Scorpius! sswm: 1086

His young heart did no longer pound at night as he dwelled within the mountains. However, Itachi found himself wondering whether or not he would ever get accustomed to the deep holes in the earth. It wasn’t natural. He was often found sitting by one of the many entrances to the caves in late evening, hoping to get a glimpse of the glittering entities up there, displayed against dark velvet. What was so captivating about it? They glittered and pulsed, and Itachi Lykoi firmly believed that it was the very essence of life he witnessed up there in the blackened sky. The young male knew nothing of science and the actual truths about the distant stars, but that was no handicap of his. No, it made it possible for him to dream his dreams and make up his world on his own. And it could be a beautiful world,, even if was a hell, as Naniko D’Angelo had said.

Yes, lovely Naniko.. Has she saved or doomed him? It depended how he chose to look at his situation, but there was little sorrow in his pale hued chest compared to what could have been. Inferni was steadily moving into the past within his mind, and Anathema was his new, permanent home. That was how he wished it to be though, even if they lived under the earth unlike his species. Weren’t they supposed to roam under the pale blue light of the moon and sing for their lives? Itachi was not certain of such things, for instinct did not play as big role in the modern canines’ lives anymore. There was enough in the Lykoi to know what he could long for, but he did not have enough of it to actually ache for it. Even so, the blonde knew that he would eventually settle on the surface of the pack lands rather than within the caves.

His form was barely lit by the scattered, pale light from above. Even by night, he could not hide away. Dressed in pale gold, he couldn’t easily use shadows as well as some. It was not an issue, really, but sometimes he wondered, thinking about some of his so called pack mates and their blessed, ebony hues. Then again, was he a creature that wished to hide away? A pallid smirk appeared on a still, youthful face at this. Was he not meant for greater things? Itachi did not lack his family’s arrogance the least. Halo had failed at many things when it came to motherhood, but the natural pride at his blood was there, despite having been exiled from his home and everyone that had cared about him. Kaena had been more his mother than anything, but something was surely wrong with him since he had been able to let go of her so easily. Something was wrong with him, inside. He believed the Aquila had seen this.

The seated youth rose silently on four, pale paws and took a few experimental steps out from the cave’s hovering mouth of an entrance. Deep scarlet framed by artist’s purple remained attached to the sky above. Loneliness was not a cruel thing of destruction in his world. Itachi had always been alone, more or less. He had not been brought into this life with siblings by his side, and there had not been any other puppies in Inferni to play with as he grew and moved into the caves with his great grandmother. He knew there were puppies here, nestled within the depths of the tunnels, but he had never made out to attempt to pin down their current location. They were too young, and Itachi was secretly convinced that it was too late for him to know innocence as they did. He had already proven to those who had been close to him that he was capable of murder—it had only been chance that had saved Kaena Lykoi’s life and nothing more. He knew he would have pushed her into her death if he hadn’t been interrupted by another relative before the deed was finished.

Another step brought him completely out in the sparse light consisting of blue and grays. How fascinating it was to see the night drain the world’s colours away. It was January—though Itachi was completely unaware of date and month, as he simply was--and there was not that much colour left now, as the frozen water had come from above to claim the earthen kingdom in its lack of colours; in pale white. It reminded the young Lykoi of the flawless hues of Naniko. How strange it was that he could give in so easily to this individual. He had yet to investigate his own mind for answers. Not because he feared the possible answer he could risk to face, but because it was not really important. It did not matter, truly. Things were what they were and he accepted the hellish world he was bound to, and would function as best he could until it was time to be released and fall even further from grace. There was no heaven for this one, but that too was something that the young Lykoi male had accepted. He was a horribly flawed child.

A dark cold nose loomed mere inches above the ground as he inhaled the world’s scents. Frosted earth, rocks and other canines, accompanied by the air’s movement, revealing a magnitude of scents from the area around him, some which he would never be able to recognize. The young one felt himself suddenly wishing to go hunting. It was a skill he would have to improve greatly, and now could have been the time if the world had not been veiled in such darkness. Instead he turned slightly, moving up to the side of the cave’s entrance and further up along the rocky territory, though not far. Would it be so long before the sun would rise again? Sleep was not something Itachi required heavy amounts of, despite inhabiting a growing body with needs. His sleep’s pattern was nowhere near stable either, and he suspected it was due to living underground, where darkness loomed both night and day. Anathema knew to use fire well, but that was not enough to settle the hybrid’s inner clock.

Make a wish when your childhood dies.

It seemed the D'Angelo pup differed from the Lykoi in almost every way. Where the Lykoi had a pale pelt of golden straw, the boy he was soon to meet was as black as night with only a few silver filaments beginning to sprout in here and there. They were both young, but Scorpius was still vibrant and full of childish vigor where the Lykoi was more subdued. Loneliness was welcome to the Lykoi and detested by the D'Angelo. When alone, Scorpius would do everything he could to seek out a partner in crime, or someone with which to bide his time. He was terribly curious, as any keen cub his age should be, and wanted to know what everyone else knew, so questions were oft rolling off the boy's sociable little tongue. He drank in the information from others, filing it away in his growing mind to refer to as soon as he needed it. Naniko's boy was growing fast and thankfully so was his wit.

