The stem of a flower twirled absently between the girl's faded fingers, the withered petals looking sadly up at eyes of purest Lapis Lazuli. China returned the bittersweet gaze. She knew that winter was essential to the cycles of the Earthmother; the shedding of old life to make room for the new, the continuous circle of peace and existence. But that didn't mean that the Lykoi princess didn't have it in her heart to feel sorry for the crumbling blue petals. Sighing softly, and releasing a small puff of white air into the crisp air, China continued to wander.

She and Sage had amiably parted ways to explore this place. She and her sisters, though deeply connected, did not always feel the pressing need to be surrounded by one another. They were independent and coexistent spirits, not bound by any material attachments but the strong love they shared. But, China thought almost grumpily, she would have given anything right about now for one of their perfectly-formed joints. Nobody knew how to make a good one quite like her kin.

The forest around her was growing bleaker, come winter's grasping talons. Feeling the urge to quell the hollow silence with the lively tunes of her heart, China delicately tucked the sad blue flower into her short-cropped hair. It sat jauntily there amongst the dark strands, prettily framed between elegantly large ears. From a bandage wrapped tightly about her upper right arm she pulled a small wooden instrument; a reed pipe. Lovingly, the girl caressed it with her delicate fingers, then putting lips to it she began to play.

At once, the sweet music lilted into the cold, ebbing out in welcoming waves of peace and loves. The birds that remained in sparse treetops raised chorus to her sound. Like a pied piper she wandered, enjoying the magic she could create with the smallest of breaths.

Flower power! <3 -fist pump- +3

Needles here, needles there. Pine needles everywhere! Shiloh could not avoid stepping into them, and while they provided a cover from the dirt, they often pricked the pads on her feet. As the young white damsel made her way through the forest, attempting to side-step each brown needle without much success. The sounds of a stream were nearby, and without much more of a direction to take, she followed it. She ducked under a low-swinging branch, but as she went to regain her standing position, the tree limb caught part of her cream-colored hair, and the lily tucked behind her ear.

"Ah!" She squealed out of surprise, moving to untangle herself from the branch. When she did, she watched as her decorative flower fell to the ground, its beautiful pink petals torn by the movements Shiloh created. Her eyes widened, her features displaying every ounce of sadness that could be mustered. Crouching down to pick the flower up, she held it as if it were something precious she just lost.

"The forest is no place for a wolf!" She exclaimed into the wintry air, cupping the lily as she looked down upon it with a look of mourning. Shiloh didn't notice any lilies growing around her, and an even bigger pout formed on her countenance. "Now I'm gonna have to find a new one.." She grumbled, sighing deeply and almost a little too dramatically.

But then her ears perked up, and the sounds of music drifted through the nippy air. It was soft, and sweet, almost too good to be real. And for a moment, it sounded as if it was meant for Shiloh herself, to make her forget about her worries that the forest seemed to be creating for her. Curiosity got the best of the young wolf, and she followed the stream towards the sound, still gingerly holding her precious hairpiece. She stopped when a figure of mixed grays walked along a small clearing, seemingly engrossed in her task, concentrating on pushing air through her instrument to produce music. Shi's cerulean eyes softened, loving the sound that the stranger was producing, and simply stood there, against a snow-laced tree, listening intently.

The music was really flowing now, from every pore of her body, and as always it made her feel lighter than a feather. Dainty footpaws skipped over the path of fallen pine needles, hardly touching ground it seemed. As she played, her eyes drifted partially closed - She felt so connected to the Earthmother in this state that it was difficult to feel weighed down by the need to see. However, large satellite ears continued their rotations, even as short-cropped dark hair bounced wildly about her prettily glazed features.

China wasn't sure what it was that made her stop, and look around. The music fell silent as reed pipe dropped from pursed lips. Maybe not even years of preaching trust and peace could hope to cover up the Lykoi instincts, those which warned her instantly that she was being watched. However, like most of her specie, the silvery dappled girl did not leap to the conclusion that this was herald of some sort of attack - In fact, when at last her wandering blue eyes did seek out the watcher, she was rather glad of it.

The foreign girl was very pretty. She was also a wolf. China's eggshell-blue gaze narrowed curiously.

"Hello there, lovey." Sweetly lilting voice carried up to the poised lady, as China herself began to walk towards her, twirling the magical music-maker lightly between her tan fingers. She made a quick assessment of the female - She was not foolish, and canny enough to know that not all pretty wanderers were made of such serene stuff as she. But the creamy watcher did not seem at all aggressive, although perhaps slightly sultry, what with her sad blue eyes. Instantly, China felt contrite. "Whats the matter?" The hippiechild asked softly, her Lapis Lazuli gaze beseeching. Somebody that pretty should not look sad!

