OoC- Well, here goes nothing ^^ Words-1000+

Life often seemed delicate. In reality it always is. One decision could change the course of a conversation or the course of an entire life. Bad decisions can end lifes while other wrong decisions can start life anew. It seemed so fragile. So destructible. So Delicate.

Beneath the trees of Ethereal Eclipse, a brute calmly stalked from shadow to shadow, barely noticeable and completely silent. Only a break in the trees and the resulting stream of warm morning sunlight would betray any irregularity in the shadows when it shown on the deep red dye that held in sections of the male’s otherwise black lupine body. He was in no hurry. As Jaden trotted along with the trained silence he nearly always carried in step, he was wondering about this choice and imagining what an acceptance into his desired pack would mean. This would definitely be a life changing day.

Jaden was only almost four years old now which usually meant he was just becoming a fully developed adult with a solid personality and ideals. This was untrue in his case. By the age of two he had taken the lives of six luperci and non-luperci canines. After that, the killing quickened. Taking life so early among other brutal practices forced his soul into a quick maturity. Jaden was truly an adult and carried himself as one. A life of training to kill had shaped his body into that of a muscular youth. Before leaving his old pack, the wolf could have easily pulled off being an adult. Despite about six months of having no training schedule and the last month of not eating as well as would have liked to because of a healed sprained ankle, Jaden was still doing well enough. His figure wasn’t the bulkiest, but he was still fast. That speed and the various weapons he held in his leather satchel could easily handle almost any physical challenge that came his way today.

The only problem the former assassin faced now was that today he did not expect to be attacked by a physical threat. In the last six months a lot had happened. Dahlia de Mai was where all the trails ended for him now. In his eyes, they were the ideal pack of honorable wolves. There former leader had saved his life and one of their members had witnessed an accident involving the Alaskan taking a nasty fall out of a tree. She helped him selflessly just as Conor had. Jaden felt that he owed this pack his life now even after his savior went MIA. There was nothing to live for and that realization led to the conclusion that he truly had nothing at all. The young wolf wouldn’t admit it through his façade of a nice guy but secretly trained killer, but the dormant protective and innocent side of the man so deeply desired companionship. He needed a pack. He needed people he could protect and serve to fill the void left by the destruction of all he ever loved. Thoughts of eternal solitude were so disconcerting that he hadn’t even touched them with the fringes of his mind. If Dahlia turned down his offer, his desire to have a pack, life would fall off the edge of the world and into a black abyss of pointless loneliness. They had to accept him.

Jaden didn’t admit any of this to himself though. He even went as far as to be skeptical about their letting him join the pack. Where he came from, wolves didn’t just join packs. The pack would chose someone to join them or they would bread their own young to be strong blooded pack members. Never would a loner simply approach the boarders and ask for admittance. Such a wolf would likely be killed.

Not only was that part of his skepticism but Jaden also wasn’t exactly the most liked brute around. He knowingly had numerous enemies from various local packs, including the Alpha of Cercatori d’Arte who he had attempted to assassinate. Vigilante only bested him because of a moral-caused hesitation during Jaden’s chance at the kill shot. Because the assassin had information to offer about the wolf whom “contracted” Vigilante’s assassination, the Alpha spared his life.

Killing was a part of Jaden’s dark past he tried every day to escape. He had planned Vigilante to be his last. Fortunately and unfortunately, Jaden had failed to kill him; fortunate for the ex-assassin who felt he retained a bit of his soul, but unfortunately because now the knowledge of a dark red and black stranger attempting to kill the alpha had the opportunity to destroy any chance there was of him joining a local pack.

Whatever today’s outcome, Jaden tried to relax. It felt odd being so stressed about something that didn’t involve the possibility of death. He told himself it wasn’t worth it and put on his game-face but the courage said game-face brought was short lived. The unnerving scent of a pack boarder practically jumped out of the forests underlying foliage. He crept forward and sat, breathing it in for a second when he found the exact origin of the smell. The fatal decision was quickly approaching. What was so unnerving was that all Jaden could do was hope. A sudden burst of courage allowed him to tilt back his maw and let go a clear and definite greeting howl. It rang loud and clear for a moderate amount of time announcing that he wanted someone’s attention but Jaden did his very best to sound polite and not demanding or overly urgent. The dark wolf’s fur was freshly washed (in a horrifyingly wet and shallow stream) and he sat at attention after tossing his satchel full of personal items and whatnot into the dew covered grass at his flank. First impressions were important and he was hoping his would be fair. Completely unarmed and ready to lower his head to find a dismissive posture, Jaden calmly scanned the forest for pack wolves while his heart beat so quickly it nearly tore up his insides. Destiny could be around the corner or ready to jump out from behind a tree. He was as ready as he ever could be for it now.

Jaden does. "Jaden speaks." Jaden thinks.

Saluce had returned sometime that night, the encounter the previous day had left him a bit exhausted but the deed was still left unfinished for the proud warrior. His armor had gained some of its first battle scars the day before from the curved blade used against him. All in all his prey had been inexperienced and he could have easily finished him off if it wasn’t for that interloper that came to end their battle. The mountain was for all purposes an impregnable fortress and he knew it. For now though he had resumed his normal day to day duties, and hoped to avoid questions as to his actions the day before.

