Shaw

New adventures for a new day. Alder looked through the tinted forest, its color dulled and the sun shown through the empty spaces that the bare branches left. He wondered what made them fall off, all those leaves. They crunched under his large paws, speaking to him in a language that might have been the tweeting of the migrating flocks of song birds. But those whistles were become more clear to his young ears, and he looked to them with a small understanding. It was not like he could tell what they were saying, but it did not feel like a foreign language spoke by aliens any longer.

The masked boy moved along north of the lake he had ventured to that morning. He was comfortable there, having spent many days along the shore. He had played there with others and alone, and he felt it like an extension of the Manor’s front lawn. But now his mind and imagination drew him through the trees, pretending that he was one of the horses he had met in his short life. The wolf was growing each day, and he was taller then most of those a few months older then he and rounder then both his brothers. His ears were still too big for his head, his paws round and his legs as thick as they would be when full grown. But he was an impressive sight for just shy of his fifth month.

Black nose shuffled in the dead leaves, pretending to look for grass among the forest ground. Despite his size his mind was still immature, his personality still small and timid. Big ears turned behind him, an imaginary noise startling the prey he was pretending to be and he ran with a small skip and a smile on his face as he knew that what might stalk him could never catch him.

(3 Points) OOC: :3

Shawchert’s day was going rather well, he thought at least. He had let his feet move wherever they pleased, though he was also in hopes of finding another pack, he knew there were numerous packs all over, he’d been learning where most of them were, he knew where a few were like AniWaya, and Inferni, and he’d also been inside of Cour des Miracles, and checked out Dahlia. He thought he was making good progress, though he’d yet to meet any of the leaders, he was planning to, he had been working on surprise presents, in hopes that they would all be friends in the long run. He had a hard time believing that Inferni would be so welcoming as the other packs. But that was beside the point.

He was playing his flute as he moved, though he saw the large pup before he knew he was nearing the borders of another pack he’d yet come across, the pup was acting it seemed and he stopped his flute before he really came to earshot, he wanted to watch the pup, and could tell he was acting like another animal. Soon he could tell as the boy pranced about that he was pretending to be a horse. He figured though that it would be about time he made his presense known before he was spotted and scared the pup off, he first shifted to his rarely seen wolf form, he was still hulking, but he knew it was less frightening to pups.

Hello there, my good neighboring steed,

He called, he’d not crossed the border he wanted to make sure the pup was feeling safe, but he was interested in getting to know him. He looked six of seven mnths of age, big boned, but he wanted to know what went inside the little head of his as he pretended. It was a sign of actual performances, but in no way was he going to take the child from where he belonged. He sat on his elbows hoping the pup knew that Shawchert was using the act of submission, something saying he was harmless and much less a rank than the pup, here he really was as he didn’t belong to this pack.

Nothing could catch him. He was too smart for that, and he was too too fast. He swayed his head back and forth and he could feel the mane that he pretended to have hit the sides of his neck, and he snorted with defiance as he scampered through the fallen leaves. His ears seemed to pick up a new sound, but it was something he wasn’t sure if he was actually hearing or if it was something that his imagination was simply making up. It was like the call of a bird, but not the tweeting and the interrupted calls that he had known but a long solid song.

Alder paused in his step, for the bird’s song had ended and he was wondering what kind of bird could make such a sound. But it was the scent of a stranger that made him look up with wide blue eyes. He knew what to look for when searching another canine, he knew that he needed to seek out the familiar and comforting smell of his mother and brother. But this male (which he understood by his scent as well as his size) was not of the Dreaming pack. He was certainly a stranger. Alder felt his ears fold against his head, the tone of the unknown male coming to him and calling him a steed.

He had seen him?! Alder looked away, but only for a moment. His blue eyes came back to the other wolf and he wondered what he had thought of it. The notion of defined lines were not yet embedded in his mind and Alder still believed that he was well within the pack’s lands. So this male was likely wandering into his home. But it was defensiveness that came to him, but a weary curiosity Hello. He spoke without a smile. The wolf was large and even when he was in a position that shouldn’t have been seemingly submission Alder felt uneasy.

Please don’t be afraid, I won’t hurt, I won’t even get any closer if you don’t wish me to. I just happened to see you prancing, you’re an actor?

He said, his voice sounded of interest and curiosity, he was never really around pups himself, but he still loved them and knew some of what made them feel more comfortable, he first didn’t want the pup to dash away as that was exactly what it looked like he was about to do. He moved his satchel around so he could be a little comfortable as he sat.

