WC:443 OOC:Anyone can post after Grace does, It will most assuredly be a short one Smile

Life was a mess for the mother. With the whole AniWayan conflict, she was scared for her children and mate, and also scared for herself. She felt far too confined as well. She wasn’t doing anything, when at this time of year she was helping the other AniWayan’s with the autumn harvest. She wondered if anyone was doing that now. Wasy anyone making sure the horses were taken care of? Or the pregnant ones were eating right and getting their exercise? She looked outside where the autumn rain drizzled over the cracked glass of the windmill. Her children were sound asleep and ever since coming back from AniWaya, her mate had fallen deathly quiet. it hurt her because they use to be able to talk to one another, now he would barely say a word to her. She did understand that what happened was traumatizing for both his sister as well as him, but she just wished she could be of some help.

Giving a frustrated grunt she gathered up a cloak she had borrowed and left the windmeill. She trusted Nayati with the children, even in the odd state he was in. He would never harm a fur on their bodies. Liliana went to the horses makeshift shelter, though it barely kept the rain out, it was the closest they could be without actually being inside. Grabbing Graces’ halter she tugged on the horse’s reigns. Grace put up a small fight, not wanting to really go out in the rain, but in the end went with Liliana quietly. Liliana knew the only thing that could make her feel at least remotely better was a good run even if it meant riding in the rain.

Grabbing some of Grace’s mane she hopped up and started the horse at a trot until they were at an open field where she kicked the horse into a full gallop. It was a dangerous move especially since they barely knew the area and the grass was wet and mud was everywhere. All she wanted to do was ride and it felt so good. That moment passed in an instant as fear suraced when she felt herself falling back. Not only was it her, but Grace too was falling and there was nothing Liliana could do. Panic set in as she tried pushing away from the horse. Liliana had only moments to think before her head hit the ground where a hidden rock lay beneath the long wet grass. There was a sickening crack and Liliana knew no more. To make matters worse Grace’s body slammed on top of Liliana’s when she slippd in the slick grass and mud.

Grace didn’t want to go out, but how could the horse refuse a master thta had nevr forced her to do anything before? How could she denoy her distressed master? though t was wet she could feel the enjoyment of the ride. That was until she saw movement in the grasses. Her inner instinct took over as she thought it was a snake in the grass, and reared to a stop and tried to swurve to another direction, but things didn’t go as planned. She slipped. She landed on her side, but promptly got up when she righted her wits. Moving around she found Liliana’s still body. Why hadn’t she gotten up? The woman was laying in an odd way, but this did not cross the horse’s mind. The horse nudged the woman with a wet, dripping nose, but hte woman did not respond. She neighed and lippe ath the fur on the woman’s muzzle. She started getting the sinking feeling something was really wrong and she neighed in sorrow. She turned and fled to the nearest wolf living area. She had been there before when Liliana borught her children there to go inside. it had the most lived in smell she knew. She started prancing around the rain soaked yard, trying to get eanyone’s attention. The mare didn’t know it was far too late to save Liliana.

PP of Sunki as well in the post, so I don't need to post as her after.

He heard the horse outside in the rain. Even though he was feeling groggy and tired, the Sadira managed to get to the window and see the body of a horse outlined by the lights in the manor windows. Furrowing his brows and narrowing his eyes, Silvano thought he recognized the horse. Wasn't it one of the Utinas? But there was no rider and the horse seemed to be skittish. Slowly, he placed his book on the table and blew out the candle as he raced out the door, letting it slam against the wall as he ran. For whatever reason, the horse was outside the manor and without its rider. And that never boded well.

Silvano ignored everyone else as he ran out the door with nothing but his bone dagger. It was secured tight into his belt. Peering into the rain, the Sadira saw the horse prancing anxiously, making all sorts of noises. The rain was pouring and the grass seemed all sorts of slick. He stepped out into the rain, feeling it soak into his hair and into the one garment he deigned to wear. He approached the horse with an air of concern as he recognized it as the horse Liliana owned. "What's wrong?" he called out clearly, wondering if the horse knew what he had said to her.

