All Welcome. Dalhousie University. 379 wc.

It was convenient that the most southern tip of Dahlia de Mai butted up to the borders of Halifax. Nayru wasn’t even out of her own pack lands when the first buildings rose before her, towering more impressively than the ones that lined the streets of Wolfville. The sun hung high overhead and the pavement was warm beneath her two feet and Nayru was in a glorious mood as she walked along the streets, cherry eyes peeled and watching. There was no destination in mind, for Nayru had never been through the city before, so she simply traveled south. Building after building went by; some were almost crumbled to nothing, some were still standing though looking far from cared for and a few rare ones seemed perfectly preserved in their abandonment. Whatever the condition of the buildings they all stood unnaturally silent, concrete and wood, brick and glass and nothing else.

Although there were buildings she saw that surely contained items not found in Berwick or Wolfville, none really caught her attention, or not enough for her to stop and enter any of them. Nayru made mental notes of some of them, to come back to another day, because she knew that she truly had the rest of her life to explore these ruins if she so wished. She could explore the empty cars that were scattered in the streets, the looted shops and the forgotten homes, but she could do that all later. She could do that whenever. Today the piebald girl was simply pleased to stroll through the city, and that is what she did for nearly fifteen miles until she came upon the old university grounds.

The old brick buildings with their creeping ivy caused her to pause, although why here and not anywhere else she couldn’t explain. Perhaps she was only tired of wandering, or perhaps it was a feeling that there was something here for here. Whatever the reason, once in the middle of the grassy campus surrounded by the buildings from another era, Nayru floated down to the ground. Picking a particularly sunny spot the seven month old girl stretch out, her hands behind her head, and closed her eyes lazily to the world. She’d explore, a little later, after a quick rest.

hope you dont mind me joining ^^ if i misread anything, please just let me know :]

She did not like the city. Even though it’s long concrete streets and sidewalks had been cracked and broken, and its parks and yards over run by the earth’s self-restoration she did not like the lingering buildings and the shadowed alleys. It made the fey uneasy and caused her to stay far way unless necessary. But she had wanted to gather a few things, old things that the humans had left. Anu was not one of possessions, everything she owned was sparse and only for a major benefit such as warmth or shelter. But she did not wish for her sons to live in the same way if they did not choose it. So Anu ventured out of the Manor and her pack lands in search of a few articles.

Since the city was often quite frightening, she had kept to the south and skirted around the majority of the human’s wreckage. Then, when she felt the moment right she entered the concrete jungle. She had been here before, and found the place to be more peaceful then any other portion of Halifax. The buildings where not stale, their foundation more secure and older then the tall steel things that stood in the city’s center. If she had been human, this was where she would have spent her time. The green was everywhere, hiding the tones of the unearthed and crafted stone.

Softly her footpaws fell upon the grass, no longer the manicured lawn that had once been decades ago. She was in search for books, something that the boys would enjoy while they learned to read as well as other tools for their education. Slowly Anu approached one of the many buildings, her eyes looking upwards. It was first her nose that noticed the smell of Dahlia, making her pause and think of the many someones she had once know to reside there. The Dreamer came to a halt, and then found that the origin seemed to be hiding among the grasses. With every intention of not startling the fellow female Anu gave a friendly call. Hello there. she spoke, still looking for the body that coincided with the scent.

Not at all! It’s an Alli!! 476 Wc.

The female’s voice drifted down from above and off to the right of her and Nayru’s eyes slid open. A light slumber had taken her but Nayru’s internal clock told her she had only been napping for a half hour at most. This was perhaps unwise to sleep so blatantly out in the open, someone could have come upon her, and indeed that was the case. This wasn’t Dahlia de Mai and safety was not assured, yet the voice that called out to her sounded friendly and Nayru never even debated her actions. Nayru sat up, her head and upper torso effectively popping up from the long, flowing grass. The young girl’s eyes sparkled like the garnet stone on the anklet she wore, and as they met the eyes of the other she broke into an easy grin.

