For Momma!!!<333

His world had started out so small, within the walls of the manor. Everyday it grew larger and was filled with new and wonderful things. Cypress wanted to understand everything around him. To discover and explore, he enjoyed learning the scents, sounds and sights of things that only moments earlier been unknown to him. His young mind filled with a curiosity that drove him to find the next adventure, the next treasure to be discovered.

The gardens and orchards was full of such delights. There different types of plants, momma had told him grew from little more than sunshine and rain. She had told him too, of the sweet smelling blooms that would come again in the spring. Aside from the plants, there were also all sorts of different bugs. Some dull and dark, like the ants and spiders, but there also those that were shiny and colorful. Even some that glowed in dark! This afternoon the pup patrolled the gardens, looking for something new to catch his interest. Whether it be a shiny beetle or a rabbit to chase, even though he had no chance of catching one.

Puppy tongue lolling from his mouth, Cypress sought shelter from the hot afternoon sun in the shade of bush of some short. Stretched out on his rolly pully, puppy belly, the ground nice and cool beneath him. Quickly becoming bored he swatted an over-sized paw at a low hanging branch, looking up through the weave of the branches coated in the leaves that sheltered him from the sun. Why did they grow like that? Why did they have leaves at all? His eyes followed the branch's to the trunk, and the trunk to the ground. Was there more of the plant under the ground? Isn't that were momma said it got the water from? Suddenly he wanted to know what it must look like. Maybe if he moved some of the dirt out of the way he could see? He scratch gingerly at the dirt at its base. Careful and tactful at first, it was long before both front feet and his nose were covered in dirt as he dug up the roots of the shrub.

YAYYYYYY!

Anu walked slowly form the Manor, taking each step as easily and lazily as she desired. When she came to the boundaries of her garden she hesitated, looking at all the weeds and the few flowers that grew. She was disappointed that it was not her proudest year in the avenue of horticulture, but she had other things that she had been able to nurture. It was because of her litter that Anu had had to neglect the garden. But it was a sacrifice she would have made time and time again. The wolfess had no intention of working against the malicious weeds today, her form her smallest four legged lupus. Instead she moved through the garden and towards the orchard, her steps still slow and her thoughts reflective.

She was unsure where the boys were, the trio constantly on her mind since the day she knew of their conception. Alder was likely with Mati, his ‘sissy’ as he called her the mother’s replacement for the afternoon. He followed Anu constantly, venturing on his own only in a rare instance. She could not mind it, loving each of the pups and not yet ready to give up their connection to her. She thought of Haven, the distance between them and feared that the more adventurous of the three would grow far from her as well.

The worry was on her mind when she caught the familiar scent of someone she knew. Her head turned, the fresh scent of unearthed soil lingering in the air as well. Silently she moved closer, catching sight of the puppy rump and dirt being kicked all around it. Her features remained calm, perhaps a glint of amusement shining in her eye, Cypress She called, drawing out his name with a slight musical tone. She wondered what he was thinking, and what it was he was searching for.

ooc goodnesssss

The first thing the young pup noticed, as his nails dug into the soft earth, was that the dirt uncovered smelt rather different the the exposed dirt at the surface. The scent was heavy and damp. Becoming more and more so the deep he dug. Which was only a few inches. The roots themselves released a sort of bitter, yet sweet scent, not the same heavy musk of the dirt that surrounded them. After ever few digging swipes of his thick puppy paws, he would stick his nose deep into the created hole. Sniffing and snorting at all the new scents that were uncovered.

Once he had a few of the roots uncovered, he stopped to investigate. After all they were what he had been curious about at first. He was amazed to see how the snaked and forked off from one another, starting large and growing smaller and smaller as they divided off one another. Amazed that the plant was not so different under the dirt as it was above. The roots were much like the branches and limbs. Except they were covered in dirt, rather than green leaves. Tilting his head curiously to the side he wondered if it weren't for the dirt if they would grow leaves like the limbs above.

His pondering was interrupted by an all to familiar voice behind him. His head and ears shot up, while his tail and rump quickly tucked under him. Spinning promptly to face his mother, he planted his rump in the hole he had created in his best attempt to hide it. Forgetting that the dirt strewn across the ground, and his muzzle, would be evidence enough of his deed. "Hi momma," he said brightly as if he had not been caught at all. His tail wagged, unseen behind him within the confines of the whole his butt plugged.

look! short!

