September 13. Very slight pp of Haven - Princess tells him Vigi's here.

The puppies had been born only a day before, but Vigilante did not have the time to settle in with his family the way he would have wanted to. There were other matters to attend to as the King of Miracles. Though he wanted to focus on his family, he could not do so just yet. The letter from AniWaya weighed heavily on his mind. It had been a few days since he had gotten the letter that he had asked Liam to read for him (as he could not do it himself, reading being a skill he did not have the time to learn) and now it was time to deal with it.

The letter was specific in stating that the new leaders abhorred hybrids, and Vigilante knew that this meant bad for anyone in his pack that got tangled up with them. Most of his members were dogs, like himself, or hybrids, like his children. The letter did not specify who was held captive, but the King feared it was an obvious hybrid member, and the one he knew of in AniWaya was his great-niece and Niro's daughter, Foxglove.

It was an educated guess, he decided, that drove him to venture away from his home and his family so soon after Skoll, Hati, and Lottie had been born. Vigilante made the walk to Haven's home with quick strides in his secui form, and when he arrived, Princess met him with her daughter, Felicity. They were off to the city, but admitted him inside and told Haven that the King wanted to speak with him. Vigilante waited in the living room, the folded letter sitting on the floor in front of him.

The Knight's sour mood had been hanging over him ever since he had learned of his mother's imprisonment in AniWaya. One day he had raced off in a mad attempt to try and rescue her single-handedly, but his sister had rightfully stopped him in Crimson Dreams and dissuaded him from risking himself in a surely doomed attempt. Mati had been right, but that had not made the bitter pill of his mother's captivity any easier to swallow. Haven had dedicated his life to the pursuit of protecting those he loved, and now when his mother needed him more than she ever had, he was powerless to do anything to save her. That knowledge was an angry acid that ate away at the Seneschal's insides and made him dangerous to cross with even the minutest of trespasses. He had become sullen and silent, even around his family. Haven had been doing his best to be alone these days, to spare everyone else his ill temper.

It was a lucky coincidence then that the King had sought him out at his home when he had. He had been mildly surprised when Princess had told him Vigilante was without wishing to speak with him; it wasn't often that the King came to him. Donned in his usual jacket and jeans, the Knight walked into the living room to find Vigilante standing with a scrap of paper in front of him. Jade eyes passed over the note curiously before they turned to look his monarch in the face. "Vigilante, good to see you. What can I do for you?" he asked evenly.

"It is good to see you, as well," he replied in his stoic manner, though the circumstances were hardly pleasant. Haven's mood did not seem warm as it might normally, though the King did not know the reason behind this. It was subtle, but there was a shift in the way he acted that caused the King to question what may have happened. If it was within the Kingdom, he was wretchedly unaware; without, it was more forgivable that he would not know.

Vigilante did not know how much, if anything, his pack members knew of the AniWaya conflict with Crimson Dreams. With family in the latter pack, it seemed only logical that Haven would know some of it, but Vigilante did not know if Haven had been to visit recently. "What do you know about the current happenings of AniWaya?" he asked. His own manner was hardly gentle or friendly, but the times had caused great change for him.

There was not a particularly friendly relationship between the King and Knight, but Haven respected Vigilante and that was really all he required of the man that lead the Court. He had been friends with Jacquez, and they all knew how pathetic an excuse for a King the arrogant collie had been. Haven might not have seen it at the time, but he certainly saw it now when he looked back upon those times. Cour des Miracles was better off with Jacquez gone and Vigilante at the helm. It seemed perhaps his leader knew that he was not quite himself, but there was nothing said, and for that the Seneschal was thankful.

