WC: 173 OOC: Denali is a bit drugged up, and this is predated Jan 16. I know I said I’d have it up last night but I fell asleep writing it ; ;

He was feeling good, after the meeting with the nice Nuki, he couldn’t think that he felt better, in fact he has so much energy and when he found himself at home he didn’t think he could stay in one spot, he was so full of energy today, so when he had fould a ball that he and Artemis had brought back from the toy Store in Halifax he started throwing it up and catching it, though it seemed his own aim was off and he dropped it more than caught it, he was having fun and that’s all that mattered. Normally he would be playing with one of his siblings but it seemed he wasn’t going to, he wanted to but he didn’t want to take up any chance with getting in again, well if someone saw him outside he was sure they would come out and play, right? Yeah that’s right, so he kept playing by himself in hopes that one of his siblings or friends would come out and play.

eeee! I'm pumped. <3 Thanks for getting it up! 530 words.

The young silver girl was growing restless with the cold, bored of staying inside and frustrated with all of the snow outside. The young Marino did not know what she was supposed to do with herself, but she had come to the simple conclusion that she absolutely hated the winter. The warmer months were so much more preferrable, and she simply could not wait until they returned. When they did, she would even be a year old! It would be exciting to be seen as an adult by the pack, as she was in the transition rankings. Artemis had been seeing herself as more than a puppy for quite some time now, and she did so wish that everyone else would, too. The girl spent a great deal of time adventuring outside the pack lands, though she did not wander too far, as she did not want to worry her mother and father more than she already did. Artemis knew she was more... stressful, she supposed, than any of her siblings, but she simply could not help it.

Knotting her scarf around her slender neck, the adventurous girl nearly bounced out of the room, bounding down the stairs of the manor and quickly through the main room. She did not pay much attention to see if there was anyone sitting by the fire, instead dashing outside as quickly as she could on two legs. Considering this form was still relatively new to her, only a few months of use, the young Marino had grown very comfortable in it in such a short period of time. It was easy for her to switch between her four and two-legged forms, and she was more than comfortable in both of them, though she knew that it was not a view point that everyone in the pack shared. As far as she knew, the pack was made up entirely of luperci, though she was certain that there must have been at least a few that preferred one form over the other. Not everyone could be comfortable in all forms, and though she would not admit it, this was true for her, as well. Artemis did not use her halfling form, for it was far too bulky and unpleasant to be in. She truly had no use for it, either, so it went neglected.

Stepping outside, Artemis spotted her adopted brother, silver tail wagging excitedly behind her at seeing him. Surely he would want to play with her! "Hey, Denali!" she called out, jogging toward him with vigor. Playing with Denali had always been more fun than playing with Silvano or Parker, both of whom were too serious to go on Artemis' many adventures. Denali, however, was always willing to follow her lead, and she very much enjoyed that "What are you doing?" she asked, eyeing the ball he was tossing. The young Marino recognized it as something that they had brought back from their last adventure, and she was glad to see that he was playing with it. That adventure had been super fun! Soft blue eyes glanced at the manor, and then her gaze travelled back to the ball her brother was throwing.

Denali was so very energetic, he had gotten it from the leaf that Nuki had given him only hours ago… and he felt like he could just take on the whole world. He had the best of the world right here right now, the leave had been sucked dry though it was still hidden in his gums, and right now it was just him the ball and the oh so wonderful plant. Throwing the ball up, he tried catching it, though it fell out of his hands a few times. He didn’t know that he had company until Artemis spoke asking him what he was doing.

imthrowingaballtryingtocatchit!

He said really quickly, unable to keep his voice from going too quickly. He was just overpowered by the stuff, though he didn’t care he gave his sister and very good friend a big grin.

Playwithme!

He said then without warning threw the ball her way. He wagged his tail, which was going fast enough that it was hard to see, just a huge mix of blurred browns moving in a semi circle, and his thoughts were jumbled… as he couldn’t keep his mind just on one thing. He just knew, he. Had. To. play.