Poor Shi hates nature now XD. 300+

The young damsel kept on watching the female, and closed her own perfect blue eyes for a moment to lose herself into the music. She wasn't sure exactly how it was being produced, only that she knew no one had ever played an instrument like that before that she'd heard of. Shi was never around the right kind of wolves who played instruments at all, so to her they were magical, mysterious things. As she opened her eyes, the music seemed to stop wafting into the air at the same time, and another pair of lapis-colored eyes stared back at her.

"Hello there, lovey." Shiloh heard the female say, with a voice that was as lyrical as the music she had produced not moments ago. The white female gazed on, the music still lingering within her well-shaped, cream-colored ears. The looks of this female were without a doubt coyote-like, but Shiloh wondered if, for a moment, she was part of Inferni. "Oh, hello, miss." Shiloh returned the greeting, remembering almost instantly that she was staring. The white damsel was lost in thought, though, wondering how the small pipe in the gray coyote's hand made such lovely sounds. She averted her eyes and shook her head. 'No, impossible, no one that nice could come from Inferni,' she told herself.

The next question from the strange female caught Shiloh off guard. The white and cream female didn't realize she was displaying such emotions of sadness, but it was too late to try and lie about it. "It's my hair piece," she said quickly, opening her hand which contained the torn petals of a lily flower. "I was walking by, minding my own business, when a darn tree limb caught it!" She pouted, blaming the forest for her little mistake. Cerulean eyes gazed on the blue flower that was in the other female's hair, which was a surprising shade of blue, but it was shriveling up into nothing. "Why are you wearing a dying flower?" Shiloh inquired, pushing back locks of cream-colored hair.

The stranger seemed to be dazed by her music. To China, who's life revolved around the pleasing glaze of hallucinogenic drugs, this was the strongest compliment that the other girl could give. She held great esteem in her ability to play the reed pipe to the effect of such profound relaxation, and had, on more than one occasion, played both herself and any audience into a peculiar trance. However, the creamy-pelted lady seemed also confused by the instrument itself; Perhaps she'd never seen music-makers such as this! The hippiegirl's chest swelled with slight pride, because her piccolo was definitely one of a kind.

Having returned the greeting (and my, didn't she have a sweet little voice? China just knew that it would sing so lovely), the female answered her gentle inquiry. With a soft Ohhh, the grey and tan Lykoi girl leaned in close to observe the scrapped-up petals. A sweet scent emanated from the dying foliage, and she sniffed it appreciatively. It was a shame that the flower was ruined so, but she knew it to be no fault of the forest - It was merely the Earthmother reclaiming what was hers, and gifting the stranger with such a rare perfume in the process. She was about to say as much, when the stranger asked a question of herself.

"Oh!" China piped up, her features instantly becoming merry as she recalled the flower she'd placed in her own close-cropped hair. Gently retrieving it, she hippiechild laid in on her palm for closer inspection. "Why, because it's such a pretty color, of course!" Her laughter chimed like bells, Lapis Lazuli giving the girl a slightly confused look. Why wouldn't she wear it? "It is just as beautiful in death as it is in life, honey. Look closer." The wilted flower's tiny veins had darkened, creating a beautiful web of different blues across the bruised surface of each petal. Gazing at it now, China thought it to be one of the most beautiful things she had seen all week. Except, maybe, for the creamy stranger. "What's your name, love? I'm China Rose Lykoi, but you can call me China."

518 words. Sorry this took a while. Wanted to wait for SoSu! <3

The cerulean eyes of the young white damsel studied the coyote before her, whose expressions showed an air of peace, and her eyes expressed either a passivity or an acceptance of everything put before her. It was strange to Shiloh, this stranger had seemed friendly, but the cream and white furred female wasn't used to females being so kind. She had never been shown such kindness outside of her own family members, even. Her own ears twitched with skepticism as she watched the gray female look at the torn up lily in her perfectly-white palm, as if trying to watch for anything that might have seemed suspicious.

But Shi never received an answer about the forest destroying her head decoration, and her own brows furrowed in confusion when she saw that the coyote did the same. The laugh she produced was like the song of a robin's, but Shiloh's lips were pursed, not really satisfied with the answer she was given about a dead flower. She did was she was told to do, however, and her eyes moved down to the petals of the shriveling blue flower. It was a pretty color, sure, but Shi could not see what was so pretty when the plant wasn't alive; the petals rich and full, stretching out gracefully in all directions, and the whole of it displaying elegant colors from the center outwards.