As always he road along the borders high atop his mighty war horse. Its own facial expression mirroring its rider stone faced and easily irritated. Saluce was sore, and the ride was more pleasant than walking, his armor was still worn as always, the blood having been cleaned from it. Generally his mood was still sour; having been a madman murderer in his own right while young, his own path had lead him to Dahlia and he had found a purpose here, but still old ways died hard. Having the knowledge and the ability to be a bastion of good, while keeping his dirty past kept firmly in the past and moving forward.

So it was no surprise that his hackles rose in response to the presence that called out to pack in greeting. He urged his horse onward to the call to perform the duties he always delighted in.

The horse trotted a few feet away from the caller, before stopping as the male looked down on the wolf with a skeptical eye. The mountain was always a terrible greeter, so he sat there for a few moments attaining the physical cues given to him about this wolfs heritage.

“Bonjour, I am Saluce Tremblay of Dahlia de Mai, what is your business here today?”

Ready as he ever could be didn’t seem to be quite ready enough. Jaden still sat heart-a-pounding and waiting for a greeting when he was met by Saluce’s fearsome and noble appearance. What a shock the armored up worrier was. Previous meetings the Alaskan had held with Dahlia members had never hinted that such warriors existed inside the pack. Both had been practically harmless. A pause as Saluce looked the boarder caller up and down gave enough time for Jaden to get over his shock and accept that a noble pack would naturally have noble warriors.

Saluce’s appearance also did quite a bit to help Jaden’s nervous heart. The fear he felt in having to battle with words was quickly replaced with fear that this steel wearing male might attack him. This fear was more understood and strangely almost comforting. The could-be victim quickly flipped around plans of escape in his mind if an attack came while looked for weaknesses in the other man’s armor incase they had to fight. When Saluce spoke, the Alaskan was in the middle of figuring out how he could escape the mean looking stallion in front of him.

“It is a pleasure to meet you Saluce Tremblay,” said Jaden in a slightly nervous and neutral tone, “My name is Jaden Ohanzee”. He lowered his head in an instinctual submissive gesture, stayed seated where he was, and thought of a good reply as to why he was here. With all the worrying that had swept up his mind, Jaden suddenly found that he had never thought about what to actually say when asked about his business with Dahlia de Mai.

For a few long moments, Jaden’s brow furrowed and his jaw tilled as he attempted to put his desire into appropriate words. ‘I want to join Dahlia de Mai!’ seemed a little bit blunt, but what more could be said? It wasn’t an idea that could be crept upon and what would they make small talk about first? Saluce looked a little worn out and defiantly like he had some place to be. He might easily view such charismatic attempts as a waist of time. So, Jaden sighed and reworded his answer only slightly to make it more polite. “I would like to join your pack.”

Jaden does. "Jaden speaks." Jaden thinks.

Saluce watched all the little reactions within the male as he studied him. Nervous energy seemed to ebb from him in waves and he had already guessed to some extent the reason for his visit here. All things about Saluce’s posture screamed dominant, eyes almost seething with malcontent. It was the show, the song and dance, the mountain never played nice when it came to joiners. As much as he had been told to soften his demeanor, a joiner had to prove their worth in his eyes, mentally for the most part. He had allowed several entrances into this pack and most of them had left, so the track record in his mind for weak minded individuals was very low.

“What do you have to offer this pack? What skills and assets would you be able to contribute Jaden?” the question was a mere formality but the tone behind it spoke volumes. He thought nothing of this wolf right now, and his opinion would need to be changed by the joiner. Saluce sat idly a top the horse for the moment, almost seeming to be a bit bored before waiting for this new applicants answer. Truthfully he enjoyed greeting joiners, it was part of his job duty, and plus it was always a nice day when he could make someone uncomfortable.

Jaden continued to play the part. He let his head stay low and pulled his tail to his body. The wolf was a very proud and doing so felt odd but far from wrong. Saluce had every right to disrespect and question the loner. He was the gait keeper and the decider now. Jaden would have to be humble and submissive. Whether he liked it or not, it was how things worked.

Though Jaden hadn’t anticipated his first words during his interaction with Saluce, he had foreseen this question. It only made sense that if Dahlia accepted him they would want something he could contribute. He hadn’t planned on just loafing around and mooching. What respectable wolf would? “I have much to offer Dahlia de Mai.” Jaden reassured Saluce respectfully. “I’m a warrior, a fine hunter, and an able scout.” That was probably the Alaskan’s best attribute: his speed. Once he started training again, which he intended to, Jaden could easily out run most wolves. The bow that was strapped to the outside of his satchel made him a good long-range warrior and hunter. “Such experience makes me able to fill many positions but, should you accept me into you’re pack, I would like very much to hold the boarders and protect our—your land.” Jaden quickly corrected himself and tried not to sound overly eager. It would do no good to seem like an exited puppy to this warrior. The tone he used insured that nothing but judgment was flowing through his mind now. Hoping his answer was adequate, Jaden waited nervously for that judgment to reach the stranger’s maw. “It would be an honor.” He added honestly.

Jaden does. "Jaden speaks." Jaden thinks.
