ooc;; 3rd-4th August . Dampwoods . Optime Form
Saul, Jace, Alexander, Noah, Pripyat & Eclipse. They would have left (on foot) on the 3rd August, camped in the dampwoods that evening and then this thread sets place on the morning of the 4th August. It will be easier, since there are seven horses to catch, if they rounded the horses up like sheepdog and drove them back to a thicket, where they will be caught with ropes. Saul will explain!

Their plans were set, their intentions obvious. Although there were a few horses in Ichika, it was clear they were going to need more. Plus the fact that personally, Ichikans wanted steads, including the agouti male who had first called the party together. He already knew Eclipse was interested in catching a horse- she had told him so when she'd accompanied him to tending Hermes and Arete not long ago. Jace had expressed a wish to have a horse of her own when they'd met at the Broken Arrow Ranch. Alexander had similarly expressed a wish when the agouti male had met him out by the Pictou Landing. He'd met Noah on his travels back to his house and mentioned that they were getting a party together to capture some horses- the silvery tripod had been more than happy to come along. It seemed word had gotten out and the silvery grey male he knew to be Pripyat had sought him out to ask him if he would be able to come along. And so the mismatched group had been assembled. Saul had told them that it was a long trip over the mountains on foot, since he was the only one with a horse currently it would not be fair for him to bring the stallion. So they had gathered in Trenton on the morning of the 3rd, provisions packed and travelling gear on.

The journey up and over the Halcyon Mountains, that Saul was getting used to, was an uneventful and quiet one. Though there was pleasent conversation between all of them, there was a certain anticipation of the party that often bred silences between them. Saul had laid out the plan for the first section of their journey- get down into the dampwoods and locate a herd in there. They would camp a while away until morning, when they would locate the herd again and set about selecting those they wanted, before separating them from the herd and driving them back towards a dense thicket. It was a simple strategy that the male was sure would work. The sun had set as the party had entered the forest, once against close to Anatheman territory. It had taken them a little while to find the herd of feral horses in the forest in the dark, but once they'd managed to locate them, the Ichikans had backed off to a reasonable position and begun to set up camp. Saul had stayed close to Eclipse, although he was beginning to like the Soul male Pripyat. In a convoluted, twisted way, he was related to Eclipse and by extension, Saul himself. Still, he didnt feel the need to mention it to the boy who was just a little bit younger than himself. They had slept fitfully that night, waking just before dawn to break camp and find a suitable thicket to encase the horses. They had all bought rope with them, which they would use to tie the horses with once they were caught.

Morning dawned bright and early as the troop moved through the trees. They were a few hundred metres off when Saul paused them. He could just see the grazing animals if he looked over the hedge they had stopped behind. Strategic mind had already picked out a chestnut mare who looked to be roughly the same breed as Hermes. They were obviously mixed breeds, but they would do well enough. "Okay, pick out your targets. I've chosen the chestnut mare with the flaxen mane and the white socks. Once you've all chosen your targets, we'll move round to the back of the group, so there's no chance of them scattering past us and away. Separate your horse from the rest and drive it back towards the thicket. Those who get there horses back first, set about catching them with the ropes we left there. Those who get back last, focus on keeping the horses within the thicket, and then rope your horse. Everyone clear?" Saul waited until he had confirmation from everyone before he fell silent. They needed to pick out their targets. Once everyone had spoken, Saul gave a nod. Shifting down into his lupus form, he crept from the hedge, moving swiftly around the back of the huge herd that had congregated here. Now was the time to strike.

Eclipse was excited for this trip. She would have a horse, just like everyone else! This made the little girl happy, and quite excited. She followed the small group of pack members quietly, listening to what conversation might be had but not butting in, mostly keeping to herself. Of all who came, Saul was the only one she knew and right now she wasn’t sure how well she would get to know the others before the trip was over. She wanted to converse, but for some reason she couldn’t bring herself to it. She decided just to keep quiet and listen. She would get to know them by any conversations they had and soon if she thought they could talk about something, she would become friendly with one. It took surprising sqiftness to get to their destination, and Saul filled them in on what they were to do. She looked and saw a beautiful dun colored mare she pointed silently, hoping she could get it, she was still quite young herself, and she was very inexperienced in actually catching anything much bigger than a hare or fowl. She could not do much in her own lupus form, so she changed into her Secui form, which was fairly bigger. She followed Saul on cue, and waited for his next command.

