Just by the way, this is the Incubus "Under my Umbrella," not the Rhianna one. :3 300+

The front deck of the Manor gave way to a beautiful view, dip between two separate planes of floral growth. To the right, the apple orchard; and to the left, the sweep of golden field that would eventually meet the ocean. He could see beyond that field, into the forest. And when he glanced above, he could see the sky for miles, a lovely attribute of the flat land.

Today, he thought of the boy he and Savina would be meeting in a few moments. He did not know any more about him than what Savina had shared, and this made him feel extraordinarily, utterly useless. Denali now slept among the Sadira-Marino family, already uncannily belonging. Kansas loved to watch his pups interact with Denali, to see their heartwarming acceptance of him as a gift. The cherub felt the same way as his children did about the abandoned puppy, and he hated himself for taking no time to get to know him better.

Kansas rose to his feet and stretched his elongated form, nails scratching against the withering wood of the porch. Savina would be coming soon, and together they would find Denali and ask him if he wished to join their family. Hopefully, Denali would forgive the Colonel's previous lack of attention. Not at all had he meant to seem standoffish and uncaring. Today was his chance to prove to the lone pup that he would be glad to have him as a son. Denali was one of his own, not just an insignificant new roommate. The snowy wolf would be crushed if the boy didn't feel his sincerity and refused his and Savina's offer.

Kansas rose out of his stretch and stood at the top step of the deck, gazing across the fields at the trees that writhed faintly int he wind. His turquoise eyes swinging left and right, he called softly to his Love. "Savina?" He sensed that she was near.

It had been some time now since the little lost pup had showed up on Crimson Dreams' doorstep and Savina had fed him and let him come and sleep with her family. She had sincerely hoped that against all odds, his parents would show up and either decided to join the pack as well or take the little boy back into their care. It had not happened though, and she had grown increasingly attached to the playful Denali. He slept with them every night, had become a part of the routine, and she knew that she had started to look at him as one of her own. To the mother, he was her's in everything but blood and name. If his parents were still alive, surely they would have found him by now. So she had talked to Kansas about offering to formally adopt the pup into their family. He hadn't spent much time with Denali, but agreed to her proposal, also wanting to offer the boy a new family.

The Commander had gotten up early and went to sit by the lake for a bit before she met up with Kansas to go seek Denali out to make their offer to him. He seemed happy with them, but she wasn't sure how the boy would react. She hoped that he wouldn't feel they were trying to replace his birth parents, and that they were only doing it out of affection and care of him. The sleek dark fey got up to head back to the manor and ran into none other but the mottled boy himself. Smiling, she had asked him to come with her back to the mansion, for she had something that she wanted to ask him along with her mate. The boy agreed to come and walked with her back to the large house that the pack all shared.

As the large structure quickly came into view she could make out the form of her lover on the porch, standing ghostly pale and handsome as always. Her tail wagged happily at the sight of him, as it always did. Savina teased Denali into a race to the porch and increased her pace. Of course she didn't run straight out, or she would have left the pup far behind, but kept herself so she was just about nose and nose with him the whole way until the end, where she let him beat her. "Ah, you beat me Denali! You're very fast, did you know that?" she asked, smiling brightly. Then she turned her bright gaze to her mate, padding up to join him on the porch. She licked his cheek and nuzzled briefly against his neck before looking back towards the boy. Suddenly she realized she wasn't sure how to approach this, and asked innocently, "Do you like it here Denali? Have you been happy?" She thought he had been, but it was best to be sure before continuing towards the main question. This was a delicate situation and they needed to proceed carefully.

WC: 319 (3 Points) OOC: <3 you guys rock Big Grin

Denali wasn’t doing much today, just finding something new to play with or another scent to put in his memory, which was now full of all sorts of things since he learned his nose could pick individual things up, but today was starting out rather boring, he was sitting in the sunniest patch of area he could find, soaking in what was left of the sun. He could feel it getting colder, but why? He had been interrupted by Savina, and he couldn’t help but forget that oh so important, but not so important question. She didn’t know it but to Denali she was his mommy now, his mother who’d protected him that day, was gone, he didn’t say she was dead, he still had yet to figure out what that actually was, but she was just gone, like his daddy. So they had been replaced but the ever dark wolf who asked him to join her, and race her to the porch. Where he beat her, and he couldn’t help but yip for joy. He’d seen the white shape on the porch, although he’d not been paying too much attention, he knew he was safe with Savina. Now he looked up to see Kansas, he’d barely spoken to the wolf, why? He didn’t know, maybe it was his intimidation or something else, but they never talked much. He liked him though, he had always been kind to Denali, so he had no reason to dislike him. He was curious why Savina brought him here when she asked the questions. There was no doubts in his mind.

