i've set this as gideon & family, in case anyone wanted to come and watch/help out! set 8th july . 9am onward . Cerne Rise, Trenton. 471 words

They'd moved in yesterday to the apartment building that was going to become home. They didnt have a lot of belongings to move in, to claim their own apartments and spend their first night there. There was a lot to do with the building, the front door needed fixing or replacing, a few of the window panes needed replacing although the windows as a whole were in good condition. He supposed it was because the windows were such good quality that they'd survived this long and he was pleased to find the large window upstairs relatively undamaged despite the caved roof so close by. That was the first thing that needed fixing, and the rest would follow. The night before had been their first night in their new homes and Saul had been worried sick. What if they didnt like it here, what if he'd chosen wrong. What if he was forcing them to live here when they didnt want to? These thoughts plagued his mind, moving from Wretch who had taken the apartment next to theirs, to Eclipse who had taken the one across the hall from her. Gideon and Nayru had taken the first room on the ground floor, while Melee and Range took the one adjacent to theirs. They were fresh and new in this building and his first night hadnt exactly been the most restful.

Half of it had come from the work that needed to be done and he woke earlier than usual this morning. He moved easily through the territory now, wondering whether he should go up to the barn and see his horses. Arete had been rather indignant that he leave her there when he'd dropped them off the day before yesterday, after Eclipse had been accepted into Ichika. But there was too much to do today and he'd finally roped Gideon into helping him out. He knew his darker brother wasnt excellent at manual labour, and Saul probably could fix the roof on his own. But it would be nice to have his brother help. Since Saul had found the apartment building, he's scoured the lands for suitable bits of wood to replace those broken, It had been easy in the unpicked towards of Westville and Trenton to find suitable pieces of wood to replace the roof with. Most of the tiles were fine to put back up- he just needed to replace all the wood before hand.

The summer morning light was bright in the corridor of Cerne Rise as he exited his room again- he'd already been out for his bath and morning run. He gave a soft 'good morning' to Wretch before he entered the room of apartment eight. He would be spending a bit of time in here over the next few days, fixing it up, making it habitable.

Nayru hadn’t been opposed to the idea of living in the apartment building. When Saul had first shown it to him he’d been amazed at the size and number of rooms; a few of the rooms appeared to have been broken into or looted, but there were some in the back that didn’t seem as bad. Gideon personally preferred a room on the ground floor, one that was closest to the door if at all possible...and it would seem that that room was available. Melee and Range would be staying in the one next to him and Nayru so that they could each have their own space as well. He was proud of them and proud of the way that they were growing and developing…but it left a small ache in his heart to see them move their things into a different place than his own, even if it was just right next door. He’d see them often enough.

Saul had asked for his help the day before and the male had offered it freely. He didn’t have much to do to occupy himself during the day yet, having not yet found a suitable weapon besides his sling to work with. He was considering learning the bow and using arrows, if he could find them….or perhaps make them. Gideon would have to see what he could find. Life was looking up for him now that they had settled in Ichika; he and Nayru were living together as a new couple and any day in which he got to see her and be around her was a good day in his books, already. She’d been up before he had gotten up to help Saul, and was likely off doing pack related business.

Gideon hoped that his brother had some tools with which to fix the place up…he only had a large rock that he had been using as a hammer in the past. He’d brought it with him as he had climbed the stairs up to the next floor, just in case. ”Heyyy” He called, peeking into the room. ”Melee might join us in a little bit…but she’s still sleeping, as far as I know. And I’m not sure where Nayru is...if she went off to do some pack things or not” There was probably a lot to do, still. She had the responsibility of making sure that the members were all happy and getting along, after all.

Eclipse had been pondering about the seeds, they were something special to her and she would have to plant them very soon, but Razekiel said she would know where to plant them and the occasion had not arose. She had mostly stuck to her new home, which was wherever Saul was. She stuck around him, though in the shadows. She didn't want to be a burden on him, and he seemed to be an anchor for a new pack, with family and old friends. She was about to move outside to figure out where to plant the seeds when she saw the backside of one of her other cousins in Saul's doorway. Her interest peeked and natural curiosity brought her over to the door, but she stayed quiet, though made her presence known and she couldn't hear what was being said. She could feel an air of... what was it? She was still new to these grown up feelings and senses. She would wait though. She knew she'd get an answer soon enough. She would just pretend she needed to see Saul or something.

