The young wolf’s feet had brought him away from the Anathema territory for once. His paws wanted to steer him northwest towards the lands that had once been his home, but the youth knew better than to return to the clan with his tainted crown lifted high for all to see. He was perceived a traitor of various kinds now. To his clan; to his kind, his royal blood. They had all misunderstood his intentions, and he knew that there was no way he could repent for what he had done. What more, was that there was no way they could have made him admit the flaws of his logic even if they had been willing to offer the young Lykoi prince a second chance. Hell was on this earth, and those who walked on it were infested by demons. He carried his own as well; could feel the black taint pulse together with his young heart’s flawless rhythm. It told him what to do, and he believed in its treacherous lies. Some were not meant to live any longer, but they rejected the saviour when he appeared to guide them home to paradise. Would it be right to allow the sinners to continue to wallow in their own filth? Itachi did not have an answer to that, but he knew it was wrong.

Perhaps he should have questioned that very logic, as he seemed to be the flawed shadow amongst the sane, but the thing was that he felt normal. He was no ordinary child, and he would be no ordinary adult, but he firmly believed in greater things. There was immerse amounts of sin here, and thought he was part of that sin, he could help replenish these toxic waters with meaning. No. Perhaps he simply was mad, but the taste was sweet when little else was. They all struggled to survive out here, and Itachi Lykoi was no different than them at that. His pale golden form was growing, readying his body for adulthood. Then again he had never felt like an accomplished child, and he wondered when he had lost that childish innocence everyone was talking about. He was not cute, he was not sweet. He was another Lykoi prince born out of sin, this much has been established. Was it strange that he was so flawed? The male understood more today than before. There was a brute out there that he could rightfully call “father”, but that being had been absent in his life and would remain so. His mother had been forced and Itachi was the result product of that session of one sided, cardinal love.

It did not bother him much though, because he was who he was because that was who he had chosen to be. Dark scarlet eyes were fixated on his path of ice and rocks, though the territory was slowly turning into wooden scenery that would be lush and green in any season but this. The cold did not bother him much though, but sometimes the chill managed to get through regardless. Therefore it was pleasant to stay in motion when he did not lurk through the dark caves where the Anathema pack resided. The pack was one he could get accustomed to and learn to appreciate. His view of his queen had not changed much since the first time he met her. Hopefully she would be able to perceive him as something else but a damn child once he grew into adulthood and become a proper part of the pack. Perhaps, perhaps. The young prince held on to his dreams and goals. They were what kept him going, even at such a young age. He stayed away from the other puppies of the pack; had no interest of interacting with them as long as they remained what they were; foolish children that only wanted to play and have fun. What was fun? To enjoy oneself? Perhaps, but he did not find pleasure in playing childish games without purpose. No, he preferred his own, unique style of entertainment, even if it was wrong according to general morale.

Naked branches with greedy fingers clawed at his thick fur, and the Lykoi huffed impatiently, wishing he could have chosen a path with less obstacles. Snapping at a set of twigs in annoyance, his growing frame crouched closer to the ground to help him pass through the worst growth without getting completely entangled and stuck in sharp branch fingers. The area opened up somewhat as he reached a frozen stream. His mind told him that it would be easier to follow the frozen water to ensure that he would not get completely lost, but he had barely though the thought before oversized paws decided to slip on the slick surface against his will and send him downwards along the frozen water path. A gasp followed by unaltered whine escaped him as he continued to slide the wrong way. Dull claws did nothing to lessen the gaining speed as he continued to ride the unpleasant slide, seeing no escape as he fell on to his belly and got some added speed as a result.

Element looked out into the forest, sitting at the edge of a frozen pool that followed a stream that flowed downhill. He had wanted to fish for some of the tasty, silver little fish that often swam here, but he realized now that that was most certainly not an option. He wondered what happened to the aquatic creatures when the pool froze through and through - did they freeze too, and thaw out in the spring? Or did they just die? He wondered what it'd be like to wake up one day and be frozen in a block of ice for three months. He shivered at the thought - and get his fur all wet? And not be able to move! What a horrible idea. He was glad he survived on land, where he could move freely.

He watched the deep blue depths, thinking about all these things, when he heard a faint whining sound. It seemed to have come...upstream? He looked in the direction of the top of the stream and saw a canine racing down the slide. He seemed very unhappy, and was just a gold blur as Element saw him. He watched all the way down to when the - wolf? coyote? dog? - crashed into the snowbank just on top of the frozen pool.

Element curled his tail around himself and looked at the canine. He saw now that he was a hybrid - part wolf, part coyote. He was a deep gold with darker spots around him, and a paler underside. His eyes were a deep crimson. Element cocked his head. "Having fun?" he teased lightly.