There was little she would be able to do to curb this little male’s curiosity. It wasn’t like he was out of control, though the gardener was no exactly loving the idea that he was digging so close to the delicate roots. But the mother in the fey thought it best to just take a deep breath and find his reasoning for such an exploration. That was until she saw his face. The pup twirled on his paws and looked up at her with innocence beaming though those deep blue orbs. Cypress greeted her brightly, shining though the dirt that was on his face. Hello my son. She said, the words deeper then when she called his name. He was filthy, and though Anu was not without her dirty toes, there was no possible way she was going to allow such a face at her dinner table.

What do you have there? She asked, her tone not stern but holding an even wondering. She looked around his rump and eyes the spot he had been digging at. Anu looked at it for a good long moment before looking back at the black and brown boy and lifting her eye brow.

It was impossible for the pup to tell just how filthy his face had become. Though he could see the a bit of it smeared across the top of his nose, he lifted a dirt covered paw in an attempt clean off his nose but it only made matters worse. She peered around him, asking what it was. Saying 'nothing' popped into his head, but knew such a fib would just get him in trouble since momma could already see that it was certainly more than nothing. Looking down at his dirty paws he muttered, "a hole." Looking up at his momma he hoped he wasn't in too much trouble. "I ony want to see da undergwond parts. I pomis I whill put da dirt back," He offered. He had been careful not to actually dig up the roots though, and while they were perhaps not as perfect and pristine as they had once been, there wasn't any major damage done to the plant. He had only wanted to learn more about it, not harm it after all.

he's sooo cute!

Anu could not help but smile. She should be upset that the little male had gotten into her garden and dug such a hole, but as the blue eyes peered out from behind the dirt mask that he had created for himself Anu feld her heart warm and melt. He spoke, the honesty loud in his short words. The mother gave a nod, and as he sputtered to explain the adult tried not to laugh. Her face was expertly kept even, and she listened in silence.

The roots were a delicate thing, and Anu would have been unhappy to see another maybe older wolf doing such a thing for mere fun. But this was her son, and if she was to make exceptions for anyone it was going to be her young. Fairness was something that elder Dreamer understood and practiced well, but she found it difficult to not give her sons a little leeway when it came to innocent things such as this.

The mother’s eyes looked with curiosity, The underground parts? She asked, knowing that a lesson could be taught in this small moment. Let me see. She said as she moved close to the dirty dirty puppy. She crouched beside him, brushing some of the dirt from his face as she grew close. Ohhhh She spoke as she looked down, Do you see the roots? She asked, eyes looking back at the pup. Do you know what they do for the plant?

Cypress was glad to see that his momma didn't look particularly angry with him. Smiling at him as she did, he couldn't help but smile back, his little tail shaking his whole back half as wagged. "Uh huh, the undergwond parts, Is never seens dem before." He had only wanted to see what they looked like, always hidden away from sight within the soil that surrounded them.

The boy moved his rump away from the hole as his momma asked to take a better look. He turned around, taking a look himself at the hole he had dug close to the base of the bush. He nodded as Momma asked if he had seen the roots. "Day look like branches, but is softer and smells funny." He couldn't help but ask the question that had come to his mind earlier, sure that his Momma would know. She knew everything! "Ifs we wheft dem out, would day grow weaves too?" His head was tilted curiously as he posed the question, one of his ears flopping over. Both ears flopped against his head as he gave it a shake no. The tree pup didn't know what the roots did for the plant exactly, but he wanted to know. "Whats dat?"

Her son’s smile warmed her heart, and the Dreaming leader knew that it would be impossible for her to ever be truly angry with him. All three of her children had been blessed with kind hearts and pleasant natures. The mother claimed it luck, knowing that there was no way that she had been able to give them such a wonderful personality just in the short months she had known them.

Cypress nodded, answering with excitement and wiggling before her. His curiosity for the plant life hit a cord with the horticulturist green thumb and heart, and she was beyond willing to share this moment and explain anything to him and answer all the questions that he might have. The gray and tan fey watched as he looked into the hole he had made, listening to his description and smiling softly.

