OOC: if you have any problems let me know i am willing to change it around Big Grin

he had a lot of thinking to do, and for that reason he was here, where here was he had no clue, but staring up at the border of the large immense buildings, he knew it had once been the habitat of an old human civilization. He didn’t want to step forth into the quiet city though. He was content sitting at the outskirts, where he could see so much already. He sat against a car that had been overtaken by the plants, moss, rust. He wasn’t playing his flute though. He was in a state of thinking. Life was harsh for him but not so much since he’d come here. It seemed so peaceful, a great place to just settle down, maybe have some pups, he wasn’t getting any younger. He did have to laugh at that last thought. He needed a mate for that. He was in no way a prig, even though he charmed as many females as he could, he was a loyal wolf, who’d yet to have a mate. What he needed first was a good established home. But what pack would be good for him? He started playing his flute, a slow calm tune as he thought of where to go, he’d smelled a few packs, he knew no names of them, maybe he should visit them, see how they were? That way he could make a good decision, if not, he’d make friends and allies, something a lone wolf needed out here in the wilderness, right now if a bear jumped out and attacked him… no one would know… or possibly care at this point in time.

Looks fine to me!

You know what they say: If you wish a bear wouldn't come your way, you might as well expect one under your nose. Okay, well, that isn't really a saying, but that's exactly what happened. Malachi didn't truly notice when the grass left her feet and was replaced by gravel, but when she did she was taken aback. Her big body rolled to the left as she looked around her, and finding herself a little disoriented. The smells were, needless to say, a little awful, and Mala immediately wished she were near her home again. Wherever that was.

Some sounds of distress uttered from her lightly-colored muzzle, finding herself a little scared as she looked ahead onto an ancient city. She couldn't turn back... she didn't even know where 'back' was! Her head craned up to look at the tall buildings in the horizon, and she fidgeted as she tried to get a good feel of the old road underneath her. Mala inhaled deeply to soothe herself, though it didn't help with the musty air filling her senses. Snorting, she decided it best to just keep her head down low and keep on walking. Maybe if she closed her eyes, the city would just disappear.

But it didn't. In fact, when she opened her eyes and looked up again after a few silent minutes, it seemed like she was only at the borders of the city. Mala sighed greatly with disappointment. Not only was she alone, but alone in a giant, creepy, dark, empty city. Her giant body let go of all tension as she plopped herself onto the ground, a large THUD shaking the ground and loose dust stirring about her. She didn't care, though, all that crossed her mind was how she was going to get out of this wretched place.

OOC: The thread was slightly hard to grasp onto and reply to sorry ; ; I tried to make it work to our advantage ^^. Small tip, and not trying to be rude, make sure there is an opening for the other character to respond to so they don’t have to scramble for words Big Grin.

Shaw was deep in thought and did not actually see the bear, he didn’t even notice the big thing was so near him… not until he heard the moan up distress and then the smell of the fear from the bear. He stopped playing his flute at once. A scared bear was not one to be near and he was smart enough to know that. What he didn’t know was the closeness of the bear itself, when it sat he felt no tremble but just heard the thump of a very intimidated animal. Shawchert didn’t move, didn’t even try to say anything, maybe if he was quiet he’d be unnoticed. He’d been taught to be smart enough to leave a bear alone no matter what especially one in distress. Though it seemed there was something quite odd about this animal. She seemed… not like other bears, most wouldn’t bother with old human habitats and even more wouldn’t just sit and stare. Maybe she thought she was in the middle of the city, when in fact all she had to do was turn and find the forests and fields right behind her, should he tell her, would she understand him? Or would she turn her fear and uneasiness on him. He’d many questions and the only way he’d find out if they would be answered was to actually do something. He was tall for his size, but he could not take on a full grown bear. He brought up his courage.

Everything is all ok, turn around and you will see the forests.

He said apprehensively, in a very kind and calm voice, he knew if he’d shown his own fear things would go awry, and reacting in a way that was calm and happy might just save his own hide so that he could actually live to see those pups he had thought about.

Sorry about that. Remind me not to reply to a thread so late at night. XD.

