11th july. 10am. Cerne Rise.

A few days had passed since they'd come together to fix the roof and the agouti male was pleased with the work that had gone on. He was even more happy that his family had been there to help him, to learn something new and support their home. Saul had been so scared that nobody was going to make an effort in rebuilding and restoring the building he'd chosen as base. There was still a lot of work to do however, the roof was just the most urgent of tasks to be completed. The half of the a-beam needed to fix the roof was up and the male had found some suitable sheets of plywood to attach to the roof. It had taken him a while, but after a good chase the male had managed to collect enough sheeps wool to create enough insulation in the roof. Bordering it up on the inside had been harder, but it had been done. And all that the male needed to do was start putting the tiles back up in a neat and tidy fashion. He would have to research how to do the tiling on the roof, as he hadnt done that before. But he assumed it would be like any other form of construction- practice makes perfect. It wasnt going to be a quick fix, despite all the preliminary work Saul had put into it.

For now however, his list told him that he needed to fix the door. The front door had rotted and was hanging from its hinges. They were double doors on top of that and should have lasted since the fall of humanity. But the snowstorm and the looting that had left the doors open for the wind and the rain to get deep within to warp the wood had done its job well. Today he was out scouting around for material for the doors, or if he was really lucky, he would find a complete set of double doors as a replacement. For now, he was poking around in Trenton, trying to see if there was anything worthwhile in the ruins of the town.

"Saul speaks." Saul thinks.

Temo was happier than he had been the past weeks. He had used his lupine form to cover the distance to Trenton quickly. He wanted to do some more exploring and looking for supplies and anything else that the pack or someone in the pack might have a use for. It was not often that he found something, but he liked looking and digging through the ruins. It was always exciting when he found some treasure that held some potential even if they might need repair.

When he arrived at the outskirts of town, Temo changed into his Optime form and repositioned his bag for carrying over the shoulder. He scouted around for a few minutes until he had found a likely building for a search. He forced open a door and went inside to the thick dust. He eyed the structure as he went making sure it was not to far gone and might collapse on him.

He had spend a couple of hours carefully looking in drawers and closets of several houses. He always finds items that would be of use, but generally they were to far gone with rot to be of any use. He had been having a good day and had found a small tool box full of tools. Luckily, it had somehow managed to stay out of the main rigors of the weather, and even though the tool box suffered, the tools inside were not as bad.

A scent of another in the area crossed his nose and he stepped out of the building he was in to see who it was. There was another wolf proceeding down the street towards him looking at the buildings as if looking for something. Temo did not recognize the other, but he was not surprised as he had not met everyone from the pack yet. "Hi" he called out and waved. Then proceeded into the street to meet the newcomer hoping they would be friendly.

yaaay thank you!

The agouti male had almost exhausted the buildings and houses in direct sight of the apartment building he'd come to claim as his home. There were a few good pieces of wood that he'd dragged back to lay in the lobby for further inspection, but more often than not the wood was in no better state than the door they already had. Though New Glasgow and the surronding areas were largely unpicked by the rest of the wolf population like Halifax and Barington, it was still difficult to find what you want. And with items dating way back beyound the two decades it had taken for wildlife to take control again, it was no surprise really that he wasnt finding perfect and pristine doors. He had found a few panes of unbroken glass that, when cut down to size, would fix the windows in Gideon and Nayru's apartment and the male had lain these carefully within the confines of the building. He hoped nobody would step anywhere near them, else there would be trouble. But he was back out now, the early morning light not quite bright enough for him to sheild his eyes, but it was promising to be a hot day. He was planning on going to see Hermes and Arete after noon to see how they were getting on, perhaps get some training in with the big horse.

So lost in his thoughts that the male didnt at first hear the tentative 'hi' called from another wolf. But movement ahead made Saul pause and look up. A pitch black wolf came emerging from a building, a rusting and mostly broken toolbox in hand. He could just about see that most of the tools inside had been protected and would probably work just fine. For a moment, the young male cursed himself for not finding it sooner. Though he'd collected tools back in Dahlia, they weren't a very good set, most were bent or rusting and in need of fixing or updating. Still, he could not befoul this mans good luck and he raised a hand in greeting before making his way over.

"Good morning. I'm Saul Stormbringer"

He offered, extending a hand to shake the other mans in a common greeting he had picked up not long ago. He wondered what the mans profession was, what he did within Ichika, since it seemed they all had specialised jobs, aside from Razekiel and Nayru.