Shiloh seemed to be lost in thought, however, as she kept her gaze on the flower. It took her a moment after the coyote introduced herself, that she blinked up into beautiful Lapis Lazuli eyes. 'How rude of me,' Shiloh thought to herself. The Dawnbringer female was completely caught up in finding a new decorative hair piece that she had forgotten her own manners. "Oh, I'm sorry," the white damsel said sincerely, her voice heavy with apology. "Shiloh Dawnbringer," Shi said, smiling. "That's quite an interesting na--," But she cut herself short, and thought the other introduced herself as a Lykoi. Shiloh's eyes widened suddenly. "A Lykoi! Then you must be part of Inferni," Shiloh said quickly, cerulean eyes glistening with memories of when she herself was in Inferni with her father. The female had remembered hearing about the Lykoi family, and a few members of the line, but only briefly.

Shiloh continued, not even stopping to think that the female may have been part of another pack, or even just a lone coyote. "Perhaps you've heard of my father, Dreyrugr." The pristine white female forgot all about her lily, there were plenty of more flowers for her to pick from in the forest that she now found herself in, with this multi-colored female. Shiloh dropped the pink flower from her own hand, letting it drift and fall to the cold, snowy forest floor. Shiloh tucked strands of cream-colored hair behind her ears of the same hue, looking upon China expectantly. She wondered if the Lykoi woman knew of her father, and if he was alright. Even though the female hadn't been gone from her father for long, to return home, her heart belonged in two places.

The creamy girl really did seem to have taken China's advice. Why, she was staring at the crumpled blue flower so intently, perhaps she had indeed taken her sentiments to heart! The thought was delightful. Perhaps this girl was closer to the sweet spiritual bower of the earthmother than she had initially appeared. Eggshell blue eyes shimmered happy at those of a similarly beautiful hue.

Then the girl was apologising, which was strange, but bless! She had a very beautiful name. "Shiloh!" China chirped happily, enjoying the way the exotic name rolled off of her tongue. Shiloh Shiloh Shiloh! What a delightful sound! At the same time that China was marvelling over her company's name, it seemed the ivory beauty was doing likewise, for suddenly her attention was stolen by the excitement in the girl's tone.

There was something about the name Lykoi. Some mystical weight was attached to it, by which the speaking of the word created a ripple. The ripple spread to all those around her, magnified by the stories and interpretations of others. It was a strange thing to acknowledge, that one simple name had so much... Power. If the slender girl were not the peace-loving earthchild she knew herself to be, then perhaps the allure of such power would bring her happiness. As it was, it made her slightly uncomfortable. She had grown up, along with her sisters and brother, apart from this infamous family of hers. Thus, all links to the name were haphazard and fraught with confusion. She knew as much of her heritage as anyone.

"Dreyrugr?" She tasted the name with peculiarly musical voice, pupils narrowing in thought. Although perpetually stoned, China's mind was surprisingly quick. She shook her head, looking morosely to the other girl. "I'm sorry, Shiloh. I don't know anyone by that name." Because she felt bad for not being able to offer what the pretty ivory lady clearly wanted to hear, China held out her hand in a friendly manner, offering it to be taken by the other. "Why don't we look for another flower for you? You can tell me how it is you know of Inferni, and about your father, too." Her sweet voice had a surprisingly firm turn to it. China was used to getting what she wanted, and right now, she wanted this girl's company. She also wanted to know, desperately, if Shiloh knew anything of her own father - but that could be asked later.

The white damsel was a bit shocked when the coyote went and burst out her own name, as if it was a name she knew already. Her cerulean eyes studied the strange, flower-loving, flute-playing female before her, ears twitching in thought. Shi couldn't quite put a claw on this other female, as to why she loved nature so, or why she seemed so carefree, and why it seemed like everything she said was the down to earth truth. Then again, there were several strange wolves, but it wasn't like Shiloh had anything to worry about around China. She seemed like she could trust her, and hold onto every word she said.

Which the Dawnbringer female was doing just then, her eyes filled with hope that this Lykoi girl might recognize her father. How she missed him, even though their time apart has been brief. Shiloh knew she might not ever see him again, and damned if she had to step foot into Inferni again. Everything she knew about that place, or what she cared to remember, was the dirty, filthy wolf skulls and the mean glances she always got from others. Of course, her father had been right there to shield her, and to give the stare of death at anyone who was even thinking about attacking his only daughter.

Sadly, Shiloh's shoulders slumped with disappointment, and the hope in her face vanished in an instant, like a snowstorm which covered every bit of green grass. "Worth a shot," she said, her voice filled with what sounded like defeat. Shiloh wondered if her father was okay, even though she knew he'd be fine. A part of her wondered if he'd ever come to visit her and her brothers, his sons, back in Dahlia. Or, maybe, if she was with her brothers and felt brave enough, if they'd go see him. Maybe some day..

