Fire eyes watched the sun as it came up over the horizon of the east. It'd been early when she'd risen from the depths of her spiral-shaped home to trek across the Thistle Kingdom, passing through the Borgatas to rest against the banks of the Pictou River. Her mind had been enlightened by the drugs she hoarded away, her early morning sacrifice having been short and simple. She no longer found it necessary to pray for Eris' health, or for the health of her non-sister's children — Larkspur had ruined that endeavor for the Auxiliary, in his desire to clear the air of the fact that Eris was not a coyote. Tlantli knew he was right. Eris had given up her chance to be a coyote when she left Eterne, though the circumstances were still unknown to the Crone. She had further snubbed it out by choosing a wolf, stupid as he might have been. She was disappointed in the dark hybrid woman she had met in the foothills of Anathema. She was disappointed in many things.

As the effects of the mescaline wore down in her system, the world became darker and more frustrating again. She was locked in a place filled with creatures she found distasteful — why had she listened to Sirius? This was not the family she had originally wanted. This was not her true family. This was not were she wanted to be, not anymore. But Sirius still remained and her uncomfortable attraction to the dark, hybrid man kept her rooted to the ground amongst the thistles. It didn't matter that their interactions were platonic. It didn't matter that she wanted nothing more than simple sex from him. Something about the Revlis man made her stay within his world, regardless of the difficulties assimilating she was having.

A sigh escaped her as she gazed into the water, the river flowing quietly into the ocean around them. Her body crouched, fingers dipping into the cool liquid while her mind wandered back to the past. Back to before, before Barbados and before leaving Eterne. Life with her real family, before Baphomet had sinned against them. Even with Xochime gone, it had been wonderful. She had enjoyed it. But there was so little to enjoy as the days drew on in Salsola.

Magnolia had found the Pictou River the only source of comfort in this forboding place. The young woman enjoyed staying by the river alone and watching the summer fish swim through it. Somehow the water stabilized and centered her. No one bothered her here and that was the way she liked it. Magnolia didn’t have a home yet and she wasn’t sure if she’d ever settle down here. But Larkspur had said she was here for life, so she might as well make herself comfortable. Maybe one day, when Magnolia was feeling a little more adventurous, she would make a den by the water. The river was comforting and it provided safety for her prized jewelry. Despite her new habit of wearing several long chains down her neck she still had an overwhelming amount of metal to look after. She walked with a jingle now, and the wolf liked it. She had no need for hunting now that she was in Salsola, at least for the most part, so noise wasn’t an issue anymore. For the most part, she was safe and well-fed and looked after here. Maggie noticed she had gained weight since pledging to Larkspur and his crew.

Her reverie was ruined by a blonde figure ahead of her on the same side of the river, about a hundred meters or so away from her. The optime woman rubbed her Mohawk in nervousness as she did ever so frequently these days as she decided whether or not to make her presence known. Was it Itachi? No, the figure was female, and the hair was different. Magnolia squinted to see who it was before she realized it was the crazy coyote from the dinner. Her heart plummeted as she hurried to think of what to do.

Maybe leaving was the best option. The stranger was a well-regarded member of Salsola and if she wanted to be here, then she had every right to. Maggie grabbed her leather satchel from the ground next to where she was sitting and got up on her feet. Maybe she could just sneak away from the woman without being seen. But Maggie was wearing all these clunky pieces of jewelry, what was she thinking? Jade eyes squeezed shut, and for a moment, the woman did nothing before promptly sitting back down. She was a member here too, and she prayed she had some basic rights that wouldn’t let her get hurt. But who knew.

And what would happen were she to flee the home she'd helped to build? She knew the rules. It was wrong, it was death, to leave behind Salsola. It was dangerous to even think, but she wondered what the world was like back home. Did her family miss them? Did Metetztli miss them? What had happened to Baphomet, the vile plague on the Kimaris name? The family had been in shambles, and she had so wanted to build them up once more, but she was finding it difficult. The culture she needed wasn't there. She was surrounded by wolves. Wolves that, save a select few, were not worth the effort she put in to assimilating. Her blood was there, but was her heart? No, it had remained elsewhere. Elsewhere? Eterne, Barbados, somewhere warmer and somewhere filled with canines unrelated to wolven genes.

Her thoughts were disrupted by the jingle of jewelry, the air twisting with the scent of another. Her body twisted, lips raising in a wary snarl — there was no need to be cautious, but she found herself on edge frequently since offering her services as Segna to Larkspur D'Angelo. It was a child, however, who came into view. The silver girl she'd seen at the feast, one she did not know the name of, but one who had not yet claimed rank as a true member of the family. Ugly thing. Still, it was best to know them all, and so Tlantli allowed her anger to subside. "You. Come here." It was not a request.