The creature felt the necklace around her neck pinch slightly as she had laid down to rest and think for a few moments. Sure, she could just go back the way she came.. but even back there she didn't know the forests all that well. But if she moved forward, she was only going further into the unknown. And with no companionship, at that. How in the world did lone wolves make it? Her brows furrowed as she laid there, scenting the old, unpaved road as she inhaled and exhaled rather loudly. She didn't mind being alone... and yet she did.

But in all her distress and processing whether or not to go back or move forward, Malachi didn't even notice that another was sitting but a few paces away from where she lay. Or even that he was delicately blowing into his flute. Only did Mala's senses reel back into focus when the other spoke. She still lied there, but the beast lifted her head up to glance at the car, then the wolf who seemed to speak rather calmly to her.
For some unexplained reason, Malachi relaxed a bit. This other didn't seem too apprehensive of her, and judging by his posture this deserted city wasn't his territory. However, every ounce of her was cautious as she braced all four paws against the earth and made to stand, keeping her eye on the male.

"I.. erm. I guess so," she started to say, turning her head to look behind her momentarily. "But like that city ahead, even the forests are unknown to me." Malachi decided to take one step forward, but then hesitated and stood her ground, looking from the Luperci to the tall, rustic buildings. "If only I were like the others wolves I knew.. even the loners seemed to know their way around foreign lands." Malachi couldn't help but recall a memory or two, and after her words trailed off a small laugh emitted, and then died with the still breeze of the mid-afternoon.

OOC here!

Something happened that Shaw would never in his life expect to happen. The bear spoke high speech, it was not unheard of, but to him it was a legend that other animals had that ability, he had heard cats could do it with ease if they showed they were interested in it, but a bear, it was just so unheard of that he was utterly taken aback when the bear chose to talk. Not only that but this showed Shaw that she was not going to attack, making him feel a bit braver yet even more apprehensive, He gave her a slight smile now, and he stood himself, he expected the bear to be so much taller than him… but he towered over her, it was astonishing and well impressive in his thoughts but he wasn’t going to say that out loud, he knew there was more brute strength in the muscles the bear held under her winter fat. Well it didn’t look like she was getting ready to hibernate right now herself, he wasn’t going to say anything though a bear was going to do what it wanted to.

I see, I too am quite new to the territory, it is only scary if you make it so. The trees are at least friendly that I know is true, they give us all we need. If you are a loner it shouldn’t matter where you are.

He wasn’t going to mention boundries and borders, he didn’t know much about bear territories, and he knew that they were not chased out of many packs because bears were a big part of the areas in Canada, something he learned, but just found out today. When she mentioned other wolves though, he was more interested in this bears background, wouldn’t she know more bears than wolves? He was not sure what he should say though, he was quite interested and it seemed the bear was in a way more comfortable around him than he thought was normal.

Just to Malachi, having someone to converse with meant she didn't have to spend the day wandering alone. It never occurred to her, in her wolf state-of-mind, that all others were apprehensive being around her, let alone even speaking to her. Mala knew her place though, she learned that early on in her youth. Even strangers she had to be careful around, but recently she welcomed most any companion.

The creature shifted her weight from paw to paw as she saw the other begin to stand. Her honey-colored eyes couldn't help but widen as she saw how tall he was.. the only one she remembered just as tall was the elder of her former tribe. But this wasn't the time to show fear, not when this other seemed so sure to be in her presence. Her rounded ears swiveled as Mala listened intently on the Luperci's words. '...it is only scary if you make it so.' That much was true, and she nodded in agreement as her necklace click-clacked together with the movement.

"It matters to me. My pack always stuck together," she informed kindly, keeping an eye on the male as she looked to observe the instrument he was holding. Excitement sparkled in her eyes, just then. "You're a ketu'muet?" Malachi asked with curiosity, pronouncing the native word for one who plays an instrument, more interested in the music than the fact that the male might not have understood the word.

Shaw’s interest peeked as the other wolf spoke, either she left on her own free will, or whoever she lived with kicked her out, just as his father kicked him out. But were bear colonies really called packs just like wolf packs? Or did his suspicions that this bear was actually raised in a wolf pack true? All the things she said had come together in her words he’d told her, she didn’t mention bears at all and yet she was a big one at that. It made him wonder if she thought herself as a bear. He wouldn’t want to lift through the illusion just by stating it, but if it came down to it he wouldn’t lie either.