This was nothing short of horrible, and his form turned and shuffled as he attempted to gain some kind of control of this highly unpleasant ride. His whine continued as the speed only improved further. It was inane, to be honest, but right now the boy did not even have time to ponder whether or not he would survive this horrendous ride. Deep scarlet remained wide open as he flew past trees and bushes. There was no way he would be able to push and claw his way back to the shores with his current speed, and he crouched together and prepared for whatever obstacle he would eventually crash into. There was eventually light in the end of the tunnel, this in form of a mass of snow where he finally crashed face first into. Mouth filled with the cold, white matter and his limbs wailed about as he worked his way out of the snow prison he had been thrown into. There was relief in his young heart though, for at least he was not moving at that ridiculous speed any longer. Emerging from the snow bank, he shook his face wildly and huffed, experiencing the full effect of the adrenaline that had pumped his veins full of gruesome awareness.

A voice rose to catch his attention, and dark eyes immediately darted to the pitch black creature with eyes in a similar hue to the lovely Naniko D’Angelo. This was not eyes in the face of a canine, and deep scarlet narrowed as he realized that this was a creature he had never laid eyes on in the past. What was it? The answer should be simple, really, but not if he had ever seen such a peculiar creature. It had a tail and four legs and everything was as it should be in that sense, but it was genuinely odd. Its face was too short to be a canine, but he was bright enough to determine that this thing was nowhere near related to canines. Muzzle seemed to wrinkle slightly as the male quietly displayed a set of milky white fangs, though the words that had been spoken to him had not been unpleasant, though he believed that he had just been ridiculed. It damaged his already injured pride, and it was not pleasant to know that the black carnivore had witnessed his uncool slide down into the mass of snow.

The young boy shook his fur, feeling the light chill settle against his skin. Fucking cold. Head tilted as eyes returned to the strange animal again, but he decided against dignifying the question with an answer. Instead he pushed the focus back to the green eyed animal itself. ”What are you supposed to be?” The young prince knew that he was rude, but he thought it should be allowed, stressed and bewildered as he was. Blonde tail lifted high in quiet superiority. This animal was smaller than he, but it did not seem like some sort of puppy. The eyes belonged to an intellectual adult, he could establish that much. Itachi did not adore his own ignorance, but there was a first time for everything, and this was the first time he had laid eyes on a cat.

wc: 307 // man im getting tired ><

Element watched as the coywolf dug himself out of the snowbank and shook of any snow that remained on his person. He was quite angry, it seemed. Distraught. He was running into quite a many distraught people these days - first was the young man at Quartz Shoreline; he thought his name was Harlowe? Anyway, he'd been quite unsettled, and so was this one. They both smelled of an unfamiliar pack mixed with the fading scent of Inferni. How strange. This new pack seemed to harbour troubled young men, it seemed. They smelled of the underground and the mountains. Did canines live underground? Could they? He supposed they could, or did; he'd heard of caves and tunnels in the Halcyon mountains, and wasn't surprised that someone eventually took up residence in there.

As Element's gaze met the other one's, he softened; he guessed he shouldn't have teased the young one, however lightly and in play it had been. He heard as the coywolf asked what Element was, and Element understood. He had once met a coyote who hadn't known what Element was - his name was Izaak, although that encounter had ended rather badly, Izaak eventually walking away in tears. He hoped that didn't happen this time.

"I am a cat," Element said. "Are you alright?" The cat had been saying that a lot lately, he reflected. He did want to know if the coywolf was injured in his endeavors, however; he couldn't bear to have laughed at the young man and then learned that he was, indeed, hurt. After all, there could have been sharp shards of glass hidden in the snowbank, and the man's pelt was so golden red that he would never have known if he were bleeding or not. He certainly hoped he wasn't.

Why was it that the snow’s cold touch could linger on his skin long after he had shaken off all trace of it? There was a touch of moisture in his golden pelt as some had melted to soak his fur, but only slightly so. But he could still feel it, and though the was not about to freeze just yet, he knew that there was only a matter of time before his adrenaline spiked veins would chill out and turn him from hot to cold. Blonde fur rustled as he gave a snort; avoiding looking to the direction he had come from only because the creature remained a mystery to him. The Lykoi prince was not about to take his eyes away from the thing, though it was surely too small to prove to be a threat. There seemed to be a softer hue lingering in the other animal’s eyes, and the youth was not certain if that was better or worse. He did not think he needed pity or sympathy. He should not have paraded onto the stream and slip in the first time. Well, lesson had been well learned, that was certain.