Meanwhile, back at the windmill, Sunki stared at the rain as it fell against the panes of glass. She was watching the kids with her brother. Liliana had taken off to be on her own, a strange move on her part. Liliana had been nothing but attentive to them since they had arrived. Something was happening between the woman and her mate. But Sunki did not ask; it was not her place to pry. Instead, she watched the rain pour, waiting for the woman to come back. It had been so much to handle, and the small little family had been something of a joy to the pale woman. But it was a night like this that made it seem a lie.

It didn't take the mare to get attention, and it was the attention of the young man she had met once or twice before. He had taken the young foal who had been born early. She tossed her head, her feet prancing impatiently. She neighed looking the man with one scared eye, her legs splattered with mud, and her mane and tail wild from the wind and rain.

'Come, danger, come, she is in danger'

She whinnied, and pranced forward a yard or to and turned back to make sure he was following her. He had to follow her, or it was too late for the woman. Though in her body and heart she knew it was already true, but her brain wasn't going to comprehend it quite yet. She trotted forward again to the body of her master, who still was still laying on the muddy ground. She let the man know her distress, as she was sure he could help her, get her up. Their kind was so good at those things.

Furrowing his brows slightly, the Sadira kept his hands up as the horse pranced, and then whinnied something in low speech. He still did not understand it, but regardless of the fact, it sounded so urgent that he could hardly say no to the mare. She pranced, mud splattering everywhere as her hooves dug into the wet earth. Silvano trod carefully around her, and when she took off, he followed her. The mare looked back at him every so often, so he knew she wanted him to follow her. The rain fell into his eyes, making him blink more often, the dark shapes of the forest around him blurring by as the wolf fought to keep up with the horse. But soon enough, she stopped, and the mottled male took a moment to get a breath under a tree. It shaded him of some of the rain, but still he felt the cold water dripping down his body.

Shaking out his legs, the Sadira came in close to the horse, squinting where the mare was standing. He gave a loud yelp as he saw the shape of a body in the tall grass. He fell to his knees, ignoring the squelch of the mud beneath them. He cleared the grass away and saw it was just who he thought it was. "Liliana?" he said softly, sound muffled by the rain. Brushing away some of her strewn hair, Silvano stopped frozen. Her chest did not rise and no breath seemed to run into her. He covered a hand over her nose and confirmed it, eyes widening and heart hammering. The sounds of rain stopped and he looked at the woman. Panicking, he rose, and let out an anguished call of fear, calling for a healer, for someone. Anyone who could make this not play out so terribly..

The call was distant, but Sunki heard it clear. It rang in her head like a bell, and that bell was an alarm. She rose slowly from her seat by the window. "Nayati?" she said equally slowly as she kept staring at the window. "Nayati?" she said louder, panic rising as she turned and ran to her supplies. She flung the satchel around her neck and filled it with her emergency supplies; bandages, salves, and cloth. She looked at her brother with fear, before racing out the door. It was all of a minute for her to untie Donoma and mount her. Her body still ached, phantom pains, but Sunki knew that she had to ignore her desire for sleep and rest, especially with the weather like this. Something happened and she knew she had to go. Nayati could follow as he pleased, but he had the kids to worry about and she was the one who had the training.

But what she came upon made her own heart race, as she dismounted Donoma. Una had appeared, coming in through the trees. The pale woman could not tell what the doe thought, for she seemed obscured in the rain. Liliana's horse stood near a young man, dark as the night. Sunki's heart fell, but she continued to get close to them, even though the sinking feeling was overwhelming and dread was almost painful.

"Adanvsdi. Move," she ordered, her voice faltering ever so slightly. Regardless, the young man moved, giving her space to see what had happened. She knelt beside the stranger smelling of the Dreamers, even in the dampening rain. The boy had adjusted the woman's hair to see her face. Sunki put a shaking finger to the woman's neck and stopped breathing. Her hand fell beside the woman's head, and she felt the rock below it. It was easy to know what happened. But she could not believe it. "Duhasata.. Duhasata..," she repeated, putting her hand to her lips to cover her mouth. Tears began to fall, mingling with the rain. "She's gone.. Lili is gone.." And her thoughts went to the two children, to her niece and nephew, to her brother, who had just lost a mother and a lover.