He saw her look down at his flute that was in his hands, the one he’d carved very carefully from wood that had taken him many seasons to perfect. Though the question she asked next was not one he’d expect to hear, he didn’t understand what she meant, he raised an eyebrow though and looked at her questioningly.

I’m sorry but a what?

He asked as politely as he could, he had no doubts he’d be able to pronounce what she just said, but he wasn’t about to try and get it wrong now, in case it offended her, although his confused question could be a offensive, but he did try to say it in a way that it was all his fault for not knowing what she meant.

The thought of music and song seemed to uplift the creature, so much so that it seemed to pick her up on her two back legs. She wasn't sure why, but this feeling inside her caused her to shift her weight onto her lower-end and rise to stand. Even at her standing height, though, she was still a few feet short of the Luperci's height, and this seemed marvelous to her.

"You're just as big as my poppa," she muttered almost incoherently, not meaning to have even said those words out loud. The beast took a few steps towards the old car in her current stance, almost forgetting what it was like to only be on her two feet again. It had been a while, that's for sure. She dropped her weight just behind the car, another audible thud vibrating across the pavement.

Mala kept her eye on the flute, darting from it and then to the male. He didn't seem dangerous, really. In fact, he reminded her of an old friend. It had been a good few minutes since he asked her a question, too, one which she completely forgot about until just then. The creature shook her massive head, as if to tell herself: 'Of course, he doesn't understand'.

"Ketu'muet. One who plays an instrument and sings," she advised matter-of-factly. She pointed her muzzle up to the clear sky, and that flash of green could be seen laced with the signs of hope. "I like to sing, too. I used to sing the pups to--" But she cut herself off just then, and threw her head back down and away so the male wouldn't see the sudden pain that crossed her features. Malachi threw a bit of her weight against the back of the rusted car in frustration, hearing it creak in movement. She shut her eyes momentarily, as she gave a loud snort to try and cover up the sadness that threatened to burst out.

She took a moment of silence to herself, knowing full-well there was another there. 'No time to show your pain now, she thought. "Will you play something?" Her questioning voice was rather weak, and as it trailed off she turned again towards the direction of the male, giving him her full attention.

OOC here!

Thinking about a bear his own size was just dizzing, he’d never really seen a bear up close … at least this close, and he could tell it would have been one big one if he was as tall as shawchert. Her actions were quite strange, were bears suppose to walk on two legs? It didn’t seem so when she fell down, the hair on the back of Shawchert’s neck stood up, it was nerve wracking to know such a large animal was right next to him, but he wasn’t afraid, not anymore. She seemed so very nice. He explanation made Shaw understand what she was talking about, but it also seemed to make her sad, so she sang pups to sleep? That was quite interesting, he’d never heard a bear speak and here was one, why couldn’t one sing as well, he felt bad when she looked down depressed, he was afraid to ask what had happened to her home. At her request he smiled

I would gladly play for you, I just hope it helps take your sadness away.

He said then put the flute to his mouth where he blew into the flute, making a noise and going from there, he made up this song, it was slow yet upbeat, something that could be danced to or just listened to, it was one of those tunes that was enjoyable to all ears, at least that’s what he felt, and the few that have heard him play it enjoyed it. When he finished he pulled the flute from his mouth and smiled. He did hope it was to her liking, the bear wasn’t what he thought one would be, it was nice though. He was enjoying her company

Haha, for some reason the moment I read Shaw playing the flute, I was half-expecting rats from the city to show up. XD

The amazement that shone through Malachi's face was unclear even to her. Whether it was the music that she had started to hear wafting in the air, or the fact that this Luperci was trying to ease her sadness. And it wasn't just sadness about not being able to see the tribe's pups grow up without her songs, it was the loneliness that built up the moment she was cast out. The moment the male before her mentioned wanting to ease the beast's sadness, she smiled.. a smile she could only classify as a friendly one.