Though she never was quiet in the way she moved, being one of the most exuberent members of the pack of Dreamers, it did not seem that her younger brother noticed her approach until she spoke to him. Artemis laughed happily at his reaction to her arrival, his words merging together with the speed with which he spoke. Denali was usually as excitable as she was, but this was even strange for him! The young Marino girl shook her hair back, inhaling the cold, crisp air of the winter season. Even if she did not like the winter very much at all—and she most assuredly did not!—she could still enjoy a bit of time outside in this temperature with her brother. After all, Artemis Marino was not the type who could happily sit inside all day, and she was getting sick and tired of being cooped up in the manor.

Soft blue eyes followed the path of the ball as he continued to toss it in the air, and she let out a small sound of surprise as her sent it her way. She caught it clumsily, sticking out her tongue at him, but she was smiling and laughing. Though it could have been misconstrued as something bad, the young girl truly meant no harm in the taunting gesture. She tossed it back to him and walked closer to him, tail still wagging. "Why are you talking so fast, Denali?" she asked curiously. Obviously he was just really excited to see her! As far as she knew, there was no other reason for his speech to be so rapid, but he was probably going to run out of breath really quickly if he kept talking like he was. She grinned at him, happy to see him so energetic. They were an awesome pair of friends, definitely, better than any!

Denali shrugged, he didn’t think he was going that fast in fact he thought he was going to slow, things were going to slow, her own speech seemed to take forever. He didn’t mind though, he felt like he had the power of twenty horses. That he could do anything and he knew she couldn’t because she didn’t have the leaf, but he remembered he only had that one… and he was told to keep it a secret. He caught the ball and laughed, it was one of the few times he was able to catch it in all his glory.

Dunnojustfeelgood!

He hated lying to her… but this wasn’t lying this was just leaving something out a little. He tossed the ball back to her. His eyes playful, oh this was much more fun than actually throwing it himself. The ball went a little to the left of Artemis though and he wasn’t sure if she was going to catch it or not.

There was no way that the young silver Marino could argue with her adopted brother’s logic there. If he felt good enough that he wanted to talk that fast, then she couldn’t really say anything, because she knew that he was just as excitable as she was. Some time soon, she would need to stop thinking about Denali as her adopted brother, even if that was what he really was, since they weren’t born from the same parents. He was just as good as her real brothers—better, even! Gotham and Silvano did not play with her the way that Denali did, and come to think of it, neither did any of her sisters. Denali really was her favorite sibling, even if he had been adopted into the family of Marinos and Sadiras, not born into it. He was as much her brother as Gotham or Silvano, as much her sibling as Amata, Cambria, or Parker was. Savina and Kansas loved him as much as they loved her. He was her brother, and that was that.

“Hey!” she shouted defiantly as the ball sailed past her on the left. That wasn’t fair! How was she supposed to catch it if he threw it away from her? She wasn’t really upset though, so she chased after it, bending swiftly to pick it up and turning to toss it quickly back to him. Denali seemed jittery and like he was moving too fast for himself, but that was okay, because his very good mood was rubbing off on her. She wasn’t even bothered anymore by the fact that it was so cold out and that she had been cooped up in the manor lately, because she was outside and playing with her favorite brother of all time. “How high can you throw it?” she called, still standing a short distance away from him from where she had ran to pick up the ball.

He felt bad that she did have to go chasing for the ball, and it was no fun if she couldn’t catch it. Next time he would make sure it went straight for her. The ball moved through the air at him. Coming close but as he tried to catch it he tripped over his own feet. Missing it by inches…. Stupid feet. If he didn’t have theme he would have caught it. He felt his face burn with embarrassment as he went to retrieve the ball.

Icanthrowitreallyhigh!

He said as he put his hand on the ball. He took aim this time before he threw it. He was a bit further from Artemis but he came trotting back as the ball went sailing towards her, this time, it was possible for her to catch it … or not.

Artemis stifled a giggle as her brother tripped over his own feet, not wanting him to think that she was laughing at him. She didn’t think that it was a problem if he was a little clumsy, because they usually got into a little bit of exciting trouble on their adventures, anyway, and she wasn’t always the most nimble on her feet. Besides, she had fumbled when catching it the first time that he threw it to her, so she couldn’t really laugh at him for not catching it, anyway. Obviously he was so excited and happy that he could hardly stop moving, so even though she did not know why he was talking so rapidly and was so boisterous today (though she was more than readily willing to say it was because of her!), it was not his fault that he could not catch it that time.