My name is Shawchert Menue, I’m from a new pack not too far from here.

He said calmly. He watched the pup for any sudden movements. He wasn’t going to stop him from running, he’d be sad if he did, but he wanted to make sure that he wasn’t making the pup too uncomfortable.

Strangers were not something that Alder saw often. Mother had told him what to do, and to not be afraid but to be cautious. He was to stay in his lands and there would be no problem. He knew that his brothers had venture out of the territory, or so he had heard whispers, but he was too afraid. He had been out with Haven, but his big brother was a knight, and braver then brave and able to protect against things as big as dragons. This new wolf was nothing that Alder should be afraid of, but he knew that to be weary was to be safer then if he was outgoing. But his mother had told him one thing above all, be polite.

His ears fell slightly, as the male spoke of his pretend game. The youth shook his head, he didn’t know what an actor was. It was pretend, a game I play. He didn’t know why he told the stranger and yet the words just came. He need to learn more control then that.

He remembered his manners, I’m Adler, this is Crimson Dream’s lands. My Mother is the second in command here, her name is Anu. He spoke with the formality of practice. If you are friendly, you are welcome here. He gave, the words his mother had spoken rolling through his mind and off his tongue. He wondered if this male knew his momma, he couldn’t comprehend how large the world might be and that some might not know his silver and tan dame.

He could tell the puppy was quite at a standstill, and though he seemed amazed at seeing the large wolf, he was also doing what his pack had taught him, be wary, which Shawchert found very fulfilling in a pack life.

Oh? Well I can tell you a secret. Your pretend, it is also acting… actors entertain other wolves to make them smile and laugh.

Shawchert smiled, he was proud to say he had the makings of such things in the members. He would even be a pretty good actor, but it seemed the puppy was a natural at it, though in no way did Shawchert had any mind to take Alder from his home. He could tell that the puppy was quite shy about his talent, and it made Shawchert feel bad, talent like that should never ever be wasted.

You should be proud of your skills to pretend to be an animal, it’s a great thing to share, things like that too.

He said, he doubted it would make the boy any more comfortable, but he thought he’d have to try, at the pups’ introduction Shawchert gave a broad smile, a tower named boy, it seemed fitting for him though, not that the puppy looked like one but he seemed sturdy like a tower.

Well it is great to meet you, do you think you can show me what else you can pretend to be?

He asked, wondering if the boy would do it or not, he was shy, but Shaw wanted to play by what the boy seemed to like, and though he was embarrassed he seemed to have liked doing that when he thought Shaw wasn’t there. If the boy didn’t want to, Shaw wouldn’t have been too disappointed, though he’d find something else the young pup might like.

Alder wished he knew exactly what to do with the stranger, even though his mother had told him distinctly what was to be done if he found one. There was always the option to call for her, but Alder knew that his brothers wouldn’t. They were always braver then Alder, especially Cypress. The masked boy could see it in his eyes when they played, he wasn’t impressed by anything Alder did and the timid boy was beginning to wish that he was approved by the his brother. Maybe it was just his insecurities. But the big, big wolf spoke in a soft tone, giving the pup nothing to really worry about beyond his own inner voice piping about the unknown.

He spoke of a secret, ears pointed forward and listening intently. An actor? The smile on the other wolf’s face making one of his own want to creep upon his features. Really? He questioned in his head and felt his tail wag slightly. There didn’t seem to be anything wrong with being an actor, the adult seemed to find it to be a good trait rather then just something childish.

Really? he asked as the red painted male spoke again. He should be proud? Alder could hardly imagine being proud of himself for anything. His heart fluttered lightly, another new feeling and he wasn’t sure what exactly he was feeling. white paws stepped a bit closer, feeling more at ease with his stranger Shawcert.

Alder smiled wide, he always had ideas for pretend but he hadn’t ever had a request like this! It took him a moment, but the quiet male finally spoke a drawn out, Sure. Tail waving behind him. He turned away from the tall wolf, gathering himself and then turned quickly once his mind was set. Alder bent his knees, lips drawn back and his shook his head and neck wide and even felt the mane his imagined fly across his neck and back. Lips snarled, a roar rumbling off them as he gnashed his jaws.