Shiloh blinked when she saw an outstretched hand coming towards her, and she looked down at it, then back at the Lykoi woman. A new flower did sound nice, especially after the horrid forest ripped her other one up, and with help from someone who thought a dead flower was beautiful, Shiloh hoped she'd at least get one with petals that weren't threatening to break apart.

The pristine female's perfectly white hand lifted hesitantly, then placed it atop the smaller gray one, and nodded. She shivered at the part of the Inferni tales she'd have to tell, but somehow she believed China would understand. It almost felt like she could sit and tell the coyote female anything, though they hardly knew one another. Words came from a voice so soothing, that having to recall what she knew of Inferni was overpowered by finding a new hair piece, and talking about her father. "Sounds great," she told the other female in a voice full of honesty, and strange sureness.

Of course the girl would accept her offer. China didn't even consider the alternative. She found herself utterly enthralled with the ivory damsel, so prim and pretty, so... Clean looking. Clean of mind, body and soul. It was delightfully refreshing, especially after spending the short time she already had int he company of her extended family. It wasn't the China disliked her kin - Oh not, not even, for the Lykoi princess loved them all dearly, each and every corrupt and vile imbecile, each and every murdering maniac and their mother. All she held in her heart was love for them. But trying to convert them to the way of peace and love was a very tiresome business, and it took it's toll on the free-seeking flowerchild. Strangely enough, the socialite missed her freedom, her solitude; The time she had spend rejuvenating, reconnecting with the earthmother, felt like a pleasant dream rather than a memory.

Shiloh, though, she was quite unlike the others. A whole new species of strange. China found that the mere company of the ivory beauty delighted her, for now at least; the silvery girl was, at heart, a fickle creature, prone to sudden bursts of boredom and a wavering attention span. At the current time, though, her entire attention was focused most intently on the other girl. Shiloh was obviously saddened that China had no news of her father, and for that, the sylphlike teenager was most sorry. She knew what it was to search for, and long for, a father.

The slender ivory hand fit delicately into her small tan-blushed one. China offered the girl a reassuring smile, and then turned to lead her further into the forest.

Holding the girl's hand innocently against her own bone-white splashed palm, the Lykoi girl wandered slowly, matching her pace to that of the ivory miss. Slanted eyes, full of a deviant but generally loving light, trailed over the path, occasionally flitting back to Shiloh. "So, tell me about your father first, hmm?" Her words were gently probing, but offered in such a sweet tone, none would be any the wiser. "Why did you think I might know of him?"

680 words. It's too bad that Shiloh's character hardly knows anything of Drey. XD

Not only did the two females in the Dampwoods that day look different, but inwardly they seemed very much unrelated. One was a nature loving, free for all persona, who had an airy tone and a peaceful demeanor. The other was a pristine princess, nearly feeling like the world revolved around her, and everything had to go her way - perfect. And yet Shiloh felt drawn to this female, possibly because she had very little female interaction in her young life. The mother of the four Stormbringer children passed before she could make a real impact in her childrens' life, and the closest Shiloh really had was her aunt. But Bris was busy becoming a mother, and so Shiloh did not bother her all that much since she returned to Dahlia.

So why did the white damsel find this female, almost her complete opposite in manners and beliefs, so intriguing? Cerulean eyes gleamed over with these thoughts, unable to explain why the airy attitude of the coyote drew her in. If only the Dawnbringer female knew of the phrase "opposites attract", everything would have made perfect sense. She focused on the coyote in front of her, having plenty of questions to ask, but she wasn't going to be rude and un-lady-like and start blurting everything that came to mind.

The hand underneath her own felt light, and as she walked side by side with the coyote, she scented the earth and the air in her fur. They were closely matched in height, Shi noticed, as the darker colored female seemed to know her way through the forest. Like a mother bird who flew far from her nest, to find food for her young, still able to make her way past all the similar looking trees to where she needed to be. That is what China was doing now, leading the young damsel to somewhere she may or may not know. Little did Shiloh know about the earth's children, who regarded the forest in a different light.

Several shades of light filtered through the trees, and Shiloh subconsciously focused her bright blue eyes to her elegant feet, to be sure she knew where they was walking. Her muzzle pointed upwards toward the female at her side, suddenly focusing on thoughts of her father instead of where they were heading. "Oh," the white female said quietly, almost surprised that this coyote, nearly a stranger, was interested in her past. She took a deep breath, and began to speak, mottled light playing over her form. "Dreyrugr, he lives in Inferni. I was there with him not long ago, before I returned to Dahlia." She turned her gaze away from the female for a moment, as if she was choosing her words carefully. "My brothers were with us, too, for a while, but they all made their way back sooner.." And then, a small giggle bubbled in her perfectly white throat. "Guess I'm daddy's little girl," she said, bright eyes looking at the ebony coyote beside her.