The word that described the black animal was an alien one as well, but he supposed it helped a little, at least. He kept his head low and close to his body, but could not determine why he chose to feel threatened still. There was a question of concern though, and he took a moment to pay attention to his body, but could not detect anything besides his damaged pride and pounding heart. The young boy shook his head brusquely, reluctant to maintain eye contact with this unknown creature. There were wolves and dogs and coyotes, but this cat did not look like any canines he knew of. ”That’s not a type of canine?” He did not like to feel hopeless, but he was no closer at discovering what kind of family this animal belonged to beside the fact that, as it had said, it was a cat. Paws slowly brought him closer to the smaller creature, though that was only to get away from the slippery surface of the frozen lake. He did not feel secure walking on top of ice, especially when there was the risk of water running under. He had never learned to swim, and would not risk anything without a reason.

”I’m okay,” he replied, his belated reply to the animal with the green eyes. Secure, hard soil was under his growing body now, and the youth felt some of the tension leave him. It did not mean that he was anywhere near comfortable with the presence of this creature, but he could feel curiosity rise. Nostrils flared as he drew in the feline’s scent, finding again that it was of an unfamiliar calibre. ”I’ve never seen anything like you before,” he admitted, settling on the frozen shore or the small lake that absorbed the small stream. A sigh released him, but it was merely a result of his stressed body calming down. He had survived this and would put it behind him.

"I'm not a canine," Element assured the coywolf. He couldn't help but be reminded again of Izaak, who had at first thought that Element was some sort of deformed coyote. At a closer examination of this hybrid, Element concluded that he was, in fact, just a puppy at perhaps less than one year. He reminded Element of Nayru and other puppies that he'd encountered - Denali and Alder - and although he was perhaps not as young as those, he was still a puppy, young and inexperienced. Element couldn't blame him for not knowing about cats. "I am in the genus felis, the family felidae, and am closely related to big cats such as mountain lions, wildcats, and bobcats; a different species from canines entirely" He wasn't sure if his scientific breakdown would clear things up for the young man, but he hoped he established that cats were a different species entirely, even in different classes and genuses. He had been interested in reading about his scientific roots in Halifax, but just read far enough to remember those juicy little facts. He had already known that his blood had bobcat in it.

Element nodded as the coywolf assured that he was okay as he was now on solid ground. Element smiled, understanding of his eagerness to get off the ice; Element wouldn't go on it if his tail was about to be cut off. He wouldn't want to run the risk of the ice cracking and Element falling into icy cold water. He shuddered at the thought and flicked his tail, banishing such things from his mind.

The ebony feline scented the pique in the young coywolf's interest rise, and saw his nostrils flare to pick up the cat's scent. He admitted that he had never seen anything like the cat before, and Element smiled, remembering when he had first encountered a snail. "Don't worry," he assured the pup. "Not knowing something is nothing to be ashamed of. In fact, it is a good thing, for there are plenty of things to learn in this life." Element had found himself talking a lot more than he usually did, and wondered what it was about this clipped coywolf that made him interested. He was curious, and that was good - there was a ridiculous human saying that curiosity killed the cat, but he knew that that wasn't so. In fact, it was the opposite; curiosity made the cat alive and happy, knowing that there was always something more to discover.

A brief nod was given at the revelation that settled his mind. Not a canine then and deep burgundy sought the differences between the two. The slim, yet shorten muzzle, accompanied with large ears and eyes that he now discovered to be of a different calibre than his own. He wished to draw closer for a better look. This boy was always impressed by the qualities of the polished orbs where the mind peer out to observe the world. Ears were reluctant to draw forth to easier catch the well pronounced words offered though, for he wondered about the creature’s feelings. Stupidity was not something the flawed prince was fond of, but he knew he possessed it to some degree, for he was ignorant. Whether his lack of knowledge could be excused by his young age was not a question he held an answer to, but he hoped not.

Lips curled slightly, though it could not be considered a smile as such. It was deep intrigue of this animal. It was not a wolf but knew how to talk their language. Now, the puppy knew not if it was something unique to this cat or not to know this language, and he decided against asking and instead made a not that this was an ability that the... genus felis... felidae family could acquire just like every canine. Tail laced with girl whirled along his hindquarters when it was revealed that he should have recognized the word “cat”. If he reeled through memory, he would recall warnings about the large animals, as they could be very dangerous with sharp claws and fangs, even for a fully grown wolf. It meant that they would look similar to this innocent creature. Looks could still betray, and eyes sought the tiny paws for large, menacing claws that could rip through everything.