+3 OOC: I hope i got the animal right that would be so embarrassing Tongue

The young pup was easing up more now, which made Shawchert happy, he wasn’t as rusty as he thought he’d been, he had never been so great with puppies, but he did love them, and loved their innocence . as well as curiosity. The boy was quite entertained by his secret, which wasn’t much of one, but for now it would be one to the puppy. He’d grow up and learn about it soon enough Shaw knew.

Yes really, I know of a few adults who act, I can act too. It’s all how you see it my young friend. Acting is quite fun when you have an audience too, to see them gasp, laugh cry, whatever you want them to do.

He chuckled. He heard the boy agree to his request, it seemed to brighten him up a bit. That made Shaw feel a bit more proud that he could help the boy loosen up, though from the looks of it Alder had stage fright, he watched as the boy moved around for a second and then gave a great puppy roar, he’d never seen the animal but he had a feeling he knew what it was. Hopefully he did not get it wrong and make the puppy feel like he couldn’t act very well at all. It was the best that Shaw could do in any case.

Is that a lion I see?

Shaw asked pretending to be afraid, and it was a funny sight to see someone so big as he was for feign fear. Though he was trying to make the boy laugh in any case. In hopes that if he did get it wrong the boy would skip over that and just see how funny Shaw looked. He was good at keeping people off of the bad and look towards the good of things. He was an optimist, he couldn’t help sharing it.

perfection! i should have mentioned it, so sorry!

He had no idea that adults did such a thing! Acting, as his new friend explained, was just like playing pretend. Something that adults did, was something Alder really liked to do. He thought about it for a moment, brows notched and his lips pouted slightly as he was deep in thought. Of course he would have to ask his mother about it, and instantly he wondered if she would approve. Anu was not the type to judge her son, but he yearned for her approval even though it was something that was not rare at the least. She praised him often and gave plenty of support for what ever he did and yet he looked to her again and again for reassurance.

As he roared and growled and swiped his claw filled paws Alder fell into the roll of the maned lion as if he had been born as one. He loved to dream of and play like other animals, he loved to hear stories about them and to see them in person. It was slightly upsetting that he couldn't speak to them, and that those words he chose so meticulously could not be heard by birds and the small creatures that hid from him. So he found that pretending to be them held him hear what they had to say.

When Shawchert spoke the single name of the creature he was pretending to be Alder smiled brightly at him. Nodding his head quickly, Thats it! his words came with excitement. Alder was slightly out of breath as he padded up closely to the now not so strange male and he felt as comfortable with him as he might with any of his pack members. Do you act too?

OOC: omg… imagine my brute actually doing this…. I’m rolling on the floor right now HAHAHAHAHAHA

He smiled when he saw the boy was finally lightening up around him. Shaw was never one that wanted to hurt others so he took pride in himself when someone felt comfortable around him almost right away, and it seemed that puppies took better to him than adults. At least that was the impression he was getting with the pup himself. He was so glad that he got the animal right but didn’t show his relief but the boy’s excited happiness.

I do not think I’m as good as you are my friend, I’m more of a musician myself. But if you want I can do something.

he said, but he made no move to do it quite yet, he needed to figure out what he wanted. The thing he thought of would mean he’d have to change into his luperci form, so he held up a finger and turned, normally he’d find shelter away from eyes, but this was a pup, and he wasn’t about to leave him alone. Soon Shaw was at his full height, and then bent down, scratching one hand under an armpit and the other on his head, making a noise like a wounded animal, but he’d only heard the call of a monkey a few times and all of them were made by wolves doing a similar imitation.

When he was grown the Dreaming pup would be about the size of the massive Cercatorian. He was tall already, legs long and paws round and wide. Later in life he would fill out, heavy and shoulders and arms and his coat would no longer be the smooth new fur that he wore now. His ruff would be like the mane of a lion, shaggy but a mix of lights and darks. But he didn’t know what one day he would be the biggest of his litter, nor did he feel as if he was the biggest already.

Shawchert smiled, and it made the Dreamer smile too. His compliment made Alder’s heart skip slightly and he felt the warmth of a blush come to his face. No one had thought that he was good at this, no one ever really noticed other then Parker. He nodded, hoping that the adult would show him something. Music was not really known to the pup, his mother was not talented in such a way and he had not been around many others.

Alder took a step back, his eyes widening at the sight of the other wolf beginning to change. It was not something he had seen too many times before, and he felt it something private. His mother had done so, but that was his mom and not someone that he had just met. Alder averted his eyes in respect, glancing only when curiosity got the better of him. A small quiet piece of him wished for the day when he could do that too.