"Saul speaks." Saul thinks.

ugh, failsause

Temo looked at the extended hand questioningly for a moment until he remembered that some had a custom of shaking hands as part of a greeting. He also remembered reading something about it being an old human form of greeting. Some dust came off the toolbox and the tools rattled as Temo shifted them to his left and gingerly took Saul's hand with his right. "I'm Temo Wolfe, good to meet you."

Temo's eyes then looked the other over and he noticed traces of dust and cobwebs on Saul's fur. He then realized that his own fur was in no better shape of cleanliness from his going through the various houses. Temo was glad to see that others were doing as he was and looking for useful items that can be salvaged. His dark eyes reflected the joy that he felt in that Saul was not angry to find Temo in the same neighborhood with the same desires to locate salvageable items. "I see you have been ransacking houses too." he said to the other as the tools shifted inside the rusted box causing more iron oxide dust to slowly drift to the ground. "Is there something specific you are looking for or need help with?"

Its a lovely post Temo, don't put yourself down <33

For a few short moments, the dark male looked at his extended hand with an odd expression. Saul almost dropped his hand, the awkward moment stretching between them. However, the moment of recognition came and the male shifted the rusted toolbox before extending his left hand to shake Saul's right. A quick handshake, then the male spoke. His name was Temo Wolfe, an interesting name considering their species. Saul gave a nod however, the smile deepening on his muzzle. He was a sucker for meeting new people and this was no different. "Its good to meet you too Temo" He chuckled softly before releasing the males hand. Noticing the dust and dirt coating him, he self consciously brushed at himself. Inside, he felt a familiar anxiety rise in his gut- the male was loathe to be dirty. He bathed every morning to avoid being dirty, and feeling the cobwebs on his coat now were bothering him. But there was nothing he could do, and there was a task at hand. Distracted by the males words, Saul gave a soft nod.

"Yeah... there's so much untouched stuff here, it makes sense to go and have a look around."

He said, glancing around at the building and houses surronding them. Cerne Rise was back the way Saul had come, the rotting door still in need of a replacement. The black male spoke again and Saul looked up with surprise. Perhaps the dark male could help him. Though Saul had built his own house, he wasnt too sure on how to replace the doors that were beyound repair. He nodded softly, before continuing. "My family and I have moved into the apartment building back up there and its needs a lot of work done to it. I've started fixing the bit of roof that caved in, but the front doors are rotted and destroyed- I can't repair them. I was looking for another set of double doors that would fit... Perhaps you've seen something like that?" He asked, thinking of the doors that were so warped and rotten there was nothing to be done with them. Maybe the male could help.

"Saul speaks." Saul thinks.

He watched Saul brush some dirt off of himself and then Temo brushed off a shoulder and made a mental note that it would be a good idea to find a creek and wash the dust and cobwebs from his fur as he watched the small dust cloud drift away from him in the breeze. "It is dirty work but on occasion it is worth it," he said with a slight chuckle.

Temo's dark eyes defocus a little as he stares at some of the houses around them, deep in thought. He thought about his travels in and through the houses and buildings. He tried to remember what he saw in the way of doors, especially with exterior doors as that seemed to be what is needed.

"Hmmm" came from his throat as Temo thought about it. His eyes returned to the present and the wolf in front of him. "I may have seen some, but I would need to know what size you need." He pondered for a couple of moments before he continued, "Even if we find doors that do not quite fit, I can resize them. It would be best to find doors that match in size or are larger, they would be the easiest to install. Will also need to check the condition of the hinges and locate screws that are not to far rusted."

An eyebrow quirks up as he remembers seeing some doors, "There might be some that will work. Do you know the size of your doors that need replacing? If not, we can go measure them, then go take a look." Temo's excitement level seemed to be rising because it felt good to be doing something other than just rummaging though buildings.

As Saul had brushed himself down, so did the dark male when he noticed the dirt and cobwebs on his own body. There was still a lot to do today, and Saul hoped to have fixed the door by the time night fell. He had a while yet and he was now eternally grateful that he'd found the male who now stood in front of him. Saul nodded softly at Temo's comment, agreeing whole heartedly with the male. It was well worth the effort and the risk to fix the roof and start on the door. His next big job, aside from putting the tiles back up on the roof, was the stairs. They were becoming inceasingly difficult to get up and that was no use. "I agree, the rewards can certainly outweigh the filth and mess of rummaging through buildings." He added, before they allowed that part of their conversation to die away.

