A continuation of this thread so dated for nov 8! short fast posts are good I think. 305.

Range lead them back to the Victorian style house and Nayru entered in after him, her nostrils twitching for the scent of Melee and Gideon. Gideon would surely be proud of his adoptive son's catch, even if Nayru had had a helping hand in the creature's demise. To be able to share it with Gideon and Melee would surely be something special. Often Nayru thought of her first kill, which had been the beginning of one of her favorite pastimes. Hunting. Neither Conor nor Bris had been presented with her first fresh kill, but she had brought both of them many more that had come after. Still, had she been in the proper state of mind she might had taken a break to share the moment with someone. But no, even under Larkspur's gaze it had been private. Smeared in blood the moment had been her's, and it was perhaps the lack of perspective Conor or Bris had to lend that left her feeling so desperate for her next kill, and so remorseless for the life she had taken.

Range surely didn't feel that way, or at least Nayru thought he did not as crimson eyes swept over the boy again. He had seemed hesitant, but even after the kill had taken place. Nor did he seem all too eager to repeat the act. That was fine, not all had to embrace hunting with such fervor as she did. Perhaps it was better that he didn't. Turning away from the boy with the rabbit hanging out his mouth Nayru cleared out her throat, her gentle voice echoed in the halls of the home. "Gideon? Melee? Are either of you here?" Ruby eyes turned toward Range and she opened them wide, as if to question if he knew where his father or sister had gone to.

There was a lot to say about a nice daytime nap. Gideon wasn't quite as tired as he had been while the pups had been growing up but still had his fair share of weary days. Now that they were older and getting out on their own it seemed that they always had something new and exciting to show him. He was very interested in seeing what they were learning in the pack and in helping them learn things himself, but it did tire him out from time to time. Overall he felt that he'd adjusted well to raising the pups, and looked forward to seeing them develop more in their personalities and ways.

Gideon had never been too good of a hunter, preferring to hunt in a group (it took some of the pressure off, he felt) and storing the meat for as long a she could, but he was slowly gaining experience in the area through raising Melee and Range. Now that they were eating meat he had to provide more, and he figured that they probably got tired of eating fish all the time, which was the main thing that he brought in. He loved the process of catching a fish, loved seeing the different kinds that he could pull from the various bodies of water around them. So far he had fished in rivers, lakes, ponds, and even in the big ocean.

When he heard Nayru's voice he yawned and tried to roll over on the bed, but found himself in a predicament; he had fallen asleep on the inside of the bed near the wall, but had woken up on the side away from the wall. When he rolled over he fell off of the bed entirely, tumbling down onto the floor. Ow. Gideon rubbed his arm and then his hip where he'd fallen as he came out to the main living area, frowning a bit. "Hey, guys"

Grr my reply was typed up before Giddy posted so can we just pretend Melee got there first XD? SSWM: 524

Melee had been out in the back most of the day watching the leaves fall from the trees. Fall was here and it would be winter soon. She loved the way the colors of the leaves changed as the seasons went on. The earth was covered in shades of brown, red, and orange. There was a hint of yellow, but not enough for her to count it as part of the new hue to the land. She smiled and ran around trying to catch the leaves in her mouth as they were falling. The pup managed to catch a few, but mainly on accident. She would trip and roll around, catching them with her paws as she kept them in the air. She was so happy that she was able to have so much fun. The girl was not much of one for hunting or fishing. She preferred to make fun out of everything so she could enjoy her day. Even when she went out with her father and he was fishing, she would go off and play with some of the fish. She considered them her friends, that was until she began to make some more friends in the pack. She would have to try and find some of the other pups in the pack and see if they wanted to play with her.

Melee paused from her fun when she thought she heard someone come inside. She turned back to the house and headed inside to see her brother was back home. She was glad to see him back and was more happy to see that Nayru had come with him. She loved spending time with the black and white wolf and loved it when she gave her some company. She stayed a bit hidden, not wanting to spot her so quickly. The pup wondered if they would be able to smell her nearby. She looked over to her brother and saw that he was carrying something in his mouth. She was so surprised. Was he able to catch something all on his own? She bounced with excitement and wanted to congradulate him for doing a good job and catching something. The girl finally came into view and bounded over to them. She smiled as Nayru was asking if she or her father was around. ”I’s hewe!” She wagged her tail with happiness as she looked over to her brother. ”Did you catch that all by youwself Wange? Congwats!”

Seeing as Nayru had asked for her and Gideon, Melee figured she could go try and look for their father for her. She searched around the rooms for him, not sure if he was still inside or if he had left to go somewhere. She called out for him as she searched. She was sure he was around here somewhere; although, she was outside for most of the time so she didn’t know if he had snuck out without telling her. Either way she would come back out to where Range and Nayru were waiting. She would wait with them for Gideon and roll around, being her playful self for the she wolf.

