It wasn’t entirely picturesque, but it reminded the Russian of home. As a child, Silas had been taught many things in the ways of the Russos. The large complex life was centered around fishing, and life on the seas easily became just as natural as life on the shore. All of the Russo boys had large builds, despite their mottled blood. Their work on their families’ ships and fishing yielded sturdy frames, and Silas had not been spared this. He had grown into his frame now, no longer awkwardly lengthy. Though he did not spend much time on the water as he had when he was younger, the same pirate build of his father was still apparent in him – the smooth curve of muscle clearly visible amongst the lithe frame. A tan hand reached for his neckline, clutching the golden anchor that constantly hung from the golden chain. So even though the sand was grainy and littered with many larger-sized pebbles, Silas was able to close both pale icy eyes and imagine the complex of Sobirat'sya.

He wondered how Rurik and Liliya were doing back home in Russia, and whether or not they had successfully reunited with Verusha. Silas had always felt guilty for leaving his mother alone in Russia, and that guilt only intensified when it was revealed that Anatoliy had left her too and wound up in Nova Scotia. He wondered what his life would be like now if he had gone back with them. He longed for his roots – to be surrounded by those who shared the thick accent he did, to speak in his native tongue, to return to the water and continue learning the crafts of his family. He was a pirate’s son, and yet the only thing Silas really had to show for it lately was his drinking habits.

There was not much Russian vodka left, but Silas had managed to forget about one when he had decided to keep it stored under his bed for quite some time. Now he carried it with him, lifting the bottle to his muzzle every so often so that his buzz would not vanish completely. His thoughts lately had been focused completely around Halo, and what he could do to become a better man for her. Silas should have been content with himself, for she showed interest, but their awkward encounter in the mansion had told him otherwise. If Silas was really everything that Halo wanted, that situation would have ended differently. But as it was, it seemed as if Halo just didn’t really want Silas. At least, not entirely. Not in the way he wanted her. But maybe, just maybe, if he could be the man she wanted, then she would return his affections. He knew his thinking was off, but he couldn’t help it. He had decided to stay back in Nova Scotia for her, and now he wanted to make sure his decision counted for something.

The sun would be setting in a few hours, but for once Silas did not want to return to the mansion. He couldn’t face her. Not now. Not yet, at least.

This is kinda weird, and not well written. Sorry! And the date is fine! <3 Talitha probably has paint all over her hands, and red ink in her fur.

Spring had started with magnificent promise for the newly promoted daughter of the Aquila. Gabriel's decision to place his daughter above many others found inside of the clan was shocking to the dark Lykoi; now, she held a place of importance, like her outside-born cousin. Oh, how wonderful that felt. She was just like Halo. She was worth Inferni's notice. She had proven herself in Gabriel's eyes. And yet, as that day had started and progressed, her mood sloped southward significantly. Was she worth the position? Or was this nepotism brought about by her father's guilt? She couldn't shake the feeling of self-loathing that settled upon her shoulders. What if it was merely a present for hurting her as he had?

That was what brought her to Hades' Beach. Weeks had passed since speaking with Niro about her death in the sea off the Shattered Coast without her mind returning to the possibility, but it had returned then. Crimson eyes watched ever so carefully as the water washed over the shore. It couldn't be hard, could it? Her legs carried her into the cold water swiftly, slender body disappearing beneath the surface as if it were a natural atmosphere to the Lykoi woman. As her arms created a current that pushed her forward, her lungs held on to warm breath. They burned, her head spun, and she returned to the surface to gasp for breath. She couldn't do it. She couldn't stay submerged long enough to end it.

Maybe God didn't want her to go just yet. Perhaps she was the one who was wrong. Gabriel and Ezekiel had both said similar things in beliefs of the future — God had a purpose for her, even if it meant she suffered. In truth, she hadn't truly suffered since the birth of her dead children. Learning of her father's illegitimate progeny was simply a devastating turn of events. And since? Nothing. Since going to visit the golden Collie whore — oh that was what she was — Talitha had felt no true suffering.

The water chilled her bones as she floated, auburn hair spreading out over the surface of the Saltbrooke and crimson eyes watching as the sky took the color of gold onto itself. The sun would set soon enough, and the world would be left in darkness again. She liked the night.

Slowly, she pulled herself from the water, fur dripping onto the shore as she squeezed excess liquid from her curls. It wasn't until she shook her head that she noticed the large figure as it stood upon the beach. The body wasn't unfamiliar, but she couldn't claim a friendship with the handsome immigrant she knew to be close to Halo. What he was doing so far from the mansion was truly curious to her; she rarely saw him on the lands. Perhaps he was waiting for the young Centurion. Well, now he had other company. Talitha followed her feet as she approached the Russian, exhaling warm air on the cooler afternoon breeze. "Here to swim, handsome warrior?" Each word was left ringing around amongst subtle flirtation and soft feminine tones, common on the voice of the Optio.