I like it here a lot! I’m having lots of fun.

He said still not having any idea what was going on. Her questions didn’t seem to make sense, he’d never really had any bad experiences, except for that nasty old cat… but other than that, he was happy as could be.

My sincerest apologies for overlooking this thread. It will be my top priority, I promise. Smile

The sleek, cloud wisp of his tail began to beat against the porch floor when two very different shapes gamboled from the direction of the lake. Kansas was happy that his mate had found Denali without any trouble, and even happier to see the child smiling and laughing. The Sadira grinned broadly to them both, nuzzling Savina as hungrily and affectionately as if they had been separated for weeks rather than mere hours. He moved back towards the house a little to give more room to them all, since he'd been sitting right in the center of the porch steps. Turquoise eyes fell to the raven woman as he wondered how she, they, would proceed. It was hard to guess the boy's reaction when neither of them knew much about his background and his blood parents. Kansas did not want Denali to perceive their offer as an attempt of control. He and Savina were both coming from a place of adoration for the agouti pup — it was simple.

Kansas was relieved when Savina spoke first. She was more sophisticated with words than he, so he trusted her to go about this the right way. Denali responded lightheartedly, seeming unaware of where this conversation was really headed. That's great, the pale wolf said, smiling genuinely. He didn't doubt the boy's answer at all, having seen him frolicking gladly many times before. It was a good that Savina ascertained his happiness first, anyway.

I — we — like having you here, Kansas added truthfully. He quieted, giving Savina free reign to continue. She was closest to the youngster — a mother to him, even.

S'ok Killi! <333 300+

A happy whine came from the woman's throat at her mate's returned affection. She could never get enough of him and was always happier when they were together. It wasn't that she was unhappy when they were apart, everything just seemed so much brighter and more wonderfully when he was right beside her. This meeting was hardly just about them though, and so as Kansas moved and resituated himself, Savina took a seat beside him, her tail wrapped fastidiously around her paws. Denali answered her question brightly, confirming that he was in fact happy here in Crimson Dreams. Kansas answered him, and she nodded her head in agreement. She was glad that he was here with her to do this, she would have felt much less confident if she had been doing this on her own.

Her mate added a few more words to the boy, which she felt gave her the perfect launching point to ask Denali the real question that she had brought him here for. "Yes, we really do like having you here Denali," she said with a loving smile on her face. "You've been here for a while now, and well, we were wondering if you would want to officially be a part of our family?" The Italian fey felt that that wording would be better than asking if he would like them as parents. Even though she suspected the worst of the couple that had birth Denali, she didn't want to give him the impression that she and Kansas wished to replace his real mother and father in any way. Such a thing could never be done, even if they were gone. They only wished to give the pup some added love and security. Savina cared deeply for Denali, and would be honored to call him her son if he would allow her to.

Denali looked from one to the other, both total opposites, he had to admit he was rather confused and he wasn’t use to this much attention unless he was being bad, but had ne done anything bad lately? Thinking, he didn’t think he did, they also talked with kindness, so he was confused, and with Kansas speaking, he wondered what made him say such things and then with Savina’s words, he tilted his head, why ask such a question?

I thought I was part of your family.

He said bluntly, obviously confused as to what they meant, he slept with them, and played with the puppies, and also ate with them, they took care of him just like his own family did and now that his parents had not come to get him, he thought that he now had a new family, he didn’t know about anything about official stuff, the word had little to no meaning to him. They seemed to be choosing what to say very carefully, are they afraid of making him sad, had they found his parents, or did they think; as he did; they were never coming to get him? He wasn’t sure but he waited, waited for an answer to his own comment.

Though Kansas was content to stand beside Savina while she questioned Denali, he had no merit with the boy, and suspected that the pup's trust in him was very slight. He knew this conversation was important to his mate — could see the excitement in her face. Kansas wasn't without a gleeful sense of anticipation himself. He somewhat unexpectedly had come to love children since the birth of his first litter, so the sudden possibility of having the privilege to raise another puppy enthused him. If Denali accepted their welcome, he would pose a new and rewarding challenge for the mated pair, a challenge that Kansas was more than happy to take.