The dark male, however, seemed to grow in confidence as a subject was brought up that he knew a lot about. Saul's cinnamon backed ears perked up to catch the males words as he began to talk about larger doors, measurements and hinges. A grin crept over his face- it was clear he had found someone who knew about construction and the kinds of things that Saul was lacking in. Saul thought about his own travels, trying to remember if he'd seen any screws or nails or anything that would be useful. Unfortunately he hadnt had the sense to measure the doors before he'd left. "We'll have to go back and measure the doors. Perhaps we should take down the doors that are up before we leave?" He said, thinking of the rotting and broken lumps of wood that were no good to anyone.

Saul turned to lead the way, making quick work of the broken streets of Trenton. The apartment building sat on the outside, closer to the shore. He approached, wondering who was in. Looking back to make sure Temo was following, he approached the doors. They were in a sorry state and for a moment, he looked at them with pity. They were obviously once grand pieces of wood, but they were shrivelled and worn down. Like two old men, standnig guard over the house that was doing just a bit better. "As you can see, the whole house needs a lot of work!" Saul chuckled, sure Temo could see into the lobby from their vantage point outside. With a sigh, Saul turned back, grasping hold of one of the doors and attempting to pull it off and away from the doorway, so they could measure it properly.

"Saul speaks." Saul thinks.

I hope it's ok that you help with the doors

Temo followed Saul through the town, his eyes scanning the houses and buildings as they passed. His mind cataloging possible buildings to search through. Now was not the time to go through them, there was bigger and better things to do now. Someone needed his help, needed his skills.

As they approached the apartment building, Temo focused his attention onto it. His eyes played over the parts of the roof and walls that were in his field of view. he noticed that there were repairs underway on the roof. As he looked over the building, even with it's problems, it seemed to be in pretty good shape.

When they arrived, Temo stopped and looked over the doors. Then glanced inside looking over the interior. "Yes, it needs work," he said to Saul and continued, "But one would be hard pressed to find a building such as this not to have some problems after so many years of weather and insects with no one to care for it."

Temo turned to Saul as he heard the hinges and wood groan at being pulled upon. "As rotten as those are, there is still enough good wood on them to keep them firmly attached to the building," he commented walking just inside the entrance and putting down the tool box he was carrying and the bag that was slung over his shoulder.
Temo noted the hinges when he entered the building and upon opening the toolbox, he selected the appropriate screwdriver and went to work on removing the screws that were holding the hinges to the wall. Between the two of them, they made short work of disassociating the doors from the building that they were attached too. With the doors off, Temo reached into his bag and pulled out one of his more prized possessions. A human artifact that he had found in a museum and was still in good shape. In his hand was one of his more favorite of human artifacts, a round flat metal object with tab on the edge and when Temo pulled the tab, a tape came out and it had marks all along it.

With his tape measure, and help from Saul, he measured the opening and the doors. After placing his tape measure back into the bag and slinging the bag over his shoulder, Temo turns to Saul, "Shall we go see if those doors will work?"

sorry dear! and yeah, its fine <33

Cinnamon backed ears flashed back as the black male spoke. They'd arrived at the house and Temo took it in with a practised look. The repairs to the roof could only just be seen from the front of the house, a few of the newer pieces of timber the only indication that something was going on back there. It seemed silly that Saul would need the males help for the door when he was perfectly capable of fixing a roof. But it was more than that- it was nice to meet others and let them help out. Saul nodded softly, thinking of the rotten staircase within. That needed the most work and was the next job on his list of things to do. "It was a lucky find, I think. I have a large family, with the promise of more to come, and there is enough space for us right now, and when there are more of us." He thought briefly of Nayru and Gideon, a smile dancing across his face. He was sure that soon enough, Gideon would have children of his own, by blood, and Saul would have blood-nieces and nephews running around. It wasnt like Melee and Range weren't family. They were as much his family as Gideon and Ascher were. But there was always the issue of blood between them. They were Conor's siblings, even if they didnt know it.