It was an impossible task, the roof. Or perhaps not, since Saul had already built his own roof over the cabin. And if he could do it now, with his family around him, it would just be something more to add to the building. In his gut, he'd felt nervous about this. What if the rest of the residents didnt put as much effort into it? What if he ended up doing everything and nobody helped him? He had more to do than fix the building up on his own, including the training of Hermes and Arete. He didnt want the same thing to happen that had happened at the cabin- Saluce had offered his help, but he'd left. And Gideon was perhaps not good at manual labour, plus the fact that he'd been injured and couldnt help. Saul had slogged his guts out finishing the cabin and although it was valuable in teaching him the skills he was using today, it was an unpleasent experiance to say the least. Standing in the middle of the destruction, Saul didnt know where to begin for the moment.

His brothers voice interupted him and he turned to see his dark brother in the door, a huge rock in his hands. Luckily, on his travels around Halifax to find building material, the male had picked up a variety of tools that would work better. A hammer that didnt seem in too bad a condition- a few spots of rust here and there. A screw driver that was just slightly bent, but useable. The list continued, down to the handful of rusted nails he'd pulled from quite a few of the planks of wood he'd collected for today's job. It would take more than a day to complete this roof, but he at least intended to get the supports up and secure. Gideon updated him on the whereabouts of a few of the family, and Saul gave a chuckle at Gideon's mention of Nayru. He remembered the 'conversation' he'd had with her about her and Gideon. She'd assured him that she wasnt leading him on and he believed they were now classed as mates... or a couple or whatever. Still, he was happy for the dark male and smiled towards him.

"If she isnt up soon, we'll drag her out to help pick up and stack these tiles. We can use them, since most of them arent damaged. But we really need to get the a-beams up today... which means removing all the old, rotting wood and replacing it. Luckily, I've built a roof before!"

He chuckled before turning back to mess. The roof had collapsed in on itself after the weight of the snow and the gale force winds had been too much for it. Most of the tiles had been encased in snow and had survived the fall from roof to floor. Most of the damage seemed over the living room/diner/kitchen open planned area, and the bedrooms were inaccessible but dry. The majority of the damage was in this central section. A movement to the door made him pause and he looked around. Now Gideon had moved into the room, he could see Eclipse in the doorway, completely unsure of what to do. Unbeknown to her, her cousin had come up behind her, Range in his optime form. "Eclipse, what are you doing standing outside the door? Go on in!" The energetic boy had bounded into the room before Eclipse had moved and he came to hug Gideon and then Saul. Saul smiled softly, griping his nephew in a tight hug. With the four of them, they would make light work of the mess first of all.

"Okay, we'll need to start clearing and stacking the tiles, neatly so they'll be easier to put back up again! Range, if you take the back corner... Gideon, you could start just here and I'll head over to the kitchen area. Eclipse, dear, if you could go anywhere in between and pick up all the broken bits of tile, it would really help."

He said with a smile before he turned towards the kitchen. Range had already taken up his mantle on the floor, clearing a space for him to sit and then stacking all the tiles in the immediate area around him. Saul liked his method and created some floor space for himself, beginning to clean away all the damage the snowstorm had done to the room.

Smile Sorry I'm late.. again

Siku considered going straight to work on the vineyards. She had so much to do, and people to find. The important task of making wine was placed upon the white faced woman, to her surprise. It was obvious that she was interested in helping, but the role was placed solely on her and for that Siku was stressed. What if she didn't do a good job? What will happen if it tastes horrible? She worried herself but tried not to think too hard on it as she hunted down her best friend. Saul had told her of his plans to fix up the apartment they would all share, and the golden eyed Doyu decided to help with that first. It was not hard for her to find him, and the woman smiled as she poked her head into room eight and knocked lightly on the open door. "Hey guys, am I late?"