The pale man rested the tip of his snout on his mate's shoulder as she spoke in her elegant accent. As he expected, she was all grace and love. He thought she gave her offer to the agouti boy in a very careful, dignified way. She couldn't have spoken better. Kansas was watching Denali with curious and gentle eyes, nervous about the reaction he would see on the young one's face. What seemed to the Sadira to be hesitance was quickly revealed as simple confusion. Proven wrong, Kansas stole a glance to his love and laughed softly, finding the boy's reaction very humorous. Denali already considered himself part of their family, rendering their angst and worry unfounded. The snowy brute did not quite know what to say, so he merely maintained a smile and awaited Savina.

This was much easier than he had dared expect.

It was an odd situation, to be sure. Savina had never witnessed any attempt at an adoption before, much less tried one herself. The only real adoption that she knew of was with Anu and Naniko's first litter, but that had been different. Anu had been their mother since birth, and had been as much a parent to them as their own birth mother. Denali was older, and he knew his birth parents, even if they now had been absent for some time. Kansas' physical reassurance helped to ease her nerves, but as she read the body language of the young boy she became concerned. Had she not spoken as she ought to? Had this just been a bad thing to try in the first place? The Commander licked her lips nervously as she waited for Denali to say something in response to her words.

When he did speak though, all the tension and worry drained from her quickly, her eyes taking on that characteristic sparkle. Her mate gave a soft chuckle, and she couldn't help but join him in that expression. "You are dear, you very much are. We just weren't sure what you thought. Now we do," she said with a broad smile. It was so sweet, to think that Denali had already considered himself a part of their family. It surely was not a wrong assumption at all. Ever since she had found him on the borders he had slept with them and ate with them and had become a good playmate to their three pups. Savina had thought that there would need to be some sort of pomp and circumstance to make the bond recognized, but clearly that was unnecessary. This was much nicer, she felt.

He looked at the two, then Kansas let out a soft chuckle and Denali couldn’t help but stare at the big white wolf. He’d never thought that he would do such a thing, he had never been near Kansas often but Denali found it strance that a laugh would be coming out of his throat. It was shocking, but it was not scary at all, he smiled at that and saw Savina give her own smile and do the same thing, did he really say something funny? He wasn’t going to put too much on it, but they both seemed less tense than earlier, he smiled, liking that he could make them happy, even if he didn’t know Kansas so much, but he couldn’t help but love Savina. She been there for him the whole time he’d lost his parents. It was a relief that he wasn’t in trouble too, because he knew he’d probably did things he wasn’t allowed to do. That made him breathe easier too.

But I thought you knew.

He said, to answer Savina’s comment, it was a relief to them that they knew what he thought? That was so strange. It was an adult thing though, maybe he’d understand later on in life.

Sorry it's so short.

Sky hued eyes sought Savina every few seconds until he witnessed her reaction to Denali, the luminosity that returned to her face a replacement of the worry even he had felt himself. His grin never shifted, though his eyes excitedly darted from the exotic ebony face to the boyish one. Denali still appeared very confused. After he had spoken again, Kansas watched him with gentle eyes. He couldn't imagine the little one's struggle. We knew, he said softly, his tail thumping on the wooden porch. We wanted to really make sure it was okay with you.

He hoped that he had spoken wisely. Though he followed what he felt in his heart, he knew that he didn't have a right to say very much to the puppy. It was just that, even from the distance he had kept, Kansas suspected that Denali belonged with them.

Shall we wrap this up? And sorry this is kind of rambley and weird x.x

Denali still seemed quite confused by all of this, but despite his confusion she could still see his happiness shine through. When they had first started speaking he had seemed a little hesitant, too, perhaps. Now the boy seemed more at ease even if his mind could not really work out what it was that they had been trying to accomplish by this little meeting. Denali spoke again, expressing more of his confusion, but her mate answered this time and she smiled over at him. Savina knew Kansas didn't know the boy as well as she did and he was often a quiet person when he was around people he didn't know so well, but what he said to the little pup was exactly what she would have said if she had been the one to answer him.

"Exactly," she said as a reinforcement, looking back to Denali. Hopefully his little mind could stop worrying over the meaning of this probing conversation and they could just continue to go about their day as they had been before, since really nothing had changed. Savina had already thought of him as her son, and apparently he had already accepted them as surrogate parents. Everything was just as she had hoped that it would be, it just hadn't taken the kind of effort she had assumed it would.