Morning came and the small group was out with their mission, to each come home with a horse, what they would do and use the beast for, that wasn’t the question. The brown and cream leader of the group pointed out the beast that he wanted and had everything set up how they would get to where they need and in what spots. Saul gave the commands, and Noah was fine with the horse that he was picking out, he had his eyes on another one. She was a beauty.

Noah gave a nod as he looked at her; she was taller than most of them, but nowhere nears the tallest. Her coat was so dark it looked like dark rich dirt. Her mane was a creamy white, shaggy and looked like it had many of knots in the mane. Noah knew that he would have his work cut out for him when it came to cleaning her up. ”Her.” the silver male pointed toward her. ”Dark one” He added hoping to get more details in so that no one would claim her before someone else did, the male would fold to and look for another one if someone wanted her to. There was that part of him that worried that someone would claim her.

The scared tripod beast followed the suit that Saul had done, waiting on every one to pick out the beast that they wanted; no one had claimed her, the dark chestnut mare. The silver male stayed near the earthen hued male, but gave enough room for his own limp body to take off into his funky style run when the male gave the word to go after the heard of horses.

She kept her silence amongst this group of people who were mostly unfamiliar to her, only one was known in detail, the second was recognised in passing as her former Alpha's son and a third known even more fleetingly. The grey lady did not invite conversation with her body posture and as such the rest of the group left her to herself. Mismatched eyes took in her surroundings, the herd in front of them. Jace did not have to look hard to find the one he wanted, for he stood out magnificently among the darker colored ones. Pure white was not often a color seen in horses without some kind of marring of it. But snowy colored he was with fierce dark brown eyes that scanned his environment with a fervor that suggested he might even be the lead stallion.

Her ashen paw raised and she pointed him out to the others, speaking the first she had the whole trip,

"He is mine, the white stallion." Thrill of the hunt consumed her, and heart muscle pounded in her chest, filling her ears with its booming. She followed the others before her, Noah walking in front of her, the female stayed in her optime form, it would offer her the most advantages. Breath hissed out from between her teeth and she mentally reviewed the words of low speech that her mother had taught her so many years ago. She moved into position behind the herd, body slinking and melting between the shadows, it had taken a lot of practice before shye had managed to disappear into the snow like the rest of her pack could with thier all white fur, now the same techniques helped her here, although instead she was hiding her whites and light greys instead of her black and browns.

She stretched and readied herself, and when the order was given burst from her cover with a great speed that did not match her small size.

The animal that he watched was young and spry, grey body with small white splotches running down its back and dripping down its legs. That the horse Pripyat had his eyes on resembled himself, he never realized. Yet the young stallion seemed to call out to him, and while all the others pointed and claimed their animals, no one pointed to the prancing creature Pripyat watched intensely. When all the others had spoken he looked to Saul, who seemed to be the leader of this expedition, and pointed to his horse. “That one.” And that was enough. He moved along side of the group, whom he had camped with the night before, and set himself into place, as quietly as he could.

Ocean eyes watched the others just then, aloof Jace whom he knew by face and name but not much more, Noah whom he felt closest to (almost a second father), and Saul and Eclipse, to whom he was distantly and strangely related to although he was not clear on specific details. That family had come from Dahlia de Mai was a comfort, he knew Melee best, but he had yet to really learn anything about the distant cousins he now lived beside. The night before he had spoken some to Saul and realized he quite liked the chap, who soon would give the signal for them to spring forth.

In his secui form he felt most comfortable just then, it was his quickest form and horses were quick creatures. Should the need for optime arise, he was already half shifted and so the logic made perfect sense to the young boy. In anticipation he waited, muscles tense, and Pripyat felt much like a loaded spring just then—full of energy and not exactly sure in how to use it.

