She growled. Ataxia was a girl of few words as of yet - she was young and words were not always easy to form - but she enjoyed noises. All of them were still far from mastered (her howling attempts were more yips and squeaky croons than true howling) but it was the changes that interested her. From when she had first started to hear the noises that she made, they had already become different. Her mother's voice was different, her siblings' voices were different, her father's voice was different... only the young wolves had theirs fluctuating, though, changing into the way their voices would sound when they were adults. Intuitively, she knew that her voice would be a mellower, more effeminate version of her father's. Someday. Until that day, she would prefer the noises she could make which had no particular meaning.

Today she had a bone. It was not a particularly interesting bone when it boiled right down to it. The discarded remnant of a rabbit long ago eaten, its marrow already chewed and licked out so that there was no real value to it. Yet somehow, Ataxia had found herself interested in chewing on it further. She ground her tiny teeth against the bone, noticing that it didn't leave marks like her father and mother's teeth had. Sure, it probably did leave infantile scratches on the surface of the bone, but it wasn't what she wanted. This was why she had growled and it was why she growled again. Her white-frosted tail snapped back and forth like an agitated cat's; being a child meant she was weak in so many ways in which she was determined to be strong. Like most children, she eagerly aimed to grow up. Someday, Ataxia D'Angelo wanted to be just like her father and her mother; strong, enigmatic, and full of a zest that not all wolves possessed. There was a special spark that made them what they were instead of the more dull creatures of the world - slaves, for instance.

Someday, she too would do Salsola proud and produce her own heirs to the Family. For now, though, she kept chewing away. Determined to make her mark on the bone as she was determined to make her mark ont he world.

Basti knew of Eris's pups and had even been to visit them a few times. And well, now he had even more cause to visit with Eris since he had acquired one of his own. She provided nutrients for him that Basti would be unable to get otherwise. So really it was luck that he had made such a good impression upon her previously for her to do him this favor. Without her little Enigma would easily starve to death. So Bastion had to visit more frequently in order to get bottles refilled for his son to feed from. In some strange way of thinking Enigma and Eris's pups were like milk siblings.

"Taxi." The shortened form of the name was spoken with a sort of affection and a nod of his head. The nickname simply fell in line with his clipped way of speaking. Basti settled himself on the ground with Enigma on his lap and a bottle placed into the pup's mouth. "What doing?" He questioned the young girl as he watched her. He had never seen the appeal in bones himself. He was more the type to lap up the blood and suckle upon the raw flesh and organs. Blood was his addiction and if he could live on that alone he wouldn't need to fill his belly with the flesh.

While Basti might not be prone to producing spawn of his own he believed that he had already done enough to have his name remembered. After all he had showed why he deserved his rank through short bursts. For those that had seen just how easily he could mutilate another without blinking and then watching him with Enigma it almost seemed like two entirely different beings. But that just showed that the boy was more complex than most gave him credit for. The male just played upon the assumptions of others was all.

Ataxia grumbled and growled at the bone, worrying away at it with as much ferocity as she could muster. So far it hadn't really done anything for her, though. It was a useless little thing that she would someday defeat. It was right as she was starting to get bored with her bone that Bastion arrived. So it was that she readily dropped the plaything in order to turn her attention to the far more interesting Arbiter. "Basssst!" the girl said delightedly. She rose to walk toward him, poking her nose against the line of his arm in an affectionate gesture. She had seen him several times before and she knew him well enough to trust him. Today the puppy was in his arms. It was smaller than her, younger and more fragile. When it got older, Ataxia was determined that they would be friends.

At Bastion's question, she looked over at the bone and lifted her upper lip. She growled at the bone as if it had offended her, then turned back to the dark male. One hindpaw kicked dirt in the direction of the bone to further display her distaste for it. Though she had been so fiercely chewing it mere moments before, it had lost her favor. "Chewin it! Bad bone." she replied, glaring again over at the offending bone. It was bad because it wouldn't let her chew it into littler bits. That was probably something she should have put in her explanation of what she was doing, but Ataxia assumed he knew. She leaned in to sniff at the milk-scented puppy in Bastion's arms. "Enigma plaayyy?" she asked, looking up hopefully with baby blue eyes. Was he big enough to romp and goof off yet? A boy pup to play with would be fun! Her sisters got boring after a while.

He giggled as his greeting was replied with one of excitement. Who could believe that children actually liked him despite his eccentricities? But then that could also be placed in the line of speculation that it was because he spoke and acted like them himself. He didn't show himself as the sort of being too high and mighty to get down and play. And well, he shared nearly the same amount of curiosity as well. So perhaps it really wasn't too much of a surprised that he could earn the favor of children. They were young yet and hadn't a firm concept of right and wrong just yet. They could be influenced to easily to share in his values and beliefs.

