It had been a few weeks since the young Stormbringer had offered his services as hunter for the Japanese woman who knew almost nothing about living on her own. He had arrived at her door with two rabbits dangling from his hand and an apology quick on his lips for the disasterous end to the last meeting they'd had. Still, the meeting had gone alright to him and now he spent at least three times a week delivering her small amounts of food. She had said that she did not have a large appetite and his hunting skills were rather limited so usually she ended up with one or two freshly caught rabbits. He wanted to know how to expand his hunting skills but between helping out at Saluce's workshop and hunting for Tsukiko, he didnt really have a lot of free time. This meant that his mornings were sacrosanct to him and he would be mad if they were interupted.

Snow had fallen weeks ago and the young male was used to the white powder that was so fun to play in, yet so cold to the touch. He had risen that morning with his breath white in billowing clouds over him. His morning bath had been very short, a quick dip in the freezing water before he returned back to the house. He had modified his routine to compensate for the fact that it was freezing and instead of going straight into his run he returned home to dry himself off before making his usual track towards the beach and back through the high street. He enjoyed many of the run he took around Dahlia, but this one was unbuilt. So when he entered the manor house with water just dripping off his flanks and he made his way up to his room, Saul was in no doubt where he was going.

A blanket served as a great towel and the young man shifted easily into his optime form. He had found a few pairs of cut offs a few weeks ago and usually wore them when in his two legged form. However, his mornings runs were almost always performed in his lupus form and he wasnt about to change that tradition. Once he had wiped himself down and he was relatively warm again, Saul set about returning his room to the way he liked it. Clothes hung perfectly in a battered wardrobe, dagger wrapped up in a cloth and in the trunk at the end of his bed where no one could reach it and finally his bed made with straight edges. He'd had to find a few more blankets to cover himself with in the night when winter had hit so his bed looked a little more bulky than usual. Once he was satisfied with his room, he shifted back and made his way out of the door, unaware that he had walked past Gideon's open door.

Big Grin Assuming there was still snow on the ground? WC:410

It was amazing to some how confusing a pup's mind was. For a tidbit of time, they get to enjoy the sweet world that seems so innocent growing up. For Range, this was especially true. He had no idea that Gideon was not his father and that his whole life had been based off of lies. It wasn't bad, of course. They had used these fibs to make the twisted world seem more simple, and it had worked so far.

This blamelessness was what had made Range follow Saul. It had been a game, hiding behind a bush here and there to make sure he was not caught. It wasn't considered stalking at his age. For stalking only happened when you were going to eat some thing, right? These kinds of thoughts helped him avoid the voice in the back of his head that said this was wrong. He could get away with so much more since he was young, but these get-free-passes would wear away as his age uped, along with his expectations. It is safe to assume that he was aware of this, but pushed the thoughts away quickly.

He had seen Saul undress. It hadn't been very awkward through his eyes, but everything on the body of the wolves he had met seemed so much more.. Well, private when they were in their werewolf form. He didn't dare to try to creep into the house when the male entered it; aware that he was not quite an expert at following others yet. Instead, he rolled around in the fluffy powder. When he ate it, it always dissolved in his mouth before he could taste it, getting replaced by good ol' Adam's ale. Little did the pup know the cold dried him out, so he should be drinking more actual water.

He creeped along silently, following in the white tummied adult's imprints. He was blending in pretty well after being covered with the snowy fleece. But as he suspected, it began to fade little by little; leaving him with a damp, heavy coat. The pup soon got a dash to into this 'game', making sound affects that he thought would make their adventure more interesting. Each time Saul stepped down; Range made loud crashing sounds. It wouldn't take very long for him to be discovered with his ample amount of noise, and when he was, the eyes of his uncle would be met by a sweet cub smile.

ooc;;awwwh he's so cute!!! <3

He hadnt fully begun his run yet, having only just walked out of the door to the manor he lived in with a multitude of other practically orphaned pups. He was beginning to understand why Nayru had left. When he'd first arrived here, there was never enough people in the manor for him to deal with. But as he became more serious about improving and learning new skills, he had found the house too crowded for his liking. He was hardly ever there and he imagined his room would go to someone who needed it. He hadnt seen Mia around lately and wanted to catch up with the brown and grey ball of energy. Range and Melee and been more active since they turned two months and were set loose on the unsuspecting members of Dahlia. Saul had had a nice day with Magnolia yesterday but it proved the Monroe bunch were also out and about. It made the young man seriously consider building his own house somewhere close by.

