Never got to say I love you..

He hadn't been in his room. Nor the basement or the living room. There wasn't a single trace of him anywhere in the house. The moment that Gabriel came in and said that they needed to move, she'd begun looking. Everyone had already gathered and started away from the house by the time that she'd finished looking, all she could do was catch up to them. He had to have heard the call, it would've been hard to miss the fire. Arkham knew, he'd find them. It was about the time that they reached the swamp that the girl began to doubt. What if he was trapped? What if he was trapped and was screaming out for someone to help him? What if she would never see him again because she didn't take the time to make sure that he was safe? This was wrong. How could they all just wander off and leave her brother behind?

They'd only just started to leave the swamp area when she made her move, spinning suddenly and darting off, back toward the fire filled lands. "Arkham!" She screeched as she went, running blindly and just as fast as she was able. "Arkham!" She was heading for Inferni, despite it being eaten away by flames. It might have been easy for the rest of them to just turn and go, but not Rachias. She would burn to death herself before she'd let Arkham stay behind to burn.

indent He had been prepared for everything, but not this. The moment Rachias turned he had been struck by the vicious instincts that came with those born leaders. He shouted for the others to keep going and ran after her. Even the swamp was not safe from the flames. Somewhere in the distance he heard an explosion (the city, Christ, the fire had reached the city) and this propelled him through the swamp. Soon enough he saw her back. Rachias, no! He shouted, reaching forward and grabbing her arm. She had to stop. They were halfway through the swamp and the fire wasn’t far off.

She couldn't have been lucky enough for them to just not notice her slip away, though the fact that she was shrieking his name even before she'd gotten more than a few feet away surely didn't help. She'd made it half way through the swamp before he'd caught up to her, close enough that he was able to reach out and grab her. This didn't stop the persistent hybrid though, instead she jerked violently, intending to go on. "Let me go Gabriel!" She shouted, her words a mesh of anger and fear and sadness. Arkham was his brother too. How could he not understand? "I have to get Arkham!" He was strong though, much stronger than she, and she wasn't able to pull away from him.

Finally, in a rush of varied emotions, Rachias spun around to face him. "Let me GO!" And she swung at him, fist clenched as tightly as she could get it. There was no real target, no real aim. She'd stun him maybe, then she could get away and find Arkham.

indent As she struggled he held on, as persistent as a bear trap. She couldn’t leave, she couldn’t go back. He had lost two siblings to wolves and refused to lose another by fire. It couldn’t be his fault. Not again. He opened his mouth to speak, intending to tell her this. At that moment, her hand came flying up and caught him in the face, in his jaw. Gabriel’s teeth clicked together smartly and he felt them close on his tongue. Blood filled his mouth and he swore, spat, and a vicious growl escaped his throat. For a moment, he looked ready to rip her limb from limb—and the hand around her arm tightened, claws digging into skin.
indent Self control, above all things, gripped him like a vice. “Stop it,” he said lowly, coldly. His tone was more dangerous then a scream. “You getting killed isn’t going to help him.” He spat again, flecks of blood flying onto his fur. “Arkham is going to find us,” he said with certainty. “We have to go, Rachias.” Another mouthful of blood went to the ground, and he looked up with a start as another explosion rocked the ground to the north. “Come on,” he said, pulling her with him as he began to head towards the others.

She was, perhaps, just as stunned as Gabriel when her fist reached his jaw. Her hand drew back quickly, dropped, and she stared at him only for a moment. Her worry for Arkham was greater than any worry of repercussions. They couldn't understand. They didn't know how much the girl loved him. She winced as his grip tightened, as claws pricked at her skin, but it didn't stop her. The girl tugged, desperate to get away. His words made her ears fall back, pleading with him silently. It wouldn't work though, he wouldn't let her go.

The explosion startled her and when she turned to look off in the direction that it had come from, Gabriel started to move, dragging her along behind him. Her struggle began once more, though this time more out of desperation. She turned tugged and pulled, turned away from him and tried to walk the other way. "Arkham!" She scream again, the panic slowly fading from her voice. "Arkham!" Again, but as the word faded off her lips it was nothing more than a desperate sob. "I have to find Arkham." She stated then, even as her brother drug her away, her voice a mess of quiet sobs. Rachias cried and sobbed as Gabriel drug her away, stumbling, never turning away from the burning lands behind her.

indent He heard her scream his name and wished desperately that their brother would appear, would hear her, would do something. The fire alone had voice here, and the fire hissed and screamed and roared and laughed. They had to go. They had no choices left. So Gabriel held onto her, never looking back. What was done was done, and he couldn’t change it. What the Voice said was God’s will and God’s will was ultimate. If Arkham lived, it was God’s will. He prayed that this would be the case, for even now, he could swear that some of the screaming was not the fire, but those caught in its destruction.