The strength in his arms was large, but the door was stronger than him. He tugged at the door, feeling the creak and groan but there was no success in moving the door an inch. Despite the severe rotting and warping that meant it was unuseable as a door, it was very well built. Temo interjected and Saul let go with a grin. He liked the male in front of him, he was a down to earth kind of wolf that Ichika needed. Perhaps he would call on him again when then stairs needed ripping out- there was no way to repair them. Still, he listened to Temo rummage around in the tool box he'd bought, extracting a screwdriver. From there, the two worked in relative ease, speaking only to direct each other. The screws came away easily and Saul collected them up. They were all in pretty good condition, testiment from his earlier tugging that had had no effect. Working with another wolf not his own family was nice and the two of them were quick on the second door.

Saul watched as the man bought out a tape measure- he'd read about them but had never seen one, and it was in good condition as well. Noting down the measurements on a stray bit of wood easier enough to carry with a pencil from the toolbox Temo had bought with him, the two of them were set. Temo spoke again and Saul nodded softly. "Lets go find some doors." And with that, the two of them set off back the way they'd come. It might take them all day to find suitable doors. At the first house they came to, the two stopped and measured up. No where near the right size or shape. And so it continued, the two of them checking most of the intact doors they came across, seeing what could be found.

"Saul speaks." Saul thinks.

sorry it's been so long. i'm not good at writing.

Temo wondered about what Saul meant by a large family. Where he came from a large family had meant the whole pack, which were small compared to some of the packs around here. From what he had heard from others, some of the packs in this area could contain several families that were larger than his whole birth pack. It was enough to make his mind reel from thinking about it.

House after house and building after building, they spent the better part of the day looking for doors. None seem to fit what they were looking for. Some were too big, others too small or otherwise to far damaged by the effects of nature on wood that has long lost the protections that the humans had preserved them with.

Temo stood and stared at a set of doors. The building they were currently attached too had an overhang thus they were reasonably protected from the rigors of what nature could throw. Measuring them had proven that they were a bit to large for the hole that was in need of new doors.

"A bit of work, they could work." he pondered out loud. He turned to Saul, "What do you think?" Temo asked. "They are heavy and stout and have a good number of years left in them." he continued looking back at the doors.

dont be silly, your writing it lovely! <33

The idle chit chat that had passed between the two males faded as they began to move through the houses around them. Often they would split and look on their own, calling out to the other if they thought they had found something good. More often, they stuck together, examining the doors in front of them. Both of them had a mental checklist that they were trying to tick off, and so far only a few doors previously found had ticked only one of two boxes. In any case, none of the doors they had looked at were suitable for their use. It was hard, trying to find something to fit an already existing doorway. If they didnt find something soon, Saul was seriously considering making the doors from scratch, perhaps with Temo's help. Although it didnt feel hopeless, per say, there was a monotony about it that felt like his brain was being sucked out. The male chuckled softly at the thought, earning him a questioning glance from the older male, which Saul shook his head to.

It wasn't too long later that the two arrived at a building that made them pause. There was an overhang to this building that had sheilded the door from wind, rain, snow and anything else Mother Nature decided to throw at it. Of course, it hadnt completely escaped the years of neglect and misuse. The doors were faded and pale in places where the weather had managed to get through. The hinges were rusted and broken. That wasnt too much of an issue, because the hinges on the old door had been in good condition. He walked forward with Temo, examining the doors. Cinnamon backed ears flashed forward as Temo began to speak and Saul nodded softly. The male turned to him and asked him his opinion, plus a good summary of the doors as a whole.

"I think that we may have found our doors. A little bit of work isnt going to take long, I shouldnt think. Shall we?"

He asked, moving forward to examine the hinges. They were so rusted that a tug on the door he was examining caused it to pitch forward a slight inch, indication that pulling on them was probably going to work this time. It looked like the wooden door frame was beginning to rot, a fate that the agouti male was pleased the doors themselves had escaped. He glanced at Temo once before pulling heavily on the door he had been examining. With a screech, it pulled free of the door frame and Saul managed to lay it gently on the floor before it fell there itself anyway.

"Saul speaks." Saul thinks.

Scowling with worry on the condition of the doors as he watched Saul easily pulled one free from the frame that it was attached to. Temo breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that the hinges had pulled from the frame, not the door showing that it was the frame that had rotted, probably from soaking water up from the floor when it was wet during storms. With a tug on the other door, Temo found that the jam on that side was suffering the same fate, but not all the way to the top hinge which required that he remove the screws which he did, being careful not to strip the slot that the screwdriver fit into.

