Going Hunting

Hunting was one of the more favorited sports for the young jackal. Sepirah always enjoyed having a good chase and then getting a reward out of it. In most cases, her reward was a simple meal, usually something small. Most of the time the dark princess spent time hunting into the lands of Inferni, but then it was no challenge. The chase was normally always the same because she knew her way around the pack lands. Today was going to be different. It was time for her to find a new place to hunt and a new place that would make hunting more of challenge, even if the prey was still small.

After a bit of roaming, Sepirah made her way to the waste. She knew Inferni controlled most of the territory, but there was also a part of this territory that was not controlled by the jolly band of coyotes. This unclaimed land would surely make a wonderful and exciting place to have a chase. As she moved along the rough stones, she came to the stretch of land and began to sniff around for some prey. At first there wasn’t much of scent, but that was alright. That just made hunting all the more exciting.

It wasn’t until around noon that she caught the scent of something. It was just a mouse, but now began the fun. The jackal crouched down and waited a moment before springing off her back feet and pouncing at the tiny creature. She caught the thing on her first try, but decided to play with it a bit before delievering the final blow. She nipped at the mouse’s tail and watched it begin the limp off. She gave a light hearted chuckle and then began to trot after the little thing. After a few more nips and chases, she grabbed onto the mouse’s neck and bit down hard. Sepirah couldn’t help but laugh as the blood began to trickle down her muzzle. That was the most fun she had hunting in a while.

Harro! Man this would be funny if more joined. Then again.. Mala might get killed. XD.
Word count: 428. OMG I CAN HAS POINTS? ...No...? -cry-. Kidding!

What an unsuccessful day of looking for food. The big creature came trotting from the seas onto the extremely rocky part of the Waste, her muzzle and a couple paws still dripping wet. The rest of her body, however, was completely dry. This might've looked odd to any passerby who might have taken notice, but Malachi didn't much care to explain. A couple of times, her big paws slipped into rocky crevices, and she winced as she took a moment or two to nudge it free. This continued on until she looked upon soft sand, and seemed to lumber on a bit quicker to feel it under her digits.

"Ah... better," Mala exclaimed, taking the relaxing moment to shake any loose water off of her. Now, while she didn't have the problem of rocks anymore, now she had sand sticking on her four legs. Ugh, great. Luckily for her, though, she spotted grass not far off, and playfully made a leap towards it. She laughed all the way towards the grass, which melted into the sand before becoming green all on its own. If only her friends back at the tribe were here, she loved to play wrestle in soft grass.

That thought was quickly replaced by sadness, however, and Malachi shook her head a little violently to ward it off, like an annoying fly. She chose to replace it by surveying the scene before her, which was tall grass swaying in the wind. At this, she smiled, and continued to walk forward with no particular place in mind.
She stopped, though, once she saw the black form of... something.. leaping out and back in, then back out and in again. What was that creature tossing? Food? Mala's stomach growled at that, but she never far better than to steal another creature's kill. She was amused, however, as the creature seemed to play with the small rodent-like thing, until she couldn't see it anymore.

For some reason, she was more curious than she was nervous about approaching, though she took a few steps forward and stopped. From what she could see, it was a wolf or dog of some sort.. she couldn't put her claw on it exactly. Malachi laughed a little louder than she expected herself to, but quickly silenced herself as the dog raised up with blood around its muzzle. The creature swallowed hard, but she began to speak again a little tentatively.

"That looked fun. I like hunting, too, though it was a lot easier with my pack." Ohhh, Malachi. What are you doing now?

I hope Sepirah won't mind being near a Dahlian!
Forgive Rynnas' ignorance, he doesn't know much about jackals, so he assumed that she was a coyote.
WC: 737

It was high time for the sulky male to leave the pack lands. For so long he'd kept to himself, sticking close to Eli's old tree house and immersing himself in the plans and building of his own home. Aside from a few visits from his sister, Rynnas spent his time alone with Tumblety. And while he'd grown greatly fond of his little bat charge, the creature wasn't exactly the greatest for conversations. He'd been surprised that the bat even stuck around after his wing was completely healed. Rynnas had expected Tumblety to take off as soon as he opened the cage he'd made for the little guy's recovery. Instead, the pallid bat had lit from his roost and circled the area a few times before coming to land on Rynnas himself, sticking his claws into the scruffy fur along the werewolf's thick neck. Rynnas had frozen with surprise for a moment before agreeing with the animal's unspoken words. Alright then. He'd said softly, reaching to run a finger softly along Tumblety's length. It'll be just the two of us. And that was that. He was here to stay. Aside from hunting trips he took either at dusk or just before dawn, Tumblety remained in Rynnas' company. If he wasn't nestled deep into the fur along his neck or chest, he'd be roosted somewhere near by.