The chirping of birds seemed to fade away further into the skies, and Shiloh turned her head upwards. A fluttering of several butterflies now came into view of the two females, several different shapes, sizes, and colors adorning the air. Shiloh's lips parted for a moment, taking in the serene scene, watching as more and more seemed to emerged from out of nowhere. Looking over again to the nature loving coyote, Shi looked surprised, as if shocked that she hadn't finished answering the other. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to put you on the spot.. but when you said Inferni, I--" Shiloh's throat closed up then, and she turned her eyes away from the Lykoi girl. "I just miss him," she said quietly into the air, eyes flickering back to the butterflies. "They're beautiful," Shiloh commented, not having seen so many of the insects in one place before. They may have been insects with large eyes and little crawly feet, but from a distance they were gorgeous, with several patterns and colors that painted their wings.

China liked Shiloh. It was a simply emotion to feel towards another mortal individual, and one that the silvery girl prided herself in giving easily. But, more than that, China was actually interested in Shiloh, and that was something much more difficult to achieve from the coyote girl. She was good at faking interest, oh yes - wasn't everybody? - but her attention span was as fleeting as a sunshower, and often prone to absolute lapses of concentration. That was why China liked Shiloh, because Shiloh... Shiloh was interesting. There were many ways for people to be interesting in the Lykoi princess' opinion. There were those who had a good story to tell, those who were blessed with an intriguing appearance, perhaps those who held interesting company. But the ivory girl had something rarer than all that; she had an interesting mind. China could sense it in the way she held herself, the way her pretty blue eyes wandered here and there; Her every mannerism made the curious coyote further attached to the pretty stranger. She was not family, but the tan-blushed girl felt a connection to her regardless, for their stark differences was clearly what made them most alike. Unlike Shiloh, she understood the intentions between the common articulation 'opposites attract' very, very well.

It was warm where their palms touched, and the simple connection made the hippie-born child feel relaxed. Strangers did not hold hands, and neither did foes. They were friends now - It was a simple as that. Aware of her companions meek willingness to wander where the silvery pied piper took her, China allowed her earth-dusted feet to choose a path at will. Earthmother provided, and they were sure to find something to lift the ivory girl's spirits soon enough.

As she spoke, the coyote girl listened intently, although her expression was absently mild. Cunning Lapis Lazuli returned regularly to seek the sweet cornflower blue of her newest associate as she talked about her absent father. It was strange to consider that someone so neat could have lived in Inferni, but seeing as China herself was rather knew to the territory, she decided not to judge. Nor did she ask why Shiloh no longer lived with her father, as there was clearly some unpleasantness there, and the Lykoi girl truly wished to see her interesting ivory companion smile again.

A fluttering of gentle palettes caught her attention, and although one ear remained tilted to hear the last of the girl's words, it was clear that China's attention had momentarily shifted. A spasm of delight brightened her impish face, a delighted smile curving about pixie maw. The butterflies were passion in motion, beauty in flight - pupils narrowed so that she could gaze on them in absolute rapture, enthralled by each minuscule wingbeat as the cacophony of colors swelled to fill the heavens above the pair. Her heart beat a little faster, tan-blushed hand tightening its grip on slender snow-white.

Shiloh's voice distracted her daze, and with a look of puzzlement, China's gaze returned just in time to see her new friend dip her gaze. Immediately, she felt contrite - Oh, she shouldn't have asked that question, silly girl! You made your new friend sad! For a simple moment, the silver-dappled sylph watched Shiloh with a surprisingly heavy gaze, for one who's heart was such a fickle organ. They were alike, in that respect - Each new the sorrow of missing one they loved.

Suddenly, China was pulling the ivory girl. "Come with me," Her lyrical voice spilled out excitedly, as though she had made her mind up on something. The earthmother was sending them a sign, and China knew just how to read the words she wrote on the backs of fluttering butterflies. Tugging insistently at the prim girl, she changed their direction and broke into a run after the flow of insects. "Come on!" Voice was insistent now, and branches whipped past her, but keen cerulean gaze was fixed on the colorful spectrum ahead. After what felt like only seconds, China broke through a tangle of gnarled branches, and burst onto a spectacular scene. The butterflies had led her to an oasis of flowers - The last of the season, before winter stole their sweet fragrance away. Blooms of pink and blue, coral and lavender thrust up from the soil in spectacular array, flanked though they were by brittle thistle and vine.