Everything changed when the subject of AniWaya was mentioned by the hybrid King however. Jade eyes flashed with malice and Haven could not stop his lips from morphing into an angry snarl. "The bastards have my mother." The words were said with the undercurrent of a growl beneath them. That was all the Aatte needed to know about the thrice-damned tribe, but he realized Vigilante would likely want more information. "They attacked Crimson Dreams for letting an exiled family take refuge there. Savina made an attempt at diplomacy, but it failed." He looked back to Vigilante with scrutiny on his face. "Why do you want to know?" Had something happened that would involve the Court in this conflict?

A harsher reaction than he had expected met his question, though the King knew the snarl was not intended for him. Vigilante did not extend his apologies or sympathies; such things would do no good now, and he did not expect that they would comfort the Knight in the least bit. He had not known that AniWaya held the Seneshal's mother captive, but it was all the more reason for coming here. f he had broached the subject of Foxglove's possible imprisonment with Niro, he did not think he would get the same response. Niro was much gentler than Haven in manner. This was the fire he needed.

"This letter says they have prisoners, including one of their own, and hate hybrids," he said gruffly. "They wanted to warn us away. My niece's daughter lives there and she is a hybrid, and I fear she is the prisoner. Now I know of your mother, as well." He paused for a moment, contemplating the options. "I want to get them out of there, and any other prisoners that they have."

Haven was usually fairly even-tempered, but when his family was threatened it was a different story. He would go to any lengths to protect those he loved and punished those that threatened them. If it hadn't been for Mati, he might very well be a captive in that tribe right now too. The Knight had wanted to believe he had the power and the skill to bring his mother out on his own, but he knew deep down that he was not. His sister said they had too many trained warriors there, that he would have been riding to his death. Haven hated to admit it, but he knew she had been right, and so he had returned home. That hadn't extinguished his need for action though. Now he just knew he couldn't go in on his own.

Vigilante spoke of the letter and jade flashed back to the piece of paper on the floor. It was not a surprise to learn the new AniWayan regime hate hybrids, he would put nothing below those savages. "Who are 'they'? Who sent you this letter?" Without more information Haven couldn't help but be suspicious of the letter's origins. Though he didn't doubt that his King had good reasons for believing its contents. The monarch's last words made Haven's eyes shoot back to his leader's, an eagerness rising up in him. "I will go." It was said without hesitation. This was the chance he'd been craving. If he and his packmates went there, the AniWayans wouldn't expect it. They could get his mother out.

Waiting for Haven to process the possibility of going in to rescue the captives, Vigilante watched him closely. "It is signed Ayasha. She apparently wanted to warn us to stay away from the borders because their leader, Maska, hates hybrids. It says that he has been 'terrorizing' the tribe's members and that they have conflict with Crimson Dreams and have taken prisoners." It was a brief summary of the letter; Haven could read it if he wanted to.

The affirmative response was what he had been hoping for, though. "I think we should take a small group and go in the night," he suggested, thinking that perhaps the Knight would have some ideas. They would have to do all that they could to get Foxglove, Anu, and any other prisoners away from the tribe without being caught if they could help it. Ayasha had requested any help they could offer, as well, but that could be determined later. Now, his focus was on rescuing the family members of his pack's own.

The Knight listened carefully as Vigilante explained more about the origins of the letter and its contents. It seemed odd to him that someone from within would be warning them about all this, especially when Cour des Miracles had nothing to do with AniWaya at the current moment in time. He hadn't given much thought to the tribe's sudden violent turn, too blinded by his outrage of his mother's prisoner status, but now that he thought of it the place had seemed to be a quiet and peaceful place before. This new regime, and this Maska whoever he was, must be behind all this strife. Haven would love to put his head on a pike.

The Aatte nodded in agreement to the King's plan. There was no arguing that would be the best way to proceed. "My sister told me they have many trained warriors. We should only take those that are able to fight well." No matter how quiet and stealthy they tried to be, they would undoubtedly run across at least one of these "Guardians" and they would need to be quick to silence whoever got in their path. "I think we should have at least a couple horses as well, to help carry the prisoners once we free them. From what I've gathered, they have not been treated too kindly," he said with a severe frown.