Siku grinned at Saul, and stepped lightly around Gideon and Eclipse as she made her way to the earthen hued man. They had spoken little since their arrival, which was understandable as Saul had many more responsibilities than Siku, and she was happy to help and wait for things to settle down. She missed the privacy of their cabin; how easy it was to steal away with Saul whenever she missed his presence, but the dynamics of their entire pack had shifted along with their population. It meant she would have to treasure every moment she saw the man, and this she did. A hand moved to touch the side of Saul's face in greeting, but only lingered for a second before she pulled away to turn to the others. "What should I do?" She murmured, golden eyes scanning the apartment as she held her hands behind her back and imagined the confined space as home. It was hard to do, but Siku glanced back at Saul and smiled again. As long as they were all together..

The shy girl had hung back that morning when Saul had left, unsure about going if such a big group would be there to help out. They would probably have to work on it for a few weeks to get a few of the rooms back in shape, though, and she really wanted that blue room all for herself. She'd brought a few things to the room that she had kept back home like her fluffy blanket and a few precious stones that she had collected, so hopefully others would realize that she wanted that one all for herself.

She crept toward the room where all of the commotion was happening, heart beating quickly. She padded toward the noise and began to shake slightly from nerves, paws skittering on the floors as she jumped at a loud nearby sound. How many others had come to help out? She had only brought her two paws...Saul hadn't told her to bring anything else. Maybe he hadn't expected her to come at all. She kept back from the group gathered around the doorway, trying to find her voice.

no posting order- I really want to keep this thread going, since it would not to good to have the roof fixing thread go dead! so yes, NO POSTING ORDER!

He had no idea that Siku was going to come along. She had been reclusive as of late and the young agouti male didnt know what to do about his best friends reservedness. He remembered being back in Dahlia, playing in the snow with the white wolf who was scared of shifting. He remembered his first time meeting her, her seeking acceptance when she was all on her own. She'd intrigued him then, and he was not disappointed. As her white form moved into the doorway, her timid voice asking if she was late, the young males face lit up. He shook his head softly before replying with "Not at all Siku- come in, come in." He called from his corner. Range looked up and waved softly, offering a pleasent "Hello Siku" before going back to stacking the tiles in his corner of the room. Saul flashed a smile at his nephew, which the brown and creme male returned. He was a pleasent and nice boy, a testiment to Gideon's parenting. Saul remembered when he'd first found out about Gideon's children, wondering what on earth his brother had been thinking. But it was clear his brother had been ready to take on that responsibility.

Siku stepped around Gideon and Eclipse, coming closer. He didnt understand the flipping in his stomach, the light headed happiness, nor the tug of his heart towards her. She stopped in front of him, laying a gentle hand down on his face for just a few moments before she turned to survey the room. It left her vulnerable from him and he glanced around once before sneakily nipping at the end of Siku's tail. Range looked up and laughed quietly and Saul cast him a sidelong glance. "Siku, if you could help Eclipse tidying up around here, I think we're mostly done with gathering all the whole tiles. Now that its all in piles, we'll be able to reuse them better. If you and Eclipse could start cleaning, sweeping all the dirt into a big pile in the middle, start getting things cleared up, it would be a big help. I need to go up and start ripping down all the broken bits of roof." He said with a chuckle. Standing up once more, he almost missed Wretch in the doorway. She had crept forward without saying a word. Saul smiled softly and beckoned her forward. "Come on Wretch, you can come and help Siku and Eclipse. Just start clearing away all the rubbish sweety."

He smiled softly before looking around. He needed something to standing on to actually get to the roof. He spotted a dining table that was tall enough to get him up to the ceiling. It was undamaged, which surprised him. He dragged it over, almost knocking over his pile of carefully placed tiles in the process. However, Range steadied the pile before coming to stand by the table and hold that steady as Saul clambered on top of the table. He could reach the broken roof now, the sunlight warm on his head. And a deep breath, he began to drag in all the damaged wood and tiles back into the room. The damaged area wasnt as big as they first thought and within fifteen minutes the male had cleared away all of the damaged roof and secured a rectangle where he needed to replace the roof. He paused for a moment, looking back down and smiling softly towards his family.

