Marika liked Cour des Miracles. It was beautiful here; perfectly cool, a constant breeze snaking through the sweet-smelling trees that surrounded her. The morning sun ignited the forest's hues, creating a glow of green and bronze and yellow. She preferred to spend time in the woods, for she loved its peaceful, silent sanctuary. And, of course, she was reminded of Russia, undeniably missed by its former resident. She could spend hours tucked away in the trees, thinking about herself and the world she lived in while the wonderful colors and aromas cushioned her subconscious by beauty. The Russo woman was an insomniac; she didn't sleep much, not even at night. But she must still rest. Having a quiet place where she could rest her mind was very important to her. She was thrilled that her new home could provide this for her, and so perfectly, too.

The hybrid girl lay with slender her neck and shoulders against the trunk of a large tree, the damp bark soft against her bones. She was absently fixing her hair, weaving her purple scarf into the thick tendrils of chocolate brown and tying a small knot to keep it in place as she had done so many times before. She thought of her grandfather, Rurik, the man she sought since her arrival to this new land. She liked to wonder what he was like, hoping that he was kind as she'd imagined, that he would be excited to meet her. She knew so little about who he was. Marika simply had yet to find him, but she could not wait for this to happen. Her soft voice hummed a melodious tune, fingers tapping silently the rich earth beside her. She fought away imminent homesickness with the consideration that she had arrived in a happy place, relished the time she had to enjoy it.
