On The Hunt

Failpost XD I think downwind in the right term o.o, set somewhere just out of cda

Galileo's teak dipped paws moved with an air of purpose about them. With his bow slung across his body, his arrows rattling within their quiver and the hidden cane sword hanging onto the belt which was slung around his waist, the dusted male certainly did have a purpose. He had left the confinds of Cercatori d'Arte, though not far away, ready to sublimate his raw, feral need to tear flesh, into a nobler sport. Hunting. Of course, it was unlikely that he would use either of the weapons he carried when he set to hunting. It was more likely that he would leave his possesions elsewhere while he hunted, probably in his secui or lupus form.

A silent breeze make the shaded male's dark locks dance lightly, as blumine eyes scanned the horizon. The faint scent of rabbits hit the male's nose, they were downwind of him luckily, there was no chance of them catching a scent of Galileo. He moved slowly towards the scent, pulling the bow from his body and clutching it within his hand. His pace was slow, as there was no need to rush and the sound of doing so would only scared the creatures Galileo intended to hunt.

OOC: Sorry about the wait Sad

Shawchert was getting use to getting into another routine. This one was much more different than the one he had before, where he would be carefree and playing his flute nonstop. Now his flute lay dorment against his chest at all times, it was still taken care of, but he did not play it. Instead he had found his new home. In the trees, where he had the vantage point no other had. He would not lay claim to the whole thing, but for now he had use of it all to himself, it was old, and he had to be careful, but in time he would fix it up, but for now his first thought was on Sky. He found that he could possibly hunt for her. Give her the rabbit, either cooked or not, make something out of the hide. He wanted to show her he would provide for her, but first he found some wild flowers to set at her door with a few herbs he had found along the way, letting her know he knew her, that he knew she was the healer of the pack, and that he respected her so much for that, that he would help, then he found himself in the midst of his Secui form, which was oddly a bit faster than his lupus form. He would be able to give chase easy. Shaw was a natural hunter, so he had to stalk up on his prey, and his most recent discovery was something rarely seen, but quite welcome. Rabbit, not just one but a good few, he suspected it was a herd of siblings near ready to go out on their own and repopulate even more. He knew with one less, things would not crumble and fall, so finding a good position, he did not notice the other readying his weapon. He was on the verge of getting Sky a good meal. He rushed in when he felt the need to, his eye on the target he had chosen. It was not necessary to part this herd, for they were as helpless as babies, which made them so easy to hunt, but they were damn fast. Once he moved he scattered the small herd of rabbits, his concentration on the one he had his eyes on. Leaping forth, he was able to catch it by the hind foot, knowing it was his now. One paw covered its belly as he let go of the leg and snapped its neck, he was unaware of what was happening around him

The dark male, turned at the scent of another male. By what Galileo could smell, he was from this pack, but obviously not someone who he had met before. Galileo turned back to the the rabbit he had been stalking, his eyes narrowing in thought and his tongue sweeping around his mouth, the poor creature still had no idea what was going on, well more dumb rather than poor, but rabbits were lower creatures so no real sympathy was afforded for the small creature as it went about the remainder of it's now condemmed life. The dusted male smiled slyly before leaping forward and crushing the creature's chest, before breaking it's neck, quickly so that it wasn't in any pain. Slinging the rabbit into his mouth, he moved towards the scent slowly, he came upon a large male, who had just caught a rabbit himself.

Galileo sat down and watched as the male finished off the creature, dropping his own catch and simly saying, 'Nice catch'. He smiled, glancing behind him lazily and the back again. He relaxed in his sitting position casually, letting his duster like tail lie beside him, curled around his paws.

OOC: My first table in nearly a month!

Shawchert had felt the presence of the other man for a little while, but he did not seem to want to bother Shaw, he took his time in making sure his kill was successful before looking towards the other man, who seemed ot have gotten himself his own kill. Standing at full height now he smiled at the man, looking him over. It was not his normal happy grin, it was just a smile of welcome. He was quiet as he contemplated the man, looked him over and in a few moments spoke.

“Thank you, it seems you’ve made one yourself. My name is Shawchert Menue.”

The man offered his name wondering how long this man had been here, he seemed nice enough. From what Shawchert gathered he liked to stay out on his own and was not the most talkative of the bunch, but this was just Shawchert’s first opinion of the man, he was sure that this was to change if he got to know him better. He doubted his own name would mean much to the other man, and he wouldn’t mind either. He was no longer a leader anymore. He was just a normal member now and he wasn’t about to change it.

sorry this took so long :| !

'Thanks' Galileo said, smiling towards the male before glancing down at his own prey. Although his would keep him fed for a day or so, it wouldn't feed his worth to the pack. It wouldn't get him nearer his co-rank. He wasn't even that hungry today, Iven had fed him that morning. The grey male seemed to do everything for Galileo, make him look good, feed him clothe him. And although Galileo had never formally thanked him for all his work, he did respect the large amount of talent the German male had for many things, and the willingness he had to wait on his friend hand and foot.