Hello. The voice was soft and pleasant, like a loud whisper, and Nayru bowed her head low in greeting. Never before had she met someone off of Dahlia de Mai lands, and just how one should interact outside of one’s pack eluded Nayru. The cow colored girl imagined it was much the same as meeting non-pack members at the borders and that such situations were handled with tact and respect, but perhaps here they met more as equals than if one had the home field advantage. Always the youth believe her elders to be wiser than her, though the fact that she taught them as well did not escape her. Still, she could tell this woman was older, and so she reacted to her as she would to Conor or Bris, and any of the others she had come to view as teachers and superiors.

Slowly and effortlessly she stood, brushing off the clinging grass with one hand. Still only half grown Nayru stood short, but it was evident in her slender figure she always would. Short, small and sleek, Nayru had only one completely inherent ability: stealth. All her other skills were all learned and well practiced, but her natural grace was there in every subtle body movement. I’m Nayru, of Dahlia de Mai. The words rolled from her tongue and Nayru liked the way the greeting sounded, having never had an excuse before to tack on her pack name. She hoped the woman would do the same, for she did not recognize the scent that clung to the other and this was an easy way to learn. Of course, if the answer did not come forth right Nayru intended to find it, as she did with all questions that floated about in her brain. Answers would always come. This was something Nayru knew and understood now, and it meant she never had to rush, never had to be direct if she chose not to, and never had to walk away without learning what she wished to.

Anu turned in a circle. She looked down in the grass, blue gaze searching for the female that held the Dahlian scent. Her mind began to wander as she wondered who it could do. Anu had once been close to a Dahlia-fey, and the smell of the pack brought her face to the Dreamer’s mind and she hoped to banish it with the reveal of the young woman’s features. It was not long of course, the girl breaking through the sea of grass and facing Anu with a smile. She was painted, like a horse in a picture she had once seen, or a cat she had once chased. The black curved across her face, the stranger's eyes a ruby hue that threatened to take her breath away. she was certainly intriguing.

The Dreamer watched as the adolescent stood, her form rising from the green to stand and face her. She was only slightly taller then the Dahlian, her own lithe stature never truly pressing to out weigh any that she met. The patched creature spoke her name, and she did the same in return. Anu, of Crimson Dreams. her voice was fluid and calm, the title of short words experienced on her tongue. It had been a long time since Anu had been anything else. She hoped she would never be anything else, and wondered if she would get her wish.

It’s a pleasant day. The older woman spoke, her eyes wandering for a brief second, quickly they returned to the black and white wolfess. I was hoping to find some books, what brings you to the city? She questioned pleasantly. For Anu it was a place to find things, for scavenging, not exactly a spot to linger. But even in her older years she could certainlylearn a thing or two.

529.

Anu of Crimson Dreams. Nayru smiled at the warm introduction and the answer to her question. So that was the scent of Crimson Dreams. Inferni, Aniwaya and Crimson Dreams were now known to her, if only through other canines she had met. The other packs still were shrouded in secrecy as far as the young girl was concerned but bit by bit she was mapping out the lands she lived in now, expanding her knowledge past Dahlia de Mai. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance Anu. Her words were sincere and strong, it was almost always a pleasure to meet a new face, and Anu seemed especially nice.

A pleasant day indeed, I’m afraid the nice weather has lulled me into sleep. Nayru smiled sheepishly then, admitting that the woman had stumbled upon her snoozing. Well, what had already happened couldn’t be undone, but Nayru wouldn’t do so in the future. No, it was indeed unwise to nap outside of the pack if one could so easily come upon her. The young girl was a master at stalking and sneaking herself, but that helped her little when she was unconscious. Had she been awake to catch her unaware would be a rarity, but Anu had done it so easily. Nayru couldn’t let that happen again, even if everyone whose path she crossed was as kind and calm as the woman before her seemed to be.