Basti reached over to stroke his fingers through the fur upon Ataxia's head as she nosed his arm. Bastion had never really thought of himself to be the sort to enjoy being around small children but he had to say he was. It was strange because he could just as easily snuff their lives in order to extend his own, and had even done so before. Perhaps it was only because this child belonged to Eris, belonged to Salsola. After all they hadn't changed his opinion on their worth. He simply would not take from Salsola's numbers but outsiders didn't have such consideration from him.

It was true that he didn't need the entire explanation. After all he should be able to understand since it was the exact same manner in which he spoke. He looked over at the bone and laughed as Ataxia displayed her distaste for it. But it didn't remain the subject of discussion for long as the young girl came closer to inspect Enigma. The pup was larger than Bastion had been at his age, nearing a month old or so give or take a few days. But then again Bastion had been a runt and it was clear that Enigma wasn't.

Basti gave a nod of his head in agreement with Ataxia's request. He didn't mind letting his son down to play as long as he wished to do so as well. So once Enigma had finished drinking from his bottle Basti released him from his hold and placed the pup on the ground. "Careful." Bastion cautioned both of the pups. After all Ataxia was larger than Enigma because she was older than him and well, Enigma still wobbled a bit when he walked. Though mainly now it was when he would get excited that he would stumble. It really was quite and improvement from what he had started out as. But then again pups always seemed to learn and develop in leaps and bounds. It seemed as if each week there came a new mastery in some area as well as a new discovery in yet another area. It seemed almost as if one day spent away from the pup would mean that some other major milestone would be missed. And for some reason Bastion found himself not wishing to miss any of that.

[/html]As of yet, she knew nothing of "bad" versus "good" except when it came to her own behavior. Sometimes she was wrong in doing something, in which case she would be corrected and told what she was supposed to do. For instance, she wasn't allowed to roam away from the den on her own. So leaving the area without supervision was labeled "bad" and doing what she was supposed to - staying home - was "good." This was not a question of good versus evil. That would come later on in her life. Though truthfully, her thoughts on the matter would be formed and shaped by her experiences. Perhaps for her, "evil" would not be the same as what someone from other packs thought. It was all about the nurture side of that nurture/nature dynamic.

As his fingers brushed against her head, she leaned into the touch, enjoying the feeling of the tips of his claws against her skull. There was no fear there of the power that lay within those hands, because he had never raised them to harm her. Though it was probably foolish to be so trusting, she was young and had not yet learned as much mistrust as she perhaps should. When wolves were permitted to visit here, there was a reason. It was because her mother trusted them enough to let them see her puppies. If Eris trusted them, then she trusted them. This trust by proxy would fade in time, but the Auxiliary was currently the very center of Ataxia's world and to her, the Eternity woman knew everything.

She was delighted when Enigma was going to be let down to play. Brightly, her blue eyes lit up and she backed up to give space for the smaller cub to be let down. He was a month younger than her, but that month changed their growth significantly. Luckily Ataxia was small for her age - and would always be - so she wasn't massively huge compared to him. Still, the size difference was noticeable and she twitched her ears to listen to Bastion's warning to be careful. The girl nodded firmly, to show that she understood, though her hindquarters wiggled with her inner excitement. This was a boy pup! Which was odd to her, because she had only met girl pups - her sisters - before and thus this was a doubly exciting playtime.

Remembering Bastion's warning to be careful, she walked forward cautiously toward Enigma. Her intention was just to walk up and sniff at him, then maybe start a game of tag. Little puppies could do that, right? As long as the smaller pup didn't move out of the way, she would go right up to him and lick his nose. "You it!" then dash away.

While it wouldn't usually be recommended to trust Bastion Ataxia was safe because of where she lived and who her mother was. After all Enigma was going to have been a meal for Bastion until Janos had decided that he had wanted to keep the pup. It was strange to think that such a decision hadn't been made so long ago and here Bastion was coddling the pup as if the thought had never crossed his mind. But then again it wasn't like there were any in Salsola that wouldn't say his ways, or even him, weren't strange. It was just something that one had to get used to when dealing with the runtish male.

Enigma stared at Ataxia, his eyes ending up crossing after his nose was licked. He didn't seem to exactly understand what was going on or what he was supposed to do. The pup watched the female run away before looking up at Bastion with a tilt of his head. "Go get." Bastion supplied vocal cues as well as physical ones since he pointed after Ataxia and nodded his head in direction. Enigma tilted his head from one side to the other before he gave a yip and turned his attention back to Ataxia.

The younger pup gave chase after the slightly larger one. Enigma hadn't exactly mastered physical coordination just yet and so when he tried to run he ended up tripping over his own large paws. The pup did fine enough with just general walking but as soon as he attempted to move quickly he ended up tumbling to the ground. Enigma looked back to Bastion with a whine but Basti only gave a shake of his head and didn't move to help him. "Again." He spoke the single word, encouraging Enigma to get himself up and to try it again. It was the only way that the pup was going to learn after all.