That was forgotten for a few moments as Mala quietly listened to the tune. It was very beautiful, and she almost wished she could just grab it from the air and string it around her like a necklace. Which, speaking of, the beads around her furry neck began to clack, and she found herself moving up and down on her paws to the beat of the flute. It was fun, and though her steps weren't visible in the beginning, the rest of her body began to sway to and fro as she looked into the sky, as if she could see the notes disappear into the clouds above.

When the male stopped playing the flute, she too stopped moving. The smile across her muzzle remained, and this unexplained happiness glided through her. "That was very nice, erm--" Just then, it occurred to Malachi that she never asked for the male's name. How rude of her, and her brows furrowed in slight annoyance. "Malachi," she blurted out, saying the first thought that came to her. To further prove what she meant to say, she lifted a big paw and pointed it towards her broad chest.

OOC: Blah what a crapptastic week but I can post more for a bit till I go to another craptastic week next week, on tues ^^;

He was watching her as he played, and saw she was swaying to the music, a dancing bear he would have never thought! It was an amusing sight but he’d trained himself to stay emotionless until the song was finished, he did have a much bigger smile on now, as he was still amused by the bear’s dance, but he was not going to mention it, then she let him know of his absolute rudeness, he’d been so tied up in how she looked, and that she could talk that he’d forgotten to introduce himself.

Oh my apologies, my name is Shawchert Menue, I’m so sorry for not introducing myself before, it really is a pleasure to meet you Malachi

He said, feeling absolutely unhappy with himself. How could he let something important like that slip from his mind, she didn’t seem to put off to it though. He was glad she liked his music, most wolves did, now he knew a bear that did.

So where are you from that you are afraid of these woods?

He asked, he knew it wouldn’t help ease her homesickness, but it would have to be a start for now, then he could make it slightly easier for her to move around and be less afraid, he was only apprehensive of the human structures, he was possibly more intimidated by them than Malachi was, but that was something he wasn’t about to admit.

It's okay, I hope you're feeling better from picking up those crates the other day though. <3

Her slight annoyance at never having introduce herself quickly melted away, as her ears swiveled in picking up the male's name. Shawchert? It was interesting, to say the least. This was, after all, the first in quite a while she had made decent conversation with another. And thank goodness that pesky bear wasn't anywhere in the open, here at the city's outskirts, to try and eat her and her new companion.

"Kwe," she said a bit absentmindedly, the Mi'kmaq word for greeting another rolled off of her tongue with ease. Finding herself with another somehow eased the tension of being lost in a big city, but now her attention was called upon by the loud sound of her rumbling tummy. Though it didn't look like she was going to find any food around here. Curiously, though, she directed her eyes towards the car, and moved to place her two front feet on the trunk, attempting to peer into the back window for any kind of... nourishment.

"So where are you from that you are afraid of these woods?" When she heard the word 'afraid', she turned her head rather sharply to look at the other, still leaning her front half on top of the car. "I wouldn't say afraid.." she began, with a hint of sureness in her voice. "But I came from far up north. Here.. I just don't know my way around here." Mala leaned forward to sniff around the window, but all she smelled was rust and dust. She decided to try and turn the conversation over to him, her search for food still going on. "Whereabouts are you from, Shawchert?"

OOC here!

He suspected her reaction to his introduction was something of a nice to meet you or something but he wasn’t too sure, but soon he realized that the bear was sniffing around, she was probably hungry, what did bears eat? He waited though, if she was looking it must be somewhere nearby.

I’m sorry for my bad wording, I didn’t really expect you to be afraid, more apprehensive I suppose. Well if you always know where north is and the way the moss grows along the trees you are never truly lost now are you?

He’d learned a long time ago, that moss tended to grow on certain spots on trees in certain areas and the sun always rose and set in the same spots more or less. He continued to watch her as she sorted though the car, which was unyielding. Then she turned is question on him.

I’m from the southwest myself, traveled over the big lakes. I have been a wanderer most of my life, I must say I’m ready to settle down now myself though.

He watched as she continued to look around, not feeling nervous that she would come up and eat him, he doubted bears ate wolves.

Are you looking for something?

He asked a curious tone in his voice, as his eyes moved over Malachi, watching her sniffing around kind of made his own stomach rumble, it’d been a while since he himself had eaten, though he was not going hunting and leaving her here still unsure about both wood and city.

