When the news had reached her ears that Anu had returned to them Savina's legs had nearly given out on her due to sheer relief. It was not just the fact that having their beloved Praetor back would bolster all of their hopes and comfort, but Anu was more than just her beta—she was her dearest friend. The person who had helped her through thick and thin in this pack and in her life in general. The Marino woman honestly had been terrified of the thought of losing her. When she had seen that knife to her friend's throat...it didn't bear thinking of. She was home now. Home, and safe.

Of course she had wanted to go and see her right away, but Cambria had—in no uncertain words—told her Consul mother to wait. Anu needed time to heal and to rest before she was hounded by questions and visitors. Her daughter had assured her though that, physically anyway, the blue-eyed femme would make a full recovery.

So she had waited a day, until the afternoon after her return, to go and see her old friend with her own eyes. Savina had shifted to her two-legged form for the first time in what must have been weeks in case there was any assistance Anu needed of her. The dark Italian came to the door of the room that had been vacant for far too long, and knocked softly.

There was an indescribable feeling that came to her when she returned. It was filled with relief and it was tainted by the guilt of leaving other prisoners behind, and then there was the happiness that she felt to see her home and family. They were all muddle together that Anu was unsure how to feel. The woman decided to simply rest and sleep knowing that no one would visit her in the darkness. No one with an evil intent.

Alder watched over her, as did Mati and Cypress was never too far. Cambria tended to her wounds, wrapping soft bandages around her neck and wrists and fed her teas that settled her body and allowed her to rest. Anu remembered crying, and she remembered her son carrying here and she remembered the horse... But the old woman would remember more as the days passed but she had tried to sleep.

A soft knock came to the door, and Anu opened soft cerulean eyes. Come in. she replied to the request. She lay on her back, the softness of the bed cradling her. It was odd against her body when the hard ground had been her only choice of surface for weeks. But she appreciated the blankets to warm her thin body, and hide her tattered figure.

At the sight of her good friend Anu smiled softly, thoughts of Gotham weighing on her mind suddenly. The two had many things to speak of, but for a moment she wished to simply reunite with her alpha and friend. Savina She greeted, a bandaged hand outstretched in the hopes that she could hold her friend's.

The voice that answered her knock made her heart momentarily flutter in her chest. Until this moment she had been almost unsure as to believe whether or not her friend was really home. But now that she heard that familiar voice the reality of it flooded her. Carefully she entered the room and immediately emeralds found the thin body laying on the bed and covered carefully with a blanket. Despite her being covered, it was clear how emaciated the woman had become during her captivity, and she could see the starkness of the bandages against her ashy fur. Tears prickled at the back of her eyes, seeing her friend in such a state, but when Anu smiled Savina could not help but return the expression.

The raven alphess walked over and caring took her friend's outstretched hand while gingerly sitting down upon the bed so as not to jostle the Praetor's resting body. "Anu," she said, her mind searching for the right words to say. The guilt of being unable to free her that day at the parley rushed back. She had wanted nothing more than to go and rescue Anu, but despite her showing at that meeting, the Marino woman was not a warrior. The Consul had not known how to safely retrieve her dear friend. "Thank the gods you're back." There was so much more to be said, but for now she wanted to cling—however fleetingly—to the happiness of this reunion.

Her fingers wrapped themselves around the dark hand, and she watched as Savina sat beside her. The emotions in the wolfess' face were mimicked by the light tones of Anu's features. She was happy to be home, relieved that she was safe and no longer under the bonds of Maska. But it was hard to face all those that she felt she had let down. She had sworn to never regret accepting the Utina's into their home, yet she felt the heavy responsibility for causing this fighting. I'm happy to be home. She replied, her voice soft and filled with the constant fatigue that plagued her.

Now that their greeting had been spoken, she looked away. Briefly there was a silence. She needed to know who else was missing, or hurt and she needed to report on Gotham. Anu was glad that at least Savina's son was alive and in fair health. It could be worse. They have Gotham. She said with eyes still unable to return to her leader's.

It was difficult to see Anu so worn down and to hear her voice come so weakly from her lips. While there was such a relief that she was now where she belonged, there was also the knowledge that this war was far from over. Maska and his thugs still controlled AniWaya and Savina knew there would be no rest for Crimson Dreams until that changed. She herself would not stand by while that tyrant was their neighbor. He threatened everything that she had worked to build and the Consul would not let him remain.