The young Marino smiled cheerfully at him, excited that they had found time to play together with just the two of them. She did not know where Parker or Silvano were or what they were doing, but she guessed that they were in the manor somewhere, and they probably would not have wanted to play with her and Denali, anyway. Silvano used to go on adventures with her sometimes, but he was more serious about everything than she was, and Parker was really quiet. Missa could just about always have more fun with Denali than she could with either of them, as sad as that was for her to realize. They just didn’t like to play as much, at least not in the way that she played with Denali.

Catching the ball tightly in her slender hands, Artemis looked down at it quickly. “Show me how high you can throw it! I bet I can throw it hiiiigher,” she said in a sing-song voice, friendly taunting between siblings and best friends. She didn’t really mean anything bad by it, and she hoped he knew that. They were just playing, like they always did! She would never really taunt her brother, not ever. She tossed the ball back to him eagerly, wanting to see how high he could really throw the little ball.

Denali watched as she caught the ball. He clapped his hands together in excitement when she caught it. He knew she would. It was because she was so good at just about everything. That was what he thought anyway, and playing ball was one of her best things… that was what his mind was telling him of course. Then she threw the ball back telling him he couldn’t throw it high at all. He grinned at the challenge.

I Betcha Ican throwit reallyhigh1!!

He said taking on the bet. He tried to catch the ball again but it slipped from his fingers and fell again. He rolled his eyes at his failure and grabbed the ball before it could get too far away from him. He turned back to Artemis and this time forced himself to focus on throwing as high as he could, and then the ball was in the air before he knew it and it was so very high. It soared through the air like a bird, but … it was not headed at Artemis at all. In fact it slammed onto the side of the mansion wall and fell to the porch roof where the snow greedily clung to it. Aw man! That wasn’t cool at all.

AwArtie, I’msorry!

His mind was in a fizzle from what little concentration he put into throwing the ball so he wasn’t thinking of going up to the porch roof to retrieve it. He just stood with his eyes on the roof where the ball had landed… now they couldn’t have fun at all… stupid ball… stupid snow

My next post, she'll fall, so he can yell whatever in your next one? :3 And then after she falls, he can go get Savina and/or Cambria, and the rest will just be you guys? Big Grin 500+ words.

It did not occur to her that Denali was acting strangely or out of the ordinary in any way, except that he was speaking very quickly, wish she belived was only because he was so overly excited at the time. The young silver Marino had never had any experiences with drugs, and she did not even know anything about what her sister Cambria had experienced, as the incident had been long before Artemis and her littermates had even been an idea in their parents' heads. She had never been exposed to drugs or alcohol of any kind, thankfully, and thus she did not find anything in his behavior even remotely questionable, though she should have realized that he was acting in a way that was very strange, even for a rambunctious puppy like himself.

Soft blue eyes followed the arc of the ball as it sailed up into the air, far away from herself. That in itself would not have been a problem, as she had not really been planning on catching it when he threw it that high, because she really just wanted to see how high he could throw it and if she could throw it higher. No, the problem came in when she watched it go up and up... and it didn't come down, having landed on the porch roof. Denali began apologizing immediately and Artemis felt bad, because he would not have thrown it so high and lost his ball if she had not teased him that she did not think he could throw it higher than she could. With her tongue sticking out of the corner of her mouth, the young girl made up her mind quickly about what to do.

She walked with determination to the side of the porch, gripping it tightly and swinging her legs up so that she was standing on the railing. Artemis stood up without hesitation, though it was slippery and she should have been more careful. She reached up, grasping the edge of the porch roof in her hands and pushed off with her feet, momentarily suspended in the air as she scrambled with her feet to get them on the roof. She had never climbed up on top of the manor before! Artemis stood up as soon as she felt she had enough traction and began looking for the ball. Spotting it, she ran to it and picked it up, then called out to Denali below, "Found it! Hey, Denali, do you think I could get up on the bigger roof?"

Instead of waiting for an answer, though, the young girl proceeded to pull herself up so that she was able to stand on the main part of the roof, two stories above the ground. She walked a little ways away from the porch, still clutching the ball in her hands. She could see so much from here! This was so cool! Artemis did not know if anyone had ever been up here before, but she could see the remnants of dead leaves and feathers and animal fur littering the roof. Maybe Denali could come up here too, if he could get up, and they could see if they could find anything exciting on the manor's highest part.

