Those to Come

All welcome. 527

Nayru emerged from her green house for this first time in weeks, the day Conor had come to see her, knowing full well that she couldn't exist as a ghost any longer. That he had placed faith in her above any of the others, and the revelation he had provided her, confirmed that she had to re-enter her previous life, soon and with more enthusiasm than before. Yet that first day she could only sit in the sun, overwhelmed by the white of the world outside and the fresh air. So it was days even later than that when she finally emerged from the tall stone walls that enclosed her greenhouse home and very slowly she begun to tedious task of making rounds of the borders. The evidence of the snow storm had still not completely melted, but on some days the sun shone harder than others and slowly spring was trying to get a foot in the door. The snow, melting and refreezing, transformed the landscape into a sometimes wet, sometimes icy, winter swap. Nayru's foot falls were carefully chosen as she made her way from the very northern-eastern tip of the pack lands and slowly, very slowly and on four legs she moved westward, following the carefully marked borders.

Her head was still wrapped in a gauze, covering the patch of skin that had crudely been stitched and slowly was healing. Although the wound no longer bled and the cotton cloth provided no protection the girl did not remove it, not wishing to expose the ugly scar just yet. Perhaps in time her thick fur would cover the small line of skin that fur probably wouldn't grow back on. Some day it would be as if it had never happened, but for now Nayru wore the head bandage. And she moved as a lupus would. Although she had gotten in the habit of traveling and operating in her optime form, much preferring the use of hands to the increased speed of four legs, sometime told her to revert to her more primal and youthful form. With four legs she made better time than she would on two, and still the day was half over by the time she reached Berwick.

Instead of following along the borders then she turned north, passing into the tiny ghost town. Even now Wolfville was more of city than Berwick, and Nayru knew that if she were to continue north she would cross paths with someone. If she were to go into the center of town they would be coming and going from their own homes and it would not be long before Nayru was with company. Yet in Berwick in might be hours before anyone emerged from one of the falling down houses, or it might be never, and Nayru was prepared to wait. The time that elapsed would give her time to rest, which she realized she needed as her head began to pound and her legs were too tired to continue. In the sunniest patch of exposed grass she lowered herself, curling up to soak in the sun and wait for life to spring upon her again.

WC:322 OOC:I hope you don’t mind me jumping in! ^^

She’d been exploring quite a bit of the pack lands as of late. There wasn’t much to do, she was so bored and no friends. Well her daddy was her best friend but he went on his hunt today without her. She was really disappointed but what could she do? She wasn’t about to ruin her daddy’s hunt so she was out exploring … when she found the most funnest thing in the world… it was a sheet of ice covering part of a town. She didn’t care much for the place though she noted where everything was… vaguely but once she started slipping and sliding she had gotten scared, then It was getting fun and soon, though she fell quite a bit, she was sliding across the ice with gusto. This was soooo much fun! She didn’t know how long she was at it… nor that she’d gone quite a distance from where she first started, but soon she found herself colliding with a large furry thing. Jumping back she slid even more lost her balance and was soon sprawled along the ice.

Who’re you!

She asked, in her undignified tone as she scrambled to get up. This was slightly harder when she had someone there. The wolf before her was curious looking. She was black and white, and she had … cloth around her head. This made the puppy curious, but she would get a name before bombarding the woman with questions. Her tail now started to wag. A new friend perhaps? She wasn’t sure the woman looked really sad. Maybe Eclipse could do something about that. She didn’t like seeing anyone sad. Maybe she could make her laugh! But she didn’t make a move quite yet. She still didn’t know her name and without it she would not do too much more… and if she didn’t give her name out Eclipse would try to bug it out of her.

Of course! We had talked about having a Nay Eclipse thread! 354

Life found Nayru in one of its most energetic and purest forms. Ruby eyes had seen the approach of the slipping and sliding creature and had merely observed with a detached form of interest until the creature had come much closer. As the child came nearer Nayru could see the details of the girl better, the cinnamon fur and bright eyes. The warm coat of the child invoked some memory for Nayru, but so long she had been isolated that this child could be anyone. Nayru did not know what orphans had come and gone during the days she had spent sleeping and healing. Yet she was the right age and the scent that wafted up to Nayru's nostrils when the child slid her way over to the woman confirmed any suspicions that had been slowly growing. The individual smells of Conor and Bris clung to the girl, and Nayru let a half smile grow on her lips as she braced herself for the impact of the small body coming at her.