Sorry! Took me a minute to reply. x:

Range couldn't help but smile with the approval of Melee. But in order to hold the rabbit in his mouth, he had to keep his teeth clenched around it. He trotted forward until he was in front of Gideon and his sister, dropping the Cotton-tailed creature that he had held so tightly between his jaws in front of them. He ran his tongue over his teeth, cleaning off the blood that still clung to them. After he was satisfied, he looked around at the small group he called his family. With a weak, but proud grin, the sand coloured boy spoke. "Y-Yeah. Me and Nayru.. Wes gatta rabbit." He lowered his eyes, studying the small animal. It wasn't as easy as he expected to talk about the events that had previously taken place. "But.. He's dead." He tried to manage a shoulder roll, but it couldn't quite do it. It was impossible for the pup to tell if it was because he was still a bit afraid of the Nayru he had seen during the hunt.. Or if he was just tired from all that had taken place within this one short day.

He gave a small yawn and looked down at the meal. It was sad to think that the old Cottontail would never be able to hop through the fields, or build those damned holes that could break your foot if you stepped in it.. Or in Range's case; hold your muzzle until you starve. He stared off towards the house, avoiding the beady eyes of the dead animal. "I'm sorry.."

Melee was first to respond to her call, and Nayru smiled warmly as the girl bounded into the room her and Range occupied. "Melee! Look what your brother has brought home!" The sister seemed proud and pleased with her brother, and Nayru nudged Range encouragingly, hoping that Melee's warmth would help to dispel some of the insecurities and discomfort that lingered after the hunt. Perhaps she had been too serious with the boy, perhaps he was too young to really understand the cycle of the food chain. One had to take a life in order to maintain a life in order to create more life. That was just the way the world worked, but Nayru remember how hard it had been for her to become part of that cycle. To embrace and practice hunting. Now it was second nature. As a predator Range, and Melee too, would come to accept it, but Nayru did not want to push them before they were ready.

Gideon appeared then, sleepy and frowning. Nayru moved over to her friend and nudge him in nearly the same manner she had Range. There was no room for unhappiness in this house, and Nayru was going to make sure both the boy and the man knew this. "Gideon, Range and I went hunting today." Crimson eyes went back to Range as he explained the rabbit to his father and sister. The girl frowned a bit when the boy said the rabbit was dead, she knew he was still trying to process his feelings internally. Yet she also resisted the urge to laugh, just a little. Of course the rabbit was dead, how else would they eat it?

The woman settled herself into a sitting position on the ground, so that she would be more level with Range and Melee. Her eyes caught Gideon's, then moved to Range, sure that her friend could see the unhappiness that lingered about Range. How to deal with such an incident was up to the boy's father, and Nayru hoped she wasn't stepping over any boundaries as she spoke. "Range, did you know a rabbit was the first kill I ever made also? I was almost too scared to do it, but now I help hunt for the whole pack, so I can help feed everyone I love. Just like Gideon and Melee will surely enjoy this rabbit. " She smiled hesitantly, hoping the boy saw the logic in such a statement.

He had spoken to Nayru about moving out to the eastern side of the territory and she had said that it wouldn't be crowding her like he had suspected he might, but he still wasn't sure about it. He would have to discuss such a thing with the pups; he didn't want to move them out of the house unless they wanted to go as well. Here they would have others to interact with and a safe, stable place to go if they ever got into trouble. He would likely stay in the house until they reached their adult ranks, at least, to be sure that they were still looked after.

So far, it seemed that the hunting lessons were going pretty well. He looked at the rabbit that Range had caught with joy, his chest filling with pride. "What a good job, son. That's really great." He couldn't believe that his little boy had caught the rabbit; even if Range was a little unsure about what he had done, he had gained a little skill in the area! What he had learned on this day would help him the next time, and perhaps he wouldn't feel quite as uncomfortable with it then. The male's tail wagged steadily behind him where he sat, sweeping quickly along the floor and stirring up little bits of dust.

"I used to eat bugs, when I could find them. Aunt Bris brought me a lot of my food...Conor, too. I think the first thing I ever caught was a fish." He had learned how to fish long before he had ever chased down a rabbit or cornered a squirrel. Perhaps this was why the male seemed more suited for fishing than hunting. He was a bit worried about going into the Jager rank, if he made it there, as he mostly focused on fishing. Maybe it would be OK if he could get the pack to like fish...

sorry for the wait. SSWM: 315

Melee was so proud of her brother and that he was actually able to make a kill, with Nayru’s help of course. She looked to the kill and wagged her tail. She wondered if Gideon or Nayru would take her out one day so she could learn to hunt too. She knew it would be hard considering her birth defect, but she would do her best aside from that. She nodded to Nayru when she told her to look at the kill. She looked back to Range and then sat down. She looked up to the adults. It looked like they were talking to each other. Perhaps one of them would offer to take her out to do something sometime. Right now it felt like she was being left out of the group. She wanted to fit in but it looked like since Range was the one to catch the meal so it was his turn in the spotlight.

Melee looked back up to the adults as Gideon mentioned that he used to eat bug. She stuck out her tongue in disgust. ”Eww that is disgusting daddy. How could you eat that stuff?” She put her tongue back in her mouth as he continued. Fish sounded like something nice to eat. She wanted to learn how to catch some fish too so she could have her father be proud of her too. She did not want to be out shined by her brother. She just wanted to show them that she could do just as well as he could. She smiled and rubbed her head gently along Gideon’s leg. ”Fish sounds weally good daddy. Will you teach me how to fish when winter is over?” She was so happy and couldn’t wait to see if she would be able to spend some time with her dad once the warmer weather had come to the land.
