The barn raising thread! So I dont know how many of you remember but the barn and a few of the surronding buildings need fixing! And Saul has gathered a few trusted peoples together to help out! I can't remember who volunteered in the thread, but I think it was something like; Adonia, Temo, Jace, Eclipse, Melee, Shiloh (Lewis) or something along those lines! Anyone is welcome to join. Its an open posting thread, so I will be posting every few days regardless of any order!

The young Stormbringer male had been busy the past few days, getting things ready for the project he'd had in his mind for a long time. The horses that stayed in the barn weren't exactly the safest they could be with the back half of the roof caved in. Plus the fact that with a lot of Ichikan's now owning horses, and housing them in the barn, space was getting a bit tight. They could probably fit only a few more horses in the remaining stalls and then they would have no space left. So it was time to fix the barn and make stalls out of whatever was left. The young Hui K'o had spent the past couple of days collecting enough wood to replace the broken planks on the roof, to get the roof at least up and running. There were other buildings at the ranch that needed fixing, but the barn was the most urgent it seemed. As he'd began to make a stock pile of wood, others had gotten curious and he'd managed to enlist the help of those around him. He was pleased to see that his sisters companion Lewis was up for helping out. He seemed like a good guy and Saul hoped that whatever was going on between the two of them was what they both wanted.

He'd woken this morning and made his usual rounds. They would have to make sure all the animals were turned out into the fields before they started to get to work on the roof. They would need to clear out all of the broken bits, get rid of the rubbish that was around and generally organise the wood that had come down when the roof had collapsed into what could be used on the roof and what could be used elsewhere. The wolves of Ichika had to be very resourceful, as with anywhere else they lived. They couldnt waste the wood and would be able to re-use it anywhere else. Of course, they would have to use some new bits of wood, especially when rebuilding the stalls for the horses. He made his way out to the barn at about ten, hoping to get a head start on clearing away the debris before everyone else turned up. He'd told them about noon and they'd been all to happy to help out.

He spent a good few minutes getting all of the horses out of the barn and into the paddocks. They seemed happy enough to roam around and eat the grass so Saul left them all to it, moving towards the damaged part of the barn. This collapse was much bigger than the roof in Cerne Rise that they'd fixed. It was practically half the barns roof. With a deep breath, he began to clear away the rubble, always sorting through what they could use and what couldnt be used on the roof, making a large pile of simple rubbish in the center. In ways he resembled some kind of tornado, rushing through the barn. In his wake was cleanliness and space instead of destruction, but his energy was on the same par. This would be how others found him, waist deep in the rubble, sorting and cleaning and thinking.

Eclipses day had started early, as early as it normally did. She'd taken to trying to ride Buttercup much more after he slight accident down at the bottom of the mountain. She was determined never to fall off the horse like that again, so she'd taken Buttercup out early every morning before her own chores began, which was mostly tending the garden behind the apartments, which was flourishing. They had tomatoes! Even some carrots. There was rhubarb but she decided it wasn't worth eating, it was far too sour, and she didn't know what good would come of it, but it had been an experiment at first so she would learn not to plant certain seeds. there were a few stalks of corn growing, herbs like parsley, basil, oregano, rosemary were doing well also, though she had to figure out what seed was which to begin with. She'd started from scratch basically so the whole thing about it was hard to comprehend. Once she was done with her chores she headed to the barn.

She'd promised to help saul fix it up with a number of people, and that's what she was going to do. When she entered she could see him in the back clearing the old rubble. She went over and wordlessly started helping. She'd remembered the rubble from the apartments and clearing them so she was nearly an expert at clearing and with help it would be far quicker than doing it alone.

"Blast!" Melee shouted as she fell out of her bed, hitting the floor of her apartment with a thunk. Light was peering in through her window, cheerily lighting up her room. Saul had told them to meet up at noon, but she had stayed out too late the night before. Without intending to do it, she had slept straight through to the meeting time. Which meant that everyone else was probably there! Scrambling to her feet, she pulled her door open and then quickly closed it. Hopefully no one else nearby had been trying to sleep in, because she closed the door rather loudly on her way out.

As soon as she was outside, she began to run. Moving as quickly as she could toward Broken Arrow Ranch. She was a year old, in a Specialized rank (which was very recent!) but she couldn't even wake up at the right time. The weather had been so beautiful the night before, though, she hadn't been able to help herself. It was a night for wandering and spending time out in the fresh air, not for sleeping. She was paying for it today, though, as her lungs burned and she ran to the barn to help her uncle with getting it fixed up.