Conversation hadnt been all that great between the group as they'd made their way down from Ichika. It was a shame, for they proclaimed to be a pack of peace and love- their own members couldnt get on well enough for a night out in the open. Well, that being said there was no fighting or arguing or anything of the sort, there was just no conversation either. One of the group he had taken a liking to was Pripyat. The boy was practical and strong minded, but more than that, he was easy to get along with. He had spent a lot of the trip talking to the grey man, accumilating snippets of the males life before he had moved to Ichika. He wasnt sure how close in age the grey man was, nor was he sure who he was closer to in age amoung the younger members of Ichika. Still, he felt rude outright asking for the males age when it was clear he was already an adult. The male had left it at that, not sure what to make of the others who were less inclined to speak. He was here to catch another horse, as were the rest of them. It was fine by him if they didnt want to talk.

He listened and observed as, one by one, those around him began to chose a horse. Eclipse went for a non-descript dun mare while Noah went for a beautiful black mare with a white mane and tail. Jace pointed out the purest white stallion she could while Pripyat chose a dappled grey stallion that looked similar to the boy himself. He missed what Alex said, but nodded anyway. It was time to move. Those around him chose their forms and Saul slipped from the bush, moving stealthily round to the back of the horses where he paused to gather the troops. With a glance towards everyone, they surged forwards at the same time, bursting from the bush and out into the grazing herd. For a fraction of a second, the horses remained calm and peaceful, before the scent and sight of the wolves kicked in. With what appeared to be a collective shriek of alarm, the horses began to panic.

Green eyes were impassive, the eyes of a hunter, as he split from the rest of the group. There was no need to stay in the safety of numbers, they werent killing they were simply rounding the horses up. His own mare, larger than he'd first thought, was near the front of the group. At her side was a dappled grey colt, no more than a year old. He wondered for a brief moment what the colt had to do with his mare- they looked nothing alike and it was clear from their bone structure that they werent the same breed. He pushed the thoughts aside as he dove into the panicking horses, making a beeline for the chestnut mare with her flaxen mane and tail. He didnt pay any attention to those around him, focusing solely on his own horse. He reached her side, snapping at her legs to make her turn away from the rest of the herd. He would separate her from the herd and drive her back the way the wolves had come, towards the dense thicket they'd chosen as a corrale.

Saul’s signal came, and she was off like a flash, her larger secui form rushing through the herd of horses. She was no herding dog and it was much more difficult as the horses started running in a panic. It was hard to find the dun mare in the group but her eyes had not failed her as she lost sight and regained it of the mare. She rushed forward and snapped at her hocks, pushing her away from the crowd of horses into the corral, where the rope waited. It was work like she had never experienced, especially trying not to get trampled by the hooves of the panic stricken stampede. She was still young and clumbsy and anything could go round at this point in time, but it didn’t. She got her horse out of the thick of things in no time and rushed her forward to the corral. Where she hurried to change, though it took longer, especially when trying to keep a wild, scared horse in check. The girl was quick to grabbing a rope and trying to get it on the mare’s neck, but she was being difficult and kept rearing, the girl was still inexperienced, and was scared of the hooves that lashed out at her, but she kept on until finally she was able to get the rope around the horse’ neck. The mare was anything but tame, and was going to fight it seemed. Eclipse liked that, spirit in such a wonderful looking horse. By the time Eclipse got the mare calmed down she was panting with exhaustion and heat. She was ready for a break, but she knew there was more to do and other’s to help. She would at least be able to do that. She tied the rope to a branch, knowing the horse would be safe as long as she didn’t try anything stupid. The horse, was just staring at the chaos around her though, eyes wide and ears flat and her head held high ready to break free, though it was as if she was waiting for a signal.

