Not very long sorry!

Wandering through the hills once again he dark Knight began to think of the first time he had a serious conversation with Savina. At the time he had been a young teenager, about the age of his three pups now, and he had just started shifting. He had come back from Halifax with some new shorts and camouflage backpack wanting to show them off to someone. He had been lucky enough to subtle upon a younger Savina bathing in the water to cool off. Back then life had been such an adventure for him, as he was sure it was for Tony, Lorenzo and Fia. Now it seemed like a dull continuous walk.

The heat was starting to get to the large black male just as he saw a small pond. Liking his dry lips he could feel the dry, bitter taste in his mouth. It had been a long day for him in the sun, starting with boarder patrols early in the morning and ending with a stroll in before sunset in the hills. Making his way slowly t the pound he lowered his massive head and began to lap up the refreshing water. It was difficult to be a black wolf on days such as today. Jazper had even debated hiding underground today but he had been doing too much of that this summer. Lifting his head he glanced around, checking the surroundings before taking another gulp of water. He had no need to feel nervous, given his size and experience, but something about being out in the unclaimed forest that brought out his instincts a little more.

The boy was away from home, with no interest in going back. There were too many others there who wanted to coddle him and force him into being something he didn't want to be. His father was always going on about his grandmother Deuce and how she was a great healer and leader, and how she would want him to learn all the tree hugging crap she'd taught Tal. Liam always rolled his eyes and half listened. He remembered the herbs to help heal wounds. When he was a warrior, he would use that knowledge. He had no interest in being a misguided dreamer like the others in the pack. Lunatic artists, the whole lot of them.

He paused when he heard a noise ahead, his hackles raising. A giant of a black wolf was drinking from the pond he'd planned on bathing in when he'd seen it. Black wolves were evil. Pure evil. He hunched up his shoulders, trying to make himself feel bigger and stronger, then began backing away. He knew, though he was larger than average, he was still scrawny. He couldn't hold his own in a fight yet. Yet being the operative word there.

He had been thinking a lot lately about Crimson Dreams. He loved the pack dearly but he felt a need for adventure. To anyone else they would call this a mid life crisis but to Jazper it was just time to spice things up. With the pups growing up he had been debating traveling with Ghita around Canada, meeting new people. He wasn’t sure how his love would take his plans but she had always been a wild and free spirited lady. He was sure that she would come along happily. He hoped his boys would stay in Crimson Dreams for a long time as it was a peaceful place. They were really quite lucky to live in a pack that valued friendly connections with all packs.

Lapping up the water he felt relived of the heat. The forest was a safe refuge from the harsh gaze of the sun. His peace and quiet was interrupted as a rustle near by caused his head to lift. His Maw led his head around as he stared in the direction of the noise, catching the young male hunched and backing away. “Hi there.” He greeted with a smile. The boy couldn’t be very old, probably around his youngest age.

Attempting to look as friendly as possibly the large male lowered his tail under his rear and brought his body down to park on the cool grass. “You look like you must be about the same age as my children. Perhaps you’ve seen them around?” It was difficult for him to keep track of the kids now that they were of shifting age. “Tony?...Lorenzo?...Fia?” He listed their names slowly, hoping for a nod from the boy at one of their names. It was difficult to be his age, adventuring around and meeting new people. Clearly the younger male was uncomfortable around him and he was determined to help relax the boy.

((Short posts agreed on in PM. ILU Melissa.))

The giant wolf spoke. Liam vaguely remembered seeing him before, when Uncle Noah had been hurt. His ears flattened as the wolf listed off names. The butterflies spoke in warning, and Liam chose to listen. He'd play mute. He'd listen to this giant that had called Tal his brother. But he wouldn't speak. When the giant spoke Fia's name, Liam slowly nodded. This monster wolf had fathered Fia? Pity...she was such a nice girl, too.

It seemed as though he wouldn’t be able to get through to the young male that he meant no harm. The boy seemed scared stiff and unwilling to make the slightest noise or motion, except for the nod confirming that he indeed had met one of the Knights teenagers. It wasn’t unusual that the friendly giant might intimidate a young male. After all, Jazper in his Halfling form was a sight to behold: broad across the chest, muscular in the legs and very, very large for a wolf. It also might have been the sight of the large scars reaching all the way across the broad chest and curving under his belly. Whatever it was that had put off this new stranger Jazper felt a need to correct it.

“Which of my kids did you meet?” His voice was gentle, the kind of voice only a parent would have acquired. Not expecting a solid answer he also included his name, “I’m Jazper.” Perhaps the boy would find the words to give his own name so that the warrior could identify him. He could smell the predominant scent of a pack, which he had never taken the time to get to know as of yet, from his position on the grassy floor but the stranger was still too far away to catch any other smells.

Liam took a step back, shaking his head. He wasn't going to answer this male. The idea of giving Jazper his name terrified him for some reason. His ears swiveled back, his golden stare showing he was trying to be brave, but was deeply anxious. His back paws were feeling out the ground behind him, making sure that a sudden drop off hadn't appeared behind him. He definitely just wanted to make an escape. His lips curled back from his teeth in a frightened snarl, though he still made no noise. It didn't take too much effort for the smaller male to pull back into the underbrush, making a steady beeline toward home. He would curl up under the porch he liked to sleep under and hide for a week. Maybe he'd come back out to find Ayasha and tease her some more. In a strange way he liked Ayasha. He looked forward to seeing her again.

He glanced behind, hoping the giant wasn't following him. When he was bigger he would destroy the shadow wolves. Even this giant one, Jazper. He would need all his strength and cunning, though. Destroying Jazper would be his greatest achievement when he was bigger.
