Set on the western border of the Forest of Nod. For Libri. WC: 302.

Wraith had decided that today she would explore the mansion. Nathaniel was always talking about and how daddy had told them there was an amazing mansion and all sorts of other things. Or, Wraith thought he had. Maybe Nathaniel had mentioned it once and Wraith had started talking about it a lot; she wasn’t too sure anymore. Either way, she really wanted to go explore the mansion and see not only what a mansion was, but also, make an adventure for herself.

She hadn’t told her brother or sister what she was doing, so the walk from her cave to this mansion place took forever. Walking places without company was the worst, she decided, and the grass must have hated her that day because it was very yellow and scratchy on her little paws. She stepped on a particularly tough piece of grass and immediately jumped in surprise because it was just so sharp!

“Ow!” she declared to no one in particular. “Bad grass,” she told it. She tried to give it her worst daddy glare, but she was not as good at them as he was. Maybe one day she would surprise him with a really good glare. Then he would have to be proud of her!

She decided the best way to nurse her wound would be to suck it up and reward herself with a mansion. Maybe it would make her foot feel better! So she continued heading east to where she was very certain the mansion was located. She was so excited! She had never had a mansion before! She tried to skip to hurry it up, but she ended up tumbling down when she realized how much her foot hurt. She pushed herself to her feet and got up in a huff. That was mean, mean grass!

Hybridspaaaaaaaaaaaawn~

Mandatory thoughts continued to drive her mad, and helped maintaining her usual, foul mood. Once she had wondered why she was lonely, but she had quickly learned the reasons why during her stay here. Arrogance did not go well with her angry personality, and made Halo Lykoi a foul creature to be around. This she had accepted, and this was how it would continue to be. She could of course not match a certain warrior of Inferni, and the silent respect for Hybrid had remained even if she had stepped on his head and reached a higher position in the hierarchy. He was one of the few that seemed to understand the world as she did.

Hues matching that of freshly drawn blood were drawn toward the intriguing sound cutting through the usual noise of nature dancing to the breeze and the birds’ song. An intruder was heading towards the dear home. This was nothing new, for members of Inferni often took the liberty to claim a spot for themselves in the great mansion before they decided they were too soft and weak to be a part of this magnificent clan. Slightly parted lips revealed white fangs as she without a sound stalked through the peaceful forest, staying down-wind so not to attract any attention until she desired to make her presence known.

When her eyes found the young target, she decided that she didn’t know this creature. However, the familiar scent was enough to keep her hackles from rising, though that was as far as it went. The child tumbled and fell on the green forest floor, and an oversized hybrid ear leaned back against dark auburn locks in silent revulsion for this pathetic creature. She wondered if it was in her to ever love any child. Her love for her own son had been crippled, and now she had only reason to loathe the rape child that had come from her womb. So sad, but true.

”Where are you going, child?” her melodic tones wondered, quivering with soft warmth that did not match her cool demeanour the slightest. She stalked forth from the underbrush, allowing ruby lit eyes to continue their investigation of a familiar fur, though she did not think she had seen this child before.

She didn't hear anyone approach, so when a voice suddenly cut through the silence, Wraith was horribly startled. She had only just pulled herself to her feet, and so she was already a little off balance. She jumped sideways and pulled her injured paw up, turned her body to face the noise, and immediately flattened her ears against her skull. When she was able to look up, she saw a rather tall and imposing coyote looming over her. Wraith craned her head up skywards to get a better look at this lady. She set her paw down and took a few skittish steps back, staring at the huge coyote with wide eyes. She was much bigger than daddy, but maybe about the same size as mom. Unlike her mother — and Wraith — she had deep red eyes. Wraith wondered if she was related to daddy!

"Uhh," Wraith said at first, trying to remember what the coyote had said. She'd been so surprised that she hadn't really heard it, so it took her a few seconds to remember. "Findin' a mansun!" She frowned, wondering if she should ask this lady if she knew what a mansion was or where it was. Daddy always talked about discipline, respect, and authority, and if he heard her speak to the lady like this, he would probably be very angry. Hurriedly, she added, "umm, miss," as an afterthought.