Just as Gideon had Nayru, Saul had his Siku. The darker of the two brothers was pleased to see that the white female had made it to the gathering, and his tail wagged quickly behind him to show his good mood. It would appear that his mood was going to improve even more, however; Eclipse was there as well, and he spotted an off-white female with bright blue eyes that he identified as being Wretch sticking out from around the corner. She was watching the group, but hadn't said anything yet. "Sounds great, Saul. And it's wonderful to see all of you here"

He hadn't realized that so many members of their family would be coming to join in on fixing these rooms up. With all of this help, they'd get everything done in no time! He grinned as he stepped through the doorway. He began to pick up tiles from where they had fallen, examining them for damage before placing them into a neat stack in the corner. They'd need to get the room cleaned up and the roof fixed, for a start.

If someone wants to talk to her they can; she's just shy XD;;

She approached the doorway as others passed through it, watching the group with curious eyes. She had never been around such a large group before with the exception of the pack meeting. But at the meeting she hadn't been expected to really contribute much or interact socially, so that hadn't been too bad. What would this be like? Wretch swallowed hard, fingers shaking as her claws dug into the wood of the doorframe slightly to support her unsteady legs. It just felt like there were so many luperci here. How were all of these luperci related to Saul?

When Saul spoke her name her ears went back slightly, wincing at his voice addressing her in front of the group of Luperci. He gave her a direction and she darted quickly into the room, picking up a fallen broom from the corner and beginning to sweep at the floor with a fervor. She didn't look up at the others as she worked, concentrating on keeping to the task she had been assigned to and trying to avoid the others altogether if she could. Were they all staring at her, or did it just feel like they were? She wasn't sure.

She vaguely remembered that she was supposed to help Saul with something, and it seemed as though a large family gathering came along. She felt pressed in as people she knew and didn't know came into the hall to see what Saul wanted to do, When he asked her to clean the rubble, she looked around, and wasn't sure where to start, or even where to put it all. She looked up at the older woman who was to help her and then the young girl that shared the opposite room. She felt more comfortable asking the young girl so she moved closer to wretch and whispered

Do you know where we gotta put it all?

She was not shy herself, so she didn't expect anyone else to hide. She was more apprehensive than anything, especially now in a time where she was not sure she had done the right thing, though Razekiel had made her feel so welcome. She hoped the other girl did, because she didn't want to have to bother with the elder wolves.

Saul saw Eclipse approach Wretch, a quiet question on his cousins lips. He knew Eclipse had never met Wretch, and while his darker coated cousin had been in Dahlia long enough for Siku to have arrived, he doubted she would remember her. Still, living under one roof would aquaint them well enough he was sure. Standing on the table he looked down at Range, grinning softly towards the boy. Along with Gideon and Saul, he was the only other male in the house and he knew he was eventually going to be overcome by the eostrogen in the house. It was amusing, but true. Saul vowed to try and do as much manly things with the boy to keep his masculinity in tact over the coming months. He knew Range was eager to help around the large building, help that Saul was more than grateful for. Gesturing for the dark boy to join him on the table, he smiled as the Soul male eagerly clambered aboard.

"Range, I need your help to keep the roof stable while we remove the damaged half of the a-beam. I intend to knock it out, and then Gideon-" He paused to look back at his brother. "If you could hand up the new beam once the old one is on the floor?"

He asked, tail wagging as his brother agreed to the plan. With a grin, he turned back to the beam. The apartment had no ceiling as normal houses did, more to the fact that it was on the side of the building. Instead, the inside of the roof served as the cieling, giving the room a very high veiw. It was the same in all of the rooms in the upstairs section. Arranging with his nephew to first help him unscrew the bolts holding the beam to the main frame, then allowing the boy to hold up any unstable bits of the roof as he began knocking the beam out. With an almighty crash, the half of the structure they had wished to remove hit the floor with a thunderour crash. Looking back to see if anyone had been harmed, he was pleased to see they were all doing well. He grinned softly, hooking the hammer into his belt as he looked to Gideon. The beam was heavy and he had Range abandon his efforts to keep the undamaged roof in tact. A few more bits of plaster fell in, but it was otherwise unaffected by the removal of one of the support beams.

