The rumblings of a stomach not use to being empty were the only thing that kept Nayru moving forward. Although the grandmotherly wolf who led the way had kept her fed for majority of their journey, all of yesterday and the day before the child's requests had been met with only rebukes, her tone increasingly sharp with each one. "Such a greedy child. The more you feed a hunger, the more it will demand of you. Learn to live without." Nayru knew that this was not literal. One could not really live, not without food, but perhaps the older women meant something else. The child has said little during the last two days.

The energy was almost tangibly different when they entered the highly trafficked area. Not that the ground they went over was claimed, but the winds told of nearby packs and clans, and the lands in-between were perfumed with the scents of those that went between. "You'll learn the area child, Inferni to our north and Phoenix Valley to the south, but these won't be important for a while yet I guess. We're straight through. Dahlia de Mai." They kept on west, until the white lady began to drag behind, slower and slower until Nayru was practically walking alone. Pausing she turned back, her childish face filled with concern. "I can’t go there, but they'll take you in. I can promise it. Go on and stop when the scent gets too strong. It'd be rude to go in unescorted. Take care little one, you'll be fine I'd guess."

And it was so sudden that she was standing alone, without even having the chance to say good bye or thanks or express and uncertainties. It was better that the women had left so abruptly. Nayru had not felt uneasy or unhappy at the lady's presence, but she had felt unreal. It was how a dream had felt, but for the past week and a half she had been unable to wake up. Now that she was alone again reality slowly leaked through the hazy, dream barrier that kept Nayru in a fog. Once she felt her feet solidly on the ground and her mind clear she looked west and willed her weary body forward.

When the scent did become thick (Nayru had never fathomed that so many wolves could live so clustered) she happily gave into her weak, shaky legs, collapsing into the grass. The woman hadn’t told her if it would be rude to call attention to herself, and so she stayed quiet. At least initially, because subconsciously she whined softly to herself. The noise was comforting, because in the past it might have been her sisters whining rather than herself. Nayru didn't analyze her actions when she caught the puppyish whimpers escaping her, she only hushed herself and refused to think of her parents and siblings, warm and happy without her, somewhere.

Yay <33!

The shadows had started to stretch by the time Conor decided to take a short walk out by the greening borders of Dahlia. Combining duties with what he liked to do best turned out well. His pace was well suited for the ripening day, and he watched reds and oranges start to mingle and break up the pure blue that had dominated the day. Splendid green brushed against his hackles as he wandered along the well scented border of the pack that no longer was bound together by rage and conflict. Lilac eyes waited patiently for the sky to be painted in a hue similar to his. It was hard to believe that there were evil forces in the world when the beauty took your breath away.

A splash of white and black interrupted the green scenery and caused the alpha’s gaze to immediately focus on the strange intruder. His heart fluttered with surprise when he moments later recognized the form of the child, and his stride slowed down until he was no longer moving. He tilted his head ever so slightly, reminded of a wolf he once had known that had worn a similar combination of black and white. ”Hey,” his voice greeted soft as a summer’s breath. ”Are you lost?” She did not carry a pack’s distinct scent as far as he could tell. There was the touch of an adult female, but she was nowhere to be seen.

He came upon her slowly, and Nayru had plenty of time to take him in before he ever spoke a word. Large and brown was the consensus. Otherwise he was just a wolf, like any other wolf she might come across, expect he lived here. Other wolves were not like him because they didn’t live here. Which was where she was going to stay, and she knew this before he did. This was evident by his question, but she knew she had to be polite. She was a child and he an adult, so dutifully she dipped her head and advert her eyes, as the white lady had instructed her when they had first met. What a rude little creature she had been before the white lady had set her straight.

I'm not lost! Cherry eyes turned up upon the male, she couldn’t help it. Even though the grandmotherly wolf had told her not to look anyone straight in the eye, it was just her nature. They connected through eye contact, and clearly couldn't this male see she needed help? Someone told me… you might… Suddenly she hesitated, shyness halting her words before they could even form on her tongue. How to say that she was here to beg for food and shelter? It seemed stupid and silly that a capable adult had led her here, only to dump her in the hands of another. She forced words out of her mouth, but they weren't what she meant. Not exactly. I… I am lost. I'm sorry!

Not lost? Well then, that was certainly good news, now wasn’t it? Her eyes were coated in a peculiar cherry colour, and it was not until she finally lifted her gaze that he really noticed them. Her intent attempts on behaving formally had surprised him – she was merely a child and such behaviour was not what he had expected. Adult wolves frequently broke the so called “code” for good behaviour on the borders. When their eyes met the male offered her the soft smile that could usually be detected on his tranquil face. He appreciated children for what they were, and those three back home was growing up so fast.