Blue eyes looked up, in awe at the tall (tall, talllll) wolf before him. Alder was forced on his rump as he looked upwards and he watched at the wolf turned into something else entirely. The noises made him smile, the antics and movements made his tail come alive and wag slightly. His teeth came into view as he laughed. It was the funniest thing that Alder had ever seen, he didn’t know why it was so funny but it was and he had to close his eyes because his laughter was becoming quickly and he giggled again and again.

He laughed until it was almost too much for him, and he pressed his paw against his tummy after it started to hurt. Enough, his head said, eye lids breaking to see the wolf continuing with his act. No, he couldn’t take any more.

I dono, He said breathlessly, I dono what that is.

The boy’s laughter was contagious, he could imagine how silly he looked doing this imitation but he did it for a little while longer before the boy spoke saying he didn’t know what it was… well not everyone could be an actor or the puppy didn’t know much about monkeys either way Shaw stopped and knelt down still laughing himself.

that my fine puppy friend, would be a monkey, from what I hear, they look a lot like the humans did.

He said, he’d never seen one himself, in fact he wasn’t sure if they were real or a legend, but he’d been show in books what monkeys looked like, and they did look an aweful lot like the humans that were long gone. He wasn’t unhappy that the puppy didn’t know in fact he was happy especially the laughter that had come from the large boy’s mouth.

Pretty funny though huh?

He asked a huge grin on his face, he had made it so Alder would loosen up a little bit and at least be comfortable around him, it seemed that he was quite the shy pup and very introverted… he could see that the pup had been much like Shawchert, though Shaw had no choice as he was below the Omega status when he was a puppy so he got no treatment what so ever, though he had his mother… but he could tell the puppy had friends and family, he was just one of those wolves who cared more about being alone in a quiet place, but there was nothing to say they didn’t like a little entertainment now and then.

The pup had never really seen a picture of a monkey and so when Shawchert had quelled his laughter enough to tell him, Alder was still a bit confused. He had seen plenty of pictures of animals, but he didn’t know all their names yet for he was only just beginning to learn to read. But his mother had told him of the humans, who had died so long ago that even his momma had never seen one. Alder nodded, smiling still at the large wolf. He wasn’t scary any more, the intimidation freed from the Dreaming youngsters mind.

I’ve seen pictures of humans. he said mater-of-factly with pride shinning through ever so slightly. Alder was sure, now that he had said the words, that everyone had seen picture of humans. His ears fell slightly at the thought but then perked as Shawchert spoke once more, and Alder gave a nod. His smile returned, Yeah, you’re a good actor! Alder proclaimed, the large odd looking pup let his tail wag with the excitement that had come over him many moments before.

OOC: I’m at a loss here ; ; /cry

Shawchert was glad the boy at least had seen a human, he would have a heck of a time trying to describe what a monkey looked like.

well imagine them with the same flat weird looking face, except with much more hairier. Some didn’t have tails either.

He said, though he only knew from those photo’s he’d love to see a real monkey someday. It would be an interesting day, that was for sure. He knew that he would not find a monkey in this area even if he asked for one… he gave the puppy a smile, happy that he was now out of his shell, and talking to Shaw.

Well thank you, I’ve always been more of a musician myself actually, so acting has never been a big part of my life, but I really appreciate that!

He said, kneeling down so that alder could look at Shaw without having to look up too high.

sorry for the wait!

He could hardly imagine what a monkey might look like, piecing the picture together with the information that the large Shaw gave him brought quite the interesting picture to his puppy mind. It was odd, so odd that Alder couldn't believe that there was a creature out there that looked like that. He smiled and giggled again as his imagination ran with the ideas. Though the oddest of it all was the lack of tail. He figured just about everything had a tail.

Alder didn't know much of music, there were not too many that had exposed him to the notes and tunes that could be played. He hadn't even heard any beast sing beside a bird. But he liked the songs of little fowl, even the larger caws of crows made him smile and wonder what it was the sang about. Do you sing? He asked, bright eyes and looking upwards slightly at the kneeling male. Maybe he would sing for Alder, like a bird.

WC: 239 OOC: Didn’t have much time to post, but I kinda likes it though it is short ^^

Shawchert smiled at the boy’s inquiry. He could not sing though, not vocally, and this is what Shaw thought, though, there was another way of “singing” not with his own voice but with the flute he had in his pouch. He got himself comfortable by sitting down Indian style, and pulling out of his bag, the wooden flute he had previously used before seeing the puppy.