As the child righted itself a brief but vivid memory flashed before her. It was Conor and Saluce looking down on her and Gideon, who had come tumbling out of the brush, ambushing the alpha and warrior. Yet the image lasted but a second before it was Nayru looking down at the Dahlian child once more. "I am Nayru," she almost smiled again, "and you are little Eclipse." This could be no one but the puppy that Nayru had watched be born from the two wolves whom had taken her in. Nayru had spent time away from the Victorian home after the birthing, it was too crowded and the constant buzz of energy was too much for the quiet girl. Yet a small sadness knotted in her stomach when she thought of how much she missed at the home while she was away. The slow passing of time that eventually added up to those she loved aging, changing and growing without her realizing it. Yes, this was Eclipse, surely, but she was not the same squirming creature Nayru knew her to be.

WC: 219 OOC: Bleh sorry for the rotten post ; ;

It took a second for the cinnamon girl to right herself. The wolf that Eclipse looked up at was smiling at her. She gave her name and then spoke again, making Eclipse look at the woman in wonderment. How could she know who she was? Was she reading Eclipses’ mind or something. It was a thing she thought only monsters would know about, but Eclipse didn’t think the black and white wolf. She looked at Naryu with suspicion for a little while before asking her.

“Can you teach me to read minds too?”

She asked finally, her eyes filled with awe. This was the only explaination. She had not seen the woman, at least not in her living memory, so how could the woman know if she couldn’t read minds? There was no explanation for this. Eclipse had little knowledge over what happened before her own memories, or that there was anything that happened before then. She just knew everything around her was in her own existence and it helped her figure things out. Now she might learn how to read minds too! Eclipse’s tail was still wagging as she waited for the woman’s answer. She made sure to give the woman her best puppy face ever to make sure she couldn’t resist the puppies request.

Nayru did not laugh but merely smiled at the girl's innocent question. Although Eclipse was mistaken she was not the first to be suspicious of Nayru's knowledge. The woman knew names and faces before others did, she kept tabs on who came and went through Dahlia de Mai, what they did, where they went. She stored it all and could recall it at will. The black and white woman was apt at reading expressions, voices, and even when others tried to hide their motives, Nayru could usually read through them. It was not mind reading but it was as close as one could get. And her nature, so silent and stoic, lent to the illusion that Nayru was on another plane. Yet she was so very grounded on this earth. It was all a matter of getting in tune with the earth's energy, and the energy of those who inhabited it.

"Now why would you want to read anyone's mind?" She tilted her head slightly, crimson eyes questioning the little girl. What if one really could read minds, know the truth as people never told it? What good would that do the one who could read others? They would be burdened with the secrets and troubles that others carried about with them, unless they did not care. If they did not care such a power would be a curse, for the others who was subjected to being looked into without their consent. Nayru was glad that she couldn't really look into the minds of any others, though how she could convey such an idea to such a young child she wasn't sure, but surely they would arrive at that point.

WC: 187 OOC: sorry it is WAY TOO LATE FRO MY TASTE.... and it's so short ; ; i got blocked for some reason ; ;

She didn’t really expect the bi colored woman to laugh so it was no disappointment to Eclipse, though she did see the amused smile, and this made her beam with happiness. She shrugged at Naryu’s question. She just wanted to she knew that.

“cause it is a lot of work to find out what they is thinkin.”

She said matter of factly. Yes it was way too much trouble trying to find out if someone liked her or not, or what was on their mind. She was always wondering what her daddy was thinking. and her mommy... it was so hard to tell, she couldn’t read anyone very well, not like her daddy knew her so well.

Where do you live huh? You live in one of these houses?

She asked. See she wouldn’t have to ask these questions she would know already. Or she could ask them and get them anyway without her saying a word from her mouth. Too bad. It seemed Naryu wasn’t about to give up her secrets to the pup... not yet anyway.