Ears perked forward to catch the words the little girl so bravely wanted to speak, but he was not given the full sentence before her voice was cut off, suddenly shy. One of the leader’s golden audits flickered backwards then, because the few words she had managed to utter told him enough. He felt his spirit fall somewhat. A child should not be standing alone at a pack’s borders with a severed past. She should be at home with those she belonged with and focus on the task of being a child only. He wished her circumstances could have been different, but of course he would not turn her away.

His stance was patient as he waited for the girl to find the words she wanted to speak. It turned out that she was lost and the air remaining on the top of his skull folded as well. ”That’s alright,” he stated softly as he decided to let his smile remain on his gold and cream hued face. ”Where are your parents?” this could be a touchy subject. He knew nothing of why she was where she was, but it was a question he needed answered nevertheless.

How understanding he was being! Nayru couldn't quite decide if it was really alright as he said it was. After all, she should be able to say the words she meant. Of course, maybe he hadn’t known she meant something else. Not that she was lost, but that she had been sent here. It was really all the same, because he had to deal with her now and they both knew that. And she had to prove that she was pathetic and in deserve of pity. What if she couldn't? What if he decided that she was alright on her own and turned her away? Was that possible? Nayru imagined herself trudging back, trying desperately to find the white lady to take her home again. Suddenly real anxiety washed over her and she flicked her ears back in hesitation.

I don't know. It was truthful. She didn’t know where they were. One night she had been sleeping with them, the next day she had just gotten separated. Somehow… that part wasn't clear. Nayru couldn't remember if she had wandered away because she was a stupid child or if they had perhaps gone too fast for her? They’re gone on without me. The dreamy child could see them in her mind, marching amid the early spring flowers, her sisters wondering where Nayru had gone but not asking.

His comforting mask did not falter when she seemed unable to answer his question. Was it common for parents to abandon their young so easily? The yearling could not imagine doing such a thing, not even to the children that was not even his own. He had searched long and hard for Night when she had disappeared. He had searched for Damien for days even if he had barely met the child at that time. No child should be left behind like that, not for any reason. His heart ached for the child separated from her family.

”Well, then I’m sure they are looking for you right now,” the young leader kindly suggested, nodding gently to underline those words. Until then, she would simply have to stay here. ”I am Conor, I live in these lands,” he then said, finally introducing himself. ”What is your name?” then there was a last question he needed answered before acting. ”What are the names of your parents? He fully intended to visit the other packs in the area when the child had been taken care of.

They were looking for her? Nayru looked behind her shoulder, as if she could see hundreds of miles between herself and them, as if she could see them looking for her. They might very well be, Nayru didn't know for sure if they did or not, had it been an accident or not? Was she supposed to get separated or not? It was happened too quickly, her memory did not fit all the pieces in. Turning back to the adult she smiled sheepishly and nodded agreeing. Even if he was only saying that, she chose to believe the sandy man with lavender eyes. It was a nice thought and it put her at ease to think that her parent's cow patterned pup hadn't been so easily forgotten.

My name's Nayru. Her maw hung open with more information, ready to spill forth. My sisters', their names are Din and Farore. The white lady had also reprimanded her about speaking without being asked though, so even if she thought it was important information she kept it to herself. Squinting up at the spring sun and then at the shadows that cast over the newly greening grass, she thumped her tail up at Conor waiting for his next set of instructions. At his following questions she bit her lips. What were her parents names? Sweetpea and pumpkin! Or at least that's what she heard them call each other most of the time.

Nayru; an unusual and beautiful name. Warmth bloomed still in the golden yearling’s face as he watched her little puppy face. How could anyone have left such a darling? A snort shortly after exploded before he could be able to stop it. Sweetpea and Pumpkin. He did not laugh, but his smile widened with humour and he struggled for a few moments to straighten his face out again. The young leader doubted these were the sincere names of her parents, but perhaps the young soul did not know any better. ”I’ll keep an eye out for those names then,” he offered gently, looking down at the child and feeling softness overtake his heart. ”Are you hungry, Nayru? While we look for your parents you can stay with me.” he was certain there would be no objections about this from those back home. ”You don’t have to be afraid. There will even be three other children that you can play with.”

Everything the male said seemed reasonable. It did not occur to her that he might not be looking out for her best interests, so even if something he said seemed questionable she would have gone along anyway. There was no one else to go along with. Nayru just nodded at the mention of looking out for her parents, she missed them but did not dwell on it. They weren't with her, but they were somewhere and that was good enough. Plus, there was this Conor to get to know, the children he spoke of, and probably a whole bunch of others… their scents draped the lands. More importantly, she was going to be fed, and just the mention of food made her tiny stomach rumble. I am very hungry. Nayru thumped her tail once against the grassy ground, stood to her four paws and happily followed Conor without a second thought. The white lady had wanted it this way, and Nayru did not question her fate, it wasn't her place to do so.