Somewhere on the short run, China realized that she must have released Shiloh's hand. She turned around expectantly. "Shiloh? Look... Look at what we found!" Sounding slightly breathless, wide blue eyes sought the dainty form of her meticulous friend.

574 words. Wew, you made this thread lucky! Big Grin Also, I just noticed the cute silhouette of the bug on your table! -pokes it-

No one could have, or would have guessed that the white damsel and the silvery earthchild would share some sort of connection. They had a love for pretty things, but through the Lapis Lazuli's of the clay and silver colored woman, she saw beauty even in death. Whereas the Dawnbringer female hardly liked to hunt, for the fact that she would have to kill something, and smell the rotting stench and feel all that blood drip down her muzzle. The mere thought made her shiver, but she was glad for being a Luperci. Being able to kill things without touching them, and having the fingers to make fire and cook meat - it felt like a blessing she didn't know who to thank for.

Yet the coyote beside her seemed to understand. She didn't seem like the type to do anything one didn't want to do, which was fine by the white and cream hued female. Despite wearing her emotions on her sleeve, and the conversation always driving to her, it seemed like China did not mind. Shiloh was nearly taken aback by this.. what kind of life did this coyote live, from Inferni of all places, to be so passive.. so gentle? Shi never remembered anyone from that pack like China. Had her father Drey not been around to protect his one and only princess, she more wolf than coyote, she'd have been torn to pieces. There she felt like she stuck out like a sore thumb, being perfectly white and proper, but in Dahlia she could be who she really was.

"Ah!" Shiloh squeaked, as she was suddenly tugged forward. At first she was taken by surprise at the gesture, having been lost in her thoughts, as the silver and clay coyote pulled her towards a destination. The earthchild seemed to know where she was going, as if the butterflies that hovered around them had given China a sign. "Where--?" But she was cut off by China's more insistent tone, and slight irritation was evident as she flicked her ears. It disappeared just as her hand was left to trail into the air, the earthy female pushing ahead happily. Shiloh watched as she pushed past some bramble rather quickly, and her upper lip curled for a moment. The pristine female took her time to push through the dry brush, which didn't look at all appealing, but the scene past it made it worth it to cross.

Flowers came in waves of color, each shade flowing into different hues, molding and coming together in a bunch that didn't allow for the ground which they grew on to be seen. Cerulean eyes brightened as she bathed her gaze in the scenery, her happiness showing. Butterflies helped the scene as they lightly touched upon the petals of several flowers, their wings a stark contrast upon the pastel colored flora. Silence hung in the air between the two females, trying to come over the shock of the beauty that the forest dwellers led them to. "I-- but.. how did you know?" She said, reluctant to tear her eyes from the flowers to her new friend. Wonderment shone in her cerulean orbs, almost not wanting to believe that this female was so at one with the earth that she picked up the faintest signs. It was like the butterflies whispered to the earthchild as they fluttered above them, telling the two forest visitors of their secret.

For a moment, it seemed as though she had lost her ivory companion. But no - There came a distinctive cracking, and with a resilient groan of branches the stubborn bramble finally released its unwilling victim to view. China's face brightened instantly, her merrily mischievous eyes giving the disgruntled ivory girl a quick once-over before returning to the beautiful spectrum before them.

She moved to stand beside Shiloh, gaze sliding over to revel in the other girl's look of blatant awe. Impish smile spread further over pixie maw, as the coyote lovechild slide her hand back around the hybrid's limp snow-white palm. She liked the connection, and now did not wish to be without it while in Shiloh's presence. She felt a surprising tug of pride at the dumbstruck happiness on the girl's face, taking ownership of the fact that she had put it there. Shiloh looked so much prettier when she was happy, China decided absently, returning her own gaze to the eruption of color before them.

Petals and wings clashed and melted, the shifting of movement like a small rainbow trapped in the gnarled claws of the wintry forest.

The silence was comfortable to China. She allowed it to stretch, allowed Shiloh to look her fill of the glorious picture before her. When at last the ivory lady spoke, the coyote gifted her with another sharp smile, Lapis Lazuli glinting deviantly. With a gentle tug on Shiloh's hand, she began to wander into the small scene, placing her dainty tan footpaws carefully so as not to crush the delicate stems and glistening wings. "Dunno, love," The answer was truthful, if not nonchalant. China had felt an urge, and as always, she had obeyed it. That was the way the wayward lovechild worked. She considered the scene with a look of imperial thoughtfulness, rethinking the question. "The earthmother has reasons for revealing these things. This is her gift to you, Shiloh," That was a more satisfactory answer, and pleased with it, the slender silvery girl nodded once. The flowers were for Shiloh, and Shiloh herself was for China. That was the way it worked.