Only because I chose to reply to this one instead of others Sad

Halo had surely never been as small as this little thing. The corners of her mouth twisted slightly at the ridiculous thought, but it seemed such a long time ago, and her childhood had been spent far from the skull bordered lands of the Inferni clan. Pale palms rose to support sweetly curved hips as she looked the child over, naturally wondering which of the clan’s members allowed their young to waddle around on their own. The Centurion remembered the last child of Inferni well, and in the end he had turned into a cold, reeking corpse by the Inferni’s own borders.

Oversized ears flicked at the childish voice greeting her with an answer—and then she had to concentrate keeping the lines on her face stern as she saw a frown stretch across the young one’s face. Perhaps the adult knew it then; who this little girl possibly belonged to. There was another frowner within these lands. ”I believe you mean a mansion.” the woman corrected, her voice sharper than she had intended as it rushed against the pleasant July air. Blood eyes seemed merciless, but a child of Inferni would always be safe in the she-warrior’s presence. Relatively safe.

”Where are your parents?” It was a command, not a question. While this girl was well within Inferni territory, the Forest of Nod clung to the borders. Wolves did not always know their place, and Halo didn’t want to see such a young child stalking about on her own.

And now I am back from vacation! Big Grin

Wraith flattened her ears when the other coyote said mansion. She didn’t look very mean, but her words sounded mean, and so Wraith didn’t know what to do. She fumbled with her paws for a few moments as she tried to figure out what to say. She glanced down at her paws and then back up, realizing that this lady did look mean and that her words sounded not-nice too, so she must be a mean lady.

“Yeah!” Wraith replied in a gush. “I said dat!” she explained. With her puppy words, everything sounded like a shout in comparison to the lady’s quiet questions. Wraith took a step sideways, wondering if she could leave yet. She wanted to find the mansion! Where was the mansion! Wraith didn’t like how the lady was taking so long. This was boring!

“My daddee? He’s hi-brid!” she replied. “And my mommee is Uh-rih! But mommee is gone so I live with Taleeee and Valeee,” she explained.

Sorry, I didn't see your reply until recently Sad

An impulsive laughter erupted from the warrior woman as the girl’s daddy was given a name. It was quite possible that this wasn’t his first child; the man was older than Halo by many years. She shook her head, lightly, the necklace of teeth rattling drily on its cord. The Centurion would have expected something fiercer than this little doll though. But she was young and had many months to develop into something her father could be proud of. Air whistled through shitting lips; she was sort of uncertain of who Uh-rih was.

Halo resisted pulling a grimace when she learned who the girl lived with. Her initial reaction was to sneer at the thought of Talitha and Valkyrie taking care of a child. It shouldn’t be a surprise, because someone obviously failed hard at the parent thing. The Lykoi should know; she was a complete failure on this field. But it wouldn’t stop her from doing the right thing now (or, whatever was right in her opinion at the moment). ”Go home to Tali and Val,” she barked, voice firm and angry, though her temper had not yet risen. The girl couldn’t roam around alone and Halo didn’t want to play babysitter.

's all good brosefina

The coyote woman’s laughter was sudden and startling and caused Wraith to fall backwards onto her butt. She stared up at the coyote, eyes wide, wondering if she really was related to Hybrid. She had the same red eyes, she said strange things, and she even laughed very meanly just like Hybrid did too. As with Hybrid, Wraith never understood why he laughed and she was exactly the same. Wraith just didn’t get any of this. Why was she shaking her head? Why did she have teeth on her neck? That was just gross! Pee-yew! And Wraith thought Hybrid smelled bad; she bet this coyote smelled just as bad too. She stood up quickly when she saw that the lady was about to say something.

When the coyote spoke, Wraith gave her a confused look. “Huh? Why! We dun hav a munsun! Iffa go home, I cann’aventurate!” She explained this with her wide-eyed stare and a bit of a pout, not really liking that she couldn’t go on her adventure. But she didn’t like how mean the coyote lady sounded, so she instinctively tucked her tail in between her legs and took a few steps back. She didn’t want to go home, but lady was so mean!

