort lifted it a few inches. Thankfully, a few inches was all that was needed. Instead of answering him she quickly squirmed out from beneath the oppressive structure.

She was free! But the exhilaration of this was quickly replaced by the screaming pain of her ribs and torso. Cambi winced, looking down to see small trickles of blood run down her fur where the wood had scraped her skin. All her struggling had left her weakened and she wasn't sure if she could rise to her feet without help. Pleadingly her eyes looked up to her uncle. The help she needed from him wasn't over yet.

Anu was barely able to look up at Jazper before he sprinted into the barn after those that had sought to rescue Cambria. The mother couldn't help by ask why the two had been inside, even if it was as simple a reason as they wandered in. It could have been anyone really, one even younger and weaker then the two females. Blue eyes looked to Kansas, and then back to the dark entrance of the broken barn.

There was motion in the shadows, voices and Anu felt her ears press against her skull. She looked to her daughter, her face was pressed into her hands, avoiding the sight of the two creatures that stepped from the rubble. The tall dark male carried his mate, his face full of sorrow. The Lt. General hurried over to the pair, looking at her face and then listening and watching to see if she was breathing. Take her straight to the Manor. Anu ordered with an even tone. There was no time to panic, not time to think beyond the solitary commend. There was nothing that they could do here, the only one that knew of extensive healing would likely need it herself. Anu prayed that it wouldn't be true.

(357) Have a fail Coli!

Colibri stood trembling on the warm grass outside the manor, her blue eyes wide with fear. Everyone had gone running towards the cries, and what had happened? Her nerves rooted her to the spot. Was it an attack? Who had been hurt? She wrung her wrists, knowing she would be of no help if she went now. She would be in the way for certain, and probably end up a casualty herself. Anu... Anu, Anu, Anu, no doubt the leader had rushed to the source of the pained howl, it had been her daughter's panicked voice, hadn't it?

The thought of injuries being sustained galvanized her, and she darted back inside the open doors of the manor, long mane streaming behind her. Maybe she could be of help here! This would be where everyone would return, right? If they needed medical attention, she could at least help with the basics! She loped up the staircase, feeling faintly out-of-breath as she reached the room she and Anu shared. Where was it, where was it -- there! The battered old teapot she had brought with her from Dahlia de Mai!

She raced back downstairs to the kitchen, intending to boil water and sterilize linens in it, to be used as bandages. Her old housemate, Deuce Rhiannon, had been an esteemed healer, and some of the basic tips had ended up rubbing off on the young girl. Without the pressure of seeing blood before her eyes, she could rationally plan for their arrival, and not let her anxiety attack her.

She started thinking of herbs, too, comfrey was essential for first aid, and willow bark could lessen the pain -- but the fae had distracted herself so completely that she did not pay attention to the water she was spilling. Her footpaw stepped in the puddle and shot out from under her, tumbling her to the hard kitchen floor in a pile of scattered bandages. Moments before her skull connected with the ground, she could remember thinking how amazingly ironic it was that she was able to get hurt even when she was completely alone. But then everything went black.