Temo laid the door down next to it's mate and carefully took out the screws and removed the hinges. After bundling the hinges and screws up in a scrap piece of cloth, he put them in with his tools. "Might be able to clean those up for replacements" he said as he straightened up and stretched his back with a few pops from his spine. He looks at Saul, "Now comes the fun, hauling these not so light doors to your home," he said with a chuckle.

Saul glanced over to catch Temo looking worried by Saul's treatment of the door. However, as soon as the dark male saw that it was the frame that was rotten and the hinges rusted instead of the actual doors themselves, it put him at ease. Saul watched as he moved to deal with the second door, pulling the bottom half out but having just a slight moment of problem with the upper hinge, that seemed to be stronger than most. Saul waited patiently as the dark male swiftly removed the hinge, pocketing all of the metal they'd found. New metal was impossible to come by and whatever they had, had to be made from already existing metal that wasnt necessarily in the best condition. Not a whole lot of anyone's belongings were new, except for those items they'd made themselves. Saul nodded sofly as Temo explained about the metal he'd taken, an explanation Saul hadnt needed but no matter. Temo continued to speak and Saul chuckled softly.

"This is going to be a challenge" He conceeded, looking around themselves. He wasnt certain, but he estimated that they were fairly close to the valley and therefore the ranch. "Unless you bear with me for a moment while I fetch my horse? Hermes is stronger than we are. Perhaps you could find something amoung the houses to either put the doors on, or something for protection, since they'll be dragged along the ground?" He said, before taking off towards the Ranch. Arete was pleased to see him once more, but again it was Hermes he looked to. Slipping a headcollar on him, the male lead the horse back towards Temo at a slower pace. The draft horse was going to have to expend the energy of the day pulling the doors, so Saul didnt rush him.

He grinned at Temo, patting the horses neck as he snorted and shook his head free of the flies that had gathered around his eyes. Saul moved to remove the rope he'd thrown around his body in the stables, fashioning it into a harness around Hermes' body so that he would be pulling with his chest and not his back. Slipping it over the horse and tightening it where it needed to go, Saul looked back to see what Temo had done to protect the doors from the harm of the rough floor.

"Saul speaks." Saul thinks.

Temo looked up at Saul from the doors, "A horse, that is a good idea. I'll see what I can come up with." he replied as ideas started forming in his head, some of which included ways of balancing the doors on top of the horse. He dismissed those ideas due to the unwieldy nature of the doors and the extreme difficulty in balancing and strapping them to a horse.

He watched Saul disappear down the street and between the buildings. Temo stood there a moment and scanned the buildings deciding the best place to start. He decided on a large warehouse that looked promising for having something that could be used. A search through the building got him two long poles and hopefully enough good rope to do the job.

Remembering a technique he saw once being used with a horse, he had the poles tied in a cross and tied to the underside of the doors with the poles sticking out only a foot at one end and by several feet at the other. Temo was nailing several large nails through the rope and into the door edges to keep the rope from sliding off when Saul returned with his horse.

When he looked up and saw the draft horse, Temo frowned only expecting a smaller horse of which he has seen more numerously, "I hope I made it big enough," he said. He approched the horse and put his hand under the horses nose, letting him nuzzle his hand and take in his scent. Temo scratched the horse's neck so the horse would know that he was not going to harm him. Talking softly so as not to spook the horse, Temo said, "A beautiful horse. And large, he should have no problem with the doors."

The dark male was suitable impressed as Saul led Hermes back along the broken roads towards him. Saul could see two dark poles poking out the side of the stacked doors and understood that Temo had made a sort of cross shape that the doors were tied to. It was simple and effective, two traits he was fairly certain were what Temo was. While simple was perhaps not the right word, Saul substituted with straight forward. Temo was a straightforward man and Saul could see himself liking the dark male as a friend. He was a good worker as well and Saul was pleased Nayru and Razekiel had given him the task of Bensen. It suited him well, especially with improvisation as he had proved with the poles. A moment of worry came from him as he expressed his concern that he hadnt made it large enough.

"It looks good to me Temo. Nice and stable as well."