Intelligent gaze returned to the wildflower abundance, and she began measuring them carefully now, searching for one in particular- There, there it was! Releasing the ivory hybrid's hand, China loosed a delighted peal of laughter. It was not enough to speak of her happiness, though; Because her body demanded it, the lithe girl executed a neat cartwheel, her close-cropped hair swinging gaily about slanted eyes. Once she was right-way up, the Lykoi princess took a few more bounds forward, and bent to retrieve a plant hidden from view. Her sharp claws nipped the stem quickly and cleanly, and China turned to reveal her prize.

The flower was a delicate peach color, bleeding into a soft ivory near its center. Its delicate petals were freshly unfurled, slate-clean and pristine. As China held it out to Shiloh, a nearby butterfly sought fit to perch daintily on the exposed plant.

663 words. Listening to Jon McLaughlin made me write this post <3

The silvery coyote beside the damsel smiled almost knowingly, as if she knew this secret, enchanted place was here the entire time. She looked into the eyes of the smug Lapis Lazuli, then back at the scene. She found her perfectly white muzzle agape, bathing in the scenes of different colors and fluttering butterfly wings. It was simply beautiful, and why the frost hadn't taken it away she did not know. Truthfully, Shiloh didn't care, for it was all there, every type and color to choose from. Ears flicked happily, almost not feeling as the coyote slipped her dainty hand in hers, taking in the forests hidden treasure.

All of her worries drifted away, as a butterfly flitted near her very eyes. She blinked back, a bit surprised, and looked to China as she began to speak again. This was... a gift? For.. her? Shiloh looked on with confusion towards the silver and clay earthchild, but there was not a hint of sarcasm or doubt in the other woman's voice or face. The pristine female studied the coyote, as she seemed to scan the sea of flowers, looking for one particular treasure. And, like a bee buzzing for pollen, she dove and spun into the heart of the Earthmother herself, laughter filling the air along with the aromatic scents that already surrounded them.

She wondered how the lithe, carefree female was able to dive through the waves of petals, without so much as stirring them like a gentle breeze. Like an insect who picked just the right flower to land upon, China too knelt down to pluck one from the middle of the colorful bunch, though it was hidden from Shiloh's view. The white and cream colored female watched as her opposite flitted, like a butterfly, back towards her, revealing from her delicate hands to a more delicate treasure. The petals were soft and rounded, even without the Dawnbringer female having to touch them. Cerulean eyes sparkled as she observed it, splashes of light orange drifting into soft whites, like peaches and cream. Shiloh found it even more beautiful as the butterfly that fluttered close to her face earlier now perched atop the treasure - what would soon be her new hair piece.

"It's perfect," she said, her voice straining above a whisper. Shiloh was too afraid that if she spoke any louder, she'd scare the butterfly away, but still she chanced it as both her hands stretched out to grab the object. She retracted a bit as the butterfly saw the incoming shadow of fingers, and drifted off gracefully. Shi watched it go, before turning her bright blue eyes on the flower. Gently she scooped it up from China's hands, noticing not a speck of dirt on the flower despite where it once grew. Inspecting it further, just to be sure, she shined it up into the mottled light of the forest, before moving her hands that held the flower up to her left ear, gently tucking it behind cream colored locks. When it was adjusted in a way Shiloh felt was comfortable, she let her hands fall once more.

"Well? How do I look?" She said sweetly, a smile directed towards the female, like a bee who brought its queen a bit of honey. She looked behind the silvery female onto the flowered world once more, almost wishing there was a nearby pool for her to take a look at herself. Of course, that was also a dangerous thing.. for Shiloh might have stayed there fixing herself for hours. Something clicked in the young white female's mind, then, as if she had forgotten something. Eyes fluttered back to the Lapis Lazuli gaze before her, looking on curiously. "What was that instrument you were playing, earlier?" Shiloh was intensely curious how a small stick could produce the music that she heard before she met the female. It seemed that, at every moment, there was something new to learn from this silvery coyote.

Deviant cornflower blue observed twin eyes similar in hue to their own, with a startling sense of longing and wonder. China longed for Shiloh to like her present. No, China longed for Shiloh to love her present. If the ivory female cast it aside, then China had no idea what she would do. She'd never been rejected before; Never never never. Always, her subtle but sinuous charms had woven themselves to perfection, and like a moth caught in a spider's web, the victim was left only to be enthralled. The silvery girl smiled, a perfectly innocent smile, but the hand holding the flower trembled in slight.