Looking about at the brown buildings that rose up, dotted here and there amongst the tall grass and cracked sidewalks and parking spaces, Nayru shrugged. I just wished to see what was south of Dahlia, it’s a nice area here. Halifax, she thought, had been pretty too, in a strange way. It was interesting to see the human’s work fall into ruins and succumb to nature, bit by bit, but she saw that in Wolfville and Berwick too. Slow decay, it captivated her, but it could only hold one’s interest for so long. Yet Wolfville did not have anything like this, she wasn’t even sure what she had stumbled upon, but Anu seemed to have come here with purpose and Nayru suddenly wondered where she was exactly. Can you find books here?

Books. Bris was slowly teaching her to read and it was coming more easily now. If Nayru struggle she could stumble through more simple texts by herself, which was exciting as just weeks before the letters had made no sense to the girl in the slightest. I would like to see some books, if there are any. Dahlia de Mai had books in Wolfville for everyone’s use, Bris had books and so many others did as well but Nayru had none for herself. Although she could frequent the library at home, it was incomplete and never would she feel as if she was welcome to remove the literature and relocate it to her own home. If only she had one or two, if she could find the right ones, if Anu would share with her. The girl looked on hesitantly, hoping she wasn’t stepping upon the older woman’s toes or intruding on plans that weren’t meant for her.

pp! let me know if it should be changed ^^;

Anu would have no problem if this young fey was curious about the Dreaming pack. She had been around long enough to visit all the claimed lands, and know where she was welcomed or not. It was interesting to think about how her personal relationship with the surrounding packs had developed and changed. At times there were places where she had felt welcomed and at home, but over night it had changed completely and she no longer allowed herself to even skirt around the borders. Inferni was the opposite, once she had feared them but lately she had embraced it and found it a strangely comforting place. But as always she hoped to be a pleasant ambassador to other pack wolves and gave a smile to Nayru’s polite words.

The Sun was a god that Anu looked to for security, her religion not based on anything but faith and stories that had been told to her. It was just like those that looked to the moon for guidance, he was a stable figure never ending and always present at each day’s beginning leaving only after assuring that she would return. Stability. What beast couldn’t have faith in that single principle? The summer Sun has that way about him. Anu commented with a light tone, assuring her that her actions brought no harm to either of them.

Exploring, it was a dream that most of them shared and Anu found it fairly common for someone of Nayru’s age to embrace it. It was only natural for adolescents to want to see what was beyond their homelands. Anu herself could hardly go a week or so before touching neutral ground and satisfying her curious itch. Her question was answered with a small nod, eyes looking to the ivy and stone I believe it was once a school, or so I have been told. A school meant books, from what Anu knew of human culture. She wished for her sons to learn and figured that the best place to start her search would be a school. I think we’ll have to go inside then. Anu commented with a small grin. Do you read often? The question given only after they begun walking towards the building.

’Tis no problem! Bah, not a great post from me. 459.

A school? Nayru’s eyes narrowed at the building. She knew and understood the word, but the concept still seemed silly to her. Humans had taught their young by gathering them all in one big building and talking at them. How was anyone to learn anything that way? One learned by doing, by experiencing, by making mistakes and then fixing them. Bris taught her to read, Saluce taught her to fight and use weapons, and often she just taught herself, but in all those cases she was actively learning. Never did she just sit and listen, Nayru did, or attempted to do, whatever it was she was learning. To learn in large groups meant that even if they practice their skills, the teacher would have to split time between many students. No, one on one was best, and Nayru was blessed to have so many willing teachers within her life. Still, Anu was right, a school meant books and at this Nayru grinned and readily followed the Dreamer.

I’m just learning to read. Nayru admitted this freely, finding no shame in any lack of ability she had. Certain souls might be born with more potential than others, but if one did not work hard to build and refine those skills it all meant nothing, and Nayru knew this. My friend, Bris, is teaching me. And if she learned that then a wealth of knowledge was at her finger tips. So much information could be found in books, and reading unlocked it, although she would still have to train herself to effectively use such knowledge. Reading how to perform a surgery was the same as someone telling her how to, she would have to actually perform it to understand how and why body parts worked and how to fix them. Although, Nayru had no plans on perform surgery, that was better left to those who had experience in such tasks.