Her friend looked away and they both seemed to know that now it was time to return to the unpleasant details of the situation they were in. Savina tried to gather her thoughts on all that Anu needed to know of what had happened here during her imprisonment. When the words of her son were spoken, they were not a surprise. Savina nodded vaguely as she looked at the floor. "I suspected as much. I found his scent leaving the territory and followed it to AniWaya. He did not tell anyone what he was planning." At least he was not dead. She could take solace in that. "He'll be able to hold his own." That's what she had been telling herself to get by, at least.

"Everyone else is still here thankfully, and those who have been injured have only been minorly so." Savina looked back to her friend's face. "Your friend very well might have saved my life the night of the raid. He shot down one of the attackers who was coming up behind me." Perhaps knowing that would help assuage whatever guilt Anu might be feeling.

The air in her lungs was cold, making them ache as she breathed. But there was so much comfort in her return, relief in the eyes of her family as well as in her heart. She had yet wondered what it would take for her body to become strong again, and how long she would be in her bed. For the moment she was simply grateful to be safe and no longer wondering if she would survive.

The words of Savina were gentle ones, easing her worry and making her more confident. Gotham could hold his own, she believed that now with her alphess' help. It was impossible to miss the unhappiness and the worry that laced her ebony features but perhaps there was a small bit of hope that could be held.

Anu smiled softly at the news of Nayati, and his brave act. They all seemed to have their place in the happenings of the battle. The hunter was one Anu had always respected, and the idea that he had saved Savi made her even more proud to be called his friend and cast the worries aside. She prayed it had all happened for a reason. "I'm glad your safe. Thank you for keeping my children safe too."

War would not be won without action. Her smile was lost as she thought of what would happen next. She feared her escape wouldn't go unnoticed by Maska, he was an arrogant creature with pride so think it blinded him. It was only a matter of when he retaliated rather then if. "We must find a way to stop Maska. He thinks nothing of stomping us out. We have to fight." There were few instances where Anu believed that violence was the answer, and this was the first time she had ever thought that the Dreamers must rise up attack. But she knew there was no other way, they would be destroyed if they did nothing.

Of course she worried for her son, it was impossible not to. But she could not focus on Gotham's predicament and let her fears get the best of her. There was too much else to think about. Too many other things that needed her attention. Her crippling grief of losing Denali had taught her a vital lesson: she could not be brought low by the fate of one child when others still needed her.

Her friend's smile showed that she had chosen the right thing to share. Some may have thought that them harboring the Utina family was the cause of all of this, and perhaps that had been the catalyst, but Savina made no mistake in thinking that with someone such as Maska war would have come sooner or later. It was the tribe's tyrannical leader that had started this conflict, not the Utinas. "Of course."

The mood changed again just as quickly as it had briefly lightened. When Anu spoke, the Consul knew her words were right, but the solutions were not so easily found. The weariness that had been weighing down on her for weeks descended over her and she suddenly looked a much older wolf than she, in reality, was. "I know. But there are so few of us who can." Savina did not want to force any of her members to fight, but they also could not sit here idly waiting for the next hammer blow to drop. It was an impasse she had been struggling with for some time.

Nothing about the future's course would be easy. The past was littered with pain and anguish, and so would the future. But they had to stop the cycle, they had to fight against the beast that sought to destroy them. Anu knew that she could not fight, and it felt wrong to tell her friend that she must when she herself could not. But there was no other way. Savina possessed a creature inside that Anu lacked, a strength that would carry them through no matter the cost. It was all for the pack's survival and for years that pack had consisted of their families. Disbanding and allowing Maska to win was not an option.

Anu nodded, knowing that fact well. So few could rightfully take up arms and fight against the AniWayans, that was simply the way of the Dreamers. They were family oriented and generally non-violent, everything about the past few months went against what they lived for. "I know." She spoke with understanding and then admitted, "I don't want to fight anymore" The female had had enough, and no longer wished to fight for her life or live in fear.

"But it will never end." Her ragged voice whispered. The fighting wouldn't stop, and as long as Maska and the Guardians existed Crimson Dreams could not.
