I slit the throat of your confidence

This is set for the late afternoon of February 5th, before the snowstorm is apparent.
[html]

Outside it was snowing again; the soft curtain of white falling peacefully to join the blanket that already coated the ground below. Silas peered out the unbroken glad of the dirty window pane in his room. The places where the grass was no longer intact had been stuffed with scraps of thick material to prevent the cold air from finding its way inside easily. The snow had been falling for over a month now, off and on whenever it so chose. Looking outside, with the sun hidden behind the mess of grey and white, there was no way of knowing what was in store for Nova Scotia. There was no way of knowing that this snow would not stop or that the wind would pick up. In fact, for now it looked rather peaceful outside. If not for the cold, Silas would have probably ventured out just to merely be in the wintery wonderland.

As it was, he would spend the rest of the evening in the comfort of his room in the mansion. The young Vigilies had gone scavenging and rounded up a few armfuls of blankets to add to his room. The building had grown cold at night, especially on the second floor. Even with warm fires burning in the fireplace of the main rooms below, Silas would find his frame shivering late in the night when the temperature dipped below freezing.

Moving away from the window, Silas skirted by the four-poster bed and made his way to the chest tucked in one corner of the room. It was here where he had tossed the blankets after collecting them, and now he pulled them free and tossed them at his empty bed, the Russian flag hung on the wall flapping gently as the rush of air drifted by. He rose to straighten the nest of blankets on the bed so that they were flat and covered the mattress. At night they would surely become tangled as Silas tossed in his sleep, but at least for now if gave his room the appearance of being tidy. When he was done with this chore, he grabbed one of the remaining blankets and made his way into the hallway.

Things had been… well, strange lately. However, his feelings had not changed. Any hesitation that had died away during that night a few months ago had easily risen back up. There was no doubt in his heart what he felt for the cream colored girl, but the young Vigilies did not want to ruin things. It was obvious he had been hasty and acted on impulse. The Russian needed to think his actions out more clearly. He found himself hesitating for only a second as Silas raised a fist to knock on the Inferni princess’ door. He had no idea if she was around, but he figured he’d offered the blanket in his arms to her so that she would not freeze at night. Silas could not possibly of known what was in store for them in the coming hours of the storm.

She hadn't really left her cave since her move earlier in the week, but it was time to spread her wings once more. Andrezej was silenced in the background once again, his voice pushed into the banks of her memories where it couldn't hurt her. As she passed the trees in the forest, making her way through the snow to the manor, she let out a sigh. It was clear that the haunting remembrance of her uncle would never actually go away any more than she would suddenly be free of her wolf blood.

The manor itself was quiet, a good place to rest. She hadn't really justified her visit with anything, but she knew Cotl was there and it was a good chance to see her friend. The ginger German managed to lift her spirits in their last encounter, even if they had argued about Izaak. It was something to do as the snow fell.

But as she ascended the eastern stairs, her ears caught the sound of a gentle knocking on a door; someone was in the hall. The scent itself was familiar, but she knew it belonged to no one that she had actually met. Curiosity prevailed over her desire to see the Imaginifer she deemed a friend, and her destination changed from the western hall to the eastern hall.

Her crimson eyes, gained from her mother, glanced down the hallway as she remained silent. She avoided the eastern side of the manor; it was where Halo Lykoi slept, and her last meeting with her proud Lykoi cousin had not been a pleasant one. Still, someone was there, and it wasn't the female. The stranger was much too large, and much too male, to be Halo (though Talitha was unsure if the latter was really true). He stood before the far door with a blanket in his arms.

As she approached, her steps were soft, eyes remaining focused on the man over other features of the manor; she did turn them away briefly to look at the doors, but they always returned to the Inferni coywolf. She stopped several feet from him, crossing her arms just under her ribs. "I'm not sure she's there," she murmured, her voice soft. It couldn't be considered a whisper, but it was clearly too quiet to be normal speech, a habit acquired in her months with Myron in Drifter's Bay.

It seemed as if the knock reverberated in his head long after it had really ceased, and the mansion was full of nothing but silence. Really, there were plenty of things to be heard if one were to listen – the groaning of the wood as the wind began to pick up outside, the soft patter of footsteps – but it seemed as if the Russian could only focus on the sound of his own beating heart and the ghostly echo of the hollow knock on Halo’s door. He titled his head downward, the crown of black falling to obscure the pale blue of his eyes. Even before the soft voice of Gabriel’s daughter came to reaffirm the truth, Silas was convinced Halo was absent.

Lifting his head, the black shuffling over the familiar blue of the bandana tied there, icy blue came in contact with fiery crimson. Silas had come to find comfort in the color after long months of living alongside the girl he had known to be the princess of Inferni. And now he was confronted by it again, and yet it was not the same crimson his heart yearned for. He knew who the girl was, for she had come and gone from the clan several times during Silas’ stay within the borders. However, he had never actually had a true conversation with the girl, so this was unusual for him.

"No, I guess not," he replied, his voice somewhat thick with his Russian accent from not having spoken in awhile. He looked back to the door again, a searching look in his eyes, before he turned back to the Tirones. "Your name ees Taleetha, ya?" The boy bent to set the blanket on the floor in front of the door, before he rose to his full height again. At least Halo would get the blanket one way or another, even if the Russian wasn’t lucky enough to see her in the process. "I don’t zhink we ‘ave spoken before."

Her ears twitched at the sound of the wind outside of the manor, concerned to the worn wood and the people who lived inside for only a brief moment. As the stranger turned his head, her mind went quite blank, faced with a handsome Luperci instead of what she had expected to be something more unpleasant. His hair fell over a blue bandanna, ice eyes catching her ruby red ones. She turned her own away, out of unease rather than respect. She wasn't one to match gaze, knowing her eyes leaked emotion like rusted pipes leaked water.

Blackened claws tapped against the russet fur of her forearm, searching the floor in silence as while her ears remained alert to sounds that might indicate Halo was nearby. She was repulsed by the possibility of another unpleasant meeting with the Lykoi woman. She wasn't in the right sorts for one anyways. But it was just this man with the ice blue eyes and handsome features. It seemed she had been right; Halo wasn't there.

He agreed, voice heavy with an accent that she couldn't place. As he said her name, stretching the 'i', she looked up in surprise. Perhaps he was better known that she expected, or perhaps Halo had simply sung of her disappointment in her older cousin. The de le Poer princess faltered in response, only able to confirm by giving a brief nod of her head. Yes, her name was Talitha. He set the blanket on the floor before returning to his full height, her eyes following each movement.

He was definitely more wolf than she was, much like Gabriel, and reached a taller height than she herself did. Unlike with Gabriel, she found herself simply more intrigued by the hybrid. Her father was a figure of both adoration and shame, but this male was out of her reach of familiarity. She gazed at him with open eyes, pushing back prejudice that had been harbored for years. Like her father, he had proved himself to live within the skull-lined borders of her kingdom. Unlike her father, she wasn't obligated to accept him. A situation she hadn't been faced with before.

Her words finally returned and she cleared her throat to respond to him, after her long silence. "Yes, that's right. Talitha Lykoi." Her voice dropped to a whisper, glancing to the door that was before him, then to the blanket. "You're friends with my cousin?" she asked, voice lacing with subtle curiosity. Though she had nothing good to say personally on the subject of the younger woman, she knew Halo was strong and loyal, which boosted her in the crimson Massacre eyes of the Tirones.