As the came up to the building she turned toward Anu, the kind woman seemed to not to mind speaking with her and Nayru felt at ease to ask any questions that popped into her head, which was always a lot. How did you learn to read? It had never occurred to her to ask Bris, or Saluce, or anyone how they had come about the skill, she simply imagined others had taught them, as Bris taught her, but then who was the first one to learn? Was it a skill some taught to themselves, slowly decipher the strange symbols into an understandable language? And why do you read? The latter question was tack on as Nayru opened the door, the stale air rushing at them, crimson eyes trying to adjust to the reduced light and still focus on Anu’s face.

fail wait, my apologies!

What Anu understood of this place was vague and all knowledge that had come second hand. She had explored here before, and her eyes had taken what they could form the things that were left scattered across the floors, but it was still quiet unclear. She would not teach her young as she thought the humans had. No, she would take them into the field and give them lessons with a hands on approach. But this was something that she wanted them to know, to better themselves further they she could do for herself. Just as Nayru was. She wondered if it was Conor, the only one that Anu could guess with confidence still resided there, but soon learned that it was not. She did not know this Bris, but figured she was generous, as all teachers were.

The large building rose before them, the door like many of those around this city and busted off it’s hinges. The question came, and the Dreamer paused in her thoughts, silent long enough for the second to come. I do not read, I have never learned. She confessed, looking at the cherry red eyes and keeping her own features light. I have asked a teacher from my pack to teach my sons. She smiled, thinking of Kansas and how he was probably like this Bris, hoping to impart knowledge on those around him.

She paused only a moment, then entered through the doorway and allowed her eyes to adjust to the dim light. It did not occur to the older female that the books she might gather were not the proper ones for a pup to learn to ready with, but maybe they would use them anyways. The wolfess sniffed at the air, dust and mold making her nose twitch. Just as she stifled a sneeze Anu gave a optimistic, I suppose they would keep them around here somewhere.

329.

The answer Anu gave Nayru surprised her. The girl had taken it for granted that most adults knew how to read, and it was only she, coming up quickly into their ranks, that lacked that skill. Smiling then, Nayru was quite pleased with the Crimson Dreams woman. To better her children rather than herself was quite a noble goal, and a practical one. Creating creatures, intelligent and healthy, was key to ensuring a pack’s or family’s continued existence and success. Whether the Dreamer did it out of love for her boys or to build a brighter future Nayru wasn’t sure, but certainly Anu had the right idea. That’s very wonderful, how old are your boys?

Nayru let the older woman take lead but as her words had prophesied it was not long before they came upon a store of books. Shelves lined the walls of the room, and the smell of dust thick in the air. There were books littered on the ground, on tables and chairs, as if others had come through hunting for books and had not bothered to clean up after themselves. Certainly there lacked a librarian for many years and the neglect showed. Yet there were books, and that’s all Nayru had hoped for. She went to a stack, scanning the titles and only making out some words. Easy words. “The” “And” and one long word she was proud of “Yellowstone” but many of the titles eluded her.

You know, you could learn to read, if you wanted. It’s not so hard. Bris was patient and Nayru practiced by herself often, sounding out words, trying to figure out meanings of words she didn’t know. It was slow progress perhaps, but not taxing, at least not physically. Grabbing a thick blue book the girl opened it, her eyes focusing on the words, picking apart the sentences, trying to make sense and once realizing it was not a book she desired she set it down once more.

The unmated female knew that if she brought her pups into the world that she would not be able to guarantee them complete happiness and success. She understood that it was easier when there was an active father or mate in the picture. But this was her life and she felt it good enough and knew there was enough love in her heart to sustain the lives she helped to create. For the rest she would look to her pack for help, and they were generous creatures that sure happy to assist her in the areas in which she lacked expertise. Just about two months. She answered, giving Nayru a smile and explaining further, A little early for books, but I thought I would be prepared. She had been excited about every stepping stone in their young lives, and this was no exception.

The two made their way into the expansive room of literature. She would look for books with picture, large text if she could find them and for Alder something with animals on it. The pup was always trailing something that was not of canine nature. Squirrels and rabbits were elusive and far too fast for him, keeping from the canines scent. But birds were what he saw most often and scampered after them in the hopes of learning their names and their favorite colors when ever he got the chance.