"Thank you Gideon" He grunted as he pulled the beam up, handing half to Range. The boy held it firmly, the two of them balanced on the table as they looked back up at the damaged roof. They would have to place the end of the beam into the bottom joist then push it up to join at the top. They would then have to nail the flatboards to the outside and then the inside, to create a ceiling devoid of an ugly beam naked up there. Leaving Range to hold the majority of the weight, Saul began to hammer in the wooden pags used for holding the beam in place at the joints they had just unscrewed the old beam from. Soon enough, they would have a working roof up here.

He was ready to start getting this place fixed up. With all the canines that they had to do various tasks, maybe it wouldn't take as long as he had anticipated. Gideon was excited to get going on it so that they could get it finished and have accomplished at least one thing in these new lands. The male wanted to feel like he could accomplish something here, just as he had back home. He followed his brother's instructions easily, using his bulk to all of their advantage.

The male wondered what their home would look like once it'd been patched up a little. The exterior could use some fixing up, too...maybe he could get Wretch to help him with some of that later. The park had many flowers and plants that had grown wild during the time since the demise of the human population, and they could replant some around the place to spruce it up a bit. It seemed like a task that the shy girl might enjoy. "Wretch" He called, spotting her near Eclipse. "We should work outside tomorrow, if it doesn't rain. Replant some flowers and plants around the outside. In the morning, perhaps?"

Wretch was very into the task of sweeping, and she tried to stay out of the way of the others. She didn't know a few of them, despite seeing them around the cabin a couple of times. Wretch had isolated herself in the area that she, Saul, and Siku had lived in back in Dahlia de Mai...it was the way that she liked to live. Out of anyone's way, not causing any harm or trouble to any other creature. She just liked to keep to herself.

A voice made her jump slightly, a girl around her own age staring back at her with eyes just as vividly blue as her own. "I.." Her voice faltered for a moment. "If it's rubbish that we can't use or put back on the roof..I think we should throw it away. We could put it in..um..the hall" She offered. "Do you need help?" The timid girl's voice was soft as she spoke back, ears perked in anticipation of a reply to her questions.

She heard Gideon's voice next and looked up at him, nodding quickly. "Of course.." She said, swallowing. This would certainly be an experience, working with all of these other luperci. Hopefully the place got fixed up soon so that she could go back to her normal routine, though.

finishing here- the threads been up well over a month so there's no need for more posting.

The wooden beam was handed swiftly up to him and Saul was quiet for the next few minutes as he set it up properly. It was good to be around his family, although he knew that it would take a while for him to finish the roof properly. The second leg of their journey together- he and the roof, would be completed on his own, as if involved being on the outside of the roof, hammering the tiles into place so they wouldnt move this time. It took him and Range only a short while to make sure everything was in place before Saul let his aching hands drop from the beam, stretching his protesting shoulder muscles by swinging his arms around his body before clambering down off the table. Range followed suit as the two of them surveyed the room. It was looking much cleaner and Saul was pleased that once the roof was fixed, there wasnt a lot else that they would have to do to it until there was a new owner of the apartment. He sourly hoped that owner to be his brother or sister, he didnt care which.

Eyeing the four boards they'd bought in with the wooden beam, Saul quickly confered that he wished to do the inside ones first and then they could do the outside ones at a later date. Grabbing the first, as well as a handful of nails Saul jumped back up onto the table, lining the board up as best he could. Of course, it hadnt been a clean break and there wasnt a perfect square to patch up. So the board overlapped in places with the old ceiling but there was really very little he could do about that. Holding the board in place he quickly moved to hammer the nails in to secure it there. Where his own grip failed, Range came up to hold it into place and the young male was sourly glad for his nephew's help in the matter. It didnt take them very long at all to fit the two flatboard over the gaping hole and seal up the room. Had it not been for the windows shedding light into the room, it would have been plunged into darkness. Looking around at those assembled, Saul grinned softly.

"Thank you all for your help, it was great! Eclipse, would you like to complete your task tomorrow?" He paused, looking towards his cousin as she confirmed yes. They would get up early and go planting as Razekiel had asked her to do. The family stuck around a bit longer before Saul herded them out the door and off to their respective passtimes- he had to go outside and hammer the boards into the outside now. It would take some balance but he was sure he would be fine. For safety measures he took Range, standing on the ground and ready to catch him should he fall.