No, She answered softly and sat down next to the bush. They will not grow leaves. Blue eyes looked back to the hole that had been made and then back to her tawny and black son, his blue eyes catching hers. Anu did not want to tell him that they would likely wither and dry in the exposed air. They’re soft because the soil protects them. Anu placed her paw in the soft dirt that he had awoken. Well, She began, looking at the leaves of the bush. All plants need water to drink, just like us. When it rains the water runs through the dirt and down to the roots. The little hairs on the roots soak up the rain water and give it to the bush. She looked back at the floppy eared pup with a small smile, wondering slightly if he understood and knowing that he was bright and curious and would let her know if he didn’t. You can feel them, if you touch softly

"Oh." The disappoint was obvious in his voice as Cypress realized he had been wrong to think that the roots might possibly grow leaves if left to the open air and sunshine. Someday his mind would have a greater mastery over of the wonders of the world around him. There was much to learn and many questions to ask before then though. Someday though, he would know how everything in the world worked, just like his momma!

His wide blue eyes filled with wonder and amazement as the tawny wolfess that was his mother explained what the roots were and what they did for the plant. It all seemed a bit magical to pup. "Whoa, das ahma-zing." Even the smallest thing was a great revelation his young world. Mind curiously pondering at how the water made it from the roots to the rest of the bush, but momma said it did so it must somehow.

Cypress had already investigated a the roots a little bit before his mother had showed up, but he wasn't going to pass up another opportunity to get another sniff and feel of the part of the plant that was always hidden away. "Okays!" Excitement not only in his voice, but also equally showing in the wag of his tail. First he sniffed at them, before giving them a gentle poke with is damp and textured nose. After a few seconds, he looked expectantly at his mother, awaiting to see if she anything else to teach him about the plant, his young mind eager to learn.

The world was not always how it seemed. The mother could hear the disappointment in the youths voice, and knew that he wanted to think otherwise. But the Earth was a surprising place, and Anu would not go as far as believe that there wasn’t something on it that would disprove her theory. In far away places there were things that she had never seen and never even though of. They held mysteries that could over turn all of the Dreamer beliefs. She only knew what she had been taught all those years ago and what she had learned on her own, this native and local landscape as her guide.

His yearning to learn was encouraging for the horticulturist and mother. Though she wanted her sons to find their own paths and interests she was pleased that Cypress showed interest in such things as biology and plant life. She watched as he sniffed at the root and touched it with his nose. The silver and tan female nodded her head and explained a bit further. Since plants can not move they can not hunt like we do, She began, water hued eyes looking down at the small pup. they get their food from the Sun’s light. That is why very little can grow in the shade. She tried to explain it as best she could without getting into too much detail, such knowledge would come with experience and age for the little male.

but why? huh mommy why? xD

Someday the young one would come to understand that everything lived and died. That there was cycle that repeated endlessly and that every living thing was, in some way, bound to it. At the mention of the golden orb high in the sky the child tilted his head back looking up at it. Confusion knitting his small brow between ears that seemed far too big. "But how? It so far away." He gave his mother an expectant look. She was so smart, he felt sure she knew the answer to everything. "Do rocks eat da sun food too?" The question voiced the instant it had popped into his head. He was just beginning to question at the rules of life. Having come to the realization that if plants had to eat, what else did? Confusion had gave way to curiosity, big ears threatening to fold under their own weight as he perked them for his mother's response.

Something made the pup look down, the dirt strewn ground reminding him that there was still some unfinished business to attend to. "I put the dirts back now?" He had told his momma he would put it back, hadn't he? Looking around at how far he had scattered the black, damp soil he felt a little bad for the mess he had made. Even if momma didn't seem to be mad at him for it.

maybe close this & we could have a more up-todate thread?

Anu could not remember how she had explained such things to Naniko’s litter. But then perhaps their birth mother had told them about the way life worked. She found herself catching her tongue and making sure she did not roll right into the full explanation of how such a thing was to work. But Anu held more faith in things then anything, and was willing to believe that some things happened simply because they did and she was content with it. But the curious boy did not seem to be the same and the Dreaming leader looked down at his wondering face and smile. But even if it is so far, can’t you still feel his warmth? The silver toned wolfess held a small laugh at his next question, No, rocks do not need to eat or drink. She explained with a soft tone.

I think that’s best. She agreed with her tree-named son, and moved forward to help with the process. Her light tanned paws sunk into the loose soil, and she stood beside Cypress as she pushed the soil back into the large hole that he had made. There was a small part of the mother had had been mad to see that he had dug up the roots of the bush, but she could not be mad at him for long or really at all. His curiosity was too adorable and she was proud at the interest he had take in the plant life.