Galileo lifted his head, sniffing the air. Rabbits, rabbits and more bloody rabbits. Nothing big enough to dig one's teeth into without ruining the worthy meat. Galileo didn't mind though, if he could get his co-rank it would all be worth it. 'I'm going to go and find some more, your welcome to come along if you like' Galileo said, standing and stretching his legs. Although he prefered hunting, if more people saw his talents, it'd be better. And what more, wasn't socialising everything when in a pack?

Shawchert was slightly put off at the man’s omission of his name, but maybe he was excited for the hunt. Shawchert wondered why as he wasn’t even eager to eat his meal that he’d already caught. Then again the only thing shaw was eager about the rabbit he caught was to give it to Sky. To show her he would provide for her, but as the man stated he was going to continue to hunt, why not hunt for the rest of the pack?

“Hey how about we take something a little bigger on. The doe are away from their buck, we could tag team one of them.”

Shawchert suggested. Shawchert knew he could take down a deer if he had help. To have someone chase her right to him, he could easily use what brute force he could to take her down.

“I mean if you didn’t just want rabbit that is.”

He added, shrugging, well more like pulling his head down and tilting it. His large bulky form was something to behold and this mand didn’t seemed to bothered by it, which made Shawchert feel a bit more confident about suggesting the duo hunt.

Galileo considered the man's proposal for a moment, shrugging himself before replying, 'If you don't mind, I doubt I'll get a co-rank by hunting rabbits all the time'. Even though his face was a picture of dead pan, a small smile secured his approval of the idea, and the amusement he found in his own comment. He stood, 'So, you know where to find the, I guess?' Galileo didn't, but if this male could show him he'd be grateful, since this male obviously had been here longer than Galileo himself.

The gentleman raised himself from his haunches with a shake of his body, he stretched his legs once by one as he spoke, 'I'm Gaileo Gray, by the way'. He smiled briefly at the accidental rhyme he had made, and then went back to plain facing his surroundings. His co-rank was one thing Iven wasn't helping him with. That was where Galileo drew the line, he wanted o get the co-rank on his own without his right hand man's help. Iven had assumed he'd never get the rank, but he was well on his way to getting it.

Shawchert was happy the man agreed to it. He did need to release some pent up energy and what better way than to hunt large game? Galileo asked him to lead the way, and shawchert nodded. Well the man would have to learn how to track deer if it were to be his co rank, but the large brute wasn't going to say this. He had seen the deer earlier in his patrols that morning after all.

Nice to meet you I'm Shawchert Menue.

He said, and that was it as he wanted to be as quiet as possible. He trotted deeper into the forest where he knew the deer were and soon found them chewing away at leaves and sparse grass and moss. There were six doe, but Shaw knew they only needed one. Looking over at Galileo he motioned for the man to pick one. He would have to stay low, if things went right the other man would run one too him. Shaw was not a fast creature so he couldn't take one down by himself. And chasing after one... well he'd have troubles steering the animal around. Team work was the best way to go and it Galileo used his spead and stamina, and Shaw, his strength, the both of them could easily take this deer down

OOC here!

Galileo followed on silently, a tiny bit irritated by the need for help, but there was no escaping the situation and he swallowed his pride and sauntered onwards. His secui form was nowhere near the size of Shaw's, to any other male this would have probably made the slightly uncomfortable. But Galileo didn't care, he had once defeated a male of his size before, though that had been a mix of sheer dumb luck and intelligance. And there was the fact that he held a higher rank, although neither of the facts mattered, it got Galileo though with a (albeit gritted) smile.

Shawchert brought him to where six does stood, Galileo sighed, pursing his lips and surveying them one by one. All of the does seemed fit enough, five were athletic looking and skinny. They'd put up too much of a chase and with the amount of fat on them it would be a lost cause. The sixth was plump, with shorter legs and a lot larger chance of becoming the male's dinner. 'The one on the far right. Healthy, large, slow enough for us to catch her'. He spopke calmly, his tail flicking happily behind him.

Shawchert was quiet throughout the quick walk to the deer. Had he known Galileo's thoughts he would have laughed at the man for his assumption in ranking, though not said that he had once been the creator of this pack. That his mind had brought what this pack was now, although Skye had changed it around, it was only slight, and to Shaw, far better. What was important was what was on the man's mind. The deer he'd seen. Looking out to the herd they stopped at; he could see which deer Galileo was talking about and nodded.

"You bring her here, i'll get her down. We'll see who kills her when it happens"

Shaw said, he knew he would kill her if he had the chance, but to get a deer as plump as her, it would take quite a bit of strength to get her to the ground, he'd probably even have to fight with her.