He said, hooking the ropes he already had with him around the horizontal poles. They would have to keep an eye on the half of the pole that faced vertically forward- it would be prone to catching on things and slowing their progress. As Saul watched, Temo made his way round to Hermes' head, stroking his muzzle and neck softly. He wondered if the male had a horse of his own, or whether he knew how to ride. He pushed the thoughts aside as Temo praised Hermes. Saul chuckled, coming round to pat the horse on the rump. He needed a good brush, but that would have to wait for a later date. "His name is Hermes. I found him in the Dampwoods by Anathema"

He offered idly, before catching hold of the horses reigns and pulling him foreward. After the initial tug of the doors against him, Hermes adjusted himself for pulling and began to slowly walk forward. It wasnt a great weight for him and the tracks that Temo had created did well to get the doors flowing over the ground as quickly as Hermes' walk would bring them. It took them perhaps half an hour to reach Cerne Rise once more, before Saul pulled him to a stop, clucking softly and stroking his head to tell the horse that he had done well. He allowed Hermes some freedom then, unhooking the makeshift harness and allowing him to wander closer to the park of lush grass as the men began to sort thhe doors out.

"Saul speaks." Saul thinks.

Temo watched as Hermes pulled the doors along keeping an eye on the doors, poles and ropes. He made sure the ropes stayed in place. Made sure that the end of the poles did not wear off to fast. made sure the doors did not shift so much that they would overbalance and tip over. Temo also noticed that Hermes did not seem to mind at all that there was something behind him dragging along.

The trip was quick and Temo figured that it would have taken longer if they had carried the doors themselves. After Saul disconnected the poles from Hermes' harness and set the contraption down, Temo got his claw hammer from his tools and set about pulling the nails out that were holding the ropes in place on the doors.

After saul and Temo got the doors off the poles and set near the hole that is in the wall waiting for the doors to be sized and hung. Temo looked at the poles and then up at Hermes who had wandered a short way off munching grass, "Maybe you could store the poles someplace safe from the weather, you never know when you might need Hermes to drag something again."

After a few moments pause coiling up the ropes that he had used to hold the doors to the poles, Temo went over and started in on the doors. "The first thing I want to do is dry fit the doors." he said to Saul as he began to set the doors in place, they did not fit, but he expected that and wanted to see them as close into place as possible before actually removing any material. He got his pencil and began marking the doors where he wanted to remove material to get them to fit.

Now that they were home and they had unhooked the doors from Hermes so he could roam around as he pleased, Saul could see that the end of the operation was coming closer. All they had to do now was fit them properly and then attach them and see what happened. He was glad he'd found Temo today, else he would have had no clue as to how to fit the doors properly. He didnt have the right tools to do as Temo had done, nor did he had the knowledge to know what would fit and if it didnt, how to shape it to ones desires. Temo hadnt known these things and this made him invaluable. And for spending the whole day with each other, Saul rather fancied the idea that he'd made a new friend. Pushing these thoughts aside as Temo began to sort out the poles and the ropes, Saul came forward to take the wooden beams when Temo offered them.

"I'll put them in the common room so that they're easy to get if we need them again."

He said, partially to himself as well. With quick motions he dragged the beams through the gaping door, past Gideon and Nayru's door, past Melee and Range's and into the wide open common room that was still in the process of being sorted through. Saul tucked them away quickly before returning to Temo, who had looped the rope quickly up and was moving towards one of the doors. Listening to the male speak, Saul rushed forward to help him lift it and measure it against the doors. They would need to shave off a few inches, which Temo began to mark out with a pencil. It seemed a lot easier than he imagined, but he also thought that if it was up to him on his own, it could have gone horribly wrong. The two repeated the process with the second door, marking out where they would need to cut away before laying the two doors side by side on the grass outside Cerne Rise. He looked at Temo, asking him silently what he should do.

"Saul speaks." Saul thinks.

Temo pondered the doors as they laid on the grass. Then, with his pencil and measuring tape, double checked the measurements and drew straight lines along the edges that needed cutting. "I need to raise the doors up off the ground to cut, so something like firewood rounds or lumber would work." He said to Saul and then went scouting around the house and retrieved several items and set on the ground near the doors. They put one of the doors up onto the items they found

A trip to his tool bag and Temo pulled out a handsaw from his small tool collection that he packs to job sites. A quick check of the teeth for sharpness, he proceeded to start hacking away at the door. He spent some time carefully sawing keeping tabs on the saw blade, making sure it was going straight on the line and as square to the door as possible.