”Whoa,” he said, feeling for once at his proper age as he scrolled through the lesson he just had been given. The young one’s mind was soothed by the next words provided by the interesting feline, and as he was told to worry, he followed the advice to perfection. Learning was indeed something he needed a lot of, and the youth enjoyed to discover truths and facts around him. It was fascinating to discover how his surrounding worked, and what was what. This was a cat, and it was a completely different species, as much as an elk and a squirrel. Or perhaps not, because from what he could see from the feline’s smile and remember from spooky tales, these animals hunted and ate other, lesser animals as well. Who was it that towered on the top of the food chain then? He wanted to ask this, but found his focus reel back to the unique eyes of the smaller creature.

Finally, his growing form took a few steps forth, peering intently at the kitty. ”Your eyes are different,” he stated, confident that the cat was aware of this as well. It seemed to be a very intelligent creature. Its words had impressed the young canine soul, and now he conjured new questions to launch if the small feline remained willing to function as a source. ”Are there many of you around here?” An inhale was taken and another question was immediately served, ”Do you live in packs?”

beep! sorry for the delay!

Element smiled as the younger canine gave a small word of astonishment at the short description of the feline race that the black cat had just given him. He himself had been impressed when he had first learned those words - they seemed very different, almost alien, in the way they seemed to exude intelligence and general interest. It was like it was another world, but Element wasn't very interested in science - just that little bit about cats. He was content with just being in the world, but didn't know much about how it worked. He had yet to understand any of the words in the books that tried to explain it, at least. But he could imagine how it would amaze someone that is young and impressionable that there were indeed hidden knowledge and secrets that had yet to be explored.

He also smiled as he mentioned his eyes being different. "Thank you," he said earnestly. He had always taken being different as a compliment; he enjoyed being different from the crowd, standing out, being independent from anyone else. It was exciting and new and different, like exploring the world or traveling to Souls had been. Something never done before; and if it had, it was by the people who had dared to be different, instead of uniform and the same. No one wanted to be uniform and the same; but for some reason, so many were. Being different was like being a jewel; rare and precious, at least in this strange world. And no one was the same - each one had their own dark secrets, their desires, their pains and pleasures and things they may have been guilty about and did anyway. Secrets. And Element enjoyed being a cat in a canine world, simply because that was who he was, and that would never change.

"I haven't seen many others since being here," Element said in response to the pup's question of if there were more cats. "Perhaps they don't like being around canines; most of us steer clear of them, actually. Aside from me." Another thing Element was different from, it seemed. He was sure that most cats would stare at him quizzically and ask why he was conversing with dogs when he could be in the fine and sophisticated company of felines like himself. The answer? Well, he had found long ago that his canine companions weren't so different from cats after all.

"And we don't live in packs," he said. "Rather the opposite; felines are usually solitary creatures, except for some who have...lifelong companions." Element's voice lapsed for just an instant, his memory lingering on Flower. But he had made his peace with her death, and although she would no longer walk beside him, she would always have a place in his heart.

Apologies for wait 300+

The strange critter thanked him, as if it had been a compliment, the comment about his eyes. Well, it had been one. Scarlet eyes held a level of adoration for the emerald that he could not hide from their shine. Ears moved in distraught thoughts about this feline creature—he found the smaller creature definitely captivating. And more words were brought forth by the other animal’s lips; bringing clarity to the possibility why this cat was the first he had laid his eyes upon. Truly, this meeting had happened on chance—the boy had never meant to slide down on the frozen stream and end up in this area. Now, he was glad he had. There was not much child within him, but his curiosity was vivid and pondering, and to be able to interact with such an alien creature as this was very exciting.

Why did the feline not steer away from canines? ”Why?” the boy quietly asked, wondering what made the cat wish to interact with creatures not within his species. A childish thought caught the boy’s attention; that he’d probably like to be a cat with confident solitude. He adored the idea of being lonely, but the moment he had fled from the decorated borders of Inferni he had run straight to Naniko and the pack that was in the middle of being established in the northeast at that time. The youth feared he wouldn’t be able to survive alone. ”Oh,” the boy replied simply, more or less only to establish that he was paying close attention and understood the thing about cats and packs. What was a lifelong companion like? A mate or a close friend?

He knew wolves often found mates, but he had never actually seen a canine couple. He had no father, and his mother had never spoken of any, except when she once realized the nature of the impregnation. The subject had never been touched since. He did not believe he was sin reincarnated, but it was highly possible in this hellish world. Sunset eyes started to wander now, in pursuit of another feline creature nearby. ”Do you have a lifelong companion?” the question was invasive, but was not meant as such. It was the curiosity that drove him on, and he sought information where he could get it.