So while it was difficult for the subordinate to be away from his home and the comforting presence of his brother's memories, the male had to admit that getting out and about was good for him. He moved at a leisurely pace on all fours, his massive form easing through the trees with a grace that seemed at odds with his size. He'd pause here and there to investigate anything of interest, speaking out loud to his friend infrequently. Everything was taken in with a passive sort of interest. This was Rynnas' way. He'd acknowledge things now, but later on when he retired to bed he wouldn't be able to remember any details about his day. His mind would be consumed by different memories, things not so easily forgotten. It was as though he was currently living in a sort of limbo, unable to go back to before but also incapable of moving forward. He was stuck. Rynnas knew he'd be this way until he was able to move on from his brother's death. Easy in theory, but impossible to actually achieve. Not now, anyway. Perhaps some time in the future.

The memories were currently held at bay and Rynnas was able to function almost entirely unburdened. He moved on as the trees gradually thinned before giving away entirely, the forest ending where plains took its place. The terrain was a mixture of sand and rocks, a barren sort of place. He knew instantly that he preferred the forest over this area. Tumblety reacted to the sudden sun, burrowing deeper into his long fur as if to hide. Rynnas gave a sympathetic woof and was about to turn around in order to plunge back into the green darkness when the presence of others pulled at his attention. He was immediately on guard, his impressive form stiffening as he gazed around. He whimpered softly at Tumblety, warning the bat to conceal himself better. Already attuned to the wolf's cues, Tumblety moved to the back of Rynnas' neck, settling in at the base where his fur was the longest. Here he was almost unnoticeable. Satisfied, the massive male moved forward, eyes alert.

If he knew anything about Dahlia's history and Malachi's nature, the male would have been more worried about the coyote than the bear. As it was, he gave a brief nod to the Inferni member (whether she noticed or not, he wasn't sure) before turning his sharp gaze on the bear. Rynnas was giant by all wolf standards, but compared to a bear he was almost dwarfed. He'd never come across one before, but had been taught since his infancy to be wary of them. His grandmother, Ravyn had been involved in a rather nasty fight with a bear years ago. The scars on her body had been an effective reminder as she cautioned the pack's pups. So while Malachi's expression seemed friendly enough, he couldn't be sure. But perhaps it was a friend of the coyotes? He waited for a reaction before making any move.

Sepirah was enjoying her little hunting game and didn’t wish for it to end after she got her first meal. She continued to wander around the waste in search of some more prey. It seemed there was something else in the air as she noticed a lot of prey running about. The chase was on again and again. The jackal couldn’t get enough of it and wished there was something else to chase. It would have been more fun if there was a helpless wolf or pup to chase. Then the fun and excitement would have sky rocketed. If only such a thing could happen.

Her hunting fun was cut short as a strange scent caught her nose in the wind. It didn’t smell like anyone she knew nor was it the scent of her pack. As she turned around, she noticed something coming towards her. It was way too big to be a wolf. The dark princess stopped as she noticed this thing coming towards her was a bear. This was bad. The hunter seemed to have now become the hunted. She was not meant to be the prey in the hunting game and was going to make sure it stayed that way.

Sepirah did notice the other wolf but she would not allow herself to get any help from anyone. She was too close to home to be embarrassed now. She let out a growl to the wolf and then to the bear. As the bear came closer into view, the jackal pondered what it was even doing out here. Aren’t most bears in the woods and away from the open areas? What was this one doing all the way out here? Either way, she would defend herself if she needed to. She didn’t need any help and she was not about to turn and run like some scared pup. The dark princess was brave and would not let a bear scare her. She began to crouch down, ready for an attack.

D'oh! Sorry for the late reply.. I thought Sep had yet to reply XD.

Malachi remembered the first day she went on a hunt with her pack. They trusted her to bring down massive beasts, for a wolf her size could do what the other hunters could not. Now that she was on her lonesome, it was difficult to go out on her own for food, but she was slowly getting used to the idea. Seeing the jackal play about with her small meal brought the joy of remembrance back to her.

That is... until she saw the other wolf appear.

Now Mala definitely knew she was on another's territory. She swore the scent markings along the coast were faded, but she was rather... well.. wrong. Even from the distance that separated her and the other two, she felt the very sting of their gazes on her. Why her... why her?! She didn't remember any loner wolves having it this hard, or so she thought. Did she not smell like a wolf? Did she do something to offend them? Malachi wasn't sure, but instinct drove her to lie flat on the ground and stay still, her ears flat upon her head.

"K-kwe.." she began, still feeling like she should formally greet the others, even though she looked and acted like a wolf-pup in trouble. "Did I intrude? I'm sorry--" Mala whispered into the air, now hearing the jackal's growl and the stare of the other wolf behind her.
It was still never clear to Mala why others looked at her strangely, or even treated her different. Sure, she hated to intrude on anyone or their meal, or even their land. This thought had Malachi immediately wishing she were back into the safety of the trees... which were just beyond the two figures. The two who, from their gaze, seemed to want to wish her away.