For the bulk of his impressionable months, Scorpius had lived within the dens of Anathema. He hardly remembered the time before, the cult that Naniko had birthed him into and then deserted. They traveled for a long while, mostly with Scorpius slumbering in Naniko's arms, or riding in the wicker basket with his russet cousin Juju. When he thought back on it hard enough he could remember sections of land and a few events – like trying to wander off from his mother only to be plucked off the ground and carried for the next few miles – but mostly those days had blurred together and have been replaced by better, more useful ones.

He enjoyed the open terrain of Anathema, but the boy was certainly growing accustomed to the maze like hallways of the cavern, and since he was unfamiliar with any other way of life, he loved it. The boy had barely set a paw outside of the den since the day his curiosity sent him wandering off and right into the face of trouble. Now he spent most of is time trailing the veins of the underground passageway and had compiled a fairly impressive internal map of Anathema's infrastructure. Living within the caves was improving his senses greatly, too. Except for small tendrils of light that trailed into the depths from the many entrances or ventilation cracks in the stone, there was no light in the dens, and in order to successfully navigate the shadowy passages at night he had to rely on his sense of smell and his hearing. Before he used to bump into rocks and walls at even the slightest turn, but now he was growing skilled at navigating by scent and sound alone.

And tonight his sharpening senses would find him another mate to talk to, if only for a little while. The pup padded slowly through the tunnels of Anathema with no real destination in mind. Usually he searched for his mother or for his dear brother Harlowe, but Naniko was off with more pack business and Harlowe had given him the slip (though Scorpius did not know his brother had intentionally ditched him – he just assumed his older brother worked hard to help the pack, and forgot to bring him along). All Juju wanted to do this evening was nap and kept whining when Scorpius chewed his ears, so he quickly gave up that game and left the hollow that was his aunt's den in search of better tidings.

It was his sense of smell that tipped him off first, since the Lykoi around the bend was unmoving at first and thus silent. A scent wafted through the tunnels on the light dusk breeze and Scorpius's dark nose detected it at once. His paws stopped and he tilted his head up for a better surveillance. This was not a scent he had ever detected before. His curiosity peaked, he cocked his head and went on, trotting forward at a quicker pace now. It sounded like whoever was there was moving now, coming towards him, he could hear the whisper of paws. His tail curled up as it often did with his more dominant personality, and his attention was forward as he rounded the corner. The dim light from the night spilled into the caves from the nearby entrance and encircled the Lykoi, casting only shadowy silhouette for Scorpius's slow adjusting eyes to see.

The Lykoi was older than him, evident by the difference in stature, but still smaller than a full adult. He could make out little else with his eyes and would have to wait for better light, but his nose did alert him to the scent of another pack on the creature's fur. The scent was old, mottled, and fading, replaced with the stony scents that were common of Anathema's members.

Scorpius blinked once, trying to will his eyes to adjust faster, and grinned at the other. “Hey, who are you? I'm Scorpius.” Sometimes he would introduce himself as Scorpius, Naniko's son but to him the appendage was redundant because everyone should already just know who his mother was. They all knew her, for she was their leader, so naturally, why would they not know that the black pup that wandered Anathema's halls was her child?

Apologies for wait <3 300+

Sunset eyes were polluted by the scarce light within these dark tunnels as they slowly started their search for black against dark. Tiny puppy teeth glistered at him, white against the black hues of the D’Angelo child. Itachi’s gaze narrowed somewhat, but he could recognized the edges of a grin. He judged it as a sign of recognition, but was proved wrong as the midnight child asked who he was. Eyebrows could have lifted, but the Lykoi child’s facial features were carved in stone and unmoving now with only that flaring scarlet gaze to reveal that there was life within his blonde form. There was no burning discontent within the exiled prince’s dark gaze, but there was silent wonder. The other boy seemed unable to recognize him. He found that this displeased him; the fact that he had not been special enough in the younger child’s world to be noticed. It was few months ago, and only once, but he found displeasure at this anyway.

”I know who you are, I'm Itachi, remember?” the prince of betrayal revealed, voice finding depth in scarce echoes carried by their rocky surroundings. The youth’s tail moved slowly behind him, and he could not decide exactly how intrusive he found the younger male’s presence. As long as he was not asked to play, it should not be too damn uncomfortable. Itachi had refused play once before and could do so again without allowing a tumour to fester within his chest. He was not an utterly uncaring creature, but he did not go far to please those around him unless there was definitive reason to do so. Scorpius was the prince of these caves, but Itachi’s was blue and royal as well. Even if his family had turned against him they could not steal the crown that was his by birth right. ”What do you want?” The blonde male asked with a voice that not at all was unkind despite the words. Patience lingered behind them, for there could always be a reason why the other child was here.