She didn't have to wait long. As soon as the ivory girl had fixated her gaze on the peach and cream offering, China knew that she had her snared. It gave the hippiechild immense delight to watch as the other girl tentatively stretched out slender fingers towards her offering. The butterfly, done with the antics of the peculiar twolegged creatures in his midst, wafted away with an air of beautiful snobbery. An amused chuckle left the clay and silver girl's maw as her slanted eyes followed the critter's daft progress, over to another bunch of coral and terracotta flowers. Then, stolen by the sweet voice, her mischievous sights returned to their previous affliction.

"It's perfect," came the soft admission, and the Lykoi princess' smile grew immeasurably. One day, perhaps, Shiloh would realize the fallacy of that statement, as blatantly as China had. Nothing in this earth was perfect. The Earthmother made it so - Every creature, every small detail, was flawed. And that was what made their world so intensely beautiful. Each flower was blessed with an uneven number of petals, each mammal gifted with an unusual trait to call its own, each sentient being presented with the opportunity to formulate their own future - That was the imperfection, and the utter freedom, that China so adored. Because the whispered statement was so outrageous, and amused the lovechild immensely, she giggled softly. Oh, Shiloh intrigued her so! How could one creature so beautiful, so charmingly flawed in her design, be so enamored with the idea of perfection?

Delicate white fingers grazed her own tan-blushed hand, as the flower was taken oh-so-carefully from China's light grasp, and inspected as one would an invaluable diamond.

A growing impatience made China shift her weight from one foot to the other, like a small kid waiting to unwrap a present. If Shiloh took much longer, the silvery girl was going to shove the thing behind her ear herself... Aha, at last! The petals sat sweetly against the hybrid's glossy hair. The Lykoi princess clapped her hands excitedly, a merry smile curving about her impish maw once more. "Oh, Shiloh! You look absolutely-" DELICIOUS! Wait, where did that thought come from? "... Absolutely beautiful! It suits you nicely, love, it does, it does!" That merry smile again, her features entranced by the ivory girl's obvious pleasure.

Startled from her merry-making by the sudden question, China blinked her thick lashes for a moment, considering the other girl carefully. Then, with much ceremonial caution, she removed the small reed pipe from the bandages on her upper right arm, and held it out for observation in the palm of her hand.

It was a simple instrument, but lovingly formed - The wood polished till it gleamed warmly in the cool wintry light. It had only 4 key holes and a mouth-hole, and was about the length of her hand, but with it China could play an impressive myriad of notes, using various techniques and wind pressures. It truly was her most favorite item in the entire world, perhaps the only object she had an attachment to, and the silver-dappled girl valued it with her life. "This," She said carefully, turning the object over so that Shiloh could see the small vine pattern etched into its other side, "Is my pipe." With a neat flourish of her hand, she twirled the instrument between dexterous fingers before lifting it to her lips. With the gentlest of blows, a sweet sound ebbed from the instrument; the butterflies responded by lifting to dance into the air.

444 words. <3! Is it bad that I already thought of the title for our next thread? ;o

The flower was what had connected them both for a brief moment, more than either of the women had perceived. It wasn't just the acceptance of a simple flower - it was the acceptance of another, a completely different persona. A new world, a new life unlike what the other was used to. Yin met Yang, swirling and forming in a delicate balance, as Shi's pure colored hands grazed darker ones. To Shiloh, the flower was perfect, the whole environment surrounding them was perfect. If only she knew that nothing was what it seemed, to her, but it was merely the damsel's opinion. Some came to love the world and its inhabitants for their small imperfections, while others had to have everything in their unnatural state - of what was called perfection. As her cerulean eyes beamed at the silvery female after placing the flower in her hair, which nearly matched in color, she thought the piece that was missing from her was complete. Perfect.

A smile graced her perfectly white muzzle, with the expected comment from the silvery coyote. "Thank you." If only there was a pool of water nearby, or a mirror, or something for her to gaze into her own reflection. It would have to wait, though, as the Dawnbringer female hung on the words of China's. Eyes roved over to the Lykoi woman's hands, then, watching as she drew out the reed pipe as if it were her own flower, her own little piece of perfection. It was smaller than Shi had imagined, and she couldn't help but lean her head in to take a closer look.

China took that moment to turn it over, so that her own bright blue oceans could take in all sides of the instrument. Shiloh drew her cream striped head back as the silvery female put the small pipe to her lips, and began to produce sweet music, filling the air with the pleasant sounds. The young woman stepped back for a moment, as China began to play, and found a nearby rock to perch herself upon, looking between her and the butterflies that seemed to dance along.

A hum began to form in her own throat, and she closed her eyes to truly listen to the music. Shiloh did indeed love music, and secretly she would sing out loud to no one but herself. The young female was far too afraid to sing in front of everyone else, but she could hum - like anyone else could. Her heart beat in time with the tune from the reed pipe, humming only softly so as not to disturb the coyote and her flute playing.