WC: 159 OOC: I sorry for keeping this waiting… I was all “BLEEEHHH” Sad

He did not protest as she moved her way through the snow up to the porch where she found her way onto the roof… Denali couldn’t do that… he couldn’t even touch the roof from the railing. He watched in awe as Artemis scoured the roof until she yelled that she found it. He wagged his tail as she held it up, then she wondered out loud, and Denali did the same in his head. His eyes were not able to focus right but he could still see her move higher. Wow she was the bravest of the most brave wolves! Denali thought.

Wow! How’s it look from up there?

He asked, he was starting to move forward so that he too could try to get onto the roof. It was so high though… and he was so short, but right now doubt meant nothing to him. He was a super wolf, Nuki made sure of that much!

It's okay, lovey! <3 400+ words.

The young Marino was so excited to be where she was, a place that she could only assume she wasn't really supposed to be, that she nearly forgot why she had gone up there in the first place. Artemis did not drop the rubber ball she had gone up there to get because, in the back of her mind, she knew that she needed to keep it in her hands so that she could give it to her best friend Denali, but she was no longer thinking about the ball or, admittedly, even her best friend down on the ground. She could hardly believe she was standing on the roof! It was so cool to be that high up in a place that she assumed no one else had been, because she knew it was kind of dangerous and she knew that her mom and dad would not be happy with her if they caught her up there (and imagine the heart attack she'd give her medically-trained sisters and the pack's nanny!). Such things had never stopped her before, though, and they certainly did not now.

There were icy patches beneath the snow and Artemis slid a bit as she walked toward the center of the roof, but she steadied herself with a cheerful laugh. Though she knew this was not something she was supposed to be doing, the young silver girl did not pay mind to this. She loved adventure and she loved exploring, and this was the perfect opportunity to do those things. Denali was not forgotten, but he certainly was not the first thing she was thinking about as she walked to the edge of the roof on the opposite side of the building from the porch. As such, his voice caught her off guard and she turned sharply, surprise etching on her young, rambunctious face as she realized that she could not get her footing again. She scrambled, her arms flying out as she tried to stop herself from falling, but she could not regain her balance as she toppled backwards from the roof of the second story.

The red ball flew from her fingers as she fell, soft blue eyes locked on the matching color of the sky as she lost control over her body for the first time in all her memory. She hardly felt the impact of the rock against her skull as her world went black.

To Denali the whole thing had been a nightmare, well the fall itself was the nightmare, he was having so much fun up until that point, but as he saw her grabbing at the air, looking for some kind of support, he knew… he knew something was terribly wrong. Even the drug in his system did not impair that. His heart seemed to stop and go at the same time, it hurt, but he rushed over, not wasting time.

MOMMY MOMMY!

Denali cried in desperation. He hurried to the door, not bothering to look at the unmoving form of Artemis, scared she was dead. He opened the door, and screamed again, hoping someone would hear, he was in a panic, and knew everything was wrong, how could he let something like this happen? He was frantic as he called again and again, hoping someone was home.

Something about today had seemed off from the start. The Consul couldn't place it, but there seemed to be a dark cloud hanging over her thoughts ever since she woke up. This would have been enough to put her on edge, but what was worse was that she had no idea what could be causing her to feel this way. No matter what she did to try and distract herself though, she simply could not shake the uneasy feeling that had now settled into her gut. Something wasn't right, or very soon something was going to happen. Savina chewed nervously at her bottom lip as she tried to start reading a new book, and then the yelling reached her ears.

The book was dropped from her hands and she was moving before it even hit the floor. Emerald eyes had grown wide and wild as she walked out towards the entrance and saw Denali still yelling for help. "Denali!? What happened? What's wrong?" The words her son spoke to her made her heart stop and her blood run ice cold. No. Savina ran outside and when she saw her daughter unconscious on the ground a horrible sound pierced the calm Dreaming air, half scream and half wail. She ran to her daughter and picked her up in her arms, rushing back to the manor. Her voice began to call for Amata and Cambria desperately and tears were already forming twin rivers down her cheeks. Her daughter had fallen, and she was more scared than she had ever been in her life.