He had decided to make 'building a house' his subject of contemplation on his run today, but odd noises were coming from behind him. It seemed that with each paw that kissed the ground a crashing noise came from behind. Trained ears picked up a distinctly masculine note to the voice. Deducing that Gideon, Ascher and Conor's voices were all too deep to be that high and they were also not that immature, Saul worked out that it was likely his adopted nephew was following him. He had wanted to have a nice and peaceful run this morning, but the golden pup seemed to have a different plan for his day. And for a moment Saul was pissed off that his brothers children had ruined his day. But Saul was never a moody male and despite his wanted solitude this morning he couldnt help the smile that washed over his expression.

"What funny noises my steps are making... Maybe I should see whats making them?"

He spoke aloud, humouring Range and his game. With a chuckle, Saul jumped from paw to paw, trying to trick the young Soul male into slipping up. There was no way he could keep up with Saul's jumping motion and the crashing sounds he was making with his mouth. Maybe the young cream and chocolate male would give up and reveal himself in a giggling ball of laughs. If not, Saul would have to go and hunt him out and bring him on his morning run with him- he was sure his nephew would enjoy the beach.

The puppy continued trying to follow in Saul's foot steps. He was sure to let out a dramatic noise each time his uncle stepped down, compacting the snow and making a clear cut print, along with a sweet "Crunch!" sound. He became confused quickly as the Stormbringer fancied up his footwork, his clumsy feet briskly forgetting to follow in the impressions. "As if it wasn't difficult enough to follow in two leggys foot prints already..!"

He had to admit the game was more fun when the other player was actually aware they were apart of it. Range's interesting sound affects turned into 'teehees' and giggling. "You won, uncle!" He managed between giggles, trotting a little bit faster to catch up to him. "Wheres we ganna go now?" He added casually. Of course he was trying to insert the fact that he was coming along, turning to look up at the adult and give him an innocent smile.

Saul gave a soft chuckle as he glanced back and saw Range's confused expression. His fancy footwork in the snow had confused the boy and he had been unable to keep up his noisy game. Just as Saul had intended. A grin slipped over his lips and he stopped to let Range catch up with him. The young boy was growing quickly, as all kids did when they were exposed to fresh air. Cooped up in their daddies room for most of their short lives was no way to live and Saul was certain that both he and his sister were going to benefit from the freedom they had in Dahlia. Although they were not bilogoically his and from their last name Saul deduced they were in some way related to Conor, the young man felt a certain protectiveness of the boy and what he got up to. His cute little voice broke the silence and Saul pretended to consider all the places they could go.

"Wellll, I dont know about that! Who says you're coming with me?"

He teased, wondering how Range would take the joke. The previous day Maggie had been confused when Saul had told her that the frogs were hiding from her. Saul had known full well that there were no frogs around but he didnt want to be harsh on the young girl. So the euphamism had been in her best interests, but she hadnt quite understood it. Maybe the Soul boy would get that his uncle was teasing him. Stretching out his back for a moment, green eyes grazed over the light gold of his nephew's fur. The beach would be wonderful, even if it wasnt sunny and warm like the other times Saul had visited.

"What about the beach? But we had to be careful going through the woods- last time your Daddy and I got chased by a monster!"

He exclaimed, unsure whether Gideon had told his children this particular story. He smiled and went to move once more on the assumption that Range would follow him as he had done before. He was sure the bear was hibernating now, else he would not have taken his nephew through the woods. But there was no harm in winding the poor boy up, was there?

The pup smiled broadly, happy that his uncle had picked up on his hints. "I did, of course!" He said with a giggle, skipping along with a bit of swing in his step. He thought of Saul as his 'second' father, strong and brave like Gideon, but a bit younger looking. He didn't know either of their exact birth dates, but he never thought about it much.

"It catched you guise?!" His eyes grew large again, completely in awe of their bravery. It couldn't be true, they were unbreakable, weren't they? The cream coloured male hoped forward, realizing he had neglected to keep up while thinking. The puffy pile of snow flakes rushed out from under him as he landed, going up a few inches into the air then dancing back down. "Well, yous don't have to worry. I can take 'em!" He silently hoped that it would be a LITTLE monster, since he couldn't win a fight with anything larger then a loaf of bread..If that.