Eyebrows climbed higher on her forehead as the stupid creature found the courage to question her command. The tip of the adult’s muzzle rose slightly, and there was a storm approaching in deep red eyes as they narrowed, dangerous. Of course, the little girl had some immunity because she was a part of the clan the warrior woman had swore to serve, but after China’s bloody beating, she knew that the lines were no longer as clear as they had been. Halo could be dangerous even to her own people. China’s bloodied face was something she looked back to with a smile on devious lips.

”Do I look like I care that you won't get to see your munsuun?” she asked, voice whipping hard against the pleasant air. ”You’re lucky I found you when you did, because there are wolves everywhere, and they will hunt you and eat you aliivee Not really, but it could happen. Maki had lost his life not far from here, and there had been killings here in the past. The child needed to be spooked. They always seemed to believe they were untouchable and invulnerable, but alas, it wasn’t so. Blood would paint the ground red again, the woman was certain of this. This brat would have to make her adventurous trip to the mansion another day.

The Centurions crossed her arms before her chest and tapped her foot impatiently; her unpleasant glare intense upon the little girl’s face. ”You will do as I say, or I promise you will regret this day.” Yes, this was a threat that the adult intended to act upon if she didn’t get her way.

Wraith instantly regretted saying anything at all. Even though her daddy always said to pay the ultimate respect to warriors like him, she clearly had done something wrong to anger the mean lady. She was almost as frowny and grumpy as her daddy was, maybe just as much, but in a different way. Wraith wanted to reply with a polite, ‘no ma’am,’ but realized this might be one of those questions you don’t answer. Hybrid asked a lot of those, asking her why she was still alive and why she didn’t just throw herself into a river. Wraith usually did not answer these because she knew he would get angry if she said anything.

When the lady mentioned wolves, Wraith realized she knew the same things as daddy did. He always said that wolves were stupid, thoughtless creatures that couldn’t understand the difference between a clan’s borders and a regular tree, which Wraith thought must make them really dumb. The smell of Inferni was so strong everywhere, so they had to be dumb. But daddy never said wolves would hurt her: just that they hurt wolves.

“But daddee says we eat dem wolves. Am I too small to eat dem wolves aliiveee?” she asked, trying to imitate the way the lady spoke. “I go home, lady miss ma’am please. Daddy says things like that, so I don’t wanna... wee.... weeeg... weeee... thingy... please ma’am,” she replied. She took a step back, then another, and one more to show the lady that she would go home.

Halo liked the sulky man that apparently was this little shit’s father, but the child was too young to show promise. Though, she couldn’t quite imagine an innocent version of Hybrid, regardless of age. Flawless teeth grinded together as she continued her unpleasant glare, listening to the girl speaking of eating wolves. ”Definitely too small,” she added, remembering Maki and the unworthy end he had met by these very borders. Death was a natural part of life, but Inferni should be the part handing it out. They were not meant to be carved out as victims.

She go home, lady miss. Pale whiskers crinkled slightly as she failed to interpret the puppy’s last sentence. Didn’t fucking matter either way. ”Yeah you will,” she said. Go home, that was. The little girl took three small steps back, and Halo took one, long step forward. A child at this age shouldn’t be going alone anywhere, and the adult wouldn’t let her out of her sight before Talitha or Val or both took over the responsibility. She’d love to shower them with demeaning words about how to take care of a child.

Hmm, I think we are done? :}

Wraith was sad to hear that she was too small to nom a wolf. Not only was she too small, she was definitely too small. She understood a bit about how words worked and knew that 'definitely' meant something was for sure and that there was no other way around it. So there was no way she would be big enough -- yet -- to eat a wolf. If she couldn't do that, how would she ever make daddy proud?

Her sadness was replaced by a sudden strike of fear when the lady lunged forward at her. Wraith tried to keep backing up, but found her retreat was blocked by a small evergreen tree. She felt the needles poking in to her back and the prickling sensation only made her skin crawl even more. The lady had a certain look in her eye that reminded her of daddy, but she looked like she wanted to hurt Wraith. Daddy only ever looked bored, annoyed, or pissed off. Sometimes Wraith thought he didn't even see her. But this lady was looking right at her and it was very scary. Wraith squeaked and then inched sideways. She took a few more steps and then set off at a run, moving as quickly as she possibly could.