Sorry that this post is short x_x;

The big beast had to stop what she was doing momentarily, to turn her head towards the male at the mention of moss growing in the direction where civilization was. Her ears twitched in thought, as she stood there staring at him, or rather.. staring past him in thought. A part of her remembered her father talking about that. He was such a great hunter and tracker. This made Malachi smile, and blink to bring her world back into focus. All she did was nod at the Luperci, and look back into the window. It was slightly cracked.. but if there was food in there, she'd find a way in.
She pushed against the back of the car in order to bring herself off of it, hearing as the car squeaked with the front part of her weight now off of the vehicle. What was this thing? She decided to lumber over to the side of it, and began to paw at the moss and other vegetation that blocked the door and part of the passenger window. "I’m from the southwest myself, traveled over the big lakes." The creature heard these words and she turned her attention back to the male. Southwest? He had traveled a long way too, then, just like her. Then he heard him question her search, and she shrugged her massive shoulders.

"I'm pretty hungry, actually. Though near wintertime I'm always the hungriest, and I don't know why.." Her voice trailed off, as she put one paw on the car door and took a peek inside the window there. Nope, nothing but some old leather. Looks like someone must have gotten there before her. "Nothing here, though," she said, shaking her head as she looked out onto the horizon of the city. "Doesn't look like there would be anything that way, either, huh?"

OOC: If you want we can end this pretty soon

She seemed a bit preoccupied though she was listening, he wasn’t sure if what he said came to her or not, but he hoped it did. He didn’t want a scared bear running around especially with him in the vicinity. He watched as she moved around the old car trying to see if there was a way in it. He felt bad he doubted she wanted anything that was inside that old thing. He doubted it’d ever been opened since it’s last occupier left it.

Well tell me what you like best, I think we can scrounge something up.

He looked at the overbaring city and her question stuck to him. He doubted much of anything lived in there except for weeds and vines and what not, maybe someday when it was entirely taken over… but not today. He shook his head at her question.

I doubt that it has anything at all really. I’m sure we’ll find something better in the forest.

Shawchert said as he turned his back on the city, he wasn’t ready to go in there quite yet. It felt too soon.

Works for me, so here's my last post. Big Grin. -throws confetti- First thread finished for me at 'Souls!

The big creature had given up on the vehicle, once deciding there was nothing in it of interest. She sat down momentarily and scratched her belly, which was protruding more with the colder months ahead. Malachi never did understand why wolves like her never had huge urges to scratch their belly - Luperci sometimes did, though. But never the urge to push oneself against a tree and get those hard to reach spots.

"Well tell me what you like best, I think we can scrounge something up," she heard. Did he mean.. they'd go hunting together? Her large, honey eyed moved over to his face, as if trying to figure him out. This may have been strange to Shawchert, but to her it nearly meant the world. Her excitement tingled in her nose, then traveled down to each of her toes, begging for her to stand up. And stand on all fours she did, the rest of her body following suit. She looked up into the sky, and found it was already growing into the late afternoon.

"Oh, you know," she began with a playful tone, as she took a couple steps towards the forest, back where she had come originally. "The same old stuff. Moose is always good, but, oh.. we'd need at least six of us to even try," she stopped for a moment as she began to count her claws, thinking of a great moose hunt. "Or fish, or berries, or.." Malachi had to stop, she already felt her mouth beginning to water just thinking about it. "But us two, I think we can bring down something!" She quickly turned behind her, and realized she was already a good few paces away from the male. She made a quick call, which may have sounded scary to anyone who didn't recognize it otherwise.

"You coming or what?"

OOC here!

Malachi’s comments made Shaw raise his eyebrows, but he was not going to question a hungry bear, the animal was now a few feet ahead of him as he was thinking dumbfounded… did bears really eat moose? But he let that slide as they moved now side by side into the foresee to find something good to eat. As assuredly as he was, they were able to down a young doe and feast off of that, and sadly as the day came to a close Shawchert had to say goodbye, which he did and left, feeling this had been the strangest, yet most interesting day he’d had in his whole life. He’d remember this day forever.