It was ironic that Saul had not been the most loving uncle to his adoptive niece and nephew when they had been too young to pick up on more exact moods from those around them. In his eyes they had taken his brother away from him and they had taken up all of his brothers time. But as he came to accept the two brown and cream puppies as family he had begun to resent them less. He could see how much his brother loved them and Saul had come to love them too. Over the short months he had been back Saul had allowed all his resentment to wash away and leave only the love for his family that he should have had in the first place. So his nephew's smile made him smile also, tail flickering softly behind him.

"Ahh, the almighty powerful Range hath spoken! Bow before thee"

Saul teased, dropping down on his front paws in the most classical play position, bowing before his nephew. Pink tongue flipping forward to hit his nephew in the face with a kiss. A chuckle rumbled his stomach and Saul straightened up once more as Range's awed wprds reached him. Saul considered joking around with the brown and cream boy, showing him an old scar and telling him that it was the monsters mark. But he didnt want to wind the boy up too much so as he caught up once more Saul laughed softly. He was now enjoying his nephew's presence and a light smile played on his lips almost constantly.

"Of course it didn't- your Daddy and I escaped before it could slit our throats with its giant claws..."

His voice had dropped for a dramatic effect and he smiled down at his nephew. They were nearing the woods now and Saul puffed out his chest, bristling his fur to make himself look bigger than he actually was. It seemed Range had the same idea and his brave words made Saul glance down at the boy once more. He was usually the quiet one in the pair of Soul's but on his own Range appeared much more outgoing. Perhaps it was Melee's dominating presence that made the little guy more subdued.

"I'll let you lead the way then, shall I?"

He asked, stopping and allowing his nephew to take the lead. Despite the game he was making it, Saul cast a wary eye around the forest as the entered. He was fairly certain bears hibernated in the winter and the bear Gideon and he had run into would be asleep by now. But he could never be too cautious about these things, especially with his brothers kid in tow.

Range erupted in giggles once more, assuming that what his uncle said was a good thing. He let out a small yip of agreement, licking back after feeling the coarseness of the man's tongue. "Of course!" The pup turned his head and eyed the toy that danced behind his uncle as they walked. After staring it down for a second the pup made his move. With sloppy legwork, the pup pounced at the tail. He pawed and nipped at it, now walking behind his uncle.

The pup made a sudden dash forward, darting between his uncle's legs turning to face him. "Oh! How come I hasn't heard this story before?" He circled around his legs, bumping into them occasionally and beaming up at Saul with his two different coloured eyes. He stopped circling to look at the forest, eying the overgrown trees and bushes that casted shadows onto the trail. He took a few wary steps into it, scanning the woods for signs of the beast. Once he had made sure that it was all clear, the pup stepped back and motioned for his uncle to go first. "Yes, you shall!" Range said. Enjoying the taste of his uncle's words slipping past his own lips.

Hearing the boys giggles was something of a tonic to the young mans ears. He hadn't been this young in a long time and, thinking back on it, Saul doubted he had ever been this young. Of course, he had been two months of age before, but Melee and Range, to their knowledge, had lived sheltered lives and they were immature because of it. As long as Saul could remember there had always been something going on that he had to understand, had to be alert and aware for. Even if it wasnt for himself, he had to be aware for his brother and sister. Though Gideon had remained in Dahlia for almost all his life, Saul and his other siblings had been forced to take the journey back to the Stormbringer pack. If the storm hadn't hit, they probably would all be there together now. But he'd grown up fast when he'd been plunged into a world alone and no-one to care for him. His neice and nephew, by comparison, had life easy.

Saul allowed a soft laugh to escape him as Range pounced towards his tail. The young man wasn't going to make it easy for his nephew and made sure his tail ran circles around the boy. Excited giggles could be heard from behin him and the young man made a note to try and bottle the happiness coming from the brown and cream boy. He would grow up soon and the giggles that came from him would soon turn to manly chuckles and then maybe nothing at all. Saul wanted his nephew to know what he had been like when he was younger, as the timber boy wished he could go back and see himself at that age. The nimble little boy snaked between his legs and came to a stop in front of Saul's face, a demanding question on his lips.

"What, did Daddy not tell you this one?"

Saul offered with a shocked expression on his face. It was fake, for Saul knew that at some point Gideon would tell his children the short story of their adventure to the beach. Therefore Saul would not tell the boy what happened and wait for his dark brother to tell them instead. Still, Saul wondered why his younger brother had not told it soon. Maybe he was scared the two would want to look for the beast they had narrowly escaped. It would be a good enough reason of course, but that was certainly paranoid parenting for you. Green eyes danced as his nephew came out from between his legs, mismatched eyes casting wary looks around the forest. Once he was sure there was nothing there, he stepped aside for Saul to take the lead.