He was hungry, but did not let it show. He may not have done much in the way of wood crafting and doing projects other than ransacking old human buildings since he left his birth pack. He was used to not eating for a day or two, sometimes longer. Besides, he knew he could find something on the way home anyways. Occasionally, he stopped sawing to check the sharpness of the saw. Plus it gave his arm a short rest and his eyes a rest from keeping an eye on the saw line. During one of these breaks, Temo noticed Saul standing and watching with a lost look of wondering what to do. "We've been hard at work all this time, maybe you could get us some water to wash the dust out of our parched throats?" he asked, thinking it would give Saul a task.

Temo had finished the sawing and got a small plane out of his bag. After checking the blade sharpness, he proceeded to shave off more of the door, smoothing out the saw marks where he had used the saw. He also used the plane on other parts of the door to remove only a small bit of material. Temo followed the treatment of the doors by rubbing the edges of the door with a piece of river worn sandstone smoothing the wood even more.

Cinnamon backed ears flashed forward as Temo spoke, asking if Saul could help him find something to raising the doors off the floor. The two of them left immediatly, searching Cerne Rise and the nearby houses for level, roughly the same sized pieces of wood and other detritus that would help them. It didnt take them long to find what they were looking for and they quickly raised both doors up so that they could be worked on. And then Temo got to work. Saul was content to sit back and watch as the male worked, knowing full well that if he tried to help him he would most likely get in the way and hinder the male. It was a useful passtime though- his sharp green eyes watched eagerly, drinking down the knowledge Temo was presenting him with. Saul wasnt a carpenter despite his growing knowledge of how to mend roofs, so it was good for him to observe someone who was obviously used to what he was doing. When he was asked to help, Saul would jump forward to lend a hand here or whatever was required of him, but for the most part he allowed Temo the freedom to move.

Of course, that meant for the most part Saul was stood there watching him work and one of of the small breaks Temo took to rest his arms, the dark male noted the slightly lost expression on Sauls face. With what appeared to be a knowing smile, he asked Saul to find something to drink. Saul thought briefly of going to the river, but Siku's most recent harvest of the grapes made him think of a fairly fresh bottle of wine that had been opened recently but not completely finished. Saul nodded softly before disappearing in the house. It took him a few moments to leap up the broken stairs and into his own quarters. He really was going to have to fix those stairs- they would soon become a death trap now that they were in regular use. Saul emerged with the opened bottle of wine cradled in his arms along with two tin cups that weren't the best for drinking wine from, but they would do.

"I dont know about water, but there's a bit of wine that needs finishing, lest it go off."

He chuckled before pouring them both one. It was weak wine, as was to be expected from grapes that had been moved a long way from where they'd started life. Still, it was good to quench their thirst. Saul looked up at Temo once he'd drained his glass, noting the stone he'd used to wear the wood smooth. It would be useful to know what it was, but his question stalled in his mouth. He didnt want to distract the male any more. Instead, he stood and inspected the doors. "Wow, they look great Temo. Do you think they'll fit now?" He asked, not wanting to offend the male in any way, but he was getting excited to see the new doors in place.

"Saul speaks." Saul thinks.

finally, i can write again. at least for the moment.

For someone that did not drink wine or other alcoholic beverages much, the wine was not to bad, but the important part was that it was wet and washed the dust down and wet a parched throat. Feeling the relief from a dry throat, Temo let the last of the wine trickle down his throat as he considered the next step. With a chuckle, he said, "I would be more surprised if they did fit on the first try. It will take one or two more fittings to get them right."

Now feeling refreshed from the wine, Temo and Saul maneuvered the doors into place and Temo placed bits of wood here and there under and around the doors until he was satisfied with their placement. With his pencil, he made some marks on the doors where more material needed removing and where to place the hinges.

They took the doors down and Temo made quick work with some sanding in spots to even out the doors. "We lucked out, the places where the hinges go on the jamb match the spots on the doors" he told Saul as he worked. With a final swipe from his sanding stone, Temo put it away and got the hinges that they had saved. After selecting the best looking ones with the least amount of rust, he cleaned them up with a rag and another sanding stone.

A few quick checks to make sure the hinges would fit the slots that will receive them, Temo screwed them to the doors with the screws that they had salvaged and that he had brought with him. Again they put the doors into place but open and with a small chunk of wood for them to set on and Saul to hold them up, Temo screwed the hinges into the jams. With some final work on fitting the doors and the latches and the install of a doorknob. With some fanfare, Temo proclaims "There. Doors." only just realizing that the sun had already set and it was getting dark.