The Utina male had not been the same when he had come back with his sister from AniWaya, and it was only partially due to the brain trauma he had endured. He felt like more of a failure than ever. When he had seen that beast accosting Sunki...it was as if something had broken inside of him. It was his job to keep her safe, to keep Lili and their children safe, and ever since Maska had come he had been failing to do those things time and time again. More than ever he felt as if it would have been better if he had left AniWaya on his own and let his family stay. Maybe they wouldn't have been completely safe, but he doubted that what had happened to Sunki would have occurred. Then there was the whole issue of Crimson Dreams and what they were going through to keep his family safe. Nayati was ashamed of his constant failures, of all the ill he had caused.

When Liliana had left the windmill he had taken only the slightest notice. It was a dreary day and the pups seemed to sense the tension and gloom that surrounded their parents and aunt. They were quite as quiet as their father, looking out the dirty panes of glass at the rain along with Sunki. Nayati could not say how much time had passed between his mate's departure and when an aggrieved call of help shot through the air, but when he heard that howl his heart stumbled in his chest. His sister rose, and spoke his name with barely contained panic. Nayati's hands began to shake as he rose and watched his sibling gather her supplies and run out the door with one last look of fright upon her face. Kuruk and Saqui looked up to their father, voicing questions that were muffled in the man's ears.

Hoof-beats lead away from the windmill and he knew Sunki had rode off upon Donoma. Finally finding the will to move, Nayati headed out into the rain with his children on his heels. He did not even think to fetch Iye; it was too dangerous to ride with the pups anymore and he could not leave them alone. The Utinas jogged through the rain and Nayati's heart pounded in his skull. Something horrible had happened, his gut told him, and he knew with a sickening feeling that it was right.

When he came upon the scene, he saw an unknown Dreamer, Grace, Donoma, and his sister kneeling on the sodden ground. Even though he could not really see what she knelt beside, the look on her face told him everything he needed to know. Grace was riderless and there was a still body in the tall grass. Nayati felt all the warmth leave his body and a numbness descended over him. He stared with an inscrutable look at the scene until he heard his children behind him wanting to know what was up ahead. The father turned quickly and scooped the two into his arms to keep them from going any further ahead. To keep them from seeing what he knew lay in that grass. As his now motherless children squirmed in his arms and kept questioning what was wrong, the tears poured from his sky blue gaze, mixing with the rain.

OOC: we could end it here unless you want another round.

The mare was not sure what was going on, but Silvano startled her to nearly run off again when he sent out the call, she didn't know what it was but she knew it was a call for others. There really was something wrong with her, and soon the place was alight with action as one of the females of the woman's tribe came and knelt by her and started speaking. The horse could sense anguish in the woman's words and soon the man that Grace knew all too well had come and witnessed it... The horse, who was meant to protect the woman had tossed her, not on purpose, but she felt responsible, the mare bent her head down, not wanting to believe the woman was dead, she bumped her nose against the wolf-dog, then to Sunki, and looked at Nayati with pleading eyes. She wanted to say something, but the words would not be understood by any of these wolves even the young man she had tried talking to before. The horse stood quiet, unsure of what would happen to her now, now she had no master, no one who took care of her. She knew she could take care of herself but she loved the wolf's companionship, and love that she'd given her.

Donoma touched the woman's shoulder with gentle lips, rousing her from her tears. Touching the bridge of the mare's nose, Sunki rose as if in a stupor. She let the mare pull her up, as her support. She took a single glance at the body of Liliana, feeling fresh tears break through. It was not going to be easy, even if she had not known the woman as well as she ought to have. She was family, she was the mother of Utina children, of course she would be missed. Would Saqui and Kuruk even remember their mother? Would they remember what she had looked like before she left them? Sunki rushed from the horse's touch and away from the body to her brother standing a little ways away. The children were with him, which scared her more than anything. This was not something they should see. No one deserved to see their parents dead before their eyes.

"I'll take the tsuginisi, brother." Sunki managed to pull Kuruk out of the man's arms as Donoma approached them in her slow, easy gate. With her free hand, she rubbed at her eyes as she took Saqui from the man as well. He had to go to the woman in the grass, to be with her, and see her last. Though she had only been a priest in the Great Tribe, she could do what the bone priests did, and prepare the body for the voyage to the great beyond. She would not let anyone else do it. But what the question was, was what Nayati wanted to do with his mate's remains.