'Who ever gets the chance first' Galileo said with a stoic nod. He crept forward with a sense of purpose in his pace, his golden paws padded silently on the forest floor. He skirted the clearing like a ghost, keeping his blumine eyes focused on the deer. It took him a while to get to the side of the clearing facing the rear of the herd, but to his relief only a single doe was facing his side. He was faster though and it would be easy since she wasn't their target. He slipped forward out of the shadows. He let out a single growl and lauched forwards.

He set his sights on the larger female, veering away to the side and blocking her escape. She bolted straight for where Shawchert was waiting for it. Galileo gave out a brief howl, calling him forward. He ran his tongue over his teeth, even though it was unlikely that he'd be the one to give the killing blow, he had a plan. 'Shaw, now' he shouted, launching himself forward and taking hold of the herd animals leg and tripping in enough to disable the rear end. Shawchert whould deal with the more dangerous end.

Shawchert patiently waited, he could see his pack mate, only because he knew where he was headed and had saw him moving that way, now he could see the doe was coming to him and as he got the signal Shawchert rushed at her, barely getting to her when Galileo took her legs. Shawchert thought that was suicide, they were powerful things, but it had gotten her down, and tripped her, he launched his teeth right for her throat, tearing skin and cartilage as he did. his front legs were pushing at the front flanks of the doe trying to keep away from kicking legs he pushed off, keeping his grip on her throat, finding a better spot to hold the thrashing animal. It did not take long for her to lose her breath and slow down, soon she was gone, though Shaw held her for a while to make sure. Letting her go, he stood triumphant, looking over at his partner and smiled.

"Let's give thanks for such a clean kill."

He said, bowing his head, low, thanking the dead deer for her life and his promise he would not allow her death to be nothing. He would make sure to use all of what she had to offer.

It had been an insane, suicitly idea, but it had worked. The prey was down, dead, and with a bloody nose to show for his effort, he dumped himself down beside his hunting partner. 'Yeah...' he said, clearly tired from his run. He had bled for the kill already, so there was no need to shed more specifically. 'So what are we going to do with... this' he gestured with his muzzle lazily. They could try to drag it back whole, but that would take effort, much more than needed. But perhaps that was their only option. Either way, he'd be happy to get it back.

'Thank you, for helping' Galileo said, his words blunt and awkward. He didn't often need to thank people but this time called for it and he would be not spotlighted for avoiding politeness. 'We've got to devide this too. Some for you, some for me. And we should devide some for the pack too...' After all, wasn't that what the hunter's co-rank was for, providing for the pack and those who cannot hunt for themselves? Working with others would show his ability to be versatile which of course was important.

WC: 321 OOC: Mmmm meat!

When Shaw finished he looked up at Galileo and smiled. The man was always prepared and might teach the other one to be so as well. He knew he was hunting so he had his knife where he'd started, back where the rabbit was. He hid it so when he would need it, it would be available to him.

“If you would watch the deer I have something that will help us all, unless we make a makeshift travois, that way we can take it back whole together. Though I suppose we'd need rope, let me go get my stuff and I'll be right back!

He didn't wait for an answer, he headed straight for the spot he'd hunted the rabbit and then a little further down where he'd left the satchel that held his after hunt supplies. Grabbing it in his teeth he turned and ran back to Galileo. It probably took longer than possible, but the man was not scared that Galileo would lose their kill. Setting the pack down he grinned.

“We can probably use the travois to bring to the lodge and then decide what we want to do with it, or we can cut it up now, it's up to you.”

He said, he had the rope in his bag, though old, it was still sterdy enough to hold something, and his knife, which was made to cut thick hard things. He'd made it himself, though it wasn't as good as the shiny metal ones, it went through skin and meat nice enough. It was made of a large moose bone, attatched to a wooden handle he designed just for himself. He used to have a metal knife but he had lost it when he left Cercatori. It was a good knife but for a craftsman such as himself to be left without any tools to use... he'd just make new ones.

The reddish male skittered of before he could reply. Not that Galileo minded, he knew Shawchert would be back without question and if he said he had things that would help then naturally Galileo would trust him. And Galileo was lazy, anything that woul make a load lighter was fine by him, Iven was usually the person who did anything for him. And if there was any way Iven could hunt and Galileo could take the credit for it, Galileo would be pleased to no end. But sadly things didn't work out like that and he knew that the Skye was watching him to make sure he deserved the rank.

Shaw came back as quick as he left. But perhaps that was Galileo's daydreaming speeding up time. He asked Galileo wheter he wished to cut it now or later and after a moments consideration Galileo decided. 'Later, it'll make lee mess that way'. Again, laziness. He couldn't be bothered to clean where ever the guts dripped. And Shawchert was large and he was average sized, with both in Secui form it was a simple job to transport a larger prey animal to where ever they needed it.