Nayru could see that logic. It could be hard to figure out what one was thinking, this was true. Yet with patience and practice it would come easier to the girl, if she truly wished to be so cunning and clever. Still Nayru knew others were entitled to their private thoughts and perhaps one day little Eclipse would learn this too. Even if Nayru did stumble upon knowledge that did not belong to her, she never divulged it and mostly kept it to herself, stored up for later reference even if nothing ever came of it. Not all secrets had to be shared, and until Eclipse learned that Nayru hope the girl didn’t learn the ins and outs of “mind reading”. Yet as puppies often did, Eclipse lost interest in the conversation and quickly changed the course of it, which Nayru simply went with.

“No, I don’t live in one of these houses.” Nayru smiled, locking eyes with the tiny creature, as if to see if the girl could discern where she came from within the limits of Dahlia de Mai’s territory. Nayru rarely had to ask where the others lived, she already knew. Their scents, concentrated in the places they slept, gave away those mysteries. Nayru often combed the lands, following the other’s trails, and knew where they had been, where they were going, and where they laid their heads at night. In time Eclipse would learn to do this too, although asking was just as an effective means of finding out, if the other told. “I live much further east. In a house made out of glass.” She paused, and then “Have you explored much of Dahlia on your own yet?”

WC: 304 OOC: :3 oh joys of curiousity.

Eclipse could see why Naryu didn’t live in one of these houses. they were too old and worn down. She was surprised, however, when Naryu mentioned a glass house. Eclipse knew a bit about glass and knew she was suppose to stay away from it, her mommy had told her it would hurt her if she played around with it. She wondered what Naryu did to have a glass house, she must have to be very careful when she went in. She was standing open mouthed for a little bit before a grin creased her face.

Oh You are lucky, but i’m not allowed to touch glass.

At Naryu’s question, Eclipse smiled, yes definitely explored quite a bit, though... not everything. She nodded though. She’d seen much of the area, but not everywhere, though she was beginning to look forward to the day she would get to see every place.

I been most pwaces. Do you know any wreally cool ones?

Eclipse asked, her tail wagging. She wouldn’t have to search for anything cool if she could be shown. Eclipse was a lazy pup in this way, though she had a boisterous attitude, she hated searching, and she was always full of questions that might get her knowledge beyond what she was suppose to get. She loved knowing things, and learning things. She wanted to be the best hunter, just like her daddy though, she knew that much, but there was so much that she liked it was hard for her to think of what she really, really wanted to do. She had plenty of time to think on that though, she was a puppy and puppies were meant to play, though with no other pups around, she was hard pressed to find any playmates.

Nayru’s knowing eyes did not leave the girl, nor did she interrupt. Simply she listened and nodded as Eclipse explained she wasn’t allowed to touch glass. Who had imposed such a law upon the child? Conor or Bris? No one had told her not to touch glass. Had they, perhaps she would have seen the flawed logic in living in a house of glass. And yet, despite the injury that had occurred she did not wish her home to be anywhere else. There were some repairs to be made and problems to be addressed, sure, but her home was her home and she had no intention of leaving it. Nor did she tell Eclispe that the bandaged wrapped about her head had come from the very glass she lived in, for it would only frighten the girl and reaffirm that glass was not to be touched. But why not? Sure it could cut, but if handled with care the fragile material was quite useful. Quite beautiful even.

“Well if you’ve been most places than I’m not sure I could tell you of any place new.” Nayru smiled softly at the idea. As a child she truly had been most places, even places the adults never ventured. And like Eclipse she was constantly full of questions. Always thirst for new information, new adventures. Still she felt that thirst but she filled it without asking anyone these days. “Have you been to the harbor? The garbage dump? The butterfly field?” There were other places surely, but these three were perhaps the most fun to a child, or at least, Nayru remember them being the most fun when she had been a child.

WC: 331 OOC: Soooo sorry for the horrible wait ; ;

In Character

Eclipse was probably not the most careful wolf in the world, due to her extreme curiousity and knack for getting caught up in things she shouldn’t so it wasn’t a wonder to her why things that were marked dangerous were to be left alone, but Naryu wouldn’t know this and Eclipse probably wouldn’t tell her why either. She just knew she shouldn’t touch some things, because her mommy or daddy told her not to, of course that didn’t always stop her. Listening to the woman she smiled wagging her tail.