She was surprised when no one was there except for Saul and Eclipse. Her breathing was a bit labored, but it started to settle down as she slowed to a walk. She walked up beside her uncle, making sure that he wasn't holding anything heavy before she grabbed him in a big hug. "Sorry I'm a bit late, I overslept. Where's a good place to start?" she asked, eager to get started now that she had arrived. The girl looked over at Eclipse with a smile and a happy tail wag for her cousin. It wasn't the exuberant hug that she had given Saul, but today was more about working than socializing.

She hadn't put too much thought into fixing the barn. Not that she didn't care about it, she just had a lot of other things on her mind. One being the constant absence of her mate in her own life. Was she even attached to him anymore? In truth her feelings for him was growing rapidly neutral but she wouldn't say anything about it, instead, she let it stew within her like a tick stuck in a hard spot. Then there was just keeping up with the critters within the Ranch. Between her growing depression and taking care of the animals she just managed to forget about it until she happened to walk back that way to do a mid day feeding of the horses. It hit her like a brick and she felt horrible. Seriously! She scolded herself then rushed over to Saul and the two young females.

Without a word she began to help sort the rubble already figuring out what he was doing. One pile of good still usable pieces and one pile of unusable rubble. Her eyes glanced over to Saul with a slight apologetic look, then she couldn't help but glance to the other two. She wasn't familiar with them, but she did recognize them from the ceremony. After making the connection she then focused all of herself into the task at hand. It wasn't often she worked with others and to her it was slightly enjoyable but nerve racking as her self-conscious tendency fought to show through. Her ears rolled back and she began to battle within her mind making her stay completely silent during her time sorting.

She made it a point to not get in anyone's way but would flash a kind smile if anyone looked her way. She didn't want to come off rude to the other girls and in a way hoped to make friends with them once the job was complete and well done.

He was so emersed in his job, sorting, shifting, occasionally sweeping, that he almost missed Eclipse entering the barn. He was pleased she'd agreed to come and help him- she'd been there when they'd fixed the apartment roof so she was aquainted with the process they went through. She entered silently and didnt say anything to him, simply started on the rubbish and rubble a few yards away from him. Saul paused and glanced over at her, a smile creeping on his lips. If they didnt have a job to do, Saul would have been tempted to jump over and entice his cousin into play. But they had a job to do so instead he chuck a small chunk of wood at her arm instead.

"Don't say hello then!"

He laughed, a big grin lighting his face up. He moved back to his work in case she threw something back at him before another presence burst into the barn. Saul glanced back to see his favourite niece, well his only niece so far, waltz in looking a bit flustered. In all honesty he hadnt been checking on the time so he wasnt aware how 'late' his niece was. He shrugged instead, offering her a smile. He was pleased that two of his own family members were willing to come and help out and well as whoever else decided to come along. He looked around him, noticing that he'd managed to make a good lead in the center of the rubble but the outside were still looking a bit bad. He nodded towards the right side with a smile.

"No problem Mele's. Over there is looking a bit neglected... If you could start sorting things out into things that we can reuse and rubbish, that would be a great help."

He said, aiming a small chunk of wood at her as well when she moved to get past him- best not let her feel left out. Another noice to the entrance of the barn made him stop and turn. The black and white female he'd become aquainted with through the very barn they were helping to fix stood there before coming forward. She looked distracted, a little self conscious maybe, and as Eclipse had done, she didnt say a word as she moved forward. He watched her for a second, noticing how she picked up quickly what they were doing. With the four of them, it would take less time than he thought to get everything sorted out and cleared away.

"Thanks for coming along Adonia. This is my cousin Eclipse and my niece Melee. Girls, this is Adonia, she looks after the animals."

He said, flashing Adonia a smile before getting back to it. Hopefully between he and Melee they would be able to get some kind of conversation flowing in here.

It was the dark predawn when Temo left their house. He had some collecting to do before heading off to the barn repair work party that day. There were several houses he used for stashes that he walked to and collected a few things that he put into one of the hide bags that he had slung over his shoulders. The sun had fully risen over the horizon when he felt he had everything that would be needed.

The sun had climbed higher in the morning sky when Temo finally arrived at the site. At first, he thought he was the first to arrive but discovered the others when he rounded the corner. With a clank, he set down the larger of the two bags. The other, he set down more carefully. "Hi guys," he said as he worked his shoulders and tried to relieve the pain that he had gained carrying the heavy bag.