The frosted glass bottle tilted, the clear fluid inside sloshing up the sides. The label was one that was all too familiar to the Russian (for it was his favorite liquor) and features softened in appreciation as icy blue trailed the gold and white lettering that proudly proclaimed Русский Стандарт. He supposed its consumption was bittersweet, for when the vodka was completely gone Silas would lose one of his last ties with his former life in Russia. Halifax had been scavenged several times, but the young Hastati had exhausted its remaining supply of his favored vodka. The bottle in his hand was all that was left. Raising the bottle to his muzzle, Silas took another deep swig, causing features to contort in distaste as his eyes fluttered closed. It was not particularly enjoyable this way, but it would matter less the more Silas took in.

Her voice found him just as Silas was opening his eyes, and the young Russian almost instantly found the silhouette of the clan’s newly appointed Optio. Familiar crooked smile appeared at her dialogue, while the boy let his gaze wander to the water at their side. After a moment’s consideration, he shook his head. "Not today." His thoughts dwelled for a moment on her words, specifically the last two. Most likely they were just empty words, but they nonetheless sparked appreciation for the woman. Silas was by no means a warrior, but he had been trying his best lately to emulate one. Already the girl had won some points in the Russian's book.

It was obvious that Talitha had just emerged herself, for her coat was still rather sopping. All Silas could think was that she must have been cold. "How vas zhe vater?" While one hand still held the bottle rather securely at his side, Silas’ free hand snaked its way into the pocket of his torn denim jeans.

Sorry for the crap and the wait and the UGH. Kiki fails.

Her eyes watched the bottle rather than the man as the chill sank into her fur. She knew what it was, even if she couldn't read the label, and a surge of faint excitement crossed into her mind. Her own stock of 'liquid emotion remover' had started to run low. What a shame for her, as she knew she would never again make a trip into the borders of Halifax to find what she so desperately relied upon. But this man had what she wanted, and a sudden chance to form a link to the outside created itself in her head, even as he spoke.

It wasn't until he asked about the water that she returned her gaze to his handsome hybrid features. His accent caused her ears to twist forward curiously. She knew others who spoke strangely, such as Cotl with his German addition to sentences, but this was entirely different. For a moment, she tried to decipher the phrase. "It was cold. Spring hasn't warmed it yet." Her features twisted to gentle amiability in the shape of a smile upon her cream jaws. "Are you sure you wouldn't like to go in? I can hold your vodka while you try it for yourself." One dark eye closed in a playful wink as her curled locks were tossed back into place.

The words were exactly what he had expected to hear. Though it was now April, winter had seemed to cling on a little longer than normal this year and that meant that the water didn’t have as much time to warm up in the spring sun’s rays. Of course Silas had been in cold water plenty of times in his young life, but he did not look forward to rushing into it now. In fact, he thought Talitha quite brave (or crazy) for having gone for a full fledged dip into the bay. "Ay, I am very sure, meess," he responded, a smirk mirroring the playful wink she had offered him. "Eet ees far too cold for me right now. Maybe vhen zhe vater gets varmer I vill go for a svim vith you, ya?"

It took him a moment, but then Silas got to wondering about that wink and her words. After a few seconds, the smirk amongst his features broadened and Silas extended the hand that had not found refuge in the denim. "Vould you like some?" His fist tottered back and forth, swinging the bottle gently from side to side so that the liquid inside stirred. The Russian now realized that her words had most likely been a playful attempt for her to get her hands on the liquor; and although Silas would not be going in the water today, he would definitely oblige by sharing his favored vodka.

Haha. Flirting. I lol.

Winter had continued through the world of Inferni, though she was unsure if it continued outside, and the water was clear proof of the cold temperature. Already, as it dripped from her dark fur, it started to form wet icicles. Yet as she stood, she wasn't cold. Perhaps she was merely frostbitten. The large male before her seemed to have much more sense, as he was very sure that he did not want to try for himself. His face colored with a smirk that caused her own smile to brighten further. Something in his voice, perhaps the way he replaced his starting 't's and 'v's, was utterly charming. "Yes, maybe 'vhen zhe vater gets varmer'." Though her voice mocked his accent, the tone was anything but insulting.

Red eyes widened a smidgen as his arm, fingers wrapped around the neck of the pretty bottle she had lusted after in the moments before, rose in offering. Quickly, she reached for the swinging bottle; as it returned in her hand, the glass lip found her mouth and she took a moment to enjoy the faintly burning sensation as it passed through her jaw and throat. Her features became a satisfied expression of peace. "Thanks. I seem to have run out of my own." Her head lolled to the side, auburn curls spilling over her shoulder lackadaisically. With a sigh, she allowed her eyes to focus entirely upon the foreign man. "I like your voice, handsome. Where are you from?" More innocent flirtation, fueled evermore by the alcohol he shared.

Her body twisted and sat upon the cool ground of the beach, hand allowing the bottle to sit beside her. With one elegant movement, she patted the ground beside her, offering a seat to her company. "Sit. Talk to me. I don't often find someone interesting to speak to in this day and age." And he was far better than the option of Halo.