"Onward, Captain Range! We shall see no beasts today with ye on guard!"

Saul played with his young nephew, a chuckle escaping him as he returned the lick the boy had given him earlier. Pushing the boy forward with a small shove of his head, they set off into the forest with wary caution that history would repeat itself.

The pup shook his head back and forth upon hearing his Uncle's question. "Nope! I do like stories, though." He took a few steps deeper into the forest, his ears perked for any sound of life. He grabbed a piece of long grass that was growing a few inches away, chewing on it and enjoying the quiet sound of crunching each time he bit down into it. There was a lot of reasons he had picked up the habit. Other then the funny sound effects, the grass also presented the pup with a bit of moisture it had locked inside of it's green body.

The fake shocked expression on Saul's face amused him. And within minutes, he was seeing what odd facial expressions he could make. The only thing that really stood out was his eyes, he could squint them and make every thing all blurry, or he could open them wideeee and take in more of the world around him. He liked to be able to observe more, but his eyes seemed to dry out quicker. In addition to that, he still had to blink. So if he thought he had seen some thing interesting in the distance, he might blink and not be able to find it again. With his wild imagination it was no surprise that he would close his eyes for a split second and it would be gone; because it probably wouldn't have really been there in the first place. But playing this game made the journey a bit more interesting any ways.

"Well, we might still see them.." He did a sort of eye roll and broke out into giggles again. "But I can get them! Nibbles theys ears off and eat their feeties!"

Green eyes had missed the little guys head shake by only a fraction as he had looked away from his nephew to scan the treeline. He was pretty certain the bears were all asleep but he wasnt going to risk them being attacked by anything, let alone a bear. Too keep the vigil going he would look at Range for a moment moments before scanning the treeline they walked through and then back at the chocolate and cream boy. However he caught the boys words and gave a smile in his nephew's direction. He wasnt going to tell it, in case there was anything in there that Gideon didnt want his son to hear. So instead he looked smug and shook his head right back at the little boy.

"Well I'm not allowed to tell you..."

Saul whined, but couldnt help the curve of his lips that threatened to break out into a smile. Green eyes watched as his nephew began to pull funny faces and the Stormbringer male began to pull them back. Pulling his ears right forward Saul hooded his eyes and stuck out his bottom jaw into an underbite and chuckled softly at his nephew. He then cocked his right ear to the side and crossed his eyes to look at the tip of his nose, then stuck his tongue out in a retarded pose. It hurt his eyes to do it for too long but by that point Range was blinking from having opened his eyes too wide for too long. Range spoke once more, sure that they were going to see the monsters. He was about to tell his nephew that he might be right and that he should be on his guard when the young boy threatened to hurt them- in the only way pups knew how.

"They'll run from the monster I have by my side- Range Soul, protector of Dahlia."

Saul offered by way of praise to Range's bravado. However they didnt have to worry for long- Saul could feel the ground becoming more gritty beneath his paws and in a few places the mud was weaker. A grin crept across his lips as he pushed his foehead against his nephew's rump, urging the boy to move faster. They were almost at the beach now- the Stormbringer could smell the salty air and just about hear the waves crashing against the sand. A mischievious smile curved his lips as he looked at Range.

"We're almost there Range... I'll race you to the beach."

And just like that they were replaying what Saul and Gideon had done those months ago. Saul waited for a few moments before breaking into a short jog, knowing he could win easily but also knowing he should allow his nephew to run like the wind so that he won.

Sorry for the length. But it should help make up for all my short posts in this thread- Hope it isn't to horrible of a read.. >> WC:738

"Oh..Yes huh! Wes just don't tell Daddy." The pups face took up a devious expression, but he was in no way serious. Gideon seemed to always have a way of figuring out every thing. Even if he didn't hear it with his own two ears. "I has to know more about the monsta. So I can get him.." His urging words were followed by a nod of his over sized head. The feature looked a bit odd on him at this age, but later on he hoped he would grow in to it. Range's eyes were about as large as flying saucers by the time his Uncle began pulling his second funky expression. Out of habit the boy tried to copy him- but with the little muscle memory he had in his young face it was proving really difficult. In a few years these things would be much easier to do.. Seeing all the things that he couldn't yet achieve made him eager to grow up. Though he didn't yet realize it, in a few years he will probably miss this. Most pups don't even realize how much they can get away with until the get free passes are actually ripped right out of their young paws. But contrary to popular belief, every one has to grow up some time. "You bet ya'!" He said with a giggle, nipping as his uncle's heel to demonstrate his skill.