The girl’s voice made Anu look up. With a nod she responded, Perhaps. She picked up the nearest book, it looked like there were stars on the front, the moon placed among the dots of white. I didn’t grow up in a place where there were books, I didn’t even know anyone who could read until I came here. Anu felt it was too late for her, an old dog unable to learn this new trick. But maybe I’ll take lessons too. She said with a new smile and a small shrug. Are you looking for anything in particular? What do you like to read?

They were young, the children and already Anu was planning such skills as reading and writing for them. Nayru considered this and wondered what her life would be like had she stayed with her parents. Would they have felt it right to steer her towards certain skills or would they have left her to make her own choices, as she did now? The girl couldn’t decide, her memories of her parents were fuzzy and out of focus, their personalities were only reminiscent of loving and warm. Had they been protective? Intellectual? Spiritual? Nayru didn’t know, but she did not wonder these things with sadness at not knowing them, only a curiosity that slowly died off as she picked up the next book, thumbing through the pages, her eyes scanning the pages and replacing her thoughts with words she recognized.

Nayru noted the smile and shrug and felt the hesitance, as if the skill was out of reach of the older woman. Nayru only smiled back and turned back to her books, her ears perking when a question was directed her way. What was she looking for? There had been nothing in particular when she had first entered, but now ideas swarmed her. Most any knowledge could be found in books, and what did she want to learn? What would be useful to her? Oh, I’d like one on plants I think. You know humans used plants for many different purposes and I think I’d like to learn how to use them myself. Maybe not just for medicine, but food or to make things out of. Or even just to know the names of the flowers I see.

Nayru turned back to the books, her heart beating a bit quicker. Did she want to be an herbalist? Not particularly, but a little knowledge wouldn’t be bad to know. Still she was unsure of how she would or could contribute to Dahlia de Mai. Although she was an excellent stalker, she did poorly at hunting, unwilling to kill if others could and would do it for her. Saluce, he had begun to teach her how to handle a dagger, and that was useful, but the idea of her becoming a warrior like himself or Cwmfen seemed daunting. There were too many options and too many ideas, they floated before Nayru daily but she had failed to grasp one and hang on. Anu, what do you do in Crimson Dreams?

Just a Nayru might have thought that it was never too late for one to learn a new skill Anu believed that it was never too early to prepare. This year she would begin to prepare for winter soon, gathering all she thought they would need before the first snowflake fell. And just as she would gather food and warm blankets and firewood she would make sure that the boys would have all they needed for their new lives, and everything that would help them on their path. She didn’t wish to press this upon them, but thought them open and willing to try new things, bright and interested and so there was no doubt in her mind that they would be willing to explore this intellectual skill.

The young girl answered with thoughtful words, trying to find one specific thing that she hoped to narrow her search down to. Anu imagined that it would be difficult to do, the more she roamed the shelves of books the more she pulled out and set aside to carry back home with her. That would certainly help your pack. Plants had more uses then we can ever imagine. Anu spoke, knowing all too well how important knowledge of healing could be, and how plants could improve their live. She believed in that fact fully.

I am the second in Command, she explained with a soft smile. That in itself was enough to fill her time, and yet she still had a secondary job though everything was secondary to her life as a mother. and I am the pack's horticulturist. She said as she watched the other fey, knowing that she had an interest in flowers. I tend a garden and an orchard. I am not one to seek out plants for medicinal purposes, but know many that could help in a general sense. The Dreamer looked down at the book in her hands, it was hard covered and thin, the print large and the pictures plentiful. Different animals stood on the cover. Anu placed the book down in the growing pile.

Short! 331.