"Is the harber that thing that has the butts? The floating things? I have been there, and the garbage place, its’ stinky. What is butterfly field?"

She asked, it was possible she’d been there, she had found herself in many different fields as of late but she didn’t know that they were named nor what they were named but even if she did visit there already, she was sure it was ok to go again. She liked moving around and liked new friends, and as she had few her age she knew about, she needed to make whatever friends she could.

"Maybe you can show me!"

She liked Naryu, she was always full of answers to Eclipse’s abundant questions, and was calm, she even seemed a bit more patient than some, though quiet and maybe too calm, Eclipse might have to figure out her angle later when she felt a little more comfortable around the woman and see what she could get away with. The pup thought smiling and wagging her tail at Naryu, her big blue/purple eyes staring at her expectantly. She was sure if Naryu couldn’t show her she’d do her best to figure out which field was which from that day forward. When she wanted to know something she would try her best to get that knowledge, because she felt that without it, she was a sitting duck.

Short short, poop. I need to start wrapping up my older threads >.< eep.

The young girl had been to both the garbage dump and the harbor, which was not surprising. The youth was teeming with energy, so much so that it was radiating off her in waves. Such energy presented its self with the limitless questions and the excitable motions the girl made, happy and so eager to learn and move and simply be alive. She was the opposite ofNayru, who stood still, her words careful and calm and easy. She only spoke in reply to Eclipse, who kept them both talking at a steady pace, and Nayru was more than pleased to be engaged in such a conversation. Too long she often went without soaking in such young, honest energy.

"It is a field where the butterflies like to live. It might be too early to find any, but we can check." Nayru remembered the delicate fairy insects that floated above the tall grasses all summer. She was a child herself the last time she really took time to visit the field, laying in wait for the colorful bugs to land upon her. "It is a bit of a walk, but if you'd like, I will show you." Nayru turned her head in the direction the field laid, cocking it as if to ask "ready to go?".

OOC: Sorry for the short crappy post PP permitted to get them there or close :3

Eclipse was full of questions and sometimes it made off hand comments about her being made of nothing but questions, but the girl shrugged it off, she was happy with what she spoke and how she gained her knowledge. She loved her questions, and most of the answers that came from them. Just like this one. Now she didn’t know what a butterfly was exactly, but she would find out, wouldn’t she? She grinned as Naryu offered to show her and moved her head a little, an indication of, lets get going to Eclipse, and the pup wasted no time at all. She was off like a shot but only for a few yards before she turned back, to move along with Naryu. She was excited but she knew enough to save what energy she had. She wanted to get there though, and Naryu did say it was a good long walk, but Eclipse was ready. She liked Naryu for all she was so quiet. Tail wagging she decided it was best to be quiet now too. She had many questions flying in her head, but she wanted no distractions.

Short short.

They moved at a steady pace, Eclipse at times bursting ahead but never falling a step behind. Nayru admired the girl’s energy, and wondered if she would keep it into her adulthood. Nayru had never been bursting with energy, she had always reserved it, never wishing to be caught in a situation out of breath. And she never was. So it was with long easy strides Nayru led the way, allowing for them to pause and marvel at any sight that might catch the younger girl’s eyes, but continuing with the goal always in mind.

When they had passed the forest and the spring and arrived at the field Nayru turned to the girl, wondering if any of her seemingly boundless energy had been exhausted. The grasses weren’t as high as they would become mid-summer, but it was clear that they were reviving from the long winter that had just swept through the lands. Lush green filled the empty space and tiny buds, soon to be colorful flowers, were sprinkled in the mix. Realizing that the spring flowers weren’t quite in bloom, Nayru suddenly wondered if they would find any of the fairy insects, but a small flutter in the corner of her eyes quelled that fear. Turning to the young girl she smiled, "Well, this is it. A little early in the season. We’ll come back when summer is in full swing, and then you’ll really see some butterflies." and she would, although the sighting of the small creatures was not impossible now.