Shit Maggie thought angrily, growling to herself for letting the blonde woman see her. This could either go really well or really poorly. As a docile Associate she did what she was told. Silver legs rose once again, and she picked up the satchel and threw it around her right shoulder. It clanked and made all too much noise as she plodded over to the female that called out to her. Magnolia was nervous, for sure, but tried to keep her emotions in check. She could only wonder what the woman would do to her if she knew she was scared as hell.

“Hello,” the mohawked woman said quietly, as she fidgeted with her awkward hair awkwardly, jade eyes downcast. Magnolia was often prone to forgetting that respect was a huge issue here, unlike the kingdom she used to call home that was a little more egalitarian. She was about to speak again, but figured it would be more polite for the blonde stranger to speak first. The teenager was not excited to see this interaction happen. For some reason, Magnolia was worried for her health and safety.

So much for the shelter and serenity of the river.

As she expected — though she wouldn't have minded a chance to utilize her rank over the girl — the silver child came forward at her prompting. Tlantli allowed her gaze to return to the world on the other side of the Pictou, arms crossing below her breasts as she waited for the Associate to find her way near. Hello was all that was said, causing the woman to raise on eyebrow and glance sideways at her. Most creatures were more talkative, but she could appreciate the silence that had been seen in others, such as the uncomfortably handsome Larkspur. She gave no response, merely turning her face back to the east.

"What ess your nayme." She had no desire to know everyone who passed through the borders, but there was no reason not to get to know the young woman while she was still there. Her mind prepared to remember information and the sour expression that had once covered her features evaporated into apathy. It was just another wolf, another one of the fools she was surrounded by because she was incapable of leaving the Boss, but it was another wolf that she held power over. The faintest smile graced her lips. "How ahre you lieking Salsola? Ess it to your taystes?" The frail had no place, and she wondered how strong this girl could be emotionally.

Kiki please don’t hate me I’m so sorry for the wait it won’t happen again bb <333

Words:

The tan woman was foreign and a creature unlike any she had met before. Magnolia was instantly very curious about the woman because this was the first time she had heard her speak. Most of the voices at the family dinner were drowned out and Maggie didn’t make a point to listen to anyone but Eris and Larkspur there anyway. She messed with the fur around her hips for a moment, jade eyes still unwilling to meet blood red. Even from a peripheral look, Maggie knew an immense danger lived in those eyes. She was wary, despite her initial curiosity.

“I’m Magnolia Takekuro,” she said quietly with a hint of pride glowing through her words. She couldn’t tell if she was being baited by the Crone, but regardless of whether she was or not the girl answered her questions as fully as she could. “I like it, it’s very… different. I’m from the south originally. Never been up to these quiet parts before,” it was the truth after all. Dahlia de Mai and the Kingdom were immensely different. If only Magnolia could have visited her savior before moving in with him, she might have had a different idea of whether this would be an ideal place for her or not. “What’s your name?” She might as well know the identity of the animal before her, should anything go wrong. But Maggie wasn’t even sure if the woman would recognize her request.

mall-caps;font-variantConfusedmall-caps;letter-spacing:4px;">THE SPARK OF DAWN

Tlantli was a patient woman, and so she waited in silence as the Associate pondered her questions and thought of her answers, fire eyes focused solely on the world beyond the river as the wheels of her mind twisted about and crushed emotions beneath them. Magnolia. A flower name, a name for a girl, so different from Tlantli, which had roots in teeth. It seemed fitting, for this wolf was clearly a woman, with her soft fur and widening hips and delicately tapering waist. Curved and feminine. A flower in appearance. Perhaps she was a flower in persona as well, delicate and frail and utterly mortal, so unlike the Crone was in her strange young wisdom and lack of sympathy.

Was Salsola so different, as Magnolia described, from the packs in the south? She had only been part of the cave pack, Anathema, and Salsola was certainly a better place than that, run by a woman who seemed to have no rhyme or reason. None of them were like Eterne. She allowed her eyes to close, pondering these words with careful consideration. Was it a bad difference? Were they wrong? Certainly not, they were simply stronger and smarter and oh-so better prepared.

"Aye ahm Tlantli Kimaris, frahm Eterne. In Mexico." So far away, her warm deserts and forests and the ruins of ancient civilization turned useful to the Luperci who lived there. "What ties you to this plaise, Mahgnola." Who was it who had brought her? She smelled of Eris, of Larkspur, but she wondered which was her friend -- it wasn't her business to keep track of them all.