Nayru nodded absent mindedly. Yes, knowledge of plants would help her pack, she was sure, but there were already so many who seemed to know plants better than she. Would Dahlia benefit from yet another wolf striving to fill the co-rank of apothecary? Or to cultivate plants for food? Or even to make things out of plants, although she couldn’t think of anyone off hand who did this. Nayru felt that with so many others who already were so many steps ahead it was best to look in another direction and her interest in plants was purely personal. The young female did wish to discover some niche that would profit Dahlia de Mai, but what that was she wasn’t sure. They had warriors, herbalist, crafters… and of course those who did not know what to do hunted or patrolled borders, neither of which interested Nayru greatly either. All in good time. The voice in her head seemed to come from nowhere and Nayru flicked an ear to rid herself of it.

You must stay very busy. Leader, mother, and a horticulturist? It was a full plate and Nayru envied the kind woman. Nayru still had no abilities or responsibilities that Dahlia de Mai demanded of her, and it was this that at times made her feel lost in her home. What do you do with your plants if not use them for medicine? Perhaps there was something with plants that she just hadn’t thought of yet. Another book she picked up, leafing through the pages and a smile spread across her face. There were small diagrams of plants and leaves and trees, though the text was small and hard for the girl to read. Over and over she read the title of the book, sounding out the letters slowly in her head before she hesitantly tried it out loud. En-cy-clo-pe-dia of Fl-ora. She held up her prize to Anu and grinned, content with the one and only book she had found.

thats not that short silly!

It took months if not years for one to find what fit them perfectly. It was hardly ever the first thing she had tried that Anu liked the most or was the best at. She had always had a deep love for plants and flowers, but it was not till her later years where Anu had found that she could focus on them. She knew that her co-rank was not the most important for the pack’s benefit, but she had claimed it only after the group’s status had stabilized. Since they were strong and stable the Lt. General had felt it possible for her to focus some of her time on her passion.

She only nodded when the Dahlian gave her comment. Her time was precious and moments for herself and her plants had dwindled since the birth of her litter. But it was worth the dedication. Her question made Anu pause to think. There were a lot of plants that were used for many different things, both medical and not. Most of them are just decorative. She admitted with a small smile. But some can be eaten, such as many different trees. But something like lavender can help you sleep and they all will attract bees with will provide honey. She watched the black and white face.

She looked at the books cover, and though she didn’t know what the words said her blue eyes saw the picture of plants on the front and smiled along with Nayru There you go. Anu exclaimed brightly. With that and a little guidance she would certainly learn a lot quickly, even if this wasn’t her true calling it was still enjoyable to learn something new. Do you have a favorite plant? Anu asked, glad that they had this in common.

Just decorative? Nayru hadn’t considered spending time on any one activity for merely pleasure; everything for her needed a purpose. However the girl wouldn’t accept purpose without passion, and it was this roadblock that caused her such conflict in deciding her future. Nayru glanced down at the anklet that adorned her left limb, and smiled. Bris had made it because she enjoyed it and it was beautiful, and Nayru wore it because Bris had given it to her and it was beautiful, but Nayru didn’t think she would spend time to create beauty. There was too little time and too much else to do and think about. Although, at times, she would sing and dance, but neither of these were real hobbies she perused. They were only what she did when she was alone and often while doing other activities or thinking. No, beauty was perhaps important, but her contribution to Dahlia de Mai even more so, and Nayru dismissed the idea of cultivating plants for decorative purposes. Perhaps beauty could be combined with what she did, but it could not be the sole purpose.

A favorite plant? Her voice was low and contemplative. Truly she liked many of them. The grape vines in the vineyards, the morning glories that grew by Nereid, the ivy that covered many of the houses in Wolfville. I like vines. Anything that climb. They take over anything they can, opportunist. They can strangle other plants, but they do it so slowly and they look so striking while they do it. A morbid answer perhaps, but it was the truth, and Nayru saw no reason to hide this from Anu. Do you have one? A favorite plant? Nayru thumbed the book somemore, her crimson eyes sweeping the room once more but having found her prize, found little incentive to search it further.