Sorry for the wait. wc:3+

Everyone had stated the horse that they wanted, and none of them claimed the dark mare that he wanted. They all were lined up and ready to go, each wolf seemed to have its eyes glued upon the stead that they wanted. Noah snorted a power was rushing though him, a feeling that he had never felt before. The silver male was by nature very submissive and would never hurt anyone, unless they had hurt him first, unless it was the case that they where family. So for him to go after this mare, like the other, yipping and snapping at its feet felt like such a taboo. The silver male watched the other two go off, going after the horses that they had picked out. So after the soft colored wolf that followed Saul rushed out, Noah set off after the animal that he had pointed out. The male rushed after her, he drove in close to her but his mouth never parted to nip at the mare, the male knew that right off the bat him nipping at her to spoke her would only bring fear and hate for the tripod into her heart for him.
The male had a plan to run her out and then corner her and then to rope her down, and he had hoped that for once he could do this alone, he had to, he wanted to. The male would dive in near her and would bark madly at the golden manned mare, and then he would dive his head in near her legs, he watched her head as her ears folded back against her head, nipping at her, the male would swing away from her while keeping a strong eye contact with her. She would be his, he would be riding her and training her in the ways to be a working hors e for his uses while being able to ride the she horse if and when he needed, or wanted.

He didnt need to look at the rest of the group to know that everything was going okay. The fact that he couldnt see them was enough to tell him that they were either still submerged in the panicking horses, or already driving their quarry back towards the natural corral they'd found. Sauls own eyes were on the chestnut mare he'd picked out. Smaller than Hermes, but not by much, she was still large. He could see the whites of her eyes as she glanced back towards him, giving a squeal of terror and throwing herself forward. He cut off her means of escaped, driving her left and back the way they'd come. The dappled grey colt stayed by her side the whole time, panic in its eyes and the way it held its head. Still, there was nothing he could do about that and the idea of a gift for his brother came into his mind. Thoughts now pushed aside, he gave a bark of frustration which sent both of them skittering forward and away from the main group of horses.

Now separated from the group, the chestnut mare had no choice but to charge onwards. Feathered hooves plunged into the undergrowth as Saul drove them both back towards the corral. It wasnt too far away now and he could see the entrance. He closed in, nipping softly at her hooves to let her know that he was still there. It took him perhaps another few moments to reach the entrance of the meadow and he stopped, allowing the horses to plunge forward and into the meadow. Blocking the exit for just a moment he shifted up into his optime form as the mare lapped around the meadow, trying to find a way out. Conscious of others perhaps wanting to come in, he moved out of the way and grabbed a rope. The first throw was unsuccessful, but he gathered his wits again and threw the rope over her head. With a squeal it pulled tight, stopping her in her tracks. With a grunt Saul held on as she bucked and lunged forward, trying her best to get away from the rope.

It wasnt working and another fifteen minutes later, the mare stopped, exhausted. The foal by her side whinnied softly and she snorted in return before Saul approached. The evil look in her eye told him not to come close, but he managed to pull her towards a thick branch, tieing her swiftly down so that she couldnt escape. The little foal was easy to catch and he roped up to the tree as well. His own mission complete, he looked around to see Eclipse there, her dun mare already tied to the trees. Saul laughed softly, brushing his hair away from his hot face and patting the rump of the mare he'd caught. She gave a squeal and lashed out at him, to which he dodged the backward kick from her. She was going to be a firey spirit, there was no doubt about that. Green eyes turned to the entrance, trying to see if anyone else had come back yet.

She took no notice of any of the others, zeroing in on her target who tiptoeing around his herd suspiciously, he already knew something was wrong and she smiled, glad at her choice. The herd bolted as one as the pack of wolves surged out from hiding, power swept through her as her hind legs propelled her forwards with incredible speed. One could be forgiven for assuming that Jace was an avid trainer, that she ran for miles and miles every day to keep her fitness up and while she did train some it was not to that extreme, instead what was showing was the mixed genes of her dual heritage, the speed of a sled dog and stamina of a wolf honed into something far more deadly by the harshness of the arctic and its ruthless demands of its inhabitants.

Her eyes were alight with amber and blue fire that burned fiercely, this was the other side of her that usually only came out when she or her family threatened, the Mother backing down and making way for the Warrior. Any horse on its own would be likely to outrun a wolf but when they were corralled together in the herd they were slowed down by the sheer bulk in motion, safer for those who could not run as fast as the leaders. She caught up to her quarry, growling and barking at him, trying to come in between him and the herd that he ran with. The white stallion lashed out with sharp hooves, a kick that could easily paralyze or kill. She dodged and instead turned her attention to the nearby females, throwing a lot of noise at them and getting them to shy away, effectively putting her between them and their leader.