After a moment, he reached down, opened the bag and dumped the contents out on the ground. Amongst the noise, a number of tools appeared from the bag. There were a number hammers and a couple of sledge hammers. Amongst the pile were several crow bars poking out from the pile. There were also a couple of saws in the mess. "I brought some tools that may be useful in this en devour," he said when he picked up the other bag that contained his tools that he carried with him to projects. He moved off a bit and set up a work bench of sorts and left his tools there and started removing the rotten boards from around the damaged area of the barn.

She had been overly worried about being "late" and probably should have just skipped the apology. Melee didn't dwell on this, though, and neither did Saul. So in the end it didn't really matter. As her uncle looked around for a good place to start the work, she tried to assess what needed to be done herself. This wasn't really her area of expertise, but that didn't mean that the girl couldn't try to understand what needed to be done. Her bi-toned gaze flickered back to Saul when he explained where he wanted her to work. It seemed like an easy enough job: sort through what should be kept and what shouldn't. "On it!" she replied with a wag of her tail, heading off to the area that he had indicated to start sorting out the debris.

When the piece of wood he tossed at her glanced off of her arm, she looked over at him with a playful scowl. Leaning down, she picked up the piece and chucked it toward Eclipse with a playful grin. Perhaps instigating a game of "toss around the wood" while they worked. Just as she was about to begin sorting, she heard her uncle introducing someone. A dark-and-light female had joined them, apparently named Adonia. She raised her hand when her name was mentioned and waved to indicate that she was Melee. "Good to meet you, Adonia." she said with a smile, then set back to working. After they had finished what they needed to do, perhaps she would try to get to know the other female better. Right now, though, there were things to be done and socializing had to wait until it was complete.

It was somewhat mindless work, stacking things into piles. It also stretched her muscles out in ways that she didn't usually use them. The girl wished there was some way to even out the exercise between her arms, but this wasn't work that her deformed hand could really assist with. Still, whenever there was something she could do with that arm, she made a point to utilize it. Tipping her head to the side she assessed the impact she had made on the rubble around where she was working. She was surprised when she heard the clang of metal, and jumped a bit. Melee had been so engrossed in her work that she hadn't heard Temo's initial greeting, causing her to be caught off guard by the sudden noise.

The girl turned toward the carpenter, looking at his tools with interest. Although it seemed more like skilled labor than what she was doing and she was unfamiliar with the tools he was arranging. Melee made a point to wave toward him, though, and figured that either Saul or Temo would let her know if they needed her over there. For now, she kept at her current task. Once again zoning out so that she could just focus on what she was doing. Though this time she was more careful to listen for the voices of her companions in case she was needed elsewhere... and so she wasn't surprised again.

OOC: what a crappy post

She had been too far deep in her thoughts that she really had forgotten to say hello and as the piece of wood hit her, not hard, she jumped and squeeled in surprise. She smiled at Saul as he spoke with a grin on his face. She threw a small piece of wood back at him, not too hard, and intentionally missed him as it flew by his body.

“I'm sorry I'm just thinking about the plants i've been growing, what i'm going to do with them.”

She smiled at his laugh and then saw that there were other's there, and how quickly the area had been cleaned up since other canines started helping. This made her think, if they always worked together as they did, they could get things done so fast. She was still on her task, though trying to pay attention. She noticed Melee and smiled, though the girl had her back to her. Eclipse hadn't seen Melee for some time, but then then had their own stuff. Eclipse made a point to move over to Melee and help her with what she was doing, wondering how long it would take her to notice Eclipse was there. She had her own mischievous smile

Temo worked diligently through the few hours he was there so far. He carefully picked his way around on the roof and checked all the boards for rot. He carefully pried up the roofing shingles as he went and stacked them out of the way on the good portion of the roof. He separated them by how much of them was rotten and the fully rotten pieces he chucked onto the pile of bad wood that was slowly growing larger with everyone busy sorting out the good from the bad.

He was so engrossed with the work he was doing that it was several hours before he realized that the sawdust he created when he cut off the rotten bits of wood was slowly drifting down on the air currents and the others were down there busy with their tasks, getting sawdust in their fur along with the dust that was being stirred up.

He stopped working for a few minutes and sat on the roof looking around. He could see a creek in the distance and realized how dry his throat was. "I'm going to get me some water," he called down to the others and then clambered back down to the ground and grabbed a water skin from his tool bag.

It was a short trip to the creek where he took a long drink and filled the water skin. It was a nice walk to the creek and back to the barn and his muscles were rested up and he felt renewed once again and ready to tackle the barn. With his full water skin sitting in his tool bag, Temo went back to work and started going through the pile of good lumber and worked at sorting out pieces for the shingle nailing strips. "Do we have someplace to scavenge more lumber if there is not enough here?" he asked Saul.