What some forgot was that life was not just short. It was long as well. For as many decisions that needed to be made with the mind set that life was too sort, just as many were made with the idea that in the long run it would be for the best. Anu had found that in young age there was a mentality to believe that life was nothing but short, but she had learned that if one was lucky it could be long and just as wonderful as it was hard. She would prepare her sons for such a life, teach them to take their time in deciding who they would spend their lives with, and where to let life take them. Perhaps it was her luck that allowed her to live to this age, but Anu had come to learn that some days needed to be made so that they were worth living, and her co rank brought joy to herself and those that were greeted with the pleasant scent and sight of her garden as well as the fruit of the orchard. Even in the rush of days gone by a small bit of beauty was a reminder to appreciate the little things that can be overlooked so very easily.

Anu listened contently, her hand picking up another book, looking at it and finding that it was not something that she thought would be good for the boys. Nayru’s choice was interesting, blue eyes looking up and watching the face of the black and white patched female. There are few that flower, but those that do are certainly beautiful. Anu spoke, thinking heavily on her answer. No wonder you were drawn to this place The buildings of the University were covered in vines, ever so slowly engulfing the stone structure.

Sensing that the Dahlian was content with what she had found Anu looked at the pile that she had accumulated. Pumpkins. She said with a nod. Anu believed the answer to be honest, though it was not the first plant that came to mind. She loved a flower, so delicate and beautiful but the thought of it brought the memory of Colibri to her mind far to painfully. There had been lady slippers in her garden last summer, but she hadn’t tended them this spring enough to keep them alive. Her pumpkin patch would flourish as it always did with only a small bit of care. They have bright yellow flowers, long vines and large leaves. And pumpkins are fun. She spoke with a smile, picking up the stack of books and resting them on her hip. Shall we? She asked, motioning to the door.

319.

Pumpkin. Nayru repeated the word as she followed Anu’s eyes to the door and readied herself to leave the room. Grasping her book she moved toward the hallway, and as she entered if she looked back over her shoulder at Anu. I have never seen a pumpkin. They sounded intriguing. And they had vines! That meant they were a hardy plant. They would grow at any opportunity probably, most vines did, and Nayru thumbed her books happily, knowing she could look up the plants when she returned home. The encyclopedia was a good find, and that she could use it thanks to the teaching of Bris was even better.

Emerging into the outside world once again the crimson eyes dilated as they adjusted to the lighting. More golden than ever Nayru knew that sunlight was limited and they had spent a fair amount of time combing through the piles and shelves of books. Nayru’s trek back into Dahlia wasn’t too far, but she did not know how long Anu had to go. And while a large, though manageable pile of books. Well, the woman would certainly understand why the young girl did not offer to assist in the transport of them, she was old enough to be out here but perhaps not yet old enough to stay out or wander too far.

Anu, thank you for the company but I must return to Dahlia before night sets in and surely you will be wanted in Crimson Dreams? Nayru didn’t know what sort of demand on one’s time such young puppies would place, her memories did not span so far back as events before Dahlia de Mai grew fuzzier, but she imagined that the demand was great none the less. Hopefully your boys get great use out of those books! Goodbye. Dipping her head in a customary farewell, clutching her book, the fairy child turned in the direction of home.

^^

Anu loved pumpkins, loved them ever since Haven had been a pup. It had been the first year she had planted them and together they had played among the large fruits. That had been about two years ago, and she tended them still in the hoped that she would always have that to remember those days. She wondered if her newest three would play among them now. You are welcome to visit. By mid fall they will be quite big. Anu told her with a smile. The Dreamer was always accepting of peaceful visitors, and she always wished for those interested in gardening to come and see the hard work she had put into the flowers and fruit trees.

The two left the building, books in hand and the elder wolfess’ wonders were confirmed by the Dahlian’s words. She was looking to find her way home as well. Anu had let her thoughts drift back her home lands and how the pups faired and if they would enjoy the books she brought them. Nayru was thinking something similar, it was time to go home. She nodded her gray crown and held the stack of book against her chest. Yes. She said simply, knowing it was time to see the three sets of blue eyes.

Good luck on your path Nayru. She said with a grin. The wolfess would need diligence and a bit of luck as she grew and found what it was that she wished to focus on. Anu watched for a moment as the young black and white fey walked away, then turned in the direction of the Dreaming lands and began the long walk that would bring her back.