Then she did something that, depending on your viewpoint was extremely brave or stupidly dumb, she placed herself in his way, gambling with the odds of him simply charging straight over her and trampling her into the ground. Luck was on her side however and instead of crushing her beneath his sharp feet he stopped dead and reared up, fury evident in his face at being stopped by such a ruse. But it was in the nature of prey to fear and of the hunter to be dangerously bold so when she lunged forwards and mocked snapping at his flank, he turned tail and ran from her back towards the corral. She followed closely and hurried him when he appeared to be slowing, only when he was trapped with no exit did he turn to face her.

A furious scream came from his throat as he reared back again, eyes flashing wildly. Jace held her rope ready in her hands and as he crashed towards her, intent on killing this small thing that hunted him, threw the lasso towards his neck. It missed and the flicker of movement sent him clattering back away from her, she reeled it in and held it ready again as they both eyes each other, the stillness unnerving. Steam floated up from his flanks that were covered with white froth and muscles that shivered. Brown locked onto mismatched blue and amber, and with a snort he charged forwards again, and again she tried to capture him with the rope.

OOC:Erf I help the Jace RAWR If you don't want her help let me know! Is short too Sad

Eclipse saw the butt end of everyone else's catch, she smiled triumphantly, but noticed that Jace was having slight trouble with the stallion she'd picked. Taking up an extra rope she was beside the woman in a second. She would only try to catch him if it was apparent he was going to get away but she was there to keep him in that spot. Her hand moved the rope around distracting the horse, hoping Jace would get the upper hand on it and catch him. She was well aware of his hooves and kept her distance, but wouldn't know how the horse would react, so was ready for anything.

He was off after his target, well developed muscles propelling him forward. Pripyat was fast, but the four legged stallion faster. Before Pripyat had moved to circle in on his horse, the creature had realized something was amiss. His hoofs thundered beneath him and with each stride the horse and the boy made, the wolf fell further behind. With a huff the boy forced a burst of speed and caught up to the fleeing animal, but the smart creature heard the noise and as the predator neared he reared up and back, flailing legs and hard hoofs at the Secui.

Pripyat quickly backed up and as he did so lost his footing. Soon he found himself on the ground and the horse moving farther and farther away from him. All was lost. It was then that Pripyat was glad of it. Who were they to capture creatures against their will? What gave them the right over any other living thing's life? Very suddenly Pripyat felt sorry for the other horses, and it was then that the speckled grey stallion stopped, turned to look upon his captured companions and let out a concerned nicker.

small pp of eclipse Big Grin

She gave the little girl a quick short grin as she appeared by her side. The white stallion snorted and shook his head angrily, now there were two sharp toothed killers to escape from! He bared his teeth with ears flicked back and pawed at the ground, his hooves sending sparks flying when they collided with stones. With no warning at all, not even a bunching of muscles in preparation and then he was hurtling towards them at breakneck speed. But Jace moved just as quick, as the smaller one and therefore easiest to defeat the stallion launched himself at the young girl child. Jace shunted Eclipse out of the way with her entire body's worth of weight.

The rope flicked out of her hand guided by something greater than herself, she struck her target, the noose slipping over his neck and tightening. The femme kicked off from the ground in a leap that was part strength and part faith.. well mostly faith. But her aim fell true and she landed upon the beast's back, with a quick but elegant flick of her wrists she doubled the rope over and managed to tie it around his head a second time creating very primitive reigns. The stallion went berserk now, screaming with fury and raising himself high above the ground, kicking up his rear and attempting to buck her off.

Jace held tight onto the rope and squeezed hard with her legs, determined that he could not win this battle or the overall war between them. Whenever he tried to go one way she pulled on the rope and jerked him around, all the time though she was whispering into his ear in low speech, she could tell he listened by the way it twitched,

'I am friend, I am horse friend.'