I cannot sing with my voice. But I certainly can sing with this. It is called a flute, and if I put my mouth here and blow it will make a pretty noise.

He pointed to the mouthpiece as he explained, and then he put the mouthpiece to his mouth and gave a very tasteful blow, letting the chord slip through the holes, he then moved his fingers in position. Thinking of a good tune, Shawchert decided on a nice and happy one, one that had actually made him think of the horse that Alder was pretending to be. he then blew on the flute again, but in succession this time. His fingers moved with the flow of his own music. It was as though he did not have to think where to place his fingers to make the right sounds, they just came together that way, and in no time he was playing the lively music of a colt in play. At least his version of what he thought it would be.

oooo, i have an idea!! Alder will need a small flute/whistle, maybe Shaw could make it for him?

Alder was eager to know the answer to his question, but as he had been taught he waited with a patience that many adults did not know. The big Cercatori male moved around a bit, repositioning himself on the ground and then took out a long instrument from his satchel. Blue eyes watched intently, and his ears listened to the words that Shawchert spoke. Alder followed his fingers, looking at the mouthpiece and waited as he brought it back to his mouth. Alder could see his chest rise and then as it fell the sound of the flute made him gasp in surprise.

The sounds that came forth instantly reminded him of the songs that birds gave. It was different in a small way, but still too close for Adler to think that this was a way to speak to them as he had tried to do so many times before. His tail waved as he listened, like the story Element the cat had told him this was just as wonderful and entertaining.

When it ended he shifted in his seat, trying to find the words that would describe what he wished to say. That’s beautiful. He spoke in a hushed and in awe tone. Its like a bird. He commented again, looking up at the male once more, blue eyes round and wide.

WC: 205 OOC: I think his dialog can answer your question !! <3

Shawchert could see the face brighten with delight as he started to play his tune, and he played for a short while, knowing how their minds always switched to one thing or another. He was happy to meet such a wonderful pup, and wished he could tell his mother that, though he wasn’t sure where she was or how happy she’d be to see him.

I’m glad you like it, and yes it really does sound a lot like a bird, I tell you what, I can make them, if you want I can make you a flute too. It will take me a little while, so I won’t see you until then, but if you want one let me know!!

He said excited that he may have had a potential flute player, even if it was outside the pack. He cared little about that, but if someone was interested in learning, he was interested in teaching.

So you want to sound like a bird?

He asked grinning, wondering what the boy would say to the offer he’d given him. It was not too much for Shawchert, he was working with wood every day. It would do him good to do something for somebody else.

yayy!! wrap this up?

The masked boy hadn't thought that he was very good at much, until Shawchert had come to comment on his pretend play. Of course he wanted to have many things that he was good at, not just pretending to be a horse as he liked to do on many days. The big male was very good at being a musician, and that was something a bit more complicated then just prancing around with thoughts of grazing and hooves in his head. But the other wolf's offer was one that made him pause and wonder. Could he do something like this too?

Of course it would take the nimble fingers of his Optime form, and that change scared Alder greatly. But maybe he would look past it for the moment, and dream about a picture of himself that was so very different then what he was now. Someone that made music like a bird, and spoke to them through the never notes that they carried. The round bottomed pup's eyes glazed over momentarily with that fantasy.

At the deep voice's question Alder cleared his thoughts enough to nod his head. It would work out, he was sure of it. He could learn this just as he did to read. It wasn't going to be easy, but he wished to sing like a bird. Yes, please. He said with eagerness. I really do.

WC: 195 OOC: We can end it!!! And we can start a new one as shaw is bound to have it all finished, as long as it’s after today of course cause the past 3 days for poor shaw have been…. Rather shaky Wink

His request came with a little thinking on the boy’s part, but that made Shaw happy, he didn’t leap for the chance for his work just for the sake of it, it seemed he was thinking of what he could possibly do with such a thing and if he would be able to do it. Finally though he got the answer, and it was one he was hoping for. This made Shawchert a very happy wolf.

That’s great, then I will just have to get started as soon as possible my young friend I thank you for playing with me, it was very fun and I will see you soon enough with your new flute.

He said, though he didn’t know exactly when he would actually get the boy’s flute done. He knew he would though as he had promised, it wouldn’t be more than a few months of course… He gave the boy a big happy smile, hoping that he had made some difference in the boys life and he started playing his flute once more, turned and walked the other direction, towards home and towards helping out the future of a young boy.