The dark sand-coloured Soul stumbled forward a few steps upon feeling himself being nudged. He watched as Saul took off, and after taking a few more clumsy steps, the pup was off himself. The two seemed to have the same idea. Though it's not some thing you would expect from a young wolf such as himself, he was not very competitive. When he was in his earlier months he had noticed how much others enjoyed winning; whether it just be in a race or some thing more important. So the majority of the time, he let them have it. This way of thinking could ultimately hurt him later on in life. A lot of other creatures, even his fellow wolves, would take advantage of such courtesy. His conscience told him that it was worth the risk, but some thing else inside him whispered that it would do more harm then good. In the end, a happy-medium would probably be best. Nevertheless.. The pup made a silent vow to try to take the more generous option at all times. No matter if it hurt him in some way. But in this ONE case he figured it would just be best to give in to what the adult was suggesting by his slow jog.

After not jumping on the opportunity right away he had to try quite hard to catch up anyways. And following his few steps in front of the male the boy felt a change in texture on his paw pads. They were very useful a lot of times, especially now. They helped to let him take in the full effect of the beautiful scenery that surrounded him. His small black nose picked up the salty scent of the body of water that sat before him. This told him it probably was not pure.. So it wouldn't really be suitable for drinking. This sun shined directly down on the sand, causing the small pebbles that caught a glint of it to shine proudly. He nudged his nose at the sand, smelling the few animals that had previously walked here. The creatures had probably kicked up the sand to other areas when their paws were trying to get a good grip on solid ground- but the pup still got a little whiff here and there; which was good enough for him.

When he lifted his head again a bit of sand sand stuck to his nose because of the moisture it carried. He blew out and licked at his nose, shaking his head frantically to rid of the nagging particles. It was then that he found a small pile of snow that the sun had not yet melted, and immediately ran over to it. Without giving it much thought he shoved his entire muzzle into it. After jamming it as far as he could into the snow pile, he turned his head to face his uncle. The burning itching feeling had been removed, but now his face was a bit cold.

ooc;; sorry for the wait dear!

His nephew's voice still rang in his ears but he had already begun to run now. What Range had said was not terribly important so the young Stormbringer male let it slide for now. He seemed to be considering something as they both took off and after a few heartbeats Saul was far ahead of him. He slowed immediately, a small smile gracing his lips when his nephew realised the gap was too big. He picked up speed and overtook Saul which was what he had wanted in the first place. With Range ahead of him he could watch for any danger both in front and behind and his nephew would be guarded if anything were to come out and get them. The ground had almost entirely shifted to sand and his lolloping gait turned sluggish. In the end he came to a stop, watching Range sniff the sand.

He eyes widened in delight as his nephew caught sand particles on the end of his nose. Saul had learnt early not to stick his nose too close to the sand so as not to irritate himself. If it happened he usually just licked away the sand but Range had better ideas. Glancing over to a large heap of snow still on the edges of the beach the two-toned boy ran towards it and buried his muzzle into the white powder. It would not get rid of the sand on his nose but it would certainly stop itching. Duel coloured eyes caught his own as Range looked up at him. His whole face was wet from the snow, his ruff becoming saturated as well. Sau let out a laugh as he danced forward and licked his nephew square between the eyes.

"Oh Range, you're a funny one you are!"

Saul exclaimed as he pranced around the boy. He was having a nice time despite his morning run being interupted by the little menace. Glancing towards the tumultuous sea Saul decided not to allow the boy anywhere near it. He couldnt imagine what would happen if he lost Range to the waves. And Gideon's face if he told him. It would be aweful. However he didnt want his nephew to grow bored in his company, despite the fact that he would return him to Wolfville soon to stay there and play while Saul continued with his run. Turning back to the boy and gave him a thoughtful look before nipping his nephews flanks playfully.

"Lets build a sand castle!"

He exclaimed before bounding towards the flatter sand. It would be easy to build up a mound of sand and call it a castle- Saul was going to stay in his lupus form for this one. Expectant green eyes waited for Range to join him before dancing with mirth at his good fortune.
